Quote:This will happen, and you will do those things. The irate poster will reply with "Why didn't they tell ME this was going to happen!"Yep.
And it will start with "Why didn't they TELL me this was going to happen!"
I will link to this post and give 2short credit for calling it.
I will get bonus points if it actually starts with the sentence I typed here.
'Cause, you know, the devs should have totally driven to his home, knocked on his door, and told him personally. -
Stargate, its a crazy trip!
You can go real far, and you don't need a car!
Or even a ship! -

Confusing McDonald's for Burger King is excusable. They're both just as tasteless.

Quote:It makes you wonder how far that will go. Where once every channel had its niche, they slowly become so watered down that they all become indistinguishable from one another. There'll come a point where the only thing different between all those cable channels will be their names. It is sad though that so many of the great theme channel have forgotten their original purpose and become just another channel.
Maybe then there will be a shakeup. Because if you have a hundred stations that are all alike, they can't all survive. After that happens, someone will get the brilliantly "novel" idea of starting a network that's devoted entirely to a single subject.
All this has happened before... -

As in having the right to copy something. Because, you know, that actually makes sense.
"Copy writing" is something else entirely. -
Quote:I can't believe they did that. I can't believe their priorities could be so whacked.SyFy just (well, like yesterday or the day before) cancelled Sanctuary.
It was Amanda Tapping's project (Samantha Carter from the Stargate franchise), and she was also the main character, Helen Magnus.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a cable channel devoted to playing Science Fiction and Fantasy 24/7? I'm sure such a mythical network would never so blatantly kill such worthy franchises.
I guess while I'm dreaming, I'll also imagine a cable network that shows nothing but cartoons all day. Or, do I dare mention it, plays music videos 24/7? Oh, to dream the impossible dream. -

Quote:This, entirely. I tried to give SGU a chance, but it just totally grated on me. That was a show that was trying too hard to be like LOST or BSG, when the Stargate franchise already had its own MO pretty well set and, to my knowledge, no one was complaining about. They tried to be the "Un-Stargate" and it just fell flat. When I learned that it was being cancelled after only two seasons I was like, "finally!"Indeed I loved SG-1 and SGA but couldn't stand SGU and dumped it after 4 or 5 episodes. I HATED the infighting, and the plot of most episodes was the characters fighting over the obstacle of the week only for the ship to fix it on it's own.
I understand it may have improved substantially later on, but by that point I had already given up on it and just didn't care. I think a lot of SG1 fans were the same. -

Maybe I should replace the game's pulse laser rifle sounds with the ones for the zat gun and staff weapon.
I've been watching every episode of Stargate SG-1 on Netflix. So far I'm up to the middle of season 6.
I've also been watching Law & Order, now that half of it is also on Netflix! Curiously, I also hear some ambient sounds from CoH that are also in this show. In particular, the "door opening" sound. This is the new sound that replaced the one CoH used to have, I should point out. Because L&O used this same sound effect in 1997.
EDIT: Maybe I should replace the game's sound effects for the Judgement powers with L&O's "clang" sound effect. -
Quote:I would suggest that perhaps it would be wise to not seek employment as a copywriter.what's to pitch?
you either like the idea of turning into a sneaky panther or you don't- the basic effect is pretty clear cut.
specifying what the power isn't is simple due diligence on the ALL SALES FINAL Marketplace.
Imagine the meetings with clients at the ad agency...
"So what's to sell? This is just some glorified sugar water."
"Dude, you just blew the Pepsi account!"
"So?" -
Quote:This is pretty dumb. If lore content is irrelevant, then why does any game designer bother to include it? Even simple games from 30+ years ago had rudimentary themes. You're saying that Pac-Man would have been as much of a success if it just had a plain white cabinet with no markings other than the title "Dot Eater"? No music? No sound effects? Just a maze and some blocks. That's starting to sound like the Atari 2600 version of the game, and we all know what a blockbuster success that was, ahem.Who the figurehead is has zero impact on my enjoyment of the game.
It's a variation on my comment that RP must necessarily take a back seat to good game design- as long as they're getting the mechanics right, lore is largely irrelevant. They can make Fusionette the 'face of the game', provided I keep enjoying my in-game time.
I'm pretty sure that the way a product is presented has a lot to do with its success or failure, especially given functionally equivalent game mechanics (as in that other super hero MMO). A game's lore and ambiance can go a long way in making something that otherwise be tedious and boring into something worth playing.
Afterall, you didn't have to resubscribe to CoH. You could have just closed your eyes and imagined what it was like while pressing the WASD keys, moving and clicking the mouse, and making sound effects with your mouth. 'Cause really, all you're doing is pressing keys and moving the mouse around. Why pay someone so you can do even more of that? -

I'd want to see Praetorian Hamidon invade the Shadow Shard. A full on fight between him and Rularuu that has the potential to unravel the multiverse.
And, as usual, something that big should turn out to be a Nemesis plot. -
Quote:The thread is 30 pages in. I'm not at all surprised that it's degenerated. It is a very rare thing for a thread to remain focused, on topic and without snark more than a few dozen posts into it.This thread is lols
Which is sad, since it's a thread made by Dink :\
I kind of think that's sort of a test to see just how civilized humans have become. In any casual public discourse, how long can any group go on until things get all stupid? -

Quote:Why are you so afraid of the c-word? You're critical of other people's choices. Even if you decide not to communicate your dissatisfaction with others' builds, it's obvious that you have them. Just own up to it already.Stating that X powerset isn't up to par has nothing to do with criticizing other people's decisions. It's an assertion which can be challenged like any other statement. People may chose to play characters for any number of reasons and I'm not privy to nor have any interest in their decisions. If people insist on interpreting it as criticism that's their prerogative. I'm not about to censor myself just because people take offense that their internet superheroes aren't the best.

"I can't believe we just failed a freaking BAF! But I got some good news!"
"What?"
"I just saved a load of money on car insurance, by switching to GEICO!" -
During a TPN trial (again!), one of the other players suddenly asked why we were going into these buildings and broadcasting stuff. What were we broadcasting? I made the suggestion that we were trying to sell them auto insurance, or something like that. Someone else piped up that were spamming them with commercials for Oxyclean!

In the TPN trial, when that gun guy* has you "Marked for Death", make sure to make a lot of Steven Seagal movie title puns.
*(What IS his name? Maestro? Monstro? Minestrone?) -
A proc isn't a set bonus. I do believe you're right in that the set bonuses from a purple or pvp set will still function regardless of whether the power they're slotted in is operating or not. A set IO with a proc won't work unless the power it's slotted in is functioning.
