Quote:Seems that if you are an "intellectual geek", people find it strange if you are interested in martial arts or weaponry from a purely cerebral perspective. Kind of like Batman being a genius but when it comes time to fight, he should run and rely on Robin to provide the muscle.Preferring one style of Holmes over another is fine, but what got me were all the complaints about Holmes knowing how to fight and carrying a gun. Some people acted as though it was sacrilege, despite the fact that Holmes in the novels is an amateur boxer and carried a revolver with him on a regular basis.

Quote:Welcome back to the game. In case you don't hear back from any old pals, I'd say take a look at the stickies on the Defiant page and advertise that you are looking for x, y, z.Hello Defiant,
After years of playing other MMO's it looks like I've landed on the Defiant server once again.
Couldn't use my old account sadly, telling me it's been suspended...For what I sure as heck don't know since I haven't used it in years, but oh well.
Anyways, rolled up a few toons already, trying out the new power sets and Praetorians, having fun so far. Duoing with my wife but the more the merrier so wondering which SG's are still around ? The last SG I remember being part of was Galactia Senshi, anything before that is just a hazy memory.
One thing I'm wondering though is how the heck did we manage to play with absolutely no cash to buy enhancements when we first started ? I sure do miss the dozens of millions I had on my main back then, starting from scratch is a pain
If any of my old teaming partners are still around here by chance, my toons that I can remember were Aerys Ice/Rad Corr, Jacurutu Earth/Kin Controller, an archery/elec blaster, SS/Stone brute (Mountain that rides was his name iirc) and a million of alts that I can't remember.
For startup cash you can find some good posts in the Player Guides and The Market/Invention sections:

Quote:ThisFinding a good arc is far too difficult. I don't want to have to sift through a million options, I want to get on and play a couple of nice missions. How many thousand farms are out there that I need to go through to find one decent arc?
Also, there are far too many dead arcs cluttering the search. I think a wipe is in order... give a global message of the day so authors can save their arcs, and unpublish everything. Let it be restocked.
Maybe an option in the GUI that lets you search your global friends list for new publications? -
I think it must depend on the TF. A 25min speed ITF, consists of Tankers/Brutes speeding through the first couple of cave mishs (to rescue chicks/destroy crystals) while everyone else tries to keep up, usually dying at the hands of bloodthirsty Romans/Cyclops and end up heading to the hospital once the mish is complete. Not much communication or teamwork needed for the simpler TFs I guess.

Quote:lol, good link. Redshirts always get such a raw deal. I bet Munn is talented enough to die a horrible Redshirt death.
If OM could get some voice work on The Venture Bothers or a role as a zombie survivor (or hot zombie) on The Walking Dead...I would totally buy into 'the power of the Munn'. -

Quote:You never said guys 30+ weren't interested in AOTS, you just said that its a show that guys in their teens and 20s were interested in.I never said guys in their 30s, 40s or older don't care about such things. 18-24 is just the demographic AOTS is aimed at.
I looked it up and could only find this, "...is due in part to the fact that G4's target demographic (males 12-34)...". You were pretty close. -
So no suggestions on an Epic/Ancillary Pool for a scrapperish Stalker?
-
Quote:Ok man, I'm going to stop being so obssessed with your off the wall opinions about how untalented, unfunny and unhot Olivia Munn is compared to everyone else in the general TV pool and how shes going nowhere since leaving AOTS. I will apologize for making a comparison between you and Chapman since you haven't been able to grasp the concept that I presented 3x stating I was not suggesting that you are a muderer...just crazy for making all of these wacky OM statements.v.v Obsessive does not mean "I disagree with you."
As far as the rest of your post, that does not support your "you are obsessed" ********. It supports the opinion that I may be wrong that this is a bad career move for her.
To show that I'm obsessed you would have to show that I've somehow thought about her or brought her up a lot and off topic continuously.
So you are factually wrong about me being obsessed. Saying someone is crazy when they are not is wrong and when they are is stupid, but it's in common parlance so I'll let that pass. And comparing someone to a murderer with no other characteristic that one would ascribe to him is just plain asinine.
I fancied our debate, you gave me a solid tug...please carry on old chap. -
Quote:I would love to know what you consider excessive or compulsive, because, again, apparently conversing about something that is the subject of the discussion seems to be what qualifies. And as such everyone who has made a comment on this thread is obsessed by your standard.
Maybe you think excessive means "someone who disagrees with me and I need to call them a name"
Well, there are at least 5 items that I quoted you saying which all seem to be false after I took 10mins to look up Munn. I am not sure how else to describe all the negative comments on your part other than being slightly obssessive. Three pages later, I still feel that your perspective of OM and her "lack of success" seems strange. You don't have to believe me, look at the posts that everyone else have submitted that disagree with you. I don't think there is one person here that has agreed with you, which in of itself doesn't mean you are wrong...but dogs don't chase parked cars (thanks for presenting the opportunity for me to use one of my fave sayings).
If you now want to quibble over my use of the word obssessive after I debunked your statements, ok...I'll give up on that. Would 'strong dislike' be a better description of your feelings in this post? -
Quote:TLDR WARNINGI didn't say she was unattractive, nor did I say she wasn't funny, nor did I ever say anything about her playboy appearance or that I wanted her off AOTS...
I said not hot enough or funny enough in general compared to most other people out there to succeed. The reason she is funny on AOTS as was mentioned in other threads is her reaction to Kevin and the awkwardness she is put in. Same with her "hotness" appeal, she is considered "hot" mainly because AOTS makes her dress up in geek fantasy stuff. Without these things she loses pretty much all the appeal that she has and on top of that she is being put on air with immensely funny people which makes her stand out as not funny/talented. The same will likely be said of her show, so she'll end up looking worse than she actually is...same way as on AOTS she looks way better than she actually is.
Also, I am discussing her and the position of her losing her status in a conversation about that so how is that obsessed? Do you know what that word means? Also not to mention that entire conversation is more or less an addition onto what I wanted to say to add more content and was never meant to be the main focus...which was AOTS after several months stopped pretending she was coming back.
obssessed - having or showing excessive or compulsive concern with something
I'd say your Munn comments are a lil obssessive as is my need to respond to you.
"So Olivia Munn, officially fell off the edge of the world finally apparently..."
- An appearance in Iron Man2 and grabbing the the cover and a spread in Playboy as well as Rolling Stone to name a few recent items may say differently, but we probably just have different definitions of falling off the edge of the world.
"an unfunny person on one of the funniest comedy shows... yeah... she's fell off the edge of the world...or teetering"
- I must have been watching different episodes of AOTS b/c the ones I've seen have OM being pretty funny outside of the Kevin Pereira influence (I don't think you'll find a hotter Wonder Woman or Baroness in modern times). I'm also sure that The Daily Show randomly/regularly signs up "unfunny" people in order to lower the ratings because they're at the top already and have nothing to lose.
"I bet you she'll not be on the top 100 hottest women of the world this year"
- I'll take that bet and raise you (see the pix of the above stated Playboy/Rolling Stones spread).
"She's not talented enough or hot enough to get very far"
- From a few months ago, "Olivia Munn: "I'm easy to hate. I get it". I think she actually mentioned your CoH handle in in this magazine interview, Durakken.
"It's a rather stressful time to be Olivia Munn. In June, the 30-year-old landed one of the most coveted spots in late-night, as a female correspondent on "The Daily Show," an accomplishment that unleashed a surprising geyser of commentary and criticism about women and comedy..."
Obviously the epitome of untalentness...
I will not even dignify your comments about her not being hot enough to be on TV compared to other TV people in general.
"I am saying that she was lucky to get where she was, and more than likely her trying to go further will result in her being shown she's not talented which means she is going to end in a worse position"
- Yeah, even though she was a fashion model while living in Japan as an AF brat, attended the Univ of Okhlahoma majoring in journalism, interned as a reporter with Fox Sports covering college football/basketball and did meh TV and movies in the early 2000s before landing AOTS...I'd say you are absolutely right. She just got lucky and everything shes popping off with now is simply a fluke.
You sir, have an uncanny insight into reality that is not to be reckoned with. -
Quote:Tactless guy signing back in...Saying she's not that hot is far too common on the internet versus reality. I know a girl who is similar in build, but wouldn't be deemed as attractive as Munn and I'll be damned if I was disappointed if I could get her to go out with me.
This was kind of my whole point after reading all of the negative comments the OP made about Olivia Munn through the course of this thread. I don't get starstruck by anyone and have to say Munn isn't the be all to end all, but cmon. "She's not talented enough or hot enough to get very far", not hot enough compared to who exactly? I've known some hot women, I've known some funny women and I've known some talented women, but they were all separate entities and none were as hot/funny as OM. So it seemed I sensed a bit of haterism with a trace of obssessiveness by the OP.
Also...
"Attack of the Show is a daily show about stuff guys in their teens and 20s care about: movies, TV, comics, cool gadgets and, of course, hot girls. Munn was the female co-host for the last four years or so."
This is very true, once guys hits their 30th year...they are no longer interested in movies, TV, comics, cool gadgets and hot girls. -
Howdy folks,
Getting back to the game and looking at doing i19 and Alpha builds for my lv50 toons. My old build gets the Stalker mission done as well as scraps pretty well with +endurance, HP cap, a decent level of regeneration and Tough added in. Any thoughts on what Epic/Ancillary pool choices would help maximize on this concept would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
You'd be better off playing around with Mids, posting your builds and then asking for critique. It doesn't always work out, but people will usually respond better to that.

Quote:If you say there are a lot of ATs that are way stronger than PBs and that PBs are the worst AT in the game, I'll just have to take your word for it. Like I said before, good discussion.People read "it's the worst AT" and see it as a statement that it's not viable against the content. But that's not what it means, what it means is less that PBs are weak (though in a number of ways they look stronger than they really are) and more that the other ATs are by and large, very, very strong and get even stronger with IOs.
PBs are perfectly good SUVs, but the other ATs are drag cars, porsches, ferraris, and so on. -
Quote:I was talking about both and I agree they are different games, thats why I said, "I know PvP and PvE have their differences". If you're saying that an IOd Human PB can't compare to an IOd high defense Scrapper, I agree again. Seriously though, what isnt gimped when compared to those couple of builds? I mean you can compare other melee ATs to those builds and call them gimped as well.CrazyJerseyan, I can't tell if you're talking about PVP or PVE in some parts, but they are fundamentally different games. I am only talking about PVE. I think PBs compare fairly well to regen scrappers in PVE, actually, because regen scrappers generally aren't the ones who are stacking defense IOs onto defensive powersets to reach over 90% average mitigation to damage while retaining near-blaster levels of damage output
You can see that my post count is low and I can count the # of times I have posted in the Kheldians section on one hand so I'm not a die hard "I LOVE MY PB!!!" guy. With everything you have said though, I just can't get with the "its the worst AT in the game" concept. -
Quote:If you want to contain enemies or bubble your team, I have to agree with your last statement. This is not in the same vein as my last post, thus the separate post.
It's not a blaster and it's not a scrapper, this much is true and not the subject of the argument. The problem is that it is not enough of a blaster to fill in the not enough of a scrapper and not enough of a controller.
It was balanced too hard for its roles, especially considering scrappers get some controls, controllers get some damage, and blasters get some defense. They have things to fill in the gaps.
I think that's where I think Peacebringers are. They aren't a hybrid AT that can fill several roles. They're a bunch of gaps that have been filled in. Not good enough at anything.
I'm coming across a bit harsh, though. I have played a PB into high 40s before I deleted it, and I've played with PBs on my teams. There's nothing exactly wrong with them, I just feel that if you start comparing the numbers and the capabilities, you'd be happier with any other AT, even an earth/FF.
I use my current PB mostly in the role of a Blaster and with the slotting in its 2 ST Nova blasts alone, it seems to surpass a lot of Blasters in range and damage. I hit from about 160ft away and have at least 3x procs for damage, holding and -res. With a high recharge, the 2 blasts cycle through in 1-2secs, the procs activate often and the secondary effect is -defense on top of it all. It actually seems more powerful than my blasters with scrapper level HPs, built in phase and rez, Light Form and other tricks.
Im not discounting your post, but if I had not taken my PB to lv50 and went crazy with IOs, I probably would have felt the same as, "The problem is that it is not enough of a blaster to fill in". I'm working on a Human only now and can talk more about the, "not enough of a scrapper" comment later. -
Quote:Not all Scrappers are extrodinarily powerful, but yes, there are top tier powersets and also meh powerset combos like any AT. If you want to compare an IOd human PB to an IOd something/Regen Scrapper, I'll agree. But if that IOd PB can keep up or surpass a lot of Scrapper combos, I don't see how that can be called gimped melee. On the human form: you're focusing on "gimped" when the operative term is "gimped melee." Melee ATs are extraordinarily powerful in City right now, and an IO'd melee is going to both kill and survive circles around most other characters. The TF content a PB "can participate in," many IO'd melees can solo at +1x8 (in some edge cases, even higher), including the archvillain(s).
Quote:On mez protection, or more accurately, on breakfrees: Mez is the only place in the game people say "just pop a breakfree" about. Why don't blasters pop enrages to do damage, or tankers pop lucks to have defenses? Why don't brutes and scrappers use breakfrees for mez protection? Or VEATs or stalkers? It's because they aren't going to be functional if they did. Guess what? Neither are PBs.
Quote:I also don't think PBs realistically have all the flexibility you mentioned. Softcapping ranged defense is extremely build-intensive when you have no native +defense powers to stack with, and is broadly exclusive with the +recharge build required to make an attack chain that's not full of suck, and what's more, if you look at stats of the PB humanform ranged attacks vs the melee attacks, you'd probably realize that if you're going to go for +defense, you'd want to softcap your melee defense instead.
Quote:You're not a tank in dwarf form. You aren't even close to a tank in either survivability or aggro management, and your damage in dwarf form isn't great, an earth controller would laugh at it. Just like actual scrappers will laugh at the comparison of a PB to them in the performance arena.
Quote:I'm being a little harsh, but I'm pre-coffee, and well, this is the simple reality of the game. Look around you. Do the math if you want to - it's there in the math too - but really, all you have to do is look around you and see what everyone else is doing that your PB will not be able to even reasonably approach on a consistent basis and/or without the excessive use of inspirations. -
Quote:This isn't one of those "PBs are the best!!!" posts, but even though I respect your opinion, I have to disagree. As with anything, it all depends on your playstyle...but I think you are shortchanging PBs by calling them gimp. I IOd my Triform for high recharge, max HPs and solid damage output to try out PvP back in i11. Having said that, I run it through a lot of TF content pretty regularly and with 2x heals that are up every 20 secs, a permad Dull Pain clone that puts me over 2k HPs and blasts that I can throw in a handful of different procs to max the damage, it plays great. Mezzed? If I dont feel like going Dwarf, then I just pop a breakfree like any other squishy AT and keep it moving. A Human PB designed for melee could do just as well if not better if built correctly. If you're asking about relative numerical and high-end IO performance: Forget peacebringers. I'd just play the warshade, and IO them. In any game with a diversity in classes/ATs, some AT is going to be the worst one. In City of Heroes, that worst AT is peacebringers. The short reason why is because warshades are better at leveraging the forms because of mire and eclipse, and taking the forms away makes the PB a gimped - yes, if you're a melee who's got no mez protection, the basic damage of a tanker, the basic defenses of a scrapper, and the hitpoints of a defender, you're gimped by COH standards - melee. Your cosmic link buff can make up for some of that, but not all of it and never more than two at the same time.
It depends on what I feel like playing that day and even though I prefer my IOd WS better for most PvE content, I have to say that an IOd PB is a farcry from the worst AT in CoH. Yeah it is a jack of all trades, but that gives a player the flexibility to build a Human PB anyway he/she wants by maximizing on whatever strengths that are desirable: a Blaster with heals/softcapped ranged defenses, a Tank with solid HPs/heals/resistances/great damage, a Scrapper with solid HPs/heals/resistances/great damage etc etc.
YMMV... -
-
So what 2ndary is best for a sapping dom? Thanks in advance.

Quote:I hope you're not trying to do this on Freedom...Looking for a good build that would be able to solo farm Sirens Hotspots.
REMEMBER!!!!!!!!
That Mobs can knock off ANY toggle in a PVP zone that dmgs or Debuffs them.
RTTC, Hot Feet, AAO, Arctic Air, Chocking Cloud, ETC all can be untoggled in PVP zones.
So That being said, which would be a good build for it? -
Even though I'm a comic book enthusiast, I have come to accept that any comics remade into movies today will have an updated theme or costume or whatever. In the Iron Man movie, I think he was captured in Afghanistan by Taliban type dudes but in the comics (60s), it was the Vietnamese I believe.
This comic version of the Green Lantern came out during the 50s so I think people would be more displeased if the movie stuck with the original power battery design and it showed up as old fashioned camping lantern painted green. What do you think?
