I was more like going to point out that as a brute your job is to do damage. Having more attacks helps to accomplish this. Personally, if I had a DM brute I'd take shadow punch, smite, MG and gloom for single target attacks. Dark obliteration is never bad and I doubt soul drain would hurt either

I'd keep midnight grasp, it's your highest damage single target attack. Also, move the miracle +recovery from siphon life to health to have the bonus perma.
Also getting more attacks would help, you wont like exemping with that toon. Only smite and boxing before 41? Ouch. And after 41 you'll get soul tentacles (not too much of a damage dealer), siphon life (no acc? Wont do much damage anyway and if it doesnt hit... well, no damage). The only decent attacks you will have at 50 are smite and dark obliteration.

Least on both of my toons that have purples I keep the set bonuses whether I'm lvl 1 or 50. This is most visible on my ice/mental, keeping confuse (lvl 28 power) and sleep (lvl 41 power) sets when I exemped to 15 (or 14? Ouro'd Spelunker) last night.

I think invuln is a good set as it is, the only thing it's lacking is debuff resistance (which Castle is probably adding in the near future). As Castle said, most people think invuln is weak because they skip the lacking (at least for scrappers and brutes) passives.

After experimenting a hundred hours of so (playtime) on a new build with my katana/invuln scrapper, I've found out that in a team situation (and most solo situations) Tough + Weave is a superior choice to Aid Self + Conserve Power. I barely ever used conserve power and I still dont need it. The extra resistance and defence I get from Tough + Weave is enough to offset the need of a regular heal when solo and in most teams there are buffers or healers to keep your HP from sinking.
Besides, as far as I understand how resistance debuffs work the fact I have Tough also adds up to my resistance debuff resistance (dont worry if you had to read it a couple of times). If resistance works the way I think it's something like this: your resistance debuff resistance is the same as your highest value of damage resistance. In my case it went up from 48% to 64% (the change of S/L resistance), giving me a net increase of 33% in the debuff resistance area. I could be wrong with this though and I dont mind anyone correcting me.
Anyway, this is my current build I'm using. It has a great survival (sure it did cost a lot too) and with the buffs to Katana animation times I'm dealing quiet a lot of damage too.

What? 33% res to S/L/E/N along with 75% F and 15% C? With a heal that has 40s base recharge? Far from rubbish, it also has a 2nd BU. -
/WP isn't exactly the best thing for a PvP scrapper, you're better off with fire or regen. Anyways, for PvE you'll want (from spines) all except barb swipe and confront (this could be useful, but it's not needed) and from WP all except resurgence (which again, could be useful but is not needed).
From power pools you'll likely want Stamina, Tough, a travel power and maybe Hasten. Ancillary power pools arent really needed. You could go for energy torrent though if you still have enough power picks left. -
