1. Well said Ringy. Fully supported.

You can be at times less diplomatic than the situation might call for but you also have one hell of a backbone not only to stand up to defend that which requires defending but also for admitting mistakes and changing directions. That is never easy and for that you have my deep admiration. Have had for months, actually.

Kudos.
2. While I agree with the principle there was still some added satisfaction when a friend who's a professional with this stuff created a chocolate R2-D2 weighting about a kilo for decorating purposes and I got it after it had been on display. Good ghu I was stuffed!

For the life of me I can't recall what happened to the Naboo starfighter chocolate replica, tho.

Do you have enough coffee or other highly caffeinated beverages at hand?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, but I'll die if I drink them - so I'll just stick with water .

[/ QUOTE ]

Dying is no good, unless it's a marketing ploy and even so it works only if your work is ready to be published posthumously.

So, 'enough' in this case needs to be defined to be 'zero'.

Risking bad timing I am now compelled to mention something people can prepare in their homes for this - death by caffeine. What is needed is dark chocolate and coffee beans. Grind the beans and melt the cocolate. Put the coffee bean bits on a plate and douse with chocolate. Wait until ready. I expect this same principle to work if coffee beans are substituted by bits of white chocolate. Haven't ever tried but now that I think of it... Holy sugar overload, Batman! To the stores!
4. The intro text got me interested enough so downloading it as I type.

Also, welcome aboard all who have! The last weekend is rushing past us and the final stump of a week of frantic preparations starts. Are your chocolate hoards well stocked? Do you have enough coffee or other highly caffeinated beverages at hand? Do all those wonderful people who'll be supporting you for the next month (known as friends) know not to bug you with party invites or that thing called 'social life'?

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Get your affairs in order. Then it's time to do some gravity well diving.

None of you tell me anything these days.

Then again, better her pregnant than Coile...

More to the point, it better BE Coile's

Seeing how many girls circle around - it better be Sword.

Old man Jack

I don't have too much time to read and thus I rarely read other people stories. I'm glad I read this one. It's a feel good piece as it made me feel cheery. Well done.

The more I think about this, the more tempted I become. It's just how to combat the 6 days without a PC, as I'm a very slow hand-writer.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd suggest calculating the gap in. Assume you have only 24 days to do it in, set a daily quota and meet it. If during the 6 days you scribble anything by hand it's a bonus.

Or borrow someone's old laptop that is not much good except for typing. Assuming you have electricity during your hiatus.

Far as I know, that three hour joke I love to tell is public domain.

[/ QUOTE ]

My favourite ones are "Drumming must never cease" and "The man who loved Tina Turner". Excellent fun for long drives, just be out of the car when it's time to hit the punchline.
10. [ QUOTE ]
I could write 50,000 words in under a day.

The word "A" written fifty thousand times over counts, yes?

[/ QUOTE ]

Tongue in cheek but since I'm forumwhor... posting I'll answer anyway. From NaNoWriMo rules:

Can I write one word 50,000 times?
No. Well... No.

Check the rules, folks. Not because there'd be a need but I was asked if there was an age limit and I didn't know for sure. Now I noticed it's mentioned there. If you have questions, maybe FAQ and Rules have answers readily available.

Or ask here and someone's bound to answer.

And the answer to age limit was - no, there is no age limit.

Less than four days to go. Level up now, soon it'll be tougher.

Do you gotta post it all on the website when you finish?

[/ QUOTE ]

You don't have to show a single word to anyone. All you have to do is write. And 'have to' must be understood in the proper context here.

Then again you can post your story in here (I think CoXness might be expected) or anyplace else.

Dunno if Coile is aware that Meadow's Nictus seperated off as a seperate entity some time ago, vanished for over a week, hasn't been seen at the statue for ages and that Meadow has recently asked Kit to lend her a quantum rifle?

Guess not.

[/ QUOTE ]

No one ever tells Coile these things. Not that they have any real reason to, mind you. Maybe it comes up some day.

I think last time Coile was aware of Meadow and Sin'darin (sp?) was when Tempest folks met some Militia girls outside DA and Meadow went past / over / something. That was 2-3 weeks ago and then he got a chilly feeling in his innards. (Handled via tells.)
13. [ QUOTE ]
I'd love to have a go at this but I'm sure I'd never be able to write 50,000 words in one month. It seems very tough. Having never written anything more than a few pages long someting of this size, in such a short space of time, is a bit daunting.

[/ QUOTE ]

My goal is of course to get 50k words together and be a NaNoWriMo winner. Of course it is. However, I don't think it'll by the end of the day be the main achievement.

I'm interested to see if I could write a novel in my current situation in life. Work, family, the stuff. I haven't written fiction since 'Magenta Brand of Darkness'. I don't have the time and energy. Or so I say to myself.

Could I make a plot and write a novel which I might try to sell to some publisher? I can always dream but if that's all I do I'll end up with some nice dreams and a blank screen. Or I can wait and see how my life turns out to be in ten or twenty years time - maybe I'll have more time to write later? OR I can go for it and prove to myself that no matter what I can write and get it all done.

I won't know unless I try. Usually I wouldn't. But, NaNoWriMo is an excellent excuse to drive myself to the limits and beyond!

Will I complete the 50k challenge? I'll know by the end of November 30th. But by golly & gosh I'll give it my best shot.

What if I get only 30k words together? Is it a failure? I don't think so. It's 30k words more than I would have otherwise written. In my book (pun almost not intended) that's on the plus side.
14. [ QUOTE ]
50,000 words?

I would enter, but I don't want to limit myself.

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course you are allowed to write 100k words too, or more. Just that when you get to 50k you complete the NaNoWriMo taskforce and gain a nifty badge for it... uh, how's IG not reality...?
15. [ QUOTE ]
Or... he could go by the statue to observe (now WHY he would do that I don't know)

[/ QUOTE ]

I know why he would not, at least not without a pressing reason - the frantic need to avoid Meadow and her nictus. No, Coile isn't very rational about that. Which is too bad as sometimes I have the urge to visit GG. Oh well, I have three plausible alts to throw into game assuming Coile isn't busy with things.

Kit was earlier asking where else but at GG to run into people. This is one way to bump into Coile if so wished.

...maybe someone watching someone else is just too daft an idea to begin with. I'd be hard pressed to recap that.

Burger Queen

Coile spent the entire evening watching Kitmarch stuff her face. Then he grew roots. Papers wrote lots of trash about it all and a few owls lost their woodland habitats.

/e faceplant "Coffeee..."
16. *crys* I can see the headlines:

"Tempest leader on prowl again!"

"Coile & Kitmarch - the new hot thing?"

"Reaction of hero peers: "Shocking!", claims Love Angel."

Maybe I'll use the 5th slot and drape the guy in a hood and cloak and try to pass as incognito Joe Noname.

"Proof of secret affairs! Multiple disguises!"

I can win against Freakshow and Nemesis, but not against the yellow press, I'm afraid.
17. I think I've noticed Pocket D serving also some snacks aside of drinks. If Kit comes by to have a bite there Coile will have the chance to observe... (now WHY he would do that I don't know) Kit eating, assuming he isn't getting abuse from someone about Nightsprrow. Which might be wishing for toomuch as it seems to be the current fad and the favourite pasttime of anyone who knew Sparrow and of quite a few who didn't.
18. Do cats do kung fu and love explosions? This is one special feline we're talking about here.

...errr, has Kitmarch stuffed herself silly to have the extra fat to survive the hibernation? *boggles eyes and then runs like all hell*
19. Oh, and welcome aboard, people. We have a nice gang going already! *and there was lots of wootage*

Would be the first time for me to scribble down things in advance before commencing writing but I try this time around to get done a chapter layout. I'll be using three different timeframes, maybe four, and having even a flimsy structure would help.

One part will tell about Coile's father Zirgei and how the siblings Andre and Andrea came to be. Then there are the early years around which time the powers manifest, and lastly the tragic era of Paragon City. The fourth might deal with Zirgei's father and where he came from. I guess if I end up losing the story at some point I'll let it rest and write about the grandfather. Anything to keep the wordcount climbing.

Gazooks! I'm starting to get excited about this!

I'm already signed up to NaNoWriMo. I'm not doing anything CoX related though, I'm going with swords and sorcery.

Still, good luck!

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey hey, none of that! You're here. You're doing NaNoWriMo. That's enough. No one says the novels should be about CoX world. It's the group of us doing the same thing. That's what counts.

So, if you have the time, please do hang around.
21. NaNoWriMo 2006 - National Novel Writing Month!

Greetings, writers! I am here to present you with a challenge!

As writers we like to write. Duh. We have ambitions. We have dreams. We have wild dreams. Now, own up - who would like to write a novel? Ah-ha! I knew it!

So, what's to stop us from writing those novels? Nothing! It's just, life is busy. Work is stressful. Lots of homework. Family. Kids. Pets. Pals. All we need is time. Like vacation. Then we have time. Except there's trips and plans and stuff to do. So, again, when do we do it? I tell you when!

Starting next week. Oh yes, November 1st is the date that it's time to crack those literature knuckles and start hammering words on the screen. We have entered the NaNoWriMo zone!

The deal here is simple - write a novel of 50000 words during November. That's all.

Why?! Why now? Why 50k words? Why during November? The reason is simple - thousands upon thousands of others are doing the same. Got creative stress? Share it with your peers. While staring at the blank screen and adding a few characters making up a word just know that countless others are doing the exact same thing. They all share the goal - write a novel of 50k words during November!

This what NaNoWriMo is all about. Pushing forward together. Seeking and offering support to like minds and feeling the pressure of time and wordcount on you. 1700 words a day. Write or die. By the end of it you have done it. You have written a novel! I have done it once and let me tell you WHOA what a rush it was! As midnight on 30th November edged closer with less than half an hour to go the last words were typed and the wordcount passed the ever elusive and dreaded treshhold that pains and plagues the writerkind for a whole month each year. That was the year 2003.

This year I will plunge into the madness again. The month long ordeal, the reckless descent into the creative abyss is less than a week away. More caffeine! Less sleep! No house chores! *gasp* Probably less CoH! Bathing is optional! Producing text is mandatory! Yes, I will head into the breach once more and I'm not going alone.

I will drag you with me.

This is the challenge. I'm goIng to do my very best to write 50k words worth of novel during November. It is my dream to achieve something in the span of one month and emerge as a novelist. How about you? Prioritize. For one month let your creative juices flow and your writing govern your rhythm. Join me in this huge endeavour that bears the name of NaNoWriMo.

Who's with me?

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. Your novel won't probably be much good. Mine won't. At the pace we will be going there is no opportunities to second guess the choices that we make. No editing. No removing words. Just let go and write some more. Later on we can go back, edit it all, rewrite the pages and create art. Now we will write a novel.

I hope this thread will be the focal point of our CoH NaNoWriMo writers' chat and escapades for this month of insanity. Comment! Goof around! Be creative! And while doing all that, keep writing writing writing.

I will start a new thread for my work. Daily, or whenever I finish a chunk of text that I feel like posting, I'll submit the last batch of words for public's amusement. Masochism is not required but it goes a long way. Did I mention the expected low quality of this work? I will write a novel with a title 'A for Android' and it will supposedly tell the tale of one Andre Kraft who becomes Coile, one of the many heroes in Paragon City.

What's it all about? NaNoWriMo FAQ Read it, sign up and start the countdown. As next Tuesday turns into Wednesday the keyboards all around the world flare up. The race has begun!

I repeat: who's with me?
22. [ QUOTE ]
Coile! you have too much time on your hands for posting long stuff like that! Looooong!

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I skipped perhaps an hours worth of playtime last night just to finish the bulk of the text. After that I was too lazy to add detail, broaden some bits or indeed proofread that chunk. It was "post it, log in!"

[ QUOTE ]
I won't be tomorrow night so i'll see you Friday for RP.

[/ QUOTE ]

Who did you play again? Was it that Familiar bloke? Or ND-4? Who were you for that matter? I have a faint recollection of something lean and green skitter away with Coile's swimming trunks...

"And if you're very lucky
You'll get your picture in the paper on page three
25 words will summarize how you spent your whole damn life
One day on that page
Next day into the hamster cage"

- Nerf Herder

Friends are people who tolerate you despite of yourself. Friends are people who put up with antics that drive others up the walls. Friends are people who are left after you try to push everyone away. You can choose who you consider as friends but one thing you can't choose and that's who considers you a friend.

A lot can happen in two weeks. You can meet someone. And you can watch that someone die. Whether or not the ending has an impact depends on what took place in-between those two fleeting points in time. This is what happened between Coile and Nightsparrow. Rather, it's one look at it. Hardly the whole truth.

The first contact with the fighting force called Militia occurred when Coile and Sword of Truth met Dragonfly in Pocket D. It was significant because that is how the name 'Militia' was familiar when the next day Coile and Dustine ran into two Militia members outside Dark Astoria gates. The women were Lady Cobra and Nightsparrow. After establishing that there was a common ground to work on they completed a few jobs. During that Nightsparrow acted somewhat coldly and kept a firm distance. Neither of the Tempest heroes pushed the issue at all. Common goals?

During the next days relations advanced slowly. Tempest and Militia mingled forces and carried out simultaneous operations during one night before calling for a break and meeting in Pocket D. Then a day later Nightsparrow came along when Tempest took on a Freakshow conspiracy. Despite a few odd personality clashes it was all still mostly work. That was the last time. Then it all started to become more intense. Silent Tempest and Nightsparrow save the city

A few nights later Nightsparrow came to Pocket D drunk as a skunk and went to talk to Coile and Sword. She said "you look gorgeous" to which Coile agreed - Nadia indeed did look gorgeous. To his shock Nightsparrow turned out to be talking to him. He barely avoided having to go dance with her as she fell down for being just that smashed. The whole incident was written off by all parties as Nightsparrow being intoxicated beyond the ability to act within reason. Not that the event had escaped the notice of some outsiders as it became painfully evident soon enough.

The next night there was another run-in, and again in Pocket D. Suddenly Nightsparrow became incredibly frantic and bolted away like shot from a particle cannon. She headed straight to the villain end of the interdimensional bar and started a shouting spree at a goat headed being who seemed to just shrug off the verbal abuse. Nadia had stayed behind on hero side. Coile and Dustine followed the screaming for a while but left soon Nightsparrow and Lady Cobra with the goat head and his entourage. After some time the dust settled and the agitated Militia members scuffled back to the blue side.

One could argue that if someone is already fuming mad and irked to the max it won't spoil their night too much if you start verbally slugging them at that point. It would just spoil two nights if done later. Does this sound like anything that someone else but a complete jerk would do? Be that as it may this was the moment Coile decided to resume the conversation about ethics, killing villains and killing the Rikti. Nightsparrow was just as delighted of this subject that one could expect and the shouting match resumed. At one point the other was accusing the other to be a murderer and it is doubtful that neither was feeling particularly super at the time. All that and the incident made it to the papers too, with rumours about a secret love affair between the two of them. More ruckus in Pocket D

Silent Tempest has rarely made it to papers, and never with a picture. Not to Coile's knowledge at least which to be honest isn't widely regarded as the spitting image of accuracy anyway. Now with Militia all that had changed. It was as if the superpowered group led by someone named the Minister was a magnet for reporters and paparazzi alike. There was coverage for a few heroic deeds that Tempest did. There was coverage about a few details of private nature. And there were wild rumours straight from the mill freshly smelling of yellow paper manure. The Paragon Inquirer published a story about the alledged love affair which almost caused Coile a few burst frontlobe veins. Coile and Nightsparrow in hot secret affair! With juicy bits!

During all the shouting, yelling, fingerpointing and drunken misconduct a strange kind of friendship was forming. Nightsparrow was obsessed with the goat headed being who was called Grim Shade. She had lost her family to that monster five years ago and suffered from abominable nightmares ever since. It also came to light that Grim Shade was holding captive Nightsparrow's friend Keening Banshee. For some reason this resonated with Coile and he decided to do something about that. Talk about the deep end nogt checking if there was any water in the pool. The mad spiral towards catastrophic disaster had begun.

Before long Coile met Grim Shade's accomplice who her referred to as the grinning girl but who was later frevealed to bore amongst others the name Grinning Nightmare. She had taken Nightsparrow's dreams as her territory and shaped them to create massively bad dreams as well as driving the poor girl to mayhem, wanton killing and also towards the inevitable self destruction. Sparrow herself knew where she was headed to and wanted to avoid taking anyone along. Both Coile and Lady Cobra had made up their own minds about saving the doomed heroine. This in mind Coile tried to strike a deal with two devils at once. He almost did too but Subaiku stopped him from committing utter follies.

At that point it all had already escalated too far. Grim Shade had marked Rakila as a target. Samuel 'Freight Train' Blayne had become entangled with the mess. When all this was shoved on Nightsparrow's lap the point of no return was passed without anyone noticing. The late night situation analysis meeting ended with Sparrow telling to Coile that he couldn't watch her 24/7 and then she left. That was the last time Coile saw her alive.

Subaiku altered her dreaming wards slightly to allow Rakila to rest safe from the horrible powers of Grim Shade and Grinning Nightmare. Coile and Sam were simply instructed not to sleep. Coile went to look for Sword who was scavenging the Rikti crash site war archives in a faint hope of finding Crey's Revenant Hero dna database location. Drawing a blank Coile found his way to Sam's place where the two of them played videogames until middle morning. Then Subaiku arrived and allowed both a chance to sleep for a few hours with her keeping guard against malevolent dreams.

That night Sam caught Coile just as he was dashing off to do some investigation with Sword and Dustine. On his PDA he had a newsclip from earlier - the final moments of Nightsparrow. Obviously she had come to a conclusion that the only way to keep stupid people calling her a friend from getting hurt by Grim Shade was to confront him for one final time. The clash occurred on a roof in Siren's Call. It ended with the top five stories blowing up. On his way from Kings Row to SKyway City where his teammates were already waiting the reality sunk in - Nightsparrow had died. When he got off the train the trails of tears were evident. This seemd to shock Sword far more than the fact that Sparrow had ceased to be. The death of Nightsparrow

Apparently many people beside the trash press had been wondering if there was something going on between Coile and Sparrow. And even libelous articles with half truths were based on something actual. Nadia started to question whether there was some basis for all the rumours and whisperings. Coile denied it all. He also said that thinking that Nightsparrow had felt anything towards him was stupid and not founded on realities. Nadia had her own view.

To add insult to injury the Silent Tempest soon met Keening Banshee who was supposedly held by Grim Shade. The woman whom Coile had decided to free had escaped on her own and from a different warden to whom Grim Shade had tranferred her to. Coile's meddling with affairs bigger than he had born no fruit and had cause the status quo to destabilize enough for a woman to rush to her doom.

Some believed that Nightsparrow had prepared for the fight and perhaps teleported away. Some believed that she was dead. Some believed that something would have happened between Coile and Sparrow before long. Matters of belief remain so until proven right or wrong. If Sparrow is deceased some questions will remain unanswered until the end of time. But should she turn out to be alive certain questions will be asked again and before long answers will be plain to see.

Of course as with any presentation things have been omitted such as Coile and Lady Cobra discussing at lenght how to handle the Rikti menace and Cobra confiding to Coile with a few sensitive things. Also, she has her daughter missing. Has Coile learned not to meddle with things that he does not fully comprehend? Or will he press on and try to get Cobra's daughter back? The coming weeks will no doubt reveal many a fascinating things.
25. You can easily knock down a skyscraper in Steel Canyon. There are enough of those big towers so it can be said that one fell down. There just has to be more houses IC than the game shows us. Frag one of the invisible ones.

Nuking the city hall would be hard since people will see that it is there. As a rule go for targets that people can imagine without visible game world going directly against it and then just have a ball.

What happens out there is life. In life people die. Superpowered dudes slugging it out in mtropolitan area can cause plenty of casualties along the way. Tough. If you feel like it you can put a disclaimer in your story warning people about the stuff you think might realistically offend someone.

One nifty way of bringing an event more upfront for others to react is to write maybe an IC newspiece or just recap the events where others can see it. A while ago there was a nightmare storm in Ziggurat due to events taking place IG. I wrote a column commenting it and now people know it took place. Folks can of course think that "no it didn't", that's perfectly within their rights. However some will take it as IC and maybe mingle with the event, creating more events.
