Hoping the experts can help out with a quick question. Im not able to play atm and just doing the MIDs thing...playing around with a Street Justice toon.
I have a pretty tight build and wanted to know what powers people think can be left out of this primary.
Thanks ahead of time. -
Quote:Thanks for that man but I dont know if I agree with your original statement about both parties being in the wrong. They initially tried to revamp PVP for two major reasons: because a lot of players just didn't like it and the nerfs made to players in PVE for PVP reasons (since the systems were originally one in the same), and because "City of Hero" (the Korean port of the game) was floundering, and the investors felt that a more active PVP community might save it. Castle, the lead powers developer before Synapse, heard the complaints of what people didn't like about what is now usually called "i12 PVP" and came up with some ideas on how to counteract those problems, as well as a way to divorce the PVE and PVP systems so players would no longer have to worry about being nerfed for balance in one system while participating in the other. (See Energy Melee: once the king of single target damage, now one of the most underperforming attack sets in the game in all areas but burst damage... mostly because it was considered overpowered in PVP.)
After Castle's initial round of changes--which were intended, as I said, to be the first steps in a long-standing project--the members of the PVP community who had been invited to the beta hated it and leaked all the changes outside of the closed beta, all but ruining the developers' ability to get decent data and feedback on the changes. There were harsh words on both sides of the ensuing arguments--one of the former community reps actually lost his job over a comment he made retorting to the already enraged PVPers--and it was decided to put PVP in maintenance mode until things had cooled off enough to try again.
Unfortunately, Castle took another job offer, so PVP hasn't changed a whole lot since. The existing development team is understandably wary of broaching the subject again, though Posi has said on record a few times that they have some ideas they'd like to try when they've got room in the development schedule, but it is unlikely that they'll be anywhere near as sweeping as those changes made in i13.
(In my humble opinion, PVP isn't really any worse off after Issue 13 than before it. Some things that were problems before were fixed, some new problems arose as a result, but mostly, the changes that Castle made were cranked all the way to 11 when they should have been set more in the 2-5 range.)
The items I have control over as a player is to play/not play and pay/not pay.
I would think that developers have to be held responsible for whether game changes are made or not made.
At the end of the day, I dont want to invite "that" PvP discussion that always happens when this topic surfaces. It was 04 years ago, I still PvP when I can and its not great, but it is what it is. -
Good thoughts from everyone and C'est la vie.
Im overseas and its not easy to get my hands on comics at the moment.
I just hope that this new 52 deal has some actual creativity and solid storylines behind it at the end of the day versus "hey look, this guy is gay now and these guys dont exist anymore...those idiots will love this stuff!"
Take care guys. -
Quote:Yeah, thats kind of my view of the whole deal too.Believe me this will not make any gay people decide to start reading DC...and most certainly Gay comic fans would know by now if they like Dc or not. The only money the might make is from the first issue and that's it.
I know of a lot of gay or bi comic book readers as well as gamers and nerds...heck I know a lot of Bear who read comics and that's a sub group lol...no pun intended.
O_D - "If it gets DC free air time free print time talking about there product and if it gets attention away from a rivals product - the marriage of Northstar. I smell a publicity stunt."
I dont really see many people talking about a product versus discussing the value of sexual preference in comics as a whole.
Other than this one liner...are there people actually discussing Northstar and that hes getting married? I follow comics intermittently and this is the first time Ive commented on it.
Im assuming it comes down to why you read comics and what factors tie into that. I used to read Spawn because it was a great comic to me...not b/c the guy was black and a former Marine and b/c I can associate with those things. Im a big fan of boobies in real life, but just b/c Power Girl has been voted by some as being in the top 100 sexiest females, it doesnt influence me to buy that material.
Maybe some people buy comics for some of the reasons above and with that, I can see why Scott being gay is such a big deal.
I just read em for the solid stories and interesting concepts.
Race/sex/gender...all prety boring stuff in real life, let alone as a factor in comic books. -
WR - "Thank you for bringing that subject of i13 back up."
Sorry man, was just using it as an example and i didnt know most ppl were still sore about it.
I dont like i13, but I still PvP when I can...it was 10 issues ago
CGM - "Technically it was supposed to be the start of an on-going project to fix PVP... but immaturity and impatience caused those bridges to be burned from both ends."
Youll have to explain that one to me good sir. -
Im a fan of the devs b/c this is not easy stuff theyre doing, but you cant really give GP too hard of a time. Sometimes it takes years to fix problems.
i13 was supposed to fix PvP...just one example and you see how that played out. -
Quote:I agree and understand what youre saying b/c we are all definitely talking about it. In terms of products though, publicity stunts are usually marketing tools to generate sales.Publicity doesn't necessarily mean "spend money on this," it just means "talk about this." And from that view, they've succeeded.
Unless there is something showing how wildly popular and profitable comics with gay characters are these days, I still dont understand how making a character gay is considered a publicity stunt. -
Quote:Good point and maybe Im just the odd man out here.
I like Wolverine and if he was suddenly 'gayed', Id still buy the title.
Im not a fan of Superman and if he was suddenly gayed...I still wouldnt buy the title.
I suppose there are a lot of people out there that have excess money to spend on comics and will buy this just because of the new sexual preference angle. In that case, I guess this is considered a publicity stunt. -
I can see how the new continuity is a publicity stunt to generate interest and then Alan Scott being gay now as just a by-product of that. I dont get though how him being gay would be anymore interesting than him being straight.
If you like the character and it shows him at home with his gf in a couple of panels...ok.
If you like the character and it shows him at home with his bf in a couple of panels...ok.
I dont really get what everyone is saying about his sexual preference being a stunt...is it going to have an impact on sales? -
Your next Brute should only use Jump Kick.
-
Yeah, I was agreeing with you.
Just pointing out that you may as well apply the same logic to not playing any other AT vs Veats as oppsed to saying why youre just not running Khelds. -
Quote:I like the concept of new damage types, could be a winner.Yes Delete Powersets - mace, battle axe ...lol...seriously.
There are plenty of new dmg types to introduce with powersets, say Magical Damange...There is a whole zone of witches ya know. Create a spell caster powerset, expand the role of toxic damage and create a poison damage power set to match poison control...
Ice blast is one that can use reworking, change the special to stacking - recharge and even out the dmg with other blast sets, same goes for elec blast...as it stands right now thunderous blast does more dmg to the caster than the target...and it is a tier 9 primary!
They could introduce cosmic powered heroes and villians, and create a cosmic dmg...just saying we have had the same dmg types forever..
I dont get why you would want to have less variety of powers in a game though.
Wouldn't it just be easier for you not to use them, especially since you dont PvE? -

Its kind of a rare thing these days for a movie to run with an original concept really.
-
Quote:I dont take sides in these things, but out of all the current issues with Khelds argued/discussed in the Khelds specific forums...Im not sure the last time I heard anyone talk about our target enemy group being a problem. Im not trying to invalidate your opinion and I know 'YMMV' is the key...but I havent thought twice about Voids/Nictus since they were changed however many years ago it was. Ive seen players discuss effective tactics to overcoming those guys.Because they still are an issue. They may not be for you, but you're not exactly representative of everybody.
Nor am I. However, many players have expressed concern for how the Kheldians play, and the things I mentioned in my post are things that continue to plague my Kheldians.
Your experience otherwise does not necessarily invalidate my concerns.
As far as the not being invited to a team while Khelding, is it possible thats a small server specific deal? I have PBs on Virtue and Freedom Ive play regularly and havent been denied action yet...other than "looking for debuffs!"
It seems a shame you arent playing a toon you like based on issues that are relatively easy to overcome. -
Yeah, I can never judge what ethinicty people are by their last names these days. If it sounds Asian or Hispanic (hope Im using those tems correctly), then if I have to categorize someone...I just say Asian or Hispanic.
I have a black neighbor, last name OReilly...whenever I ask if hes from Ireland, he always says to me, "Brooklyn, stand up"...so Im assuming not. -
-
Quote:I think b/c Im not much of a melee toon player...Ive always felt my PBlapper was pretty decent even solo since I only have 1 or 2 Scrappers semi-built to compare it to.Almost everything here applies to me. My WS is 50 and fun to play. My PB is 42 and not fun to play... feels like a weak/inadequate blapper/scrapper. Though I am quite certain that I could rebuild my PB with better IOs and in the end I might have a character who is not entirely annoying to play. Maybe.
Add in a team and Ive always felt like the strongest/most survivable dude ever when Cosmic Balance kicks in. -
-
Quote:Does not using Nova form cripple your PB or WS? I've been playing Khelds since around i11 and the only time I use Nova is in PvP...I never felt crippled playing all human form in PvE due to the versatility and being able to build these toons multiple ways.you are not crippling yourself not using domination or hide. You lose out on major effects, but you are not crippled.
Everyones experience is different obviously, whats yours? -
Quote:Yeah, but he got the buttcheeks right...OK, that one actually makes me feel physically ill. Ill. Ill I tell you!
Not even an acute case of spina bifida could explain that abnormality in her back. And the friggin' pouches are there again!
it is pretty ridiculous though lol. -
I guess Im the only one looking forward to a real life Walking Dead series (great graphic novel), even though I wouldnt have thought of Miami as ground zero of the outbreak.
Prepare yourselves for the arrival of our undead overlords...
