  1. Grats to Yellow Jack, After-School Special, and Sovereign-1!

And thanks for the opportunity Pawnn. Can't wait to see how these pieces come out
  2. Definitely the right Forum if you came looking for information on FanArt commissions and artists. Unfortunately peeps can't discuss prices openly but there are lots of people here who can point you in the right direction of artists that could suit your preference/budget.

I don't have the links on me but hopefully Bayani, Thor's Assassin, Rowrsie and Katfood will post links to their websites where you can see artists work and styles.

Me and a few others commission artists from here and deviantArt.com, you can check my gallery in the link below if you like. More than willing to point you in the direction you want if you find something you like.

Aside from that, welcome to the friendliest Forum on CoH and do check out the art threads people have posted.
  3. I like the Kirby style background ball thing going on as well
  4. Happy Happy! Joy Joy! Happy B'day to you
  5. I applaud all the hard effort, sweat and tears that went into this.

Thank you so much for immortalizing my character alongside all the other great characters in this monumental undertaking.

    You are very much appreciated!
  6. The TA has spoken! All hail the TA!

Nice post TA and nice to see you're still around.
  7. Gollum88 is currently doing a mock trading card series based on my City of Heroes characters.

For your viewing pleasure, here is his latest piece, Comrade Hero!

While it's nice to have alot of art, there is something to quality over quantity. My gallery doesn't get alot of attention and I don't get alot of freebies. I am proud of the pieces I do have, and I think they're some of the best work posted on the forums. This current project I'm working on is really starting to come together too, and I hope it sets the bar to an even higher level.

Bayani has a very valid point. Don't compromise your character's ideal vision just to stockpile pieces with the intent of beating someone else's collection.

While it's nice to get freebies and to even win the occasional artpiece, it feels great having hunted down an artist whose style you like and convincing (and cajouling) them to commission your personal character into a great piece of art.
  9. I will. I most certainly will....
  10. Good luck on trying to topple the commander of commissions, Speedy. I'll be satisfied to get a comment from Thor's Assassin along the lines of 'That's a nice little collection you have there.'

    Maybe then I'll be worthy
  11. I sent an email as requested.

Good luck to all who have entered so far.
  12. Nice sketch, and I'm sure you'll do justice with some mighty fine lines and colouring
  13. We likes it, we likes it a lot...

  14. The art I commissioned over the Christmas/New Year period is slowly trickling in. Here's three recent pieces done for me. Enjoy.

    Gaston25:
    Iron Chancellor

    Gollum88:
    War Bride
    Last Avatar
  15. Wings! Where's my scattergun!

Looking good. The wings do suit the character
  16. Looking very nice Gideon, this piece is going to turn out great when finally coloured.

    Gratz on a nice score!

    Ok, here's the deal,

If you want to make quick 3D images of your heroes and villains, you can't beat Poser. There's a lot of 'serious' 3D people who think Poser is crap because of a hundred different reasons, but for a newcomer to the 3D field, it's the easiest to learn, hands down. Older versions like Poser 4 and 5 will only cost you $199 - $299 if you shop around and find deals... and you can be making heroes in a few days or weeks.

Poser allows you to load premade human figures, slap clothing on them, add textures, add hair, pose the figure, hit the render button and you start geting results in very little time.

To do the same in Maya would take months, if not years. I know Maya well and I still can't do the same stuff I can with Poser. In my case, I devoted my time to mastering the parts of Maya that Poser can't actually accomplish and have learned to blend the two.

Anoher of Poser's advantages is the VAST amount of free support available. By that, I mean tutorials and free models. I have somewhere in the order of 30 gigs of free stuff I've downloaded over the last 10 years and I've only touched the surface.

Lastly, Poser is a good introduction to 3D. It's friendly, it's fairly intuitive, and it gives quick results. If you find you want more (like making your own models), then you take the next step... but buying Maya or Max without any 3D expertise isn't something I'd recommend.

30 gigs! Jeepers. You just gave me a computer heart attack.
  18. Daz|Stuido is nice and free, Poser is quite expensive unless you can pick up an older version that is sometimes offered free (Poser 5 was free for a while).

There are lots of sites dedicating to providing material for both programmes, either free or for a price. I've started learning to use Poser and find that you can easily chew up money buying outfits, props, and figures to use with it.

    Good luck with your endeavours.
  19. Hi GreyScribe,

I'd like to take you up on this.

After some arm twisting I caved in and created another version of my character Comrade Hero on the Pinnacle Server. This Comrade Hero is almost identical to the original Comrade Hero of Protector server except for one major difference.

Comrade Hero of Pinnacle is a Peacebringer.

If you feel up to the task, would you mind reading the bio of my original Comrade Hero and try coming up with a story/background for my new Comrade Hero?

    Thanks in advance.

    Comrade Hero
  20. Your rusty is far superior to my rusted. I bow in deference *scrape scrape*

Don't drink if you know you're depressed. That is most DEFINITELY not the answer. Believe me I've been there.

*hugs for squirrel* well we love ya anyways

I second this. While popular culture likes to tell us that the best place to meet new people is in clubs and bars, I wouldn't go down that route alone if you're feeling depressed. Alcohol and depression don't mix.

I have a similar situation. I suffer from severe agoraphobia with panic attacks and depression and am actually classified as paranoid. And no I don't wear a strait jacket or live in a padded cell.

Hobby groups and classes are a good way to meet people who have similar interests to you. Reaching out to your family and family friends can also get something started for you (if it's safe to do so).

Public places like libraries, museums, art galleries and other community places is also an option to meet other people, as isvolunteer work in agencies that specialize in interacting and/or helping other people.

If none of that appeals I recommend travel to cure the blues. Depending on what you can afford, an OE (Overseas Experience) can be the best medicine for feeling down. You go to new places, meet new people and do interesting things. It can be fun as well as educational. And if you don't like traveling on your own, there are also package group tours etc.

One final word of advice. If you are depressed, then please go seek medical advice. I don't know what the social stigma of having depression is like in the US, but here there is a concerted effort to help people realized that depression is a very real problem for normal people. (1 in 5 people in New Zealand suffer some form of depression during their life).

Here's hoping you tame the black dog. It doesn't happen overnight, believe me, but you can learn to live with it, and work around its limitations.

Oh and exercise. You may hate it (I know I do), but exercise does help with depression and those lovely endorphins your body makes can do wonders for your state of mind.

*big furry hug from a kiwi* As they say down here, "She'll be right, mate."

and if you want to IM, I'm available like all the other good folk who have posted here.
