Let's see what you can do for 'TheNet'. Don't forget, he wears ninja shoes! :P

lmao, classic. -
Since the City of Heroes we've all "grown up with" has evolved, with help of Archive.org, it's time to take a look back and reminisce about the good ole days.
CoH.com - version 1
CoH.com - version 2
CityOfVillains.com - version1
CityOfVillains.com - version 2
CityOfVillains.com - version 3
(Note: If you get stuck on a loading page, click on "Impatient?" on the bottom, right hand of the page. Archive.org may capture a date, but it doesn't always pull the corect info for that date. So you may be seeing a capture of a May, 2005 site but has the information for a Dec. 2005 version.)
I dunno. It's fun for me to go back and view old articles, check out the old pre-beta forums (in a limited capacity), and reminisce about all the things that drew me to the game.
So how about you? Feel free to share anything about the good ole days. We're about to embark on a new journey so we should keep our own archive for the future generations of CoH players. With luck, many of the people we're met on our travels will be with us once again. -
Just checking the costume creator and I no longer have access to any of the Collector's Edition capes for Males. Can anyone else verify?

Oh, I had a totally different idea of cut-scene bombing. I was expecting that everyone was group TP'd to the spot and everyone triggered [Self Destruct] a second before the cutscene. Would be funny to see if you were quick enough that the explosion would register any kind of damage on Marauder

I've been going through about 70 random pages in the Virtue Name Watch thread and I see people asking for names, looking for globals of people that have a certain name, complaints that all the conceivable "good" names are taken, people willing to trade and/or give away names...
So I pose the question in this thread title: How do you come up with your character (name, look, background, etc.) ?
Rarely a name pops up in my head where I have to go rushing to see if it's taken. For me, I can't create a character based on a name. I have to have the feel of the character before I can think of the name. I have to have a sense of who the character is before I can think of a name. Most of the time, I will spend quite a bit of time in the character creator adjusting costume pieces and colors before the character starts to come to "life."
Then I have to figure out the persona. Is he/she troubled or tormented? Does the facial details reflect the character's strife? Do all the costume pieces fit the characters persona? If someone saw that character on the street, for the first time after saving a life/commiting a felony, what would they envision the hero/villain is all about? Only then can I get a feel about who the character is and BAM... time for a name to reflect everything I listed above.
Sure, some names are taken but I tend to find many that are available and that can wrap up who my character is in one or two words.
I do, however, have a ton of saved costumes that I just couldn't find the suitable name for. I'm not one to search and search and search for a name JUST so I can play the character. If I can't find a name in a reasonable time, I scrap the alt and move onto the next creation.
So, I pose the question again: How do you come up with your character? There is no right or wrong. Just want to see if I'm the only crazy person that does what I do. :P -
Ty kindly. Will give it a shot. I can afford it, from the looks of it. For the things like Positron's blast that are lvl 33 IO's, should I just go for the 50's? I've got a ton of them sitting in storage.
-
I've decided that I want to respec my dark/dark corr. that I haven't played in years.
I gave up on the alt and it's been collecting dust ever since it hit 50. Can someone give me an IO build, nothing crazy like purples, that might renew my interest in it?
You pick the powers and IO's and I'll give it a whirl
ty in advance (hopefully) -
I base all mine on the "Live with Regis & Kelly" show.

Some people work hard on SG/VG sites. Some of us are hoping that by seeing a properly designed site it will get people more excited about a group that puts time and effort into in and out of game SG stuff.
*points to banner in sig* -
As someone that (originally) was a heavy RP'er, I noticed that when it came time to do stuff with VG members it was hard to RP your story when you're forced to RP someone elses. I'm not saying that taking part in another persons story isn't fun. The part that's not fun is when someone logs in and immediately you have to put aside whatever you are doing in order to let this person play out his story, regardless of your own. I never was able to develop the original story of the Arachnos Commander because, being the leader of the group, I had to sit (for hours and hours) helping others develop theirs.
When I first started the Arachnos Elite, the story of the group was simple: a highly trained group of Arachnos operatives that did the work of Lord Recluse.
Little by little, new members would integrate themselves into the groups story and after some time they'd try to make the group about their own characters rather than about helping others play the their own story or play the groups story.
One guy, who shall remain nameless, came into the group and seemed okay. A week later, he told eveyone that he was the son of Lord Recluse. People in the group explained to him what "cannon" was. He was mad because no matter what other said, "Lord Recluse is my father."
We'd run RP teams and during some heavy fights, he'd back off and let everyone else fight. "Sorry, I'm too valuable to my dad. I can't die."
After that happened, people flipped out and told him that if he didn't smarten up he'd get kicked. So he changed his story. A few more weeks later, "I am the clone of Lord Recluse. You shall bow before me." He would then tell people he was going to take the group away from me because I was just "an arachnos commander" and that he was the supreme overlord of the Rogue Isles.
*kick*
Now, I'm one that tries to go by cannon as much as the normal hardcore player, but when someone does something like this, it makes life hell when trying to run a group one way, take care of issues like that, try and calm down the other members and try to find some sanity to make playing fun.
I've yet to run into players that don't want to be the "end all or end alls." I'm not saying that your characters shouldn't be important to you. just don't make is so that everyone has to find your characters important. I know that when I play, I'm playing how I like. I'm just not forcing the way I play down on you.
When I see players RP'ing that they are gods, sons/daughters of gods, reincarnated gods, etc. I know that I'm not going to have any fun because it's no longer about your character and more about getting wrapped up in some diluted reality where I'm supposed to believe "/em punches you so hard you think you are dying" is really happening to my character.
I like to RP, but not when it's "Bang! I shot you!" "No you didn't, I had a shield up." "But I used magic bullets and they passed through."
Didn't mean this to be a rant. Just that we're all looking for likeminded RP'ers, but in the end it's hard to actually find just that. -
Arachnos Commander has been, by far, my most favorite name. During the CoV headstart, I logged in right away and wanted to create a villain that paid homage to my favorite comic book villain, Cobra Commander. (Yeah, the comic book version wasn't the bumbling oaf as seen in the cartoons. Well, not as much.)
I saw the name Cobra Commander was free but knew it would be generic bait. Since CoV was focused around the Arachnos, I figured that I'd be in the clear. From that point I knew that the Arachnos Elite would have to be formed.
He was made into a Mastermind because, well, he IS a Mastermind. Have your henchmen in the forefront taking the heat while you're in the background overseeing them? Yep. A Mastermind all the way.
After 5 (?) years I figured it was time to make a change. I killed him off and remade him as a Warshade. The "new" AC has been my MOST favorite alt to play not only because learning how to play a WS was so much more different than a MM, but because I was able to craft a new background for him.
I'll be playing the Arachnos Commander till the servers shut down. What incarnation he will be next? Who knows? All I know is that I have a hell of a time playing him now -
To me, it looks as BaBs saw the attack coming where Sister Psyche was facing the opposite direction and was startled that something happened behind her.
-
Do a google image search on any African American professional wrestlers. As anyone exposed to the brightest spotlights, especially when sweaty from doing any professional sport, depending on the angle, the washout can cause the same thing that's going on with BaBs in the photo.
Shadowing mixed with sweat/water/oil and an extremely bright light source can duplicate what's seen in the new loading screen. -
What if...
That's not "Back Alley Brawler?" What if that's the never seen, or heard of, son of BaBs? What if BaBs was killed during the destruction of Galaxy?
Or, what if they decided to make some changes to him purely because they wanted to make him look as bad-a$$ as Marauder?
Either way, the changes to BaBs really brought out the worst in people. I've never been more ashamed to see players throw the race card because of a videogame character is shown "lighter" because of explosions all around. Watch a war movie. Watch a flash grenade go off. It's called dramatic lighting. -
Quote:http://cgi.ebay.com/City-of-Villains...tem#vi-contentA minor one, but I'd love to be able to get that Arachnos logo that came with some special edition of CoV that doesn't have the bulky 2nd color surrounding it like the one vet reward one does. Makes it hard to put it on anything but tights and not look ridiculous.

To note: you can find lots of CoV Collector' Edition for less than $20. A couple of years ago I found a wholesale game place online and asked for a discount if I bought 20 or more CoV Collector's Editions. The guy wanted to get rid of them as they were just taking up space so he sold me 20 copies for $50. If I had any left, I'd give you a copy but used them all as giveaways for my group and some friends a while back. -
Quote:Simple. You need something stronger than Arachnos Soldier to be their Commander.
The "original" Arachnos Commander was a Mastermind long before VEAT's. After 4 years of playing nothing but the MM, I grew tired of him and killed him off. (Arachnos Commander laid to rest) The original AC didn't have much of a story, so I rerolled him to make a concept I enjoyed.
His new bio:
Quote:On September 15, 2009, I was laid to rest; a victim of kindness and generosity, I was.
My apprentice, the Arachnos Oracle...
It was she, who I had rescued from her homeland prison of Cimerora, that betrayed me! It was she, in dealings directly with Lord Recluse, that plotted my death! It was she, with a smile seen in her eyes, that drove the blade through my heart!
But it was fate, that day, that lead me to my destiny. Per arrangement of my last request, my body was delivered and set to rest in the dimension known as Psi-Delta 7-2. Unbeknownst to even myself, the planet held a secret... the secret to resurrection and immortal life! This secret filled me and finally gave me purpose!
Today, I am a leader without an army.
Today, I am a man without a home.
Today, I am reborn...

Sorry about the size. Not on my normal computer and have nothing to resize it (not even MSPaint)

While they're at it, they should fix the Grandville beacon so that it's the CORRECT graphic, unlike the damaged graphic we've had since 2006. Oh, and the Pocket D beacon as well.

If' I'd have designed the Incarnate System:
Every shard, thread, and merit would be global and that all of your alts could use them from a pooled salvage lot.
Even the Powers would be global. As in, you earn them and unlock them on one alt and they'd be available to every 50 you have. You could then set the power on one alt, log into another alt and have the same power available.
This would give ALL players incentive to unlock EVERY powerset from every Incarnate power.
How I would limit the powers:
If you selected one power for Alpha on your main, all of your level 50 alts would be locked out of selecting a new Alpha power for 1 hour. The perfect amount of time to run an iTrial, log out, grab a new alt, then select the powers suitable for it.
For me, this would be ideal as I have 45+ 50's. Earning account unlockables (coming in 20.5) is good, but having to spend time on making all my 50's go through and recraft all of the items is going to be just as tedious as earning the Merits for the unlockables.
Just my 2inf. -

If we don't get all of this, if we do get an 80's pack, I'm going to break out the Zubaz pants, peg the legs, and break out the freshest grooves out in front of Paragon Studios! -
For me: yes, I'd pay for an Incarnate booster.
As someone that's soloed most of my CoH gamelife, I do not like the fact that I'm relegated to only doing content that forces me to play with people I'd rather not, only to earn an aesthetic item.
I don't agree with Posi's post about having gated materials based on grouping. While he may think that it will get people to play more of the Incarnate trials, it's made the opposite effect on me. In fact, I've played much less CoH in the past 6 months because it's not allowing me to play the way I choose... like most of the game was based around.
While adding new content is key, stuff like the Incarnate Trials (and only earning the "awesome" rewards from it) is segregating players even more. It's no different than forcing "badgers" to PvP for badges.
The game has been slowly steering away from the mini-games that allowed people to play when/if they felt like it. More and more issues come that take the option of if/when away and say "this is what you have to do just because we'd rather you to play more of this than more of that."
Sure you can say, "Well, don't play the content if you don't want to." But when that's all that we're presented with, it doesn't give us very many options beyond forced content.
I'll always stay subbed to CoH but little by little, the luster seems to fade in terms of logging in and just being able to enjoy what's available. -
The question is: all of the people that have alts locking up... did you apply any of the new Steampunk booster pieces to your characters that can't log in?
