A former Navy SEAL, Karl Jackson was expelled after he beat a fellow SEAL nearly to death in a fit of rage. Almost immediately he was acquired by a mercenary outfit for his skills, knowledge and ruthlessness. Having led several successful missions around the world, and through sheer brutality, he became the leader of the unit. The units very next mission was in northern Romania.
The Romanian mission was to force a coup of a reigning warlord in the region. The warlords family had ruled there for generations. While infiltrating the local population his unit was befriended by a band of gypsies. The bands fortuneteller, Madame Karlova, gave dire warnings that if the unit did not leave immediately there would be grave consequences. Ignoring the seers warnings, Karl seduced the fortunetellers beautiful daughter, she even gave him a silver necklace as a memento. When Madame Karlova discovered this, she banished Karl and his men from the camp. Karl and his men decided they would take over the gypsy camp for themselves. In the ensuing battle all the gypsies were killed, even the gypsy girl he enjoyed the company of was killed by a stray bullet. With her dying breath, Madame Karlova swore a vile curse upon Karl and his men. With the camp burned to the ground and every last gypsy dead, he and his men were forced to seek refuge in the forest.
The first night brought a full moon and a rampaging werewolf into their camp. The werewolf tore through Karls men like they were toys. In a fit of rage, Karl wrapped the necklace the gypsy girl had given him around his fist and leaped at the beast. After a grizzly battle Karls rage and the silver necklace stood victorious. Karl curled up in a ball and passed out.
Karl awoke to the smell of burning flesh. He discovered his hand practically on-fire where he still held the gypsy girls silver necklace. Bewildered, tired, hungry and having lost a copious amount of blood, Karl staggered in the woods for some time until he passed out again at the door of an old stone keep deep in the woods.
This time when Karl awoke, he found himself in a straw bed with warm blankets and a pail of hot water, the exits were another story altogether. Iron bars and a heavy lock adorned the only exit to the room he was in. A tall, lean, fair-skinned man who called himself Boris Dragosani proclaimed to be his savior. That name... Karl remembered it from somewhere in the back of his fevered brain. YES! It was the name of the man he was sent here to help overthrow.
Boris explained that Karl was infected with Lycanthropy and that he would become a raging killing machine during the full moon and the day before and after it, every month from now until he died. The only thing that could harm him is pure silver. Boris tried to make Karl understand that only he could possibly understand Karls newfound predicament and that Karl should begin to see him as a mentor and tutor. Karl would have none of it. His rage was all the fuel and guidance he needed.
On the first night of the next full moon, even Boris Dragosanis ironworks proved to be no match for Karls pent-up rage combined with his newfound powers. Karl rent the bars asunder and trashed the laboratory setting fire to the entire keep. What become of Boris, no one knows.
Karl watched the fire burn through a wolfs eyes. Then as the flames began to scorch even his nearly invulnerable hide he loped away into the forest to stalk more prey.
When Karl returned to civilization 3 days later he was cold and naked and in a small Romanian town where he couldnt understand anyone. This fueled his rage and he transformed into the werewolf in broad daylight in the middle of the town market. He slaughtered many people that day before a contingent of Longbow captured him. The Freedom Phalanx unit was there originally to stop the attempted coup but stayed an extra week to do some investigating when the warlords castle mysteriously burned.
Karl was bound in titanium chains and locked away in a dark cell in the Ziggurat prison in Paragon City. Karls rage at being imprisoned kept him in werewolf form 24/7 so no attempt to rehabilitate him was even attempted due to the extreme danger involved. He was fed dog-food and water in a dog dish every day for 3 years.
3 years later Karl could hear the sounds of what seemed like a riot on the floors above him. The sounds grew louder and closer then there was silence and a bright light entered the room. A beautiful gypsy girl, no, THE beautiful gypsy girl was there. How, how was this possible?! Karls rage subsided and he returned to his human form. The chains that had bound him so long slipped from his body and crashed to the floor of the cell. He was free.
The girl, who was she, a sister, a twin, a clone and what was her name? It didnt matter because 2 heavily armed and armored Arachnos soldiers stepped between him and her. A third whisked her away. Karl felt his rage begin to build. The two men in front of him explained that they were here to break him out of the Zig and if he ever wanted to see the girl again he would have to learn to control his rage and do the bidding of Lord Recluse. Karl wanted nothing more than to see the gypsy girl again, he had so many questions, he readily agreed.
