What’s our goal? Simply put: if a player wants to do something solo, it should be CHOICE. Teaming shouldn’t be required, but rather encouraged.

You are my hero. You should end your posts with "Statesman- AWAY!" from now on.

    Boss Changes

part of the beauty of the game is that you don't need to wait in order to get to fun. I don't want to lose that in the rush to encourage grouping.

That should be on a big flying banner over Cryptic, and forcibly tattooed on the foreheads of any upcoming MMOG developers.

While you're at it, could you /please/ take a look at the number of door missions beyond 45 that can be done solo? It seems like I can't find a mission that doesn't have an AV or Monster in it, much less a boss. Bosses I can still handle, but AVs and Monsters are out of the question. Thanks.

    The Kudos Thread

Thanks for running a game for over half a year and still leaving me very little about which to complain.

    Spoiler ...

My understanding (At level 32) is that the COT use normal human hosts to bring more of their demon comrades to Earth. So they are not transforming themselves per se - they are empowering their pals (who then empower their pals, and so on, and so on).

It's a giant evil pyramid scheme! Does that mean their motivation is Money?
  5. I don't have time to read nine pages, so I'm sorry if this has been said before.

    One betrayal is not enough.

Referencing the comics (which ought to always been the first reference for game mechanics like this) there is precedent for characters switching back and forth a number of times. Sometimes the change is insignificant, sometimes not. This is what I'd propose:

    3 total betrayals.

If you're a hero, you can become a villain. You have a chance to think better of it and become a hero again, but you are tainted. You have the potential to fall again. If you do, there's no going back. That's it. Even if the hero did repent another time, no one would trust him.

A villain can become a hero but be lured back to his old ways. If he turns his back on evil a second time, though, he has proved to himself that he can overcome his base urges (as well as essentially alienating any villainous contacts he might have had). Relapse, after all, is part of recovery. (Example: Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was created as an evil vampire, then his soul was returned to him. In the series, he loses his soul again and becomes evil once more. In a climactic battle, his soul is restored and he is good again. He never again turns evil.)

This is not only better for story, but better for gameplay. Similar to the "three respecs in the life of a character" mechanic, it allows players to experiment without necessarily ruining their character on the first try. However, the shift is not insignificant. Players have a chance to experience either side and determine which they enjoy best. Characters are given a chance to redeem themselves or relapse into their evil ways.

    More answers....

    My one question:

If SR does end up needing changes, is it likely that you will make changes to the actual effects of some powers (such as swapping out the AE defense powers for something else and putting attaching the AE defense to existing powers) or are we more likely to see "behind the scenes" effectivness changes?

Also, thank you for taking time out to keep us informed. That fear change in particular looks very nice and will open up some powers on some characters that I wanted but didn't pick up due to effectiveness. The players who don't appreciate this dev team don't know what they've got.
  8. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwesoooooooooome
  9. I tried the respec trial over and over, and just couldn't do it. Tons of deaths. I got the Tough badge the very night badges went live.

Then they lowered the difficulty of the mission.

I have yet to fail it since. I've done more than 5 times since, both in pickup teams and supergroup teams. I've done it at low levels with the sky raiders and high levels with the freakshow. While you may have some deaths, I've yet to see any team screw up so badly that they couldn't finish it successfully.
  10. Give it a try, Unikorn. Produce professional quality material.

He's not being generous. There are a lot of textures in City of Heroes. One person, working alone on a tileset? Easily a week.

  12. Hahahahaha, that's great.

I like how he doesn't even mention the fact that characters slide on ice. That doesn't just happen automatically, they had to tell the computer to make that happen!

  14. I have 2 major complaints regarding this system:

    1) I don't know all the details.

    2) It seems to be bugged on Infinity. I can get it to work for any of my characters, nor can anyone in my supergroup, nor can anyone I've talked to on the entire server. Fix needed!

Seriously, it looks great and I can't wait for it to come out. This'll let me add another level of depth and customization to my characters, which is always desirable.

(Wait for someone to reply to my second complaint without reading the rest of my post, assuming that I really think it's supposed to be live and that it's bugged on Infinity.)
  15. I'm going to try to talk Statesman into naming the next one: Issue 4: Everyone Dies and the World Explodes.

    Just to see the reaction
