I would need to have 6794% enhancement bonus to get the same magnitude of knock-back from Power Thrust if it started at magnitude .67. Three slotting Knock-back enhancements would only get me to 175.38%
Did you read the suggestion completely? I did say powers which REALLY had to have KB should stay where they are. Powers whose only purpose is 100% reliable, insane mag KB obviously are those powers. Force Bolt and Power Thrust, for example, would be useless without their KB because they do squat for damage.

    Quote:
Also, what would this change do to Force Field characters who wanted Repulsion bomb to stay magnitude .67, but wanted to do knock-back with Repulsion field?
That's a valid concern and something I didn't think of.

I guess my beef is mostly with KB powers that don't have 100% chance for KB
  2. I'd go with Posiblast and chance for hold. Posiblast gives you ED capped damage, possibly extra range (cones love that) and a damage proc. Then you also get the hold proc.

Other than that I'd probably just frankenslot it.

I'd guess this is different in that it doesn't totally get rid of KB, and yet doesn't have KB fanatics have to change their power slotting in order to get the KB back.

The numbers might need some tooling around to make it work better, though. Those where just off the top of my head.
  4. Maybe they could add two copies of the auras into the scrapper secondaries: one with taunt component and one without, obviously coded so that you can only pick one or the other.

Another thread on KB including alphas inspired something. We have the mechanics for "external" enhancements like the alphas, so I was thinking, what if all KB (excluding powers where it REALLY, REALLY has to be KB thematically) was reduced to KD and all players were given a sort of alpha enhancement which only enhanced KB.

As far as I know, the mag of the KB doesn't make a huge difference in the KB distance, and most enemies don't have that much in the name of KB protection. Would it work if all KB powers were reduced to the value of 0.67 and people were given, say, three tiers of "KB Alpha Enhancements" to slot if they want to with different KB values available? I'd make them unlockable by level, first available at level 1, second at 12 and third at 22, just like different tiers of enhancements become available. Values could probably be around 50%, 100% and 200% boost.

Better yet, if those "alphas" could be made to modify the base value of 0.67 in a way that regular enhancements could affect the already enhanced value, people could still have silly KB.

This way people who dislike KB could play KB heavy sets toned down to KD while KB fanatics could keep their bouncy attacks. All they'd need to add is a tooltip when you first login to ask whether or not you want to slot it right away and give instructions on how to slot/deslot it later on if you change your mind.

Supernatural phobias? Nah. I just think KB is frustrating when it pummels stuff out of debuff patches/auras or out of the range of my attacks. If it was paired with something really nice for some character that has KD, it would bug the hell out of me because I'd want Awesome Something but not KB.

I guess it's a good thing then that I'm not the only one who can't do any serious improving on these.

While I'd like the faster recharge on Hasten, I don't think 25% Regen is worth those two seconds.
  8. Here's an alternate one, very slightly less S/L def, a bit less E/NE but slightly better Resistance numbers and some more Recharge.

    This is ripping me apart!

  9. Two of mine will be getting the very rare as soon as possible, 5 or 6 will be getting common/uncommon over time, rest won't probably get anything anytime soon.
  10. Hello, I am DSorrow and I'm a buildoholic.

With the very rare alphas released, I finally got enough motivation to get the Panaceas on my Kat/Inv and now I'm on the way to The Perfect Build. I'm going to need some help, though, because it's hard to come up with fresh slotting ideas when I've looked at the two powersets so much.

I'm looking to get the following things:
    • As close to soft capped Def versus S/L/E/NE as possible with one enemy. 44% is good enough, if I really need that one more percent I can just grab some Invincibility fuel.
    • As close to perma Hasten** as possible with the +45% Rech very rare alpha. Current build has a gap of about 5 seconds which doesn't really bother me.
    • Last thing is obviously sustainability. I want to be able to spam my GC > GD > GC > SD chain forever!

**I only want/need this for perma DP and the ability to run GC > GD > GC > SD gapless.

F/C Defense isn't a concern because S/L takes care of much of it, and against pure F/C attacks that are melee I have DA (single application soft caps Melee Def). And as you can probably tell from the build, budget is unlimited because this is my main.

This is what I'm looking at currently, probably has room for at least some improvement.

    Soloing the STF!

I got bored because it was easy but slow. My build isn't at the hit chance cap for +3s (without Sleet) and because GW resists so much of it, I'm most of the time hovering at around 90% hit chance. I'm also using mace mastery so my own DPS isn't that high, I just use mace mastery to boost the DPS of my pets (another -30% Res), but GW effectively shuts down two of my pets thanks to her self heals, so I'm down to only using PA.

    Boring.

Good luck, I got bored soloing Ghost Widow as a level 54 so I wont be touching this challenge with a 100 foot pole anytime soon. Possibly in two months after my exams are finally over...

Probably how you'd do it naturally. "Turn on rooted. It'll help." or anything along the lines of that seems like a good way to me. At least that's the kind of stuff I really appreciate when I'm new in a game. As long as you're not purposefully rude it seems fine to me, some people might disagree, but then again they're probably those people who find any bit of criticism a personal attack.

  14. To be honest, for most content you'll be fine with "only" 30% to 40% F/C Defense (with one enemy). F/C attacks are much more uncommon than S/L/E/NE and pure F/C attacks are even more elusive, meaning S/L covers most of your F/C anyway. In a team situation where you might need that extra ounce of protection (AV, a lot of enemies), you'll likely get it from the team. Ever since inherent Fitness the number of people with Leadership pool has increased a lot. I'd use those slots spent getting an extra 5 to 10% F/C Defense into getting more offense, but I'm like that, I can never do enough damage and I dislike low damage more than anything.

    Just my take on it.
  15. I'd want all of my Scrappers to have a taunt aura.

Why? I build my Scrappers to survive and I'm ready to use insps if needed (especially when leveling up), and a taunt aura would help all of my teammates who chose another build focus. It would also remove something I find very frustrating at times: runners.

Having a taunt aura is one of the reasons my two favourite Scrappers are Kat/Inv and Elec/SD.

Or people who still keep in mind that the game is balanced for SOs. Unprepared toons? Those only exist at the level where the player hasn't slotted the character. Unprepared players, on the other hand, do exist. They are those who have no idea how to build their characters (as in, pick key powers) or how to use them.

Now if a couple of the niches keep rising I can say that I was the one keeping prices DOWN next time someone wants to blame me for high prices.....cause in 2 of them I have only 1 IO left to remind me which chest I store them in.

In some niches prices did nothing or went down (level 40 stuff in many cases did this) but many higher-end 50 stuff nearly doubled (or more).
    Very nice profits there

My 3 billion inf didn't include the PvP IOs I had saved up for the DXP, though. Adding those I'd probably be closer to the 5 billion mark, but still nowhere close to what you got! Then again, my marketeering was quite lazy. I did my Get All Inf -> Craft -> Put For Sale -> Bid On Salvage cycle once every day on two characters.
  18. Because Ghost Widow is usually the one to crash the party at an STF, I decided to go and see if I could solo her at level 54. Whittled her down to about 75% in 15 minutes (no insps, no temps), got bored and decided I could most probably do it, but I don't want to waste half of my evening trying to prove that. Screenshots are lacking because even though I managed to take a few, my screenshotui had reverted to 0 for some reason so there's no real point in posting those.

Lord Recluse on the other hand? I can't handle that fellow even at +0. The banes he summon quickly overwhelm me. I've never had problems with him on a team that didn't have problems with GW, though.

Conclusion: If your team knows how to build and play their character(s), STF shouldn't be too hard, even when speaking of SO or generic IO only builds. Keep in mind what I did was solo, on an STF you'd have 7 other guys backing you up.

P.S. I might try some other 54 AV tomorrow, Ghost Widow has resistance against my primary damage type which made the going very, very slow.

It could be problematic even if the game is balanced around SOs. EBs were never meant to be soloed so if you can't solo one, it's WAI.

I haven't tried the arc with a purely SO'd/generic IO'd character because none of my characters end up at 50 like that, but even without maximum IO builds it seems quite easy. Inspirations could easily pass for the IO bonuses because the fight has never taken me longer than two or three minutes.

However, there is a real difference between 'accessible' and 'completable'. Statesman's Taskforce is one of the most difficult challenges in the game. If you don't go at it a certain way and hold your head just right the whole time, you'll be made to regret it.
STF has been completed by a team of eight Scrappers. Your argument is invalid...

I do agree, though, that a specific team makeup does help a lot. The "correct" mix of archetypes is all the more significant the less experienced the team is, which I find is how it should be.

[tangent] I think games should have difficult content. Even content that many people fail. If everything in the game is always completable by anyone it becomes boring quickly. Some of the content could use different mechanics to make it challenging, though.[/tangent]
  22. Nice one!

This saves me a whole lot of time and mistakes now that I don't have to calculate the recharge value of every power myself. Thanks!

The only thing you left me wanting now is the +DMG in Power Siphon (Kin Melee) and correct scalability of Heat Loss (Cold Domination), and those two are very minor things.
  23. BS/Inv should do you good. If you want you can check some slotting/build ideas in my guide

    Soloing the STF!

He will spawn the banes when he reaches around 20% HP no matter what you have hitting him. At that point the summons can no longer be interrupted.

I tried soloing him at even level on my Illu/Cold, but couldn't do it. When the number of banes go past 10 it's impossible for PA to keep them all aggroed and they'll also stop DPSing Recluse making stuff again more difficult. More banes keep popping in and you're making slower progress on the main enemy, not pretty. On top of that, Sleet and Snow Storm aggro everything PA hasn't hit yet meaning a whole lot of banes coming your way.

Hyperbole doesn't convince me. I find it impossible to believe it took you 48 hours to craft at most 100 recipes. It takes about half a minute to a minute getting all the salvage for a recipe, 10 seconds to get to university from Steel/Cap WW/BM and then maybe another half a minute to craft 10 IOs. At best, that's about an hour for everything and at worst it's slightly less than double that.

If it really bothers you that much, I suggest being more patient with bids. As I said earlier, if you don't get everything at once you don't have to craft everything at once either. Saves you money, time and tedium. Then again, if you really enjoy farming it's a moot point.
