So I went ahead and started it off, anyways...Turbo Ski! What can I say? I LOVE SCHOOL RUMBLE! My favorite anime series ever, as a matter of fact.
And to top it off, I LOVE ERI!!!

Crap. Buckeyestar snuck one in. And despite his, er... growing 'Belle art collection, I foresee DaosX would enjoy drawing her more than Torchie.
Well, unless Torchie decides to pull out her rarely-performed-because-it's-very-indecent Polynesian torch dance....

Actually, I'm judging you guys on what you write more than what the characters actually look like. I haven't actually looked at any of screenshots/pics yet. -

You betcha! No pain, no gain! -
I'm kinda bored lately (finished all my commish stuff so I don't have much else to do) and I'm kinda running ragged shorting out on ideas so, please inspire me!
So anyone want a free sketch from moi?
So, here's your job. Sell your idea to me. Picture yourself as a used car salesman. Like, why should I draw YOUR char and your idea? Do whatever it takes...humor works wonders with me.
I'll pick the 5+ most interesting/amusing chars on Saturday. =)
Cheers!
Note: I won't necessarily draw your char the way you may want it to be drawn...like, for a certain Snowman, if I suddenly felt like drawing a deranged snowman chasing kids around, then that's a possibility too. =p
Also wanted to add, if time permits and depending on how much I feel like it, I *MAY* work one piece all the way to completion too (digital inks + color).

Well, there ARE some mediocre fan-made comics out there and then there are some EXTREMELY good ones at that (check out Bleedman's Grim Adventures, which draws characters from Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon TV shows as well as special appearances by random characters from other universes too). When people think of fan-made, they oftentimes don't get past the idea that these characters could be rewritten in a way that completely blows away the original design.
Well, I think the problem with this request lies mostly in the sheer amount of work you're requesting...I mean, to do a single page of a comic is like an equivalent of 1-8 images...then times that by 20. Then however many issues you want to release. I'd suggest trying to get a few pages at a time rather than asking for the whole thing all at once just simply due to the intimidating workload it would create.
I also suggest going on to the deviantart forums and try looking for a comic artist in the Projects forum.
Just my 2 cents and happy hunting. -
Tough argument since both can be true, depending on the individual.
Art is subjective based on the general idea of how you can't actually "define" what is or is not "art"...however, tell that to someone who's trying to get into a profession (comics, games, modeling, etc)...then it becomes "objective" as heck since then only specific skills are required.
Since she's a girl, it's nicer to let her win. -
Yeah, silly TA! Stan Lee's the writer!!! The Lee that draws is Jim Lee...who was the creator of Wild Cats and a few other things.

Well...
For pencils, I'd probably go with Cassady (oh god, forgot his first name) or Mark Brooks. Inks, I'm indifferent. Colors, either Frank D'Armada or Dan Kemp. -

A Graver pencils w/ JTran inks and colors would be.... pretty much dead on in my head...
Would yall be up for that?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm...a collab with Graver? Sounds tricky (with such different styles)...but definitely wouldn't miss the opportunity. -

DaosX is pretty intense. And he skirts the edge of what DA will allow.

Thanks! Am I really, though? Oh god...the mods are gonna coming after me REALLY soon then...

Yeah, I actually started out with PSP too earlier on, too. It's much more user-friendly than Photoshop and a good way to practice on without being overwhelmed by the complexicity of Photoshop.

First off, I think you're referring to "Pixel" rather than "raster". Also, Adobe Illustrator is a "vector-based" program.
So, going into the discussion. There's really no such thing as the "best program". It's simply a case of which one (or combination of various ones) the person is most comfortable with...which differs for different people. Keep in mind that art is more about the artist than the tool that he/she uses. "Photoshop" is nothing more than a really shiny pencil...in the hands of a skilled artist, it can do amazing things. In the hands of someone who isn't experienced with it...it'll perform the same as any other program.
Alot of us uses different programs (or combination) based on what specific style that we strive for. If you want to do matte painting, it's Painter IX all the way (although some would argue for Photoshop here as well -point relies more on the artists' skills and preferences than what is actually "better"). If you want to do inking, it's said that Illustrator and Flash is the best way to go due to it being vector based (although I, personally use Photoshop for this, another case of preferences). I've also heard Manga Studio EX works really well for inking as well...but I've never used it, myself. For comic-book style coloring/cellshading, the range is REALLY broad here...since you can use just about every single program for this however different artists will tell you different things.
As for myself, I use:
-For Painterly style -> Photoshop + Painter
-Inking -> Photoshop
-Cellshade -> Photoshop + Painter
-Retouching -> Photoshop -
Wow...that's so awesome! Would definitely charge the way Digital artists work completely!

Will Scarfy be beaten down and trampled on, too?

Woah, that's a really cool sketch! Were you planning on finishing / cleaning it up?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll probably ink it or clean it up if I can find the time. I might take it all the way...but it's a bit unlikely due to time constraints. -

Well, rule of thumb regardless of what style you intend to aim toward...is simply to try to draw realism first. Draw what you see. If you're just starting out, your primary concern is going to be anatomy and composition.
After you start getting down the anatomy, things will progress alot easier as you start to ease into a certain style. When you're drawing, you won't really notice it at first but you start to lean toward a specific style...so don't obsess over trying to copy other people's styles...it tends to be alot better to develop your own. -
Nice...the drawn pic was really beautifully drawn.
-
Well, it's all about your passions and what you love. If you like art and choose to [censored] it out, then that's your perogative. I don't think anyone really can say anything since that's your choice. Like how people used to purchase weapons/items for video games through eBay and other sources, I don't really see what's wrong with your artwhoring. They're doing something they love so who are other people to say what's right or wrong to that person?
...and yes, I know...I am quite biased. :-P -
In this pic, I drew dust/smoke...

What I did was:
1. Create a new layer.
2. Select paintbrush (set width to something relatively small...I believe I used 5pt). Then draw random swirls over and over again (better if the swirls are as round as possible).
3. Then, I goto Filter and select Guassian Blur. Blur it to the point that I find that it's "soft" enough.
4. Edit the transparency of the layer if necessary (by changing the opacity).
5. Duplicate the layer a few times, transform (scale, rotate, skew, etc), and change the levels of it a bit to create more textures.
But yeah, there ya have it! Hope that helps! =)
