Don't glance past the point of this thread. Someone was kicked from a chat for making light of sexual assault. Someone else was banned for posting a link to a porn website, to make light of the topic of sexual assault.

If you're all for forcing materials or subject matter like this down the throats of minors, that's your business. But VU has always had rules, set up by the OPs, that said these subjects were not allowed. Yet people want to push, and push, and push the limits till someone gets their "rights" taken away. Then the bad guys are the OPs for enforcing the rules they made.

Everyone on the internet is an anonymous saint and sinner. Sadly, when you're using a pay service and you give your personal information to the "man" you are no longer anonymous. And if reporting people is my way of helping out, or in your words "thinking I'm better than everyone else," well, so be it.

We live in a sick world. We live in a world where cyber bullying can push people over the edge, even to the point of suicide. To you, these people many be nothing more than a bunch of text. To me, I know there is someone on the other end of your taunting and berating. You can laugh about sexual assault, you can make the jokes, but since all you see is text, you think that your little "rants" are more important than the people you step on? You think that blind comments like "grow thicker skin" are going to sit well with people have been sexually assaulted?

To me, if you can joke about an issue like this, then you are no better than the people committing the acts. Why? Because you are forcing people to relive these experiences. And you have NO right to mentally hold someone hostage of the fears, pain, and torture suffered from the actual event.

Grow thicker skin? How about grow a soul?
  2. How so, Venture? You mean that the rules don't go into effect until after someone has broken them?

    Makes sense

    >.>
  3. Rule 1 to surviving a pay service that has it's own rules regarding what is and isn't accepted: abide by the EULA
  4. Suggestion: Interactive Advertising

Each time a new "issue" is released, the Developers spend time doing interviews with the major MMO news sources. Well, why not use that a little more to your advantage to get active players as well as potential customers to spend more time learning about the product?

Since you are a long time player, you obviously know about the "Mysterious Letters" written by an unknown, in-game character. Those letter find their way into many Flashback/Time Travel missions and give clues about future happenings about the "Coming Storm."

Well, what if this "Mysterious Person" left certain "keywords" in all of the upcoming interviews, that when the time is right, reveals something major abuot Going Rogue?

It could make the Going Rogue advertising more interactive since people will have to read through each line of advertising/interviews to find the correct words (or correct website URL) to create a "Hidden Mysterious Letter" from this person that spills the beans about Going Rogue.

Heck, throw in a freebie that can be applied to each new account or active account. Have the last line of the hidden letter have one more clue to a website url (like http://www.CityOfHeroes.com/the-coming-storm) where it generates a random upgrade code that whoever applies it to their account, before GoRo, gets something like an exclusive Going Rogue chest emblem, maybe one of the Paragon Studios logo?

I think making an interactive advertising campaign, that allows people to feel like they are doing something useful while taking part in the advertising, might be something that, in itself, will make CoH and Ncsoft stand out a bit more.

Anyway, thanks for the time and welcome to the forums
  5. I suggest that you set up a donation page so that, if each player wants to donate $1.00, the money gathered would go towards advertising CoH during a highly watched NBC program.

That or just keep the $7.00 donated and buy an ice cream cake for the office.
  6. Jade, read the EULA. There is no free speech in CoH as it is not a public forum. It is a corporately owned game that sets the rules and regulations regarding on what they allow. I'm sorry that there are people that abide by their rules and upset you to no end.

It's not about "us" being right or being "full" of ourselves. It's about playing by the rules of the EULA. It's about being in an environment for years then all of a sudden, someone tries to makes waves. If we can play by the rules, then everyone else should as well.

If that's too difficult or too problematic, then there are plenty of other places to go.
  7. What about the link to the porn site?

Stop trying to play the innocent card. There are players in VU that are under the age of consent. Publishing a link in a public forum, it is giving minors an ability to access something not intended for them as well as putting yourself in a situation that crosses legal boundaries.

Had I been there for the entire conversation, I would have reported it directly to customer support.

    CoH/V = Teen rated game. 13+

    As Kegan said: Smarten up.
  8. I was just about to test something when the servers went down...

If this cross-server teaming is actually true, then what might be happening is that missions might become hosted on their own server. So when "Player 1 from Test1" enters the mission, he is taken to the mission hosted on a server that Test 1 and Test 2 can access. Once in the mission, "Player 1 from Test 1" can send the invite to "Player 2 from Test 2" and Player 2 can zone into the mission on the mission server.

    The reason I think this:

Dev's Choice missions are, supposedly, hosted on a server separate from the normal MA missions. Since Dev's Choice missions don't follow the same AE rules (ie. recipe, salvage, non-nerfed XP, etc.) due to a separate, accessable server, then it's not all that far fetched.

What if they implemented a new leveling system?

Example: What if CoH2 featured a new leveling system that increased the level cap to, say, level 75. However, the only way to go beyond level 50 is to participate in the new "Incarnate" system. This way, you can import a level 50 Incarnate from CoH1, then be allowed to continue leveling from 50 to 75.

Of course, a new alt in CoH2 would have to make it to level 50 before being able to access the Incarnate system. So it would be beneficial for CoH1 subscribers to continue to support NCsoft buy being able to jump right into the new game with a level 50.

    Or......

What if we could import all CoH1 data from a level 50 into CoH2 and be able to start fresh, as a level 1, with a new AT. The only data that would be transferred over is things like badges, accolade powers, costume, biography, veteran status, etc.

  12. I thought of one more I'd like to see:

Battle Damage - After a long fight or grueling TF/SF, it would be awesome to see bruising, tearing of cloth and dented armor/shields/hemlets on your characters. Of course, the damage is fixed when using inspirations or being healed.
  13. Of course, it may or may not happen and the chances are they just were securing the naming rights incase they wanted another product with the City of Heroes brand name...

But, if it were a reality, what features would you like to see make it to CoH2? For me:

    City Vault

More open world content mixed in with the standard instanced missions

Importing your CoH1 characters into your account

100% of the Hero, Villain, and Rogue content to be played out in the same environment rather than separated totally between faction specific zones/worlds

Badges as well as alternative collectable items

    10+ player teams

    and PvP Task Forces :P
  14. If memory serves me right, Jay said we weren't getting a body/fast scale slider because it would cause issues with items clipping.

That if they were to add a fat slider, all costumes from this point on would be able to take the change, but every other costume item from before this point would have to be remade. There is WAY too many things to remake since most items are usable by NPC's and playermade alts. Also, all NPC items would also have to be remade just incase they port them over to player-usable costume pieces.

  16. Actually, wasn't that a bug that happened within the first few weeks of release back in '04. I vaguely remember hearing something like that years ago.

    We Love you T!

I firmly stand behind my, well, stance that T is an awesome guy and I support him in every way. Well, minus one way. I shall go no further.

    CoH2 registered?

Has anyone even tried going to CoH2.com?

    >.>
  19. After trying a bunch of different slash commands, I still can not figure out the Neutral Stance emote. I know it's a default stance, mostly seen in the costume creator, but I've been wanting to make a macro using it.

It's top of the list catagorized under "Idle" in the new & improved in-game macro list.

Has anyone else figured out the /e command for it or has anyone seen BaBs post any of the recent additions to the command list?

    *EDIT*

Nothing to see here, move along...

When I first went to the Emote List on ParagonWiki, I didn't see it. Of course, I was looking for "default" or "neutral", instead it was listed as Idle1.

    Carry on... >.>

    Oh well.
This I am confused over. Are you talking about zones or tilesets. Because both are extremely different than "maps." As of PAX, we know of at least 4 new zones for Praetoria. That without war walls, the transitioning between zones will appear seamless, from city to city. This doesn't mean that they haven't added a ton of mission maps either.

What I remember being a discussion about what a "tileset" is, a tileset is the graphic set used to make up zones and missions. Now, if everything from GoRo on is shiny and set for Ultra Mode, then two tilesets could be all that is needed. One tile set is what makes up the look of the underground; one tileset makes up the look of the Praetorian Tech Labs. Everything in CoH is reused. Sometimes sets are duplicated and have battle-damage added; some sets are duplicated and made to look weathered.

They could add hundreds of new door missions, each using the same tileset, but wrapped over a different mission "frame." You would still have a different mission design, just that it would have similarities to others.

Example: all heroside and villainside warehouses use the same tilesets. Well, depending on the type of warehouse. Villainside is made to look darker while heroside is fresh and cleany (or is it vice-versa?) They have the same floors, walls, steel girders, steps, windows, doorways, catwalks, etc, all pulled from a tileset.

    Secret IDs?

I suggested something similar to this a year or so ago, where only in local, you have the ability to rename your visibile character in the same fashion that MM's can rename their pets. Like the pets, we know their actual name is something like "Thug 1" but the rename is actually a mask that lets you see a totally different name.

The responce I got from a redname (that's no longer with the company) was that the problems surrounding that was the possibility to "grief" people by giving your visible name the name of someone else's character, then getting them into trouble by harassing others so that the real player with that name would be reported. Then he mentioned that the ability to give yourself a trademarked name would be there, unless a specific system, like MM pets, was made to avoid certain names from being used. But, there is always a way around the filters.

The only method he mentioned that would be possible was having both names visible while you are speaking. Like:

Local: Jimmy Jack (aka. Silver Turnip): "Silver Turnip is here to save the day!"

That's just an example. The only problem to making that would be to redesign the chat system. Simply too much time and effort to go into something that doesn't affect gameplay and not something that everyone would want to use, unlike new powersets.

  25. So, umm....

Positron confirmed, tonight, that I'm... well, an idiot.

Well, not in so many words. But he did say, "Someone started the rumor on the forums that all the War Walls are coming down. I was referring to Praetoria. It wouldn't make much sence to take the ones, currently in-game, down."

    I sorry Positron
