Quote:Okay, I think I got my responses muddled up.Who's being daft here? I never said anything about whether the news would spread elsewhere, you just pulled that one out of thin air in your post.
A SPOILER tag would not have kept the news in this thread.
It would have been being discussed in channels in game and on other boards anyway, SPOILER tag or not.
The SPOILER tag would only have applied to this thread. I still maintain that the title itself IS the SPOILER tag.
Yes, I think a spoiler tag should have been added for consistency. One rule for a thread and one rule for another isn't right really.
But you are correct, no tag would have kept this news under wraps so the rest of my response was more annoyance over Paragon having revealed this so soon.
Apologies if that didn't come across well. -
And if you think this news would have stayed in this thread, that's just plain daft, no need to pull out the patronising dictionary definitions thank you. It's already being discussed in channels in game and on other boards I frequent.
What would be nice is some consistency. If the board moderators conceded that the thread about the Shadow Shard needed a spoiler tag, this one does too. -
Quote:I'd be compelled to give Paragon my money if they just sold the damn things to us instead of getting us to gamble for it.Money can be compelling, and the whole CCG strategy seems to be a pretty successful grift for a few other companies.
As it stands, none of these concessions make me want to go anywhere near the packs. Launch them by all means, maybe they'll take off, maybe they won't. Personally I hope they crash and burn and make Paragon reconsider ever doing anything so stupid again. -
Quote:It's pretty much killed my interest in the SSAs now.No thanks. There's a reason I haven't bought any of those books. It's a cheap tactic and completely destroys any suspension of disbelief, tension, or desire to see a story through.
I guess I'll just be using them for farming Alignment merits from now on.

***SPOILERS!***
With all due respect, this is the equivalent of walking out of a cinema and announcing to the queue:
"Yeah, Bruce dies in the first scene but the rest of the film is kind of cool."
Dick move on all fronts guys. I've actually been enjoying the SSAs and have avoided any discussions about them until I've played the chapter. And now you go and put this out? Thanks for ruining the one decent story arc I've played in over a year.
And after the long thread we've had recently about what constitutes a spoiler or not please at least put a SPOILER tag on the front of this announcement.
I really do wonder what on earth you lot are playing at some time. -

I've got a few but I'll share my favourite here and maybe pop back in for more later.
So I'm on my mid-20s Warshade and I'll be honest, feeling a little gimpy. He was my first Warshade so I wasn't quite sure what I was doing and so I gladly took the invite to an early 30s mission team when it was offered.
On the team was a small, quiet Force Field Defender who kept her bubbles up at all times but didn't blast too much. I got the impression that having an Energy Secondary and being on a team full of Scrappers, her blasting hadn't been appreciated. So she hung back, keeping bubbles up and using Aid Other on anyone who needed it.
Anyway, being Scrapper heavy, the team was roaring through a warehouse when they zoomed past a corridor and managed to aggro a mob without noticing it. While they were charging into the next mob, the poor FF Defender took the brunt of their assault. She tried to run but they surrounded her and the rest of the team were too busy with the room ahead of them to help. I was in Nova form so I turned around and flew back as fast as I could to where she was struggling.
I blasted a few of the mob into the wall and dropped out of Nova. The rest of them were still wailing on the Defender so I shifted to Dwarf and teleported into the fray, right next to her. I taunted them, hit them with my Mire and scrapped it out with them until there were none standing. And the Defender never fell. I felt so proud and she was very grateful.
Best of all, ten minutes later, she came to my rescue. I caught a blast from a Void Hunter and lay there stunned, unable to fight back while he prepared for another shot. Suddenly, from behind me, a Force Bolt blasted into him and sent him into the wall before he could get another shot off. The FF Defender flew in beside me, hit Force Bubble and kept me safe while I recovered, all the while blasting the hell out of the Void until he was no more.
Now that felt heroic and I think both of us left the mission feeling that we'd both saved each other's skin. -
In answer to the OP, I seem to remember reading about them creating it before i12, when the Midnighters were just another part of obscure game lore rather than an actual group with members, locations and story arcs. I cannot remember however, where I may have read it but it was likely in the Shard itself.
Regarding the posting of spoilers, I'm inclined to agree with Captain Electric. Discussion of spoilers on the forum is inevitable but keeping them out of thread titles would be polite. To give an example, I am a big fan of certain HBO series and therefore, there are threads in the Hero/Villain culture thread I do not read as there would likely be rampant discussion of spoilers. I can simply see the title of the thread and move on. Whereas if someone posted a thread in that forum titled: "OMG! ******* dies in Season 5!", I would be somewhat annoyed. -
Same reasons I had when I first started playing:
1) Short of an accident with Gamma radiation, it's the closest I can be to a superhero. All of my characters are aspects of me.
2) Simple, easy to pick up and can be enjoyed in short, half hour bursts that no other MMO can do as far as I can tell.
3) Great community, only a few trolls and simple to team.
4) It's provided a springboard to a lot of my writing, my first novel and a host of other fun activities.
5) A detailed and immersive world with a metric ton of lore and backstories to explore and be involved in. I squee'd with delight over the last SSA (Part 4) as I got all the references and remembered the correct answers to all the questions.(Yeah, I'm a lore junky, so sue me.

Quote:I have to cast my vote in for this one too. Initially I didn't like what had been done to Dark Blast when it was ported to Blasters but I can honestly say, my Dark/MM is one of my favourite Blasters now. Three cones while levelling, another two if you go Soul Mastery (which I will be) plus healing in Life Drain and Drain Psyche, a hold and a mezz aura for going into melee (plus another in Soul if you want it).Dark Blast/MM.
Because unlike these two above I'm weird and I love cones and positioning.
Also tons of survivability before IOing due to DP and Life Drain.
No IOs and yet she can scream through mobs at a disturbing rate for a Blaster. I can't wait to layer on some defences.
So yeah, I'm weird too. -
I really like the Abandoned Sewer Trial. I've been here six years and I only ran it for the first time this spring. It's a lot of fun and I'd love to see it given some love.

Hmmm, still confused as the toggle off command works fine for shifting out of Nova.
Anyway, doesn't matter, I had forgotten to look at your guide first. *facepalm* The bind in there works a treat so thank you! -
-
Any alien DUMB enough to park their ship so close to our star are either:
1) A bunch of alien jocks seeing how close they can get without melting just for the lulz or,
2) Vastly superior beings showing of for the benefit of Earth observers before they come and obliterate us.
I know which I'd prefer. -
Hello everyone.
I'm currently levelling up a new Warshade and I decided to reuse a series of binds that I've successfully used before. However, something seems wrong.
Firstly, whenever shifting forms, I get "unknown command: powexec" spam showing up in my combat window. Secondly, try as I might, I cannot get my bind for shifting into Black Dwarf to work. It takes me to the right tray but doesn't switch forms.
I will confess to not being very good with binds but I'm slightly confused that these work fine on my other Warshade but not on my new one. Could anyone be kind enough to take a look at them and tell me where I'm going wrong?

Many thanks! -
I'm greedy, I want both.
More specifically, I want a buff for Dual Pistols. Namely cutting down on the animation times and upping the damage. Or even changing the split in damage so that Swap Ammo was actually useful.
That said, I have plenty of characters min/maxers would cry over because they're using sub par sets or are slotted weirdly. Concept always trumps efficiency in my book. -
Quote:This is an interesting point. I've used the Contact Finder feature a number of times when levelling up lowbies and I've noticed a lot of common contacts missing from it. Temblor, Wincott and Castenella are regular features but none of the other low level contacts seem to show up. To get them, I still need to go through the usual three radio missions and Safeguard. Please, please, please, I'll probably never run the 1-5 arc again I was so annoyed by it but I honestly wouldn't CARE if you'd just fix the 'find contact' window so it actually pointed you at a regular zone contact. I went through big chunks of the game where all it would offer me was David Wincott (didn't wanna do the hollows on that toon), Montague Castanella (even after I'd finished his arc), Jim Temblor (again, I wasn't looking for the hazard arc), and... that was pretty much it. It would be so nice if we could just start working with someone in KR (or steel, or sky, or talos, depending on how many times you run DFB) that WASN'T one of the special arcs or hazard arcs or what-have-you. I've saved Lou the mechanic SO MANY TIMES, but that's 'cause I kind of like doing it. Please let us go ahead and 'find' regular zone contacts!
For a game with so many contacts and missions, isn't this selling the game a little short if none of the other contacts show up? -
Quote:And 'whining', don't forget 'whining'. Dismissing feedback as whining these days seems to have become commonplace on these boards.Venting and rage is half the battle. The other half is overblown hyperbole in calling every comment you dislike "Rage" (or hysteria, crying, screaming, etc.).

Quote:As I said, I'm not outraged. But this is the first time we've seen a weapon skins pack for sale and it appears to have come at the expense of the initial selection if TW was purchased alone. And I'm quite happy to concede, as others have said, that these have all been designed from scratch with no existing art assets used. Hence why I'm watching to see how future weapon skin packs are developed. I've never been one to scream and shout on forums, but people can and should still leave their feedback as it will help Paragon to see what goes down well and what doesn't.Just out of curiosity, Don't you think it's a little premature for people to get upset and threaten to quit over the number of skins in the pack when we have no idea what the price will be until after the free give away is over?
If you look on the market, individual weapon skins are selling for 60 points each so unless we see this pack marked at more than 240 points they aren't money grabbing. Heck they may even sell the pack slightly cheaper than it would cost to buy the weapon skins individually.
If they do charge more than 240 I'll support the argument that their overpriced.
Personally, this seems like poor timing by the studio. If TW had gone out with its initial selection and then had the pack added a few months down the line, I don't think we'd see as much disappointment. But the timing and the fact that TW has a tiny amount of options on its own just feels... suspicious shall we say?
Now if Paragon want to start selling weapons packs for existing sets, I'll be overjoyed and will happily pay them. But there's just something about the way this release has been handled that gets my hackles up. I hope future sets won't come with a tiny amount of options just so that the studio can squeeze some more greenbacks out of us later on. -
Quote:This is my concern too, that it sets a precident. Now I will happily pay for extra skins but the tiny amount of models TW comes with on it's own makes it look as if they took some of skins it was meant to come with and bundled them up into a pack to make extra money. I can't say whether this is true or not but there's just something about the timing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But to reiterate: it's free this time so that we don't object, and so that we get used to the idea of paying extra for these things. This sets a precedent for the future that will allow them to start charging for weapon skins. The next powerset that is due for release is staff fighting - you can almost guarantee that there will be extra skins for sale, but they won't be free. But by that point no-one will complain because the precedent of charging more for something which should be included in the 800pt powerset purchase is now part of the customer psyche.
If the next weapon set comes with six models and they try to charge extra for another four, we'll know that the bar has been set. And that we can kiss goodbye to releases such as Shield Defence where we got 21 models to choose from.
Somehow I feel that Paragon Studios are still getting a feel for how to run their market and seeing what players will buy and what they won't. I'm not quite 'outraged' as such, but I am watching carefully to see what tricks they try to pull next. -
I don't envy the Devs' their task. I'm a lore junky, I love lore heavy missions but if I'm to repeat them, that lore needs to be delivered in a way I can skip past when I'm running through it again and again and again (it's Incarnate, I'm expecting having to farm it heavily).
On the other hand, I hope all the lore doesn't end up being spouted by another giant Smurf with a bad attitude. I swear I can only read a couple of pages of his dialogue before wanting to punch him in the mouth.
Yeah, I know, I'm a hard customer to please. -
I agree. Those models were there in beta and combined, seemed about the right amount to go live with. It appears that these four were taken away from the initial options, rolled into a skins pack and then marketed as being something 'extra' when TW went live with a tiny choice of models.
Sure, I'd pay for extra weapon skins. But the timing of this... it just smells of someone trying to squeeze more money out of players by gouging the options initially available. And I dread to think what kind of precident that sets for the future. -
Quote:You're missing my point.According to this post, the pack will be included with the purchase of the set for the first two weeks.
That was an incentive for everyone to purchase Titan Weapons asap. VIPs received no better or worse treatment than anyone else with that move. That is what I feel has to change.
