  1. Superb! I'm wondering why I haven't seen his work before. Has it been spotlighted by the mods before and I just missed it, or is this a first?
  2. This goes far beyond what I'd hoped. Yet another great step by the new NCSoft NorCal team. Wjat's even better is my wife will be doing a happy dance, which means... well, that's even better.

Of course, the down side is the fact she'll max out at least two servers. Bread and water for awhile, along with that other stuff...
  3. I'll just save my time and cut and past my reply to our private, SOLUS Foundation, board thread...

"I'll actually probably hit the CoH boards about this one because I've seen some preliminary threads discussing this, and I think the Devs will need some positive reaction to offset the more loud-of-mouth posters against it.

Personally, as long is it sticks to the current billboards, I'm fine with it. I've always combined my personal reality with my game reality in order to make the experience more... well... real. Three quarters of my characters take breaks at Starbucks for example, and the real New England Patriots were beaten by the ficticious Paragon City team (Instead of Green Bay) in the Super Bowl - at least as far as my characters (and their money) were concerned.

If they are really planning on sinking all the revenue back into the game, more power to 'em. Heck, I probably won't even opt out."
  4. I so seldom ever even bother logging in to reply to threads any more because they either set new standards in whining or repeat something that's been hashed out a gazillion times, but THIS... THIS was simply incredible!

This one gets my vote for best thread of the year. Has there been anything else that will get people to voluntarily Rickroll themselves over and over again like this?

    Bravo!
  5. I wasn't going to do anything different - work until 5:00 on Friday. Play some Friday night between chores and stuff. Wait until the wife wakes up Saturday afternoon (she's a day sleeper) and play with her until I crash around midnight. Sunday, lather, rinse, and repeat.

    Except...

My wife took Friday off and plans on getting up early Saturday and Sunday, so I've now had my schedule reconstructed. It's CoH pretty much solid from noon Friday until midnight Sunday.

I love it when my wife gets aggressive like that.
  6. I wish they had a couple of somewhat aggressive board monitors that would put an end to these types of threads before they can grow. One faction - usually the one on the side of the OP - takes an extreme and typically unrealistic position, wasting board space with arguably "whiny" comments about how they've been wronged. A second faction takes exactly the opposite position, usually coming across as being just as extreme and unrealistic. A third faction talks about ponies, pies, and other nonsensical garbage in what is supposed to be a playful way of making light of the topic, but is usually a ploy to make fun of the "whiners" in question. A much smaller, fourth faction tries to actually put forth something that includes realistic reasons why things might be happening the way they do. That faction is always ignored, of course.

In short, it's a waste of space. Yet here I am, part of faction four, adding to the waste. Welp, if you can't beat them, join them, huh?
  7. I play CoV on occassion because it's different, but if I had to choose, I prefer CoH and prefer content for CoH. I'm really curious as to what the breakdown would be if everyone were to answer a survey of that nature. Something like:

Which of the following most accurately describes your CoX playing preference:

    A. I prefer CoH solely and want content developed only for that game.
    B. I play CoV, but prefer CoH and want content aimed more at CoH.
    C. I play both games equally and prefer content be developed equally.
    D. I play CoH, but prefer CoV and want content aimed more at CoV.
    E. I prefer CoV solely and want content developed only for that game.

My guess - and it is just a GUESS, folks, so hold your tomatoes - would be that A and B would get about 75% of the response. If I'm even close to being correct, that in itself explains why development leans toward CoH. The devs DON'T hate CoV, they just recognize the demographics, and - again, if I'm correct - it would not make sense to parse development resources out in some way contrary to those demographics.

Not that this point hasn't been made a gazillion times before, of course. The only way to stop these kinds of threads would be for NCSoft to actually do such a survey and release the results (or release any other research they have that supports the same result.) That'll never happen because they still don't want to alienate the 25%.

So these threads will keep popping up for the life of CoX. Such is the nature of the beast.
  8. Could someone please cut and paste the statement (unless it's too big)? I can get to the boards, but my work's web filter blocks out stuff on the main CoH site.
  9. After reading the latest post regarding processing issues, I was curious as to how possible it would be to configure the two new features to "hold" the transaction processing, essentially storing the details of the transfer or rename until a final approval is given. That approval could be for all stored transactions. For example, a player could rename a character and save the transaction, rename another character and save the transaction, and then perhaps transfer a character and save the transaction. Then, the player could go to a set location, button or screen and hit a button that says something like, "Process all transactions," which would then run all three simultaneously in one bank card transaction.

I'm not sure how doable it is, but it certainly seems like a good way to avoid these headaches, making life much easier for players, eliminating time-consuming complaints and inquiries, and perhaps making more revenue for NCSoft from customers that would be inclined to process more renames and transfers because of its ease.

    Just a thought.
  10. <sighs> I keep coming back to the thread, hoping CuppaJo will announce that they changed their minds, and gave her a hefty raise to stay...

    ...alas...
  11. Well... Just damn! Good luck, CuppaJo. You'll be sorely missed.

    Issue 12 is out!

I noticed that there wasn't a single character from Liberty server. There may have been other servers not represented, but that's where my characters are. Maybe they could try to balance their selections from across all servers next time.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't think it had anything to do with favoring one server over another. It was more about what the heroes looked like and how they fit in with what the wanted for those panels.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I didn't say they deliberately favored certain servers over others. I suggested that they could have tried to balance the selections between the servers so that everyone that plays the game had an equal shot.

And, with the politest of respect, given the relative size and artistic quality of the cameo drawings and - again with all respect - the variety of costume choices, I highly doubt that a hero character's appearance had much to do with these selections.

If so, frankly, I'm concerned about the artist's taste. Earlier appearances of player characters, yeah, that probably had something to do with it, but these...

    ...can't buy that.

  16. Wonderful guide. . . Pre I6.

What have you changed in response to ED?
  17. I've seen this come up inside other threads, but I haven't seen an answer that washes.

    Warburg?

What is the justification for one hero attacking another hero? Let's set aside the Lobos, Punishers, and Wolverines of the world. Why would a hero attack Superman or Captain America simply beause they could?

All of my characters are heroic heroes. They aren't anti-heroes. There is no justifiable reason for a hero to attack them sight unseen simply because they flew into an area - simply because they can.

I can understand villain versus hero, or even villain versus villain, but hero versus hero? True, one can find instances in the comics where it happens, often actually. But every time Batman punches Superman, there's a good reason. There is justification.

You don't see the Teen Titans hovering around waiting to gank the first hero that flies over to their island just because it's OK.

My sense of immersion in this game is fading. I am a big role-player. My wife is even more dedicated to role-play. This latest turn in CoH/CoV PvP has finally struck a nerve. I am being forced to decide to not only stay out of a zone to avoid PvP (which I typically dislike) but to avoid a situation that makes no sense role-play-wise. It's bad enough avoiding Siren's Call or Bloody Bay because I don't want my hero ganked by villain players, but at least they're doing what villains do.

But heroes ganking heroes. . . where's the role-play sense in that?
  18. Before I ask my question, let me preface by saying that I haven't slogged through this entire thread. I have tried to search for Statesman's posts, here and elsewhere, but there are a gazillion of them, too (which speaks very highly for him).

In any case, has Jack, CuppaJoe, or any other official representative of CoH ever stated exactly why power-leveling hurts the game - from a planning and/or developing sense? If so, could someone link the post?

If not, Jack, perhaps an "on the record" explanation as to how PLing adversely affects data-mining (for example) - or whatever - would nip some of the nay-sayers in the bud.

If there is a valid, articulable, reason for the devs to try to minimize PLing, then I can't argue with the changes given they will affect a relatively small portion of play, all things considered.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Do you think the new costume/body changes will allow people to make teen body type characters?

    [/ QUOTE ]
From what I've seen, it looks like they'll be able to be "lithed down" a bit.

By the way, I'm impressed that you dug up this old thread rather than start a new one. You should teach lessons.

    Nice work.

    Greetings heroes!

Yes, the cape mission has been adjusted in Issue 3. We wanted this particular mission to be enjoyed by all, but we found that in its previous iteration, it was much too difficult for the casual players and soloÂ’ers. We want everyone to get a chance at the cape, and we want it to be fun. For more of a challenge, try grouping up with a large group, or contact your local Hero Corp Field Agent.

In case people missed it, Ravenstorm - ONE OF THE POWERS THAT BE - read and replied to a post, answering it promptly and with good grace. Please feel free to link this post when you read those threads where folks gritch about devs and PTB ignoring them.

    Thanks Ravenstorm!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled banter.
  21. Well, as fate would have it, Statesman has at least added support to some of the more positive aspects of this thread by starting one of his own in the "Yes, we're working on it" thread.

Unfortunately, after having slogged through all 23 pages (as of this writing) it seems that some other of the points discussed in "The REAL Statesman..." have also been proven.

In my humble opinion, it's no wonder why States and company are oftentimes quiet.

Geesh, and I thought I caught hell when I started this thread. Talk about opening the floodgates.

But for now, if you ever make it over to Justice server Dal (surely, that'd be more appropriate for you? :-) we gotta team up :-)...

[/ QUOTE ] Well, as soon as they get around to implementing some kind of server transfer I may just do that. I've already had dibs put on my main for Victory, though, so I'd best get cracking on my primary alt, huh?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
It is a very hard line to walk, to serve a multi-headed beast community like MMO players. Always, always remember that we aren't "the players" but we are "the blasters" and "the tankers" and "the veterans" and each one of our groups has different demands. That's what I do. I think they're handling the boards just right.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Maybe I should have just recruited people like this to make my original point for me. It would have saved much pain.

But then again, Karon and I never would have bonded.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Again, sorry OP for jacking your thread.

[/ QUOTE ]Not a problem at all. Much like your point about using inspirations for your blaster (skittles are your friend) there are so many issues that mix and mingle, which is what lends me toward having a very forgiving view of the developers.

My blaster could never survive without the combination of powers, enhancements, inspirations, strategy, and what teaming I can find time for. It seems to me that was the plan or they wouldn't have created all these things in the first place. When looking at the big picture, it's my humble opinion that many (though not all) of the perceived problems may lay in the fact that some people simply don't take advantage of all options the way the options were intended. When that's the case, then there really isn't a game-play issue, or an issue of the devs dropping any balls. It's perception.

Which brings me back to the thread in a very circular way. Even when there is an issue that has nothing to do with utilizing all the resources, slamming the devs just seems to me to be short-sighted.
  25. OK, after the previous posters' well worded comments about how we've shown we can play nice, I hesitate to comment, but...

No matter how well-worded and fact-based, these balance issues have been brought up in other threads that were specifically started for that type of issue. With every respect due the posters, and in hopes of being crystal clear that I'm not trying to flame, the intent of this thread was obviously not to discuss balance issues.

While I've admitted to possibly being a little confusing as to what my original intent really was (depending on one's perspective), I'm fairly certain a divergence into balance issues wasn't my thing.

Again, don't get me wrong, the arguments and points are well-spoken, and possibly valid. Another thread would have probably been a more appropriate forum.

Unless, that is, our new happy family makes you feel safe.
