  1. I was planning a duo with my RL friend the other day and we ended up choosing ElM/SD + Emp/Sonic as the two characters we'd play. Me being a Scrapper type of person I naturally chose the Scrapper... While I'm expecting the leveling to be quite easy (I'm getting heals, Fort, +regen and +recov and some -RES on top of that!) I started tinkering a lvl 50 IO build.

Goals for the build were quite naturally 1) soft capped def 2) global rech 3) regen and 4) recovery. The build I ended up with seems quite good with 3.5 EPS (+ 2x PS proc), 31.4 hp/sec regen and 47.5% global rech. At 50 I want this build to be able to solo well which I think it will be fine for. I'm thinking of playing solo at +2/6 or something like that, but I'll see about that when/if I get there.

    So, what do you think?

    Vitality vs

    Nice!

What attack chain do you use and how long did the fight take? I'm interested because I might give it a shot on my Ice/SS.

And what's up with this post right here? You say the caps weren't on purpose, but yet there is a distinct system of capitalizing the first letter of every word, and on top of all this is extra effort. Hardly NOT on purpose.

And I kind of feel sorry for your teachers at school if you always type like that. You know, all the work through many years and you still haven't learnt one of the simplest rules of grammar... *sigh*

Sorry if this comes out harsh
  4. Spines/Willpower or Claws/Willpower Scrapper would be my choice. Very hard to go wrong with either and it should be good both solo and in teams. Your single target damage will be a bit weak with Spines but you'll have some great AoE and mitigation, with Claws you'd have a lot better single target DPS, but weaker AoE. Once you have most of your AoEs just set your difficulty so that you have many relatively weak foes to mow over them fast.

[I was hoping I could run most of the toggles at the same time. That would really kick ***.]
But... You can? There are no toggles on Scrappers that prevent you from running another toggle at the same time.
  6. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Peacebringers yet. As someone who has one of these at level 50 (my second level 50, in fact) I think they're the most useless AT in the whole game. Peacebringers don't have much to bring to the table. They have quite weak damage, a weak single heal, KB in just about every AoE attack which makes their team DPS even less feasible and they don't even get mez protection to compensate. Oh, I forgot, they can have an ok offtanking power, though.

To be honest, though, there's absolutely nothing a Scrapper can't do better than a Peacebringer can. DPS? Scrappers win. Survival? Scrappers win in most cases, it can be a close call with a good PB player, though. Buffs? Neither have any, if it's a /SD Scrapper PBs lose by far. Heals? Ok, PBs have one weak ally heal, it has never, ever saved the day for me because usually in teams there are either enough buffs, debuffs, proper heals or competent players going about the PB heal is only good for topping off people after fights.

I'm not saying here I hate PBs, I quite like their unique playing mechanisms, but their weakness sort of hurts the gaming experience for me. What I hate playing about them is the feeling that they're not actually good at anything... You can correct me on this if you want.

    Sonic/Psy

I've had a Sonic/Psy defender at 50 for a while now and I've always had one problem with it. No matter how I respec it the endurance drain is just horrible because of Disruption Field, which arguably is the best power of the set along with the Sonic Bubble. I have a couple of template versions in Mid's but none of them seem too good, to be honest.

Before I set you on your task to make me a better build I'll give you the few things I want:
    1) Reasonable Ranged and AoE def. That is to say 25% or higher.
    2) Endurance! I want easily manageable endurance and preferably without dipping into Elec or Dark mastery because I want Mind Over Body :P
    3) Tactics if possible. I don't mind if you use Maneuvers as a mule.

As for price limits, no purples (unless sleep/confuse set), no LotGs (I don't even see Sonic/Psy benefitting much from +rech) and no Numi/Miracle unless absolutely needed.

Anyways, here's my latest try. Sonic Cage is there for STF because I heard you could cage the towers.

  8. I'd say simply give us -inf associated with debt. It would fit thematically, too.

The numbers can't be too high, though, or we'll drown in a sea of whine. But say, get defeated at lvl 50 and you lose 100k. Not much by any standards (2 lvl 50 SOs from Ghost Falcon), but every little -inf adds up.

Also I like the idea of double crafting cost tables at WWs, even though I'd never use them myself.

How to fix it: there's a format that's called something like zzboards, use that one!
  10. DSorrow

    AR/Ice

Pick up Shiver. It should seriously help.
  11. Just looking at it in general, I'll give you what I think

    1) The KB problem. As far as I know when a person's KB protection is 0 or higher he isn't being knocked back. Most KB powers give you a very short negative -KB protection that sends you flying, which means that with a KB that's powerful enough your KB protection will go into negatives for a short amount of time as seen in pic 1.

    2) The def debuff was a lot easier. If you look at the base defense (the top defense value) you'll see this:

Arm Lash - -57.60% from Lord Recluse.

    Hope this helped.
  12. Darn. I guess this means yet another alt. Curse you I16!!

  13. I've got two builds here; the first one is a budget build for you and the second is what I use on my SD/DM.

  14. I've only had it happen back when my brother and I used to have a shared account (I know, against the rules and all that...) but he left the game a couple of years back so haven't had it happen recently.

I guess you should be a bit worried and check your PC for keyloggers and stuff like that. You sure you don't have a RL friend who plays CoH and knows some of your regular usernames/passwords? I'm not implying they're trying to steal your stuff, but just checking what kind of chars you have or something.
  15. I guess a /Rad, /Dark or even /TA corr wouldn't be bad either.
  16. That shouldn't be a problem because the character in question is already level 50 and I've already done the TF Commander accolade requirements. Guess I'm ready for the respec, then...
  17. Mmm... I do get your point about the blapping aspect and I guess it wasn't the best choice of wording here :P

The question should probably have been worded like this: do I have enough mitigation to fight enemies in melee range? With PSW recharging in about 8 seconds I don't see me doing much hopping in and out of melee, but I will probably do that or stay at range against the deadly stuff like Vanguard.

  20. I actually meant blapping as in playing a blaster in melee range. Sitting there in Snow/Ice Storm to get most out of my PBAoE. As I said, I'd only need a single purple insp to be at 43% S/L Def which most of the time is more than enough. Besides, I can always pop a BF and Hibernate if things go really bad.
  21. I'd say 30% is definitely enough. I'm playing a Dark/Rad Defender tankmage who is at mid 20s Def to all positions and I can wade into melee with little worry.
  22. Problem solved if Brutes get their taunt reduced to Single Target like Scrappers? This is assuming, though that there are Tankers switching sides, too...
  23. After discovering the holy trinity that is Defense, Defense and Defense I realized I should respec my Ice/MM Blaster to make it more fun to play. Sure, it is very fun to play as it is, but it's quite reliant on teammates keeping attacks and mezzes especially aimed away from me.

I came up with a build that keeps the level of global Rech I have currently so I can juggle my ST chain as I'm used to. The big change is, 30% S/L Def and 24% Ranged Def. While not at the soft cap I'm not afraid to use insps where needed so I guess this will make a great change in my survival. This came at the cost of Psy Scream (I changed this for Ice Storm), my two holds (how seriously is this going to affect my survival?) and Assault (admittedly my lvl 49 power pick).

I'm thinking the playstyle of this build would be something like this: jump in a mob, hit Drain Psyche and drop Ice Storm + Snow Storm and then spam ST attacks and PSW as they come up and hope I stay alive. Sounds very good to me! Frost Breath is there for those situations where it is not preferable that I jump into melee range (such as the STF, for example) and also because there was, in my opinion, nothing better to pick at level 4.

Oh, and one more thing. This is basically an unlimited-budget-but-no-purples type of build so if you come up with any improvements within that parameter they are very, very welcome! The purple Confuse set is the only purple set I'm going to get and it's there for two reasons: 1) great bonuses and 2) I already have it.

  24. I guess it's just about there being no salvage available at 15k. Most likely it's a flipper buying them for 15k, then someone tosses in a couple of those salvage for 1 inf and you get them because your bid is 1 inf higher than that of the flipper.
  25. I only have a couple of things to say here:

First, I think it's stupid to compare a team support AT against a DPS/tank hybrid AT when it comes to soloing. Of course the AT with medium Defense and high Offense is going to beat a support AT at soloing. When it comes to teams, though, a Defender works as a force multiplier which means he is often much more useful than a Scrapper.

Second, by giving all ATs mez protection you would have some ridiculously overpowered heroes and villains running around. Say, give my Fire/EM Blaster mez protection and now I'm already better than most of my Scrappers. 35% S/L Def, 32% Ranged Def, insane damage and mez protection.

Third, the change advocates here are missing something. In CoH mezzes work in a 1/0 way. Either you are mezzed (1) or you are not (0) and there is no middle ground. If you gave everyone mag 2 mez protection you're making most of the mezzes NPCs have useless. If you really want to make a game as easy as this even easier I don't know what's wrong with you. We have inspirations pouring out of our ears (compare to potions in some games) and we don't even have to collect ingredients for them, neither do we have ultra-difficult fight mechanisms or anything. If you really want an easier game I suggest you go have a look at Minesweep.
