Quote:I was about to say this after reading the OP, but Werner got here first. Darn you! :PEVERYTHING works well with Katana.
Super Reflexes Divine Avalanche will turn a late-blooming secondary into an early-blooming combination, then can be dropped when you soft cap for maximum DPS. This is your choice if you believe that the best defense is a good offense, and the defense isn't bad either.
Invulnerability Very solid secondary made even more solid by soft capping melee and lethal defense. Probably the most capable of completely insane feats in the end game, at least when going up against lethal or melee smashing enemies.
Willpower The most common suggestion by the forums for anyone just looking for a good scrapper and without any specific needs. This combination is easy to build, easy to play, easy to level, and gives up nothing on top end power.
While Kat/SR and Kat/WP especially are more beginner friendly, Kat/Inv can be built to be very sturdy. On mine I can solo the Cimerora wall without taking a dent in my HP bar. RWZ challenge was just as easy.
Last achievement sort of thing I did on the Kat/Inv was soloing 3 AVs at once. Nothing spectacular, but it's better than what my FM/SR can do. The thing I like about Invuln is that while it loves the RNG it isn't completely reliant on it like SR. WP is good, too, but it lacks Def Debuff resistance which annoys me.
Check my guide if you're interested in building a kat/inv -

Quote:Oh. I was under the impression purples only dropped from minions...Costume recipes (Pool E) only drop from minions. Purples, like all Pool A recipes, drop from bosses, lieutenants and minions (as long as they aren't grey and are level 47+).
Anyways, minions will still probably be better if you try to get purples because you can mow down a spawn of minions much faster than a spawn of bosses. This isn't true, though, if the purple drop rates are significantly different between minions/lieutenants/bosses. -
I would actually take Screech because while it doesn't do too much damage, it's the best ST -RES power in Sonic Blast. It does the same -RES as other sonic attacks but the duration is much longer allowing you to stack bigger numbers of -RES.
You should always remember that as a defender (especially as a /sonic) building for your own DPS might come at the price of worse team DPS. I know you're multiplying it greatly as is, but more is always better. -
While soft capped builds may be popular on the forums that's hardly the reality. The casual player who doesnt use the forum/market/IOs/Mids is very likely not to have a soft capped build.
For reference, I 4 slotted the shields on my cold defender with this:
Gift of the Ancients: Defense
Gift of the Ancients: Def/End (2% recovery bonus)
Luck of the Gambler +7.5% Rech (expensive, I know...)
Karma KB Protection or Steadfast KB Protection (the shields take both) -
You'd probably want to get missions with loads of minions instead of bosses because purple recipes only drop from minions. Cimerora wall is nice for solo-minion bashing.
-
I'm not an expert on PvP, but you should probably go with a primary that has "Build Up" instead of Soul Drain or Follow-Up.
-
This starts well...
Quote:I have a simple question;
Are you trying to kill the game?
Quote:Prices from 250,000,000 to 400,000,000 on Purple sets, and certain Procs are absolutely outrageous.
Respec Recipe 200,000,000?
I'm expecting the supply (or lack of thereof) purple and respec to curve upwards with the release of i16. Broken AE farms and improved capacity of "normal" farmers.
Quote:Normal players of this game can not come close to affording these prices. Are you trying to force them to the Spam Sites?
Quote:Are you a source of Influence/Infamy for the Spam Sites?
On a serious note, no. What did you expect?
Quote:What gives?
Quote:I have several 50's and have enjoyed playing them, and IO'ing them.
Quote:I just created a new toon, and at your current Market Pricing, she'll never get IO'd out.
Quote:You think peeps will keep playing when they can't IO their toons? -
With Earth Assault around the corner I decided to dump my Earth/Fire (yeah, it's a good combo, but for some reason I just don't like it) and roll a Mind/Earth or Plant/Earth instead.
I haven't tried Mind or Plant before so I'd like to know any opinions from you dominator folks. The character will be mainly solo which is why I chose these two combinations. With Mind I expect it'll be a smoother ride from 1-50 thanks to the first five powers + terrify.
I'm thinking, as a Mind/Earth I could open up with Mass Hypnosis (available at each spawn), Dominate a possible straggler and then just pick them off one by one. Will most probably be too easy solo. The only thing I don't like is that Mind doesn't seem too useful in terms of team play... I could be wrong, though.
Plant/Earth on the other hand, seems like it could deliver more damage what with Roots, Creepers and the Pet going. It also has a safety maneuver in Seeds / Spore Burst. It seems a bit better for teams as well...
Hard choices I tell ye! -
Ok, so I came up with a new build I think I could also use for levelling up to save a respec. I know I could use a dual build, but then I couldn't slot anything I pick up that's needed for the build.
Anyways, before I go on with rolling this toon I'd like to know how bad it actually is endurance wise? I've heard some bad horror stories of Dark Armor, and never really tried it out properly. Just asking because the character will probably end up deleted if I find the Endurance too bad.
Here's the build anyway. FA is supposed to be Physical Perfection. I'll probably slot it with 2 Endmods and a chance for +End.

Blaze.
Highest DPA (and probably DPS too) in the game. It being a ranged attack is also a plus. -
It will perform extremely well in the AoE department if you can get the build to work.
I foresee difficulties in soft capping it while fitting in everything you might want from the three sets and attaining a reasonable amount of +recharge. -
Unless you're going for a GFS > Incinerate > Cremate chain instead of GFS > Incinerate > Cremate > FS you can drop most of that recharge. I have 15% global rech on my FM/SR AV soloer and I can run the GFS > Incinerate > Cremate > FS chain just fine.
Here's the build for reference.

I still consider Burn useful, and I actually have it on my Spines/Fire. It's good against regular foes (minions, lieutenants and bosses) when I've spammed Spine attacks and thrown Caltrops to cap -Speed effects. It also much, MUCH improves my ST damage against big targets like AVs.
This is all from my perspective, though, and I find Burn synergizes quite well with Spines... -
After looking through numerous combinations of powersets for a new character I ended up choosing a (yet another) scrapper. I've never tried DB or Dark Armour so just for the sake of it I decided to throw these two sets together and see what I could come up with.
Now, a couple of questions before we get to the build.
First, if I understood correctly it's a good idea to invest in +Defense, +End and +Recovery as a /Dark. I picked up the +End procs in Dark Regen and Stamina as well as Numina and Miracle uniques. Also ended up with 124 points of Endurance once I get the passive Accolades.
Second, I really wouldn't want to take Cloak of Darkness. While it's numerically clearly the superior choice to Weave, I don't want it to blur my costume and the DB animations. Should I just get over it and grab it? (P.S, will switch this for the Physical Perfection thing in an instant if it's the rumoured half Stamina/Health combination power)
Third, the Sweep combo attack. I didn't pick up 1k Cuts because most DB builds I've seen don't take it. I'll most probably try it during the leveling phase and make a final decision based on that. Is Sweep good enough to warrant the long animation of 1k Cuts? Should be noted that I really like AoE damage.
Well, here's what I came up with. Any improvements you can come up with are very welcome because I'm inexperienced with both of the sets here.
EDIT: Also if you make a new build you can pretty much get the price range from the build I posted. I'm looking for a relatively "cheap" build, but basically the only rules are absolutely no purples and LotG +Rech only if absolutely needed.

I've achieved something similar to this.
I got 2-6 of each hero archetype at 50 currently, but that's at the cost of villains where I only have 3 level 50 characters. I just somehow cant really get into villain characters...
Nowadays I mostly concentrate on playing duos with an RL friend. Currently have no serious projects underway before i16 lands. -
Quote:There is another set of those Defense / Resistance uniques in the regular pet IO sets. Check them out!Of course i forgot that regular pets don't accept Recharge Intensives... oh well, at least the idea still holds for most of the IO's >.<
You could slot your tier 1 pets with
Defense unique (Edict of the Master)
Resistance unique (Sovereign Right)
Acc/Dam/End (any set)
Acc/Dam/End (any set)
Acc/Dam (any set)
Acc/Dam or Dam/End (any set)
That's just an example and there probably are better ways to slot your pets. -
Quote:They're not picked for the set bonus. They're there to add to the Acc/Dam/Rech/End stats of your attacks. This is something people often skip, they'll underslot powers only to get some bonuses.just wondering why you priotized mako's for the immob resist instead of say dark watchers for the extra hp's?
Kinetic Combat is very low on Accuracy and quite low on End and Rech, so it wouldn't be very smart (IMO) to skip adding slots to better those stats. -
I don't see why that wouldn't work. In fact, that's exactly what I'd do if I my MM had any of those IOs.
-
Ooo I wonder how I ever managed to not notice this post.
First things first; answers to your questions.
Tough/Weave? When levelling up I'd take Tough, but not Weave. It'll cost you too much Endurance unless you have set bonuses with +Recovery or +End.
Defenses? Go with Invuln's typed.
Skippables? Calling the Wolf, Unstoppable and maybe Flashing Steel. Of the two exotic resistance passives, Resist Elements is the more skippable.
Check my guide for further info -
Quote:Kat/Inv doesn't really even need soft cap to be able to solo most AVs. Mine was able to take on 3 of them at the same time and solo them all without insps/temps.Ehh, I'll throw this out there.
I have a Kat/Inv gathering dust at 50 and just today I started thinkung about that combo.
Softcapping with one application of DA and all that.
Maybe?
It is a glorious combo
If you're interested in my build, check the guide in my sig.
On the topic, I'd also be interested to see what people come up with for Claws/Inv. I might try something myself, too... -
Here's the not-particularly-expensive build I use on my FM/SR scrapper. I've soloed AVs with it and I imagine a brute could tank with it given the taunt in brute Evasion.

I'm actually running a Shield/DM/Pyre Tanker at the moment. I'd imagine a scrapper with the same sets would be 1) insanely fun to play and 2) unstoppable.
The bad thing about going for DM/Shield/Pyre is that you'll be VERY short on slots for both powers and enhhancements. Soft capping while maintaining high recharge will be difficult. Although you can skip quite a lot of the +Rech if you're willing to use Fire Blast as a filler in your MG > Smite > SL > Smite chain.
Here's my Shield/DM/Pyre build to give you ideas:
