Ok...
Don't take this the wrong way but... Your 12.
Alot of us boarders have jobs, families, and responsiblities to look after before we even begin to think about what we'll do in our very sparse free time, let alone worry about what's happening on the "COH Art Boards."
That said.
You don't suck. Just know that this is a good place to start training not just your artistic muscles, but a good place to start showing your manners and humility as well.
If you want to really become a better artist, keep at it. Regardless of the silence and lack of praise. Make us notice you by showing that you've grown as an ARTIST, not because your feeling lonely or depressed.
If it seems I'm a bit tough on you, it's cause I am.
Coming into a community regardless if it's in real life or on the web and whining and clamoring for attention makes me want to ignore you and not even acknowledge you.
Me 2 bits,

This is my hands down favourite. My favourite little lady, done in my favorite medium. Linoleum block cut.

Hahahaha!!! I loves it!!
Don't worry Aaron, I too was very ignorant of the comic goodness that is/was King Kirby... and well pretty much the whole "Golden" age of comics until my last year of highschool where my buddy at work plopped "Marvels" and "Kingdom Come"(Art by Alex Ross, Written by Paul Dini) into my lap when I was complainin about the lack of customers. Needless to say I did alot of catching up. Reread them and revelled in fanboy glee for catching the old references and costumes.
Very Nice analogy there Zobragas with the music. I'll have to use that one next time I try to combat "Comic" ignorance.
Ooogh. There was mention of Liefield tho... *shudders* I know there's alot of Liefield love on these boards so I'll stop right here.
Thanks ever so much LJ!!!!!

OMG!!! THANK YOU!!!
Today's been rough, its good to know at least the Internet loves me.
I love his "incoming" Fists!! and Kirby "Power" aura balls!! Schweeet! -
Whew! kk! That's the problem with the intersnets. Sarcasm and Intonation are lost.
Ah, and your not lucky with the blotting. You just haven't used them long enough. With a bit of practice you can somewhat control the blotting so it's a good thing in my mind. That's why I cringe when I'm given "Good" pens that won't run for my b-day and what-not.
okies. Tiered... and tied... er tired too.
Sleepies.

I personally use Pigma Pens from Sakura. Their Micron line is awesome, the .005's nibs are pretty good compared to most same sized pens I've tried. I press pretty hard and am known to snap/bend the nibs off sharpies. I'd stay away from the Brush line seeing as traditional brush/inkwells are cheaper and produce a better effect. I'm not too hyped about their Graphic stuff so far. The size 3 is great, 2 useless and 1 isn't really needed seeing as adding two more swipes with your .05-7 will do the same trick.
And C'mon, the whole idea of this post was to get "motivated" about art, not name call.
-CJ -
HA! See I did it again.
No, no, I understand completely. I was that close minded anime fanboy that turned a 180 as soon as I "got" the basics down and came to that realization. Get this, I even used to think Jack "The King" Kirby was crap... I know. I still feel ashamed about it.
Oh, yeh I know whatcha mean about having to get psyched for a piece. If I feel forced at all to compromise it kills the whole piece to me.
I dig your personal Style alot!! C'mon, Lanky and laid back characters? It's a given!! Where Mignola and Miller are my Inking influences, Most of my Pencils are highly influenced by Ashley Wood and Paul Pope.
As to Crits... Personally I like to be cut to ribbons. What gets to me are the "Wow! better than me it's great!" stuff when I'm specifically asking for "Critiques". Not that I don't appreciate the comments, the Ego's always in need of repairs, but my experience has been very lean on "real" critiques, so I've always had to rely on my own self critiques(which aren't fun, ie: I just realized for TA's piece the lightning looks like crap, so I'm gonna dig through my Kirby/Toth Archives to see if I can make it more dynamic). That and the fact that through my life so far, I've been the only "artistic" one in myriad circle of friends so I've never been able to bounce Artistic ideas around or even "Talk Shop".
That's why I love the Internet. It's chock full of people better than me. Graver's helped immensely and I've only done half a dozen or so pieces.
Ah, now I'm rambling. My apologies too LJ.
-CJ -
Aww, don't worry about it LJ. It's been derailed from Anime-V-Traditional to Inks-V-No inks.
Thus is my superpower. "FORUM SUBJECT SWIPE!!" -

Lol <,< That's the kind of worry I've had for some years when it comes to drawing people >,< I have long hair, my clothes aren't very good <'x'> I'm poor hehe /shrug; and I wear mostly black <,<

HA! That's your excuse "FOR" the long hair, the black & motley clothing, the lack of funds! YOUR AN ARTIST!!
Oh, and don't worry about folks treating "You" weird for your looks. This is me.
As fer the use of Pen thing... I understand. I won't push it. But your highschool misadventures sound very close to my own. Just lemme see when ya do come'round... TO THE DARKSIDE!!... See Vader uses only pens. Why do you think his helmet's so glossy? -
No, The 'rents went with "Richard". Although I'm neither Kingly or Lionhearted.
Atomic's got it right about Pens though. Where it may force you to make more mistakes(that can't be erased) it makes them apparent.
My only issue is when drawing outdoors... If you draw at a park/play area, Greet the Parents and do your best not to come off as an Oily-Greasy-Whack-Job-Pedderfile. I've gotten alot of weird looks and angry glares at parks where I didn't communicate that I'm "normal" and just an art student. Usually after that they're pretty cool and want to see what your up to(Rightly so cause it is their kids your drawing) and it may lead to some quick cash for somethin you'd be doodlin anyway.

Pens I hate btw <. .> Pens are evil. I only use em to ink >.<; But thanks to inking - I've had less problem drawing in a gestural manner lately, because I never have to erase anything - I just draw with a 2H pencil, then go over it in ink - when scanned, you can't see the pencil marks <,<m

What'd Pens ever do to you Squirrel!
I started out in Ballpoint pen. My buddy in highschool had a bagful of assorted Bic' sticks. The best part is when the "ball" in the nib gets all clunked up so you get line-BLOT-line-line-BLOT.
Just about all my "Elfwood" stuff from the Vintage post was done with black Bic Sticks. -

I LOOOOVE That Classic Doc Doom Pose!!

I second pretty much most of what the above say... except for one.
I'm always saying "I suck." I'm always breaking my pieces down, and analyzing what could've been improved upon.
It's what keeps me going as an artist. It's what fuels my fire so to speak.
Knowing and acknowledging my own skill level, Actively seeking out better artists and comparing myself to them. Adapting styles, tools and mental processes to compete with them.
Ya gotta go into it acknowledging it. "So yeh, I suck... but it's not going to get me down."
Never say Die and DIY.

I made a wallpaper featuring my 5 heroes and their 5 villian (Praetorian) counterparts, and I wanted to show you all, but it's over 6 megs, and Photobucket crunches it down to itty bitty size. Any suggestions?
[/ QUOTE ]
Crunch it down yourself first. There's no earthly reason that a .jpg should be 6 megs. Go back into your image editing program and either make it smaller or recompress it. What are the pixel dimensions and file format?
[/ QUOTE ]
Tis a Bitmap, and it's 1651x1327.
Is that...bad?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not Bad, per se... but HUGE!
You'll lose some clarity when you switch it to Jpg(not much) and it'll cut the size down immensely.

Love the pose LadyJ! It feels really grounded and he really looks like he's forcing those flames out of sheer will.
