Quote:Well that is essentially why we have D6 teams. If the new guys really enjoy the pvp they will do what they need to do to optimize their builds. Some will not. It is supposed to be casual pvp so that everyone can play and have fun.The D6 teams are going to be very interesting, as it looks like many of the signups aren't even going to have PvP-ready builds at all, let alone something that will work for team arena. I don't think that will be too much of an issue (PLing new characters doesn't take more than a few days) but the inf to get a character ready may be prohibitive for some of these players.
I imagine that the leaders will tell their D6 teams to farm those with bad builds and the people that get farmed will say "for how come I die so much?" and then they will get help with their builds by the Vets. -
Quote:How many Div6 captains do we have so far? are these drafted rosters going to have like 20 people each (Not sure how many have signed up so far)
Yeah it is looking that way. Getting the updater was a pain in the butt but the huge increase in signups the past 2 days shows it was definitely worth it. I am estatic at the interest personally. While 20 people might sound like a lot keep in mind probably only half will be able to show up for each practice/match I would imagine. -
Quote:We should have put a cutoff date/time for the d8 teams to be posted in advance so we could weed through the signups. Someone will have a list together (I assume Peril cuz not my yob).Unless I missed something, the draft is at 9PM Eastern. Emp and I were talking about a spreadsheet of sorts on our GP site. I haven't heard of the PvPEC (or anyone else) distributing one, so I assumed that was up to each team to figure out.
Draft time is February 13th, 2010. 6PM PST/9PM EST and will be on the PVPEC vent. We will only be allowing the team leaders in the channel for draft picks. Please have your picks worked out in advance and take in to consideration other leaders might beat you to who you want so have extra jic.
Also remember guys if your D8 people have not signed up, they cannot participate. Check your list and sign them up yourselves if you have to. -

Of course you would, I imagine that would be obvious being he is on your team. That doesn't change the fact that he isn't sooo good that he should belittle other players.
-
Quote:Of course I was exagerating about Vert. I realize he is decent. However he is not sooooo good that he should really be talking trash about others. Humility is a beautiful thing that some people could use a huge dose of.You're exaggerating a bit. While everyone may say that Vert gets farmed, for the sheer purpose of fitting in, he really doesn't. Also, he locks targets faster than 98% of the playerbase that PL'd and fully PvP IO'd out their Psy/EM blasters. He's also a decent target caller and has probably played and filled more roles successfully on a team than you have.
I'm not saying that he's incapable of dying, but lauding a player for dying on an offensive toon (a prime target to be called) in a system with delayed damage is pretty funny. I've seen just about every blaster get "farmed". Evasion, fast locking and decent communication are hard to come by.
On another note, you mentioned that we should try to get private PvP practice matches going as opposed to "stacking" teams in Kickballs? We ask for 8v8s practically every night on Freedom, to no avail.
We've practiced twice against Bitter's team? Granted, our Friday practice yielded plenty of matches. We've practiced against Dex's team on numerous occasions, and once against Divine's team. I'm sure the fierce beating that Divine's team took has discouraged them from any further practice sessions with us.
Point is, don't ask us to do something that we're already trying to do nightly. And don't blame us if people don't want to practice with us.
Kickball can be just as competitive as any other form of PvP in this game. Friday night PuGs on Test back in the day were exactly the same format. Normally there was always a stacked team that ended up dropping bombs. The majority of the players involved in this kickballs were aware of that. It's part of the reason why I dislike those type of matches to begin with.
Your form of "balancing" the teams out for matches on live is pretty laughable too, considering it involves taking a ton of people that you know I team with, putting them on your team, and ensuring that a TA is on your team so I spend 10 minutes glue arrow'd with blasters that couldn't find a target, much less navigate their weiner out of a diaper.
Just because you can't get League 8v8's going does not mean that its ok to manipulate the kickballs to team up with your own League team or personal buddies. If you let the kickballs be fairly divided up (and by you I don't actually mean specifically you) with equal vets and noobs or equal good players and terribad players the end result is generally going to be decent matches. If done fairly the matches should generally be within a few points of each other. Scores that are 20-4 are not only not fair but also not fun. This is kickball not the League we are talking about.
Again whether we divide the teams up fairly or let Captains pick the end result always happens when certain people are there. Teams get stacked. People purposely join when its the Captains turn to pick they want to be on. People quit out if they are picked for the team they dont want to be on etc. People send tells of what team they want to be on and or not be on. People refuse to play with certain people. Not only does that make kickballs a pain in the *** but to be quite honest it makes League teams not even want to deal with those specific people either which could be a contribution to why its so hard to get matches going.
My suggestion is if you are so good that you don't want to get cooties from the crappy players that you don't show up for kickballs, save yourself the heartache and everyone else too.
(again you is not specifically you, just a broad term)
**BTW me and Bitter's team will be happy to fight you guys. We just needed some time to get some more players and toons leveled and accoladed to field a team, we started way later than the other teams at organizing. -
Quote:Yep I have been fat kidded. Oddly though I realize I have a lot to learn and pretty much suck. I also realize I am called a target a lot for that. Life will be much more enlightning when you come to the same realization. Just like they talk trash about how crappy I am, they do the same about you. Just like they call me as target as much as they can, they do the same for you. The sad thing about it is that I know it and you are oblivious to reality. I haven't pvp'd in almost 2 years and only pvp'd for about a year before that, what is your excuse oooo veteran one?It doesn't matter if you're a cool kid, Kat and Elf Stalker still get fat kidded.
I would much rather be a "noob" being farmed than a supposed to be Veteran player being farmed. -
Quote:Actually no you were not on my mind when I said that. Though you can be a dick at times you are not as verbal as some that consistantly have crap to say about new peoples builds or that refer to every single person that is unknown as a shiitty's or "they don't count", or "they are no one".
Kat makes a lot of us out to be jerks, I'm positive I'm one of those people. I'm okay with that.
I realize its a video game and people are free to act how they want. However the same people that spew garbage constantly are the same people that ***** all the time that there is no one to pvp with.
This post is a prime example of what shouldn't be happening. Its not that the OP didn't get picked multiple times in a row that is so bad. It is that he, like many others gets to hear the "we don't know him" crap.
The whole purpose behind the League is to promote pvp and get new people to pvp. The nightly kickballs have been turned in to "lets stack our team with our League team people because we can't seem to get any regular 8v8 team matches going" instead of kickballs. How about instead of doing that...... the League teams should be practicing against each other in private matches and kickball should be a fair and equal opportunity for everyone to participate.
Any attempt to break up the people that want to team together so they can be on the "good" team results in people quitting out of matches, not doing anything but standing in a corner during the whole match or quitting out before the matches can even be organized. That is immature and retarded. Winning should not be so important that it doesn't matter that the only reason you really won was because you stacked the odds against the other team to make sure you won.
TLDR version-- lets all stop being inconsiderate and selfish and let kickballs get back to being an opportunity for fair and casual pvp. -
Psoma hit it on the nail. Sadly there is a kool kids club in pvp just like in all aspects of life. Kind of like starting a new job where you don't know anyone. Once people see you are outgoing and a team player they will warm up to you.
There are some ******** that refer to people as "shittys" or "noobs" or "they suck" but that is not the majority. I recently just got back in to pvp and moved to Freedom. I think I had it a little easier because a lot of people knew me from test leagues. Still though its hard to be new and stand a chance at being picked over people that are already known to be good or decent. There really are a lot of great people willing to help with tips, builds, attack chain advice, getting accolades etc. Make yourself vocal in arena chat and don't be afraid to send people private tells to ask for help. I have even found that those that come across as real ******** are usually willing to help and give constructive advice.
When the kickball is full and you get fat kidded I would suggest one of 2 things. Either watch the match for strategies and listen in on vent for techniques or get with the others that didn't make it in that match and start up a second match.
Being on vent is a good thing though, you stand a much better chance of being picked if you are on vent. -
I don't have time to do a build for you but this is a cheap but decent build I just did for my grav/cold. Atleast looking at it will give you an idea on how to do your powers. For example look at crush, my immobilize. 3 devestations and 3 trap of the hunters. The reason is that the set bonuses for each is what gives you HP. So you would want to slot your immobilize like that. That is what you are looking for in a pvp build. First priority is HP. Second priority is KB protection. Third would be recharge. Then if you have any room to play in your build you want to get some +endurance recovery because trollers are end hungry...especially colds. Then after that you could work on +damage etc.
By no means is this the best build in the world but it is fairly cheap and works. It has 1502 HP which is enough to get by. 34 points of KB protection and +51 pts of recharge. All just enough to get by while keeping it cheap and playable. Personally eventhough I usually have the money to do really expensive builds I don't see the point when moderately priced builds typically are just as good.

Quote:This.that build is expensive...but terrible..I mean seriously do u just nit want to kill anything? I'll post a mids 2mrrw when I get back to my computer
Ok first of all you need to get as close to max HP as you can with a pvp build. You also need way more KB protection than that. I would recommend an absolute bare minimum of +31 pts. Even that low still leaves several powers that can kb you. It is enough to suffice for the most part though. As long as you keep moving /ngy blasters hopefully won't be knocking you back and force bolt bubblers are not something you see swarming the zones typically.
PVP recipes are expensive and ridiculously over rated. You can use LOTG's, karma's, numina's, Devestations etc to have a much better and cheaper build. On almost any toon you can get good HP, KB protection and recharge for around 2 to 2.5 billion, depending on how smart you shop. -
