Saw a Spine/Dark scrapper last night with the Rularuu eyeball lore pet. Thematically, they are a GREAT fit together....both big spiny blobs.

^^ Lighten up Francis. It was a joke.
And "teams" of support characters just about equal the effectiveness of a solo scrapper/brute. That part, you got right. -
Quote:Hey, don't feel bad. I was gone for years and came back and had to learn the IO system and Incarnates both at the same time. It can be overwhelming because you haven't been 'slowly' learning the more complex stuff but instead get it like a fire hose all at once.I left this game early February 2010, just last week I re subbed for a month, I am yet to purchase GR, however before I do I was hoping if the whole incarnate situation could possibly be explained to me? I've searched the forum and on the wiki etc and I still don't completely understand it, How many 'incarnates' can you get, or the powers or whatever? How many +levels can you get because I see people outside of trials with 50+1, is there a limit to the powers you can get? whats the list of incarnate powers that are available? how long does it take, is there a noticeable effect on character performance, pve and pvp wise etc.
Thank you in advance, if anyone does take the time out to help me
As for "are incarnate powers noticeable," its very noticeable. Not just due to the level shifts either. The increase in power you get from the Alpha and Interface slots can take the place of "global enhancements" in major ways. For example, with a Tier 4 slotted Alpha/Spiritual, you will find a major recharge buff that is very noticeable, especially if you already have been building your character out for high +Recharge via Hasten and IO +RCHGE sets.
The Lore Pets are noticeable if you solo a bunch, otherwise, I don't use them all that much other than for fun. The Judgment powers are like defender-level nukes and are very noticeable. The Destiny powers are nice buffs as well. But the real thing is when these powers start to STACK with other players who also have Incarnate powers slotted. You'll find yourself feeling "less powerful" when playing with others who have them and you don't. And this is, to some extent, the intent behind Incarnates from the COH dev team....they want you to be Jonesing to have what the other guy has. So you play your 50's, you experience the new content....yes, you'll grind it too.
Nonetheless, I'd highly recommend you get Incarnates on at least one of your lvl 50's. You may (like me) want to pimp out several of your 50's but that will take a substantial amount of your time. But you should have at least one just so you can experience all the new end-game content that is being thrown our way. -
I've run 24 trials since Sunday with three different toons, a brute, scrap and a kinetics defender. For the 'fender (since your question specifically called for group buffer perspectives), he's run 7 of those 24 with 4 of those being Keyes.
Total for the 24 runs combined across all three characters:
Common: 18
Uncommon: 6
No rares, no VR's.
From my limited and insignificant sampled perspective, no change. You hit a lucky streak. -
Personally, I've never once gotten into a league using the LFG feature. I'll stand in Pocket D with leagues forming all around me, coming and going, and even though I'm in the LFG queue it won't pull me in with any of them.
I find its just easier to watch for someone yelling "LFM" and then get an invite from them directly. -
I'm 7 for 8 on Keyes so far. Its getting faster but still have so many newbies running it that it takes longer than it should. The first run yesterday after server reset was a spectacular fail thanks to the 3 scrappers who screamed "KILL IT" as soon as Antimatter showed up LOL.
I rather enjoy this trial actually. Moreso than LAM at least. There's a bit more of a strategic approach you can take with this one as long as you have team members willing to play certain roles (PUG's won't do this often). It reminds me of a mini-Hami raid from that perspective, but here you have Battery teams, Warworks teams, Tauntbot/Healer teams, etc. With the right teams who know and play their roles, this could become almost as fast to run as the BAF I think. -
The SS/FA/Mu build is going to be hard to beat in iTrials. You really do well at the BAF, can solo crates/chambers during the Lam easily enough (especially +3 level shifted) and your self-heal keeps you going during the Keyes.
Honestly, out of all the others you've listed, its going to be hard to compare. But I think a close second would be to roll another /FA brute, this time a Claws/FA brute. There's a mission sequence in AE that will let you self-powerlevel that character from 1-50 in about 11 hours. Check the forums (thread titled something like 'good farming from where I'm at now' or similar).
Two-three nights of casual play and you've got a new 50 that is almost as powerful as your current SS/FA but with enough of a twist in animations/playstyle that it could keep things new for you. -
Went with carnies and created a pimp costume. They be my beeches.

Quote:Eeek, great post. I agree with all your points on soloing the Vig and Villain Tips. And like you I was horrified at how vile and dark they were. I was expecting "dastardly deeds" and instead got missions where I would intentionally kill a young kid that was trying to use me as a role model. Its some dark stuff...good storytelling, but given my hero status, it really was hard to see myself doing some of these things. You "arrest" blue side. Red side, you kill and abuse. But the missions weren't hard....just set difficulty low if you want to do them quickly. Good advice to ignore the text....not for us goody-two-shoes.My point being, are you sure you need the defense armor? Are there other means available to you, if you don't really want to take the trip to the dark side? For squishy toons who have to be in melee range (kins, hot feet users, heavy AoE users, blappers) then getting defense armor might be your best bet.
On your point I quoted, here's the thing with Scorp Shield (or Shadow Meld which is a PPP I took for my scrapper when I went redside). Those are great powers available without a lot of trash powers as pre-req's. For a min-maxer, you likely want zero useless pre-req's and the best power you can get, even if it doesn't quite match thematically. But there's a limit to how far you'll go. Throwing Ice Armor onto a sword-and-board crusading time traveling knight isn't likely going to win anyone over. In PVP maybe, but not when you are working a tight build and need to min/max your powers and slots both.
So I just concocted a "I was temporarily possessed by the debil" story and worked it into my character for why I went redside for the power. BTW...Shadowmeld is a GREAT +DEF power. Highly recommended, especially for regenners who are going after incarnates. MOG>Shadowmeld>Shadowmeld>Barrier>MOG>Shadowmeld>Shadowmeld.....fantastic defense, lets you really focus your IO's on recharge instead. -
Good guide but I'll add a little tip.
You say you need to bring Anti-Matter to each terminal. While correct, one of the better ways to do this is to have a tanker with a healer/buffer play taunt-bot. Just keep him busy while a team clears a terminal, then have that tanker bring Anti-Matter to that terminal. Destroy terminal and have the team move to the next one, taunt-bot staying behind until called to bring him to another.
Also, Anti-Matter seemed to get "stucK' in corners/geometry a lot in all three runs of this I've done this AM already. Taunting helps to un-stick him. -
I've done two Keyes since server resets.....one successful, the other not.
I'm on a Mac COH client, which is buggy as hell and prone to crash 2-3 times per hour for a variety of issues. But Keyes wasn't laggy for me at all in either run. By comparison, I did a 24-man BAF right after the second Keyes and it was VERY laggy.
So I don't think its necessarily the new map for Keyes. Could be a host of other issues. -
Market prices of Numina +regen/+recov seem to be dropping already. Price is 32 Astrals at the vendor. I earn that many in a night of trials.
-
Freedom's up, I'm in Ouro pimping meself out now!
Just joined a Keyes Trial....lol, nobody knows what is going on. -
Freedom's up...I'm in your Base, stealing your stuff!

NRG/NRG....its hard to pair anything up with NRG/ primary that meshes well with all the knockback. So if you've already decided you want knockback, then Boost Range, BU, Power Boost, etc. will just help you blast better.
Should also note that knockback is a great way to use Bonesmasher and Total Focus. Once they are down, you have the time to SS up there and blap a bit. With some luck, you can take down a boss without them ever getting a shot off at you. -
I suspect we may get an initial "preview" of Freedom's upcoming effects with the release of 20.5 today. Since Emp Merits and Astrals can now be used to purchase IO recipe's, we may see some of the prices in the market fall as a result. I've T4'd out two of my 50's and between them they have over 350 Astrals and 100 Emps remaining. Will be interesting to see what the prices are for the IO's using Astrals/Emps.

Servers are scheduled to be down until 10A CST/8A Pacific today.

Quote:I have an account filled with nothing but farm-oriented toons. Its been around for several years. I only turn it on/off when I want to bypass the first 32 levels on a new build that looks promising.Man... I don't usually do farming, but you guys are actually making it sound like fun.
In that account I've got a Fire/Dev blaster (man that goes WAAAAY back to PL'ing via street sweeping when the powerset had some serious glitches), a Fire/Fire tanker, a Fire/Ice tanker, a Fire/Kin 'troller, a SS/Fire Brute, an Elec/Fire brute and now (thanks to this thread) a Claws/Fire Brute. Wow, just realized typing that list that Fire is the key ingredient to a farmer, going allll the way back to Issue 1.
You don't HAVE to have IO's to build a capable farmer. It sure helps, and to maximize the speed/durability of the farmer it REALLY helps. But given how quick inspirations drop and how useful they are, you don't NEED IO's. You may want them, but right now the only one of those farming builds I have on that account that is IO'd out is the SS/Fire brute.
I just pay for the account one month here, one month there and otherwise let it go dormant. Once you PL up a new crop of toons for yourself, you don't have much time for farming anyways as you are busy leveling the new kids with PVE missions.
This is what I think so many anti-farmers don't understand. Only a small percentage are farming for profit. Most of us do it for ourselves or our close friends. Its every bit as social as standing around in Atlas under the globe doing a CC or emoting. Its just a different way to pass the time. -
FF was never all that useful IMO. But then again, I play a lot of scrappers and brutes. When you play a melee toon, support characters are just your entourage.
-
There are two builds posted in this thread. The second one is post-inherent fitness. It's around 21% S/L defense and 70% recharge IIRC. I respecced into this build when I hit 50 with my DP/MM.
DP/MM to me is all about jumping into a spawn after the tank/scrap/brute and Drain Psyche + HOB or Psychic Shockwave. Do note, however, that the Ragnaroks and Apoc's that build calls for at current market prices can easily run you 3-4 BILLION ALONE just for those two sets. The rest of the build is maybe another 1 Billion or so....chump change by comparison. You can sub in some other sets if you don't have the scratch but it will cost you defense.
With Incarnate powers, you could go with Ageless and Spiritual and get your global recharge that way, or pick up Barrier for some handy defense. -
To listen to a lot of posters in these forums, blasters are made of cheap whine.
That wasn't a typo. -

Sorry to necro-post but I wanted to comment on something said in the post above me.
The Villain Tips have a few missions where you outright _kill_ an NPC. In one, you even cause someone's grandmother to have a heart attack and die as you attempted to "fool" a relative into doing your bidding. I'm trying not to give spoilers here so pardon my vagueness.
My point is I took a full hero to redside and back just for a PPP. I tried to work the rationale into my character bio as a brief stint with a cursed relic. But the Villain missions are definitely dark and evil. It makes it hard to play off as a ruse when you commit murder or manslaughter. -
I'd tell you to move to a Mac, but the Mac version of this game is so highly unstable as to be laughable. I do, however, read every thread on "lag" since on the Mac version "debilitating lag" usually happens immediately before the client crashes the whole machine.
Congrats on finding your particular culprit, however.
