  1. Yeh, Kodiak, He's like Bat's in the sense that he won't kill ya, but beating you to a pulp is not off limits.
  2. Lj's really the source for this seeing as he was a Proffessor of it.

Here's my experience and advice.(Btw when I mention points, there's no real point system they use, its more like how the assessor gauges your art based on his taste and the school's entrance criteria.)

    1. No Anime, No Comic book Art. None. Not at all. Major(and not so Major) Art Institutions don't give one bit about how awesome you can do chibis of Wolverine. You will get points knocked off bud, trust me.

    2. Anatomical(sp?) Figure Studies a must. This should be the bulk of your portfolio. Draw your hands, your friends hands, your Friends and most of all you. Nudes, and Clothed studies will bump your points up. You should draw yourself at least twice a day while gearing up for your portfolio. Trust me, this helps alot.

    3. Pieces that show use of Space. If you currently draw panel comics. Work alot on those. If not, do alot of Landscapes, Urban and Rural. Pick Your Scenes carefully though. What they are lookin for is your sense of "negative space" ie: how you place items in/on your canvas. At least 2 or 3 of these.

    4. Working Knowledge of Perspective. This can also go with "Space" but these pieces should emphasize 3D shapes, Horizon lines, vanishing points and your ability to both adhere to and distort them.

    That's me 2 bits,
    -Cj
  3. Hahahaha!!!

No Lj, that little ball's just what I use to determine lighting source for when I get around to inkin it.

The concept for the sword is that it's actually kinda small, more like a dirk in size but it's so frickin powerful it needs that huge cairn stone to sheath it.
  4. WIP for Jugg's Nation jam.

"As the last descendant of Nuada the first King of Ireland and with the sword "Claíomh Solais"(Sword of Light), a blade so powerful, once loosed from it's scabbard it will cleave it's opponent in twain, Jack Flynn protects the emerald shores and it's people from all that would threaten it."

    or summat like that.

    -Cj
  5. Jeez. Not askin for much as ya.

The only way to become good with photoshop or any digital program is to know your fundementals first.

So, drawing with a pencil, with charcoal, etc, drawing objects you can see in front of you, is essential to build the skills you need to tackle the drawings you're trying to do.

This has been my thinking since before I started with anything, and I'd still much rather do art by hand than mouse...

    My sentiments exactly bud.

    what I'm confused about...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Okay Turbo.

Go to the mirror and attempt the same hand/body motions.

Hunch and lean a bit forward, as the character is.

Put your left hand( out, palm outward with all your fingers spread as much as possible at roughly at a 25 degree angle to your shoulders.

Now, put your right hand in front of your belly(as if your holding a shield), Now wind and rotate backwards as if your going to punch someone Indy Jones style.

Next, The character seems to be doing a "sweeping" motion the way her hips and legs are pivoted, so Pivot left to right.

When your in roughly the same pose stop and look at your left palm, your fingers.

I will agree with you the thumb is a tad small, but your fingers being flexed out to their fullest extent will not cause them to curve like in your pic.

    Hopefully that helps.

    -Cj...

    Now in Pirate-eez,

    Yar, Turbo me buoy. har,

Fetch yerseff toos the looking glass, yar and begins to drape yourself in the fashion of the wee girl's sketchin, ah-har.

Avast, and lean in for a looksy, ah-har.

Now as to be kindly lifting your fidgetting arm upward likes, and stretch them gnarled digits of your'n to the fullest, ah-har.

Now takes your sabre arm and balls it into the meanest fist this side of the bloody Atlantic and heave it backwards as if'n your'n to make a spiggot of me head.

Now sways like you've lost your sea legs.

    Aw-har.

Aye, We be in accord with the not so prominence of the lass's folding finger, yet now I'm sure your to be seeing the error of your ways with your digits so pointed to the heavens.

May'n that be helpful to ye,

    -Cap'm Cj of the NeverbeenNearyerbullocks.

    tips please

I agree with what everyone above says. Drawing from refference and your own limbs helps alot. Action figures totally rock too, I use my RAH220(Real Action Hero) figures by Medicom. I've got a Kamen Rider w/Mask and w/out, a Hakkaider and other assorted Sentai/Kaiju figures. They are Super expensive(ranging from $50-$100+) but they're super posable and I love the craziness that just is Sentai/Kaiju.

But if your still lookin for some basic outlines as to how to accomplish your goals, look no further than McDuffies. Possible NFSW tho, cause it is basic a male/female anatomy tutorial.

Whoa... Nice on the reply from Tim Sale...

...Didja happen to email him in Pirate Speak?
  17. Changes in Crimson!

    Image Here

Changed the position of her stance. She looked too offbalance with the right(her right!) leg in the original image. This also I think is a more aggressive stance which seems to fit the character a little more.

Moved her tail from betwixt(I love that word) her legs, and used it to balance the image.

Finger positions were fine the way they were, just my own personal taste when I changed those.

    Just me 2 bits,
