Oh, it's so hard to choose. I love them all. But I find that when I just want to play for kicks (i.e. I have no goal in mind such as leveling or doing tips), or when I just need to grab a character to help somebody out, or to run with my friends, my go-to is always my main. Which I guess is why she's still my main.
She's an Ice/Dark corruptor.

I often find searching the forums with Google to return better results than the built in search feature. A search for "site:boards.cityofheroes.com DM/Regen" brings up a page full of what looks like Scrapper forum posts (although I didn't drill down into them). You can further limit by date so you don't get a bunch of old posts.

Quote:I stand firmly with the "because I like them crowd." I enjoy the playstyle. I find them to be by far the most fun AT to solo, and one of the easiest. I find that I also greatly enjoy my Claws/Nin on teams and in trials, although I seem to prefer to solo my BS/EA. Too early to tell how my Elec/Ice will shape up in terms of teaming; she's new and has only solo'd so far. I also enjoy brutes and I love my tank, but I find scrappers a bit dull. That's just me. Of course, you've already discounted the "because I like them" answer as a cop-out, so frankly, I'm a little curious as to what you hope to get from this thread. If you're looking for numbers or mechanics that show the stalker to be functionally superior to the other melee ATs, I suspect you already know you're not going to get them. If you enjoy the playstyle, play a stalker. If you don't, play something else and more power to you.I been poking around with an Elec/Nin stalker and I like the idea of it, but I'm not certain that this is the sort of character that I can make a big investment in as far as time and influence simply, because it seems like anything a stalker can do another AT can typically do better.
Why play a stalker? What is so great about a stalker that make you want to play it? The low hit points, the less effective secondaries (Compared to scrappers), the relatively low damage out of stealth....
What am I missing? -
Ah I see your point. You are providing instruction, something the particular league leader I ran with did not do, but not getting the necessary response from players (i.e. to move away from the group).
-
Snow Globe, I agree with all your points. The big one for me is "make it shorter." DreadShinobi seems to have some good ideas for doing that. Just getting rid of some of the "filler" fights would help a lot. I particularly agree with Dread's point about the ambushes.
Regarding Desdemona, I so very much wish they would just get rid of her. If they won't, then letting the league leader pick the handler seems like a decent compromise. In another thread, I also suggested giving the person who has "control" (and I use that word loosely) of Desi for 3/4's of the Trial a bit of a larger chance to get a Rare or VR, but now that they're changing the end rewards, that's largely moot. And hurray for that!
Regarding your discussion of the War Walker phase though, I feel like I should insert some defense of the people who are new to the Trial and have no idea what they're supposed to be doing when targetted. That was me, the first time I ran it. Fortunately, I didn't cause a disaster, but I certainly could have had I made a different decision about how to react. I ran away. But it was definitely more of a "this seems like the most likely appropriate reaction" moment than it was an "I know what I'm doing" moment. Having said that, I suppose I agree that visual cues should be more clear, as if they were, somebody might have been able to tell me to get away from the league.
And now I'm running late and have to be off, but thank you for starting this thread and your "How to make Keyes more fun thread." -
Quote:Well I completely agree about the potential for this sort of behavior to develop, and very much expected it to, but so far I have been gratified to see that it doesn't seem to have happened, at least on the server I play on. I'm not trying to deny that you've had this experience of being shunned; I'm simply saying that it is not the same one I've had. And one of the characters I've incarnated so far is my Claws/Nin stalker. Never had a problem getting her onto a league. Could be that the experience of getting a trial is different on different servers. However, I am curious about the part I've bolded in your quote. What was it that lead you to conclude you would never be picked? Did you ask for a spot and get rejected? So I drop myself into the LFG tab and pick a trial Id like to see. If I am really motivated to get into a trial I might run around to Pocket D/the Vanguard base in RWZ/The Midnighters council room and see if people are forming up. If I ever do see groups forming, which is very rare now days; I quickly realize I will never be picked by a gate keeper priest anyway. I am clearly one of the undesirables and I am shunned. Incarnate trials a wonderful new aspect of City of Heros for those deemed worthy.

Quote:Every time this argument is presented it is soundly rebuked by numerous sensible responses. Such responses are already starting to pile up in this thread. And yet it Just.Won't.Die.In the end, how I see things is that it's an MMORPG.
That's massively multi-player online role playing game. If you could solo your way through the entire thing, why not just play a console game?
Although to Rapthorne's credit, at least he or she added the following bit. That's a lot more reasonable than most of the posts you see this particular presumption trotted out in.

Opened a ticket with support for this, but I'm wondering if anybody knows what the name of the facial stripe on this character was, or if it has been moved someplace and I'm just not finding it? Currently whenever I try to load her into the costume creator I get an "invalid" warning and I have to manually reset her hair and face, but without her tattoo, which I can no longer find.

But you can forego the random roll and choose a specific recipe at a specific level, such as if you want to get a recipe that is likely to sell better at lower levels. Now, I'm not sure if the person you were replying to was discussing random rolls or specific recipes, so my apologies if you already knew this.

Quote:Awww...I knew that was too good to be true.Signature Story Arcs
- Players must now be confirmed as Heroes or Villains (i.e., their most recent Morality Mission confirmed their alignment) in order to claim Alignment Merits as rewards from Signature Story Arcs
While I do appreciate an update devoted to bugfixes, I have to agree with a few other posters who have wondered when we'll once again be able to use our actual group's emblem in our bases. I created a new base yesterday and found that it's not just existing bases that were effected; trying to add an item with the emblem on it gave me the biohazard symbol, not my VG symbol. -

I might. I don't know what Super Tailor access means?
EDIT: Ah, I found the info. The ability to change height, gender, etc. that came with the Science pack. You are right, I do have that. -
Quote:I'm partially in agreement with you. Only partially, because limitations on respecs don't effect my enjoyment of the game to the extent where I stop playing. I consider it more a mild irritation. In a nutshell: restrictions on how often I can respec are the big reason why I can't play this game for any long stretch of time.... [snip]
I do run out of respecs because I love to tweak my characters' builds. You could almost say it's like a little mini-game to me. If anything, the discovery of Mids has made it worse, not better. Now I can obsess over the build in Mids, trick the character out in it, play for a while, and even really like it. But after a while...the itch will start. Case in point, I opened up my main's Mids build the other night just because. I mean who knows, maybe I'll see something that could be changed to make her juuuuust that little bit better. (Granted, you might never know this if you play with me; I am not uber).
Maybe this is because I also play another game and started there first, where I can change my character's skills almost at will. I got spoiled. Playing with builds is one of the joys of that game for me, too. I'm well aware that this quirk of mine is not well suited to this, or to most, MMO's. I'm an outlier in this regard, and I accept that. My friends just shake their virtual heads at my strange ways. I do appreciate that the devs have made it easier and easier to respec frequently over time, but if they ever did decide to just allow us to respec at will, I'd be Snoopy-dancing all over the server. -
A friend and I both encountered this a couple of nights ago when we were running our female widow and female soldier together. The costume slot unlocked during Brick's arc was indeed set to the generic male model. However, we found that if we attempted to load our saved Arachnos costumes and then check "Attempt to Fix" it did a passable job of fixing. It did not get the face or hair right and of course, could not copy the costume, but it did change the gender to female and set the scales appropriately, so we were able to work with that.

Thanks, as always, for putting in the time and effort to post these notes, Von Krieger.

Quote:*laughs* Indeed...I may not run at +4/x8 but the mobs taught me rather quickly that a run at my level 50 settings would not go as smoothly as usual at level 20.Now you do have to adjust your difficulty settings a little, if you try to run +4/x8 at level 20 you probably won't like it very much

Quote:You almost sound like you're describing myself and some of the people I play with. And it would still be more convenient for us to be able to invite our own alts, or even send offline invites to each other. I'm sure it would be an even more welcome QoL improvement for those who don't choose to use SGs & VGs the way you and I choose to, regardless of the number of friends they may or may not have (since it is surely impossible to determine whether or not somebody has friends and/or trusted associates based soley on whether or not they choose to have a solo SG/VG).People in my playgroup used to pass millions to their new alts. This was back when (1) a million was a big deal; (2) there was no global mail; and (3) you could only do it in chunks of 99k. Being the go-between in that transaction was something we did for each other. It required a certain amount of trust (see 1) and patience (see 3), but we did it. (Uphill, through the snow, both ways.)
We also have a lot of small, themed, near-vanity SGs. When someone makes a new alt they want to put in one of these SGs, someone with a character in that SG logs in, invites them, and logs out. (It's not uncommon for that character to be automatically handed the leader star as soon as they do log in; these are not exactly active SGs.) I personally do not believe it would be much more inconvenient to either leave a friend's alt in the SG specifically to do invites, or to have one's main invite a friend, promote them, have them invite the alt and then quit the SG.
I support the OPs suggestion, and will every time it appears on this forum. And I have no doubt that this feature will continue to be asked for and will eventually be implemented. -
I understand. I too feel bad for some people. Sometimes I even feel bad for people with a severely limited capacity for understanding anything that differs from their own myopic viewpoint. Sometimes when they go out of their way to display said limitation, I don't feel quite as bad anymore.

Click on the player's name and select View Public Profile. Then on their profile page, select User Lists, then Add to Ignore List. There maybe be an easier way, but I have not found it.
EDIT: But Klaw knew the easier way! -
Wow, he really said that? That just makes no sense to me. Being able to invite your own alts just seems like such an obvious QoL improvement that it never occurred to me there might be an actual objection to it; I guess I had just assumed they'd never really considered it a high priority, which is quite different from actually having an overt objection to the idea.

I'm pretty used to the game god-moding all over my characters at this point, and I mostly just roll with it. I even cut the devs some slack on it, because I realize that there is no possible way they can possibly account for every individual character concept the playerbase can come up with.
That said, the arc that goes above and beyond anything even I can tolerate in that regard is Dead Man's Deck (Mercedes Sheldon's redside arc). Maybe this one had such a strong effect on me because I first played it before I'd become assimilated. I remember talking to Darrin at a certain point in the arc that I won't give details on (hey, somebody might not have played it yet), and thinking, "Wait? I'm doing what now?" Now that I know what's coming, I will run the arc, but only with a character that would actually do what the arc forces him or her to do. On the upside, that first time through did lead to a good RP scene, as my character and her partner decided to rectify the situation after the fact (even though there's no way to reflect that in the actual game).
There are other arcs that I'd like to see revamped, but that's the one that leaps out at me. Another reason it probably stands out for me is that I just find redside so much more satisfying than blue in general, so I suppose my loves and hates are both stronger, redside. I have very little memory of most of the blueside content, as I've only played it once or twice; I find it all pretty dull. I tend to do tips with my heroes & vigs now that that's an option, or just run them in task forces. So perhaps I'd vote for an overall blueside revamp.
