Unfortunately Cap, you've missed the sign up dates. Doesn't mean you can't do it independantly I guess!
[/ QUOTE ]
For some reason when I was translating NaNoWriMo rules to Finnish three years back I got this same impression, which is in fact wrong. You can sign up at any point during November, even on the last day.
So Cap, keep those ideas churning and then lash them out on a keyboard. Join the fray and fight for those daily quotas! -

- x3 Bonus points if your character ends up in an intimate situation with your story's main character.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seeing how my character is also the main protagonist it would contain a solo act, so to say. Then again, I wrote that into my last NaNo piece so why not now?
Fine.
Dare accepted. -
Gah! I got some 300 words in. Then I had to go get winter tyres on as it's snow, ice and slush all around starting from yesterday. I continued until 800 words and realized I don't want to start with WWII after all.
I nipped a bit to IG and the small slice of IC hunt had a nasty and surprising development right when I had to log. Maybe I'll get a sentence or two out of that...
Depending on the way to countI have either 800 or 0 right now. Sheesh.
Oh, about the editor - shoot him. He should next show his ugly mug on 1st December, earliest. -
Thanks, Cobra! Appreciated!
If you have further time, other relevant dates would be good too, as in 1st Grim Shade encounter, date of when Inquirer had its fun, when did Nightsparrow have her rumble in Siren's... you know, stuff like that.
Oh and don't forget to list all those midnight strolls and steamy encounters between patrols, or giving birth to the daughter who was conceived and delivered in less than a week. *shakes fist at yellow papers* -
Went IG, learned that a teammate was missing, gathered team, went and found her. Then Coile's wife's recurring issue got to be the topic again and seeing the bad entangled mess turning into a more horrible situation lasted until 5 am. Two hours later up (that was 30 mins ago), zerglings out of the house, heading to work...
0 words so far.
I've has snappier starts.
Maybe the lack of sleep will later on produce some interesting fiction. Which is pretty much mandatory for me to survive this month at all. -
Welcome aboard, all new folks!
Excited: check!
Unprepared: check!
Coffee: ...uh, be right back...
1 hour, 13 minutes. Oh my. Here we go. -
Less than three hours to go. Zerglings are sleeping. Game is launching. AT some point I'll go and brew a fresh pot of black gold and get the empty document open.
I guess I'll start with the grandfather. World War II. Storm Korps. -
I'm taking part in NaNoWriMo (see CLICKY) and I've run into a bit of a problem. I've already asked for assistance from a smaller crowd but this here reaches more people who could give a hand.
I've tried to compile even a flimsy timeline about stuff. I have my own recaps to go through. And all the stuff that I haven't recapped, or at least with dates.
Here I ask for help. Be it fifty entries, or just one, no matter how relevant or irrelevant you think it is, could you folks please post dates and events that have to do with Coile or that directly affect him? The format I've used for simplicity:
2006:
* 5.5. The Silent Tempest is formed officially.
* 12.6. Coile meets Nut the second time.
* 23.6. Nadia is lost in the snow.
* 2.8. Andre goes to rescue Nadia.
* 9.8. Requiem falls
The kind of stuff that would be useful, stuff that I could scavenge with time but now find myself not having, include:
When did Coile arrive to Paragon City? (same date was a big beach party, 1st appearance of Pyranha)
When did we first meet Sword? (1st appearance of Sword of Truth)
When did Coila go missing and Nut helped us? (1st appearance of Nut)
When was the second beach party where Andre was a huge jerk?
When did Rakila, Inhilde or Phiseeque pop up?
When did Star Crusader and Dawn join?
When did the Requiem plot start with the first roll call?
When did Requiem's forces invade all hazard zones and more?
When did Coile adventure on Croatoa?
When did we meet Nightsparrow and Lady Cobra?
When did we form an alliance with FA and when was it brought to an end?
...and so on.
Most likely during writing some events will get chronologically misplaced. During November I won't much care, during December I hope to hammer them out. The less there are, the better.
Thanks in advance for those who can help with the nasty time tidbits. -
The NaNo rules state that the novel must be written on November, from begin to end.
"I have a lot to do in November. Can I start in October and end early?
No. One of the best things about NaNoWriMo is the way it spreads the agony of creation throughout a large community of co-sufferers. For the pain to be properly distributed (and thereby diminished), all participants must be working on the same deadline."
Then again, nothing prevents from creating the scenes in the head in advance and then just typing out the words. ...if only it was that easy...
Less than 9 hours to go. I don't even know if I should write in chronological order, or skip between present day and past. -
It's snowing here. And I don't mean just a little. The forecasted 20 cm may well happen.
Seeing how Andre (Coile) comes from North Dakota I just might have something to write about. -
So! When will you start writing? Are you sitting by your computer watching the last seconds tick away and exactly at midnight strike the first character of your novel onto the screen?
Or will you play the game, have fun and in the morning pounce at work like a frantic cheetah?
I suspect I will be playing, maybe having another comp nearby for writing if the pace let's me.
HUUUU! 13 hours for me! 5 mins shy at that! The timeline is in shambles! ARGH! -

Maybe if she did that to her friends by accident will she learn a valuable lesson

No peeking at the plot in advance!*shakes fist*
Eh, I mean, good to have Pyr and Inny back when they do, business as usual, nothing weird going on.
Oh well, I guess it's time to schedule the judgment thingy with concerned parties and have it done. -
Oh, by the by, my screen name at NaNo site is Khuure. Feel free to tag.

Just say the word
Two, three weeks ago Winter met with Spellsong in Pocket D and they talked for a good while about magic and power words. Spellsong put Winter through three tests of which she passed two. The conclusion was that there was some natural aptitude towards magic in Winter which explained her performance with the ring that she had for an hour.
Since then Winter has stayed cooped up in a place with her mother. As Pyranha and Kyo are in Japan (to Winter's knowledge) she took over the apartment in Steel Canyon. Having nothing else to do she has spent good fifteen hours a day memorizing all the power words in the books that Spellsong has been supplying her with. Having always been a reader the amount of words that have been committed to her memory is starting to be sizeable.
Now, what would happen if one takes the lyrics of, say, HIM or 69 Eyes songs and starts converting them into power words? And singing in the shower? -
If Winter loses ONE Tori Amos cd due to Pyr goofing around the history she will *not* be pleased! That on the top of Pyr no doubt forgetting the Totoro doll that Winter asked for.
Great, now I'm scared too. -
Thanks man Mr. Bridger sir. Much oblidged.
I'd have pie but gotta fly and collect zerglings from daycare. -

fun on the Rogue Isles
[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't that an oxymoron?
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a nasty feeling that some fun will be had about Coile's clever 'porn star' moustache disguise.
Should be interesting, since this is my first venture to the villain side of things. Aside from last night's short ToT spree to get the necessary salvage. -

whats everyones title for the book
[/ QUOTE ]
The tentative title is A for Android and it might even be the final word, but usually the title of a story is something I come up with last so it may turn out to be something else altogether when November is at an end. -
What's to stop people from signing up, spitting at the ceiling the whole month and just claiming that they wrote anything?
Nothing.
If someone wishes to cheat, they do, and won't get caught. -
I hate to RTFM but just by glancing at the prog it doesn't immediately open up. I may end up using a word processor and keep yWriter for some other project "when I have the time".
Less than two days to go. Maybe I should start a timeline... My last NaNo novel was blown out of sky because of a mangled timeline which twisted more and more as weeks flashed by. -

Chi tried to offer some brotherly advice but Coile was reluctant to even consider his advice. ('Flirt back? Nadia would kill me' might not have been his exact words, the expression was terrified enough.)
[/ QUOTE ]
What we need is Beccy back. She once boosted Coile's confidence and that lead to many interesting developments. For a few hours the shyness and awkward embarrassment were gone. It was interesting to say the least. -

I ment from our point of view. We thought she was dead and there was much sadness. Then we found out she wasn't and there was much rejoicing. But of course she never really was dead.
[/ QUOTE ]
Late comment as I couldn't post earlier...
Actually, as the idea didn't come from me I also thought she (Sword) was dead
[/ QUOTE ]
And as I lost the track of things once the story "Touch the Sky" where Sword seemingly died was written, I thought it possible that Sword was dead. Weeks passed and I became more convinced of it all the time.
I guess it then really was Doc T making it so that she was alive after all. That happened after the "Magenta Brand of Darkness" where I make it look like Coile dies. That is because it was what I at the time believed had happened. A dart zapped Coile and world went black. That was played over MSN and as I had the game on I said there "game over" signaling that Coile had come to an end. That lasted for maybe just a few seconds until Doc asked when I would be available to play out the escape scenario of Coile and Sword. WTH?!? Coile wasn't dead? ...Hey, Sword is alive?!
That was a good run. -

Ground Zero by Jiffy Blakes
"She blew up my home!"
Last Sunday a tragedy occurred. No doubt several took place but I will discuss one in particular. As usual people are drawn to matters which make news, not necessarily to matters that matter. The event I will discuss made news.
A lone hero met with a lone villain on the rooftop of Triton Tower in Siren's Call. They fought as a newshelicopter caught the action on tape and on the tape was caught also the end where the top five floors were engulfed in flames as a large scale detonation rocked the surrounding areas.
Police reports have so far indicated that there were explosives planted into the building. The detonation was planned. The current theory is that the hero mined the place in order to kill her opponent as well as herself.
I will not mention their names. I will not talk about their affiliations to supergroups or to persons. In fact their personal lives don't interest me one bit although in that regard it feels I am alone. I'm talking about priciples here and mixing names in would give the event a face. For those with a low brow interests and hunger for trash there is enough yellow press floating around among the sewage.
A building was destroyed deliberately in the name of stopping a mass murderer. I will bet my annual income that no thought was given about the building in question. Siren's Call has been evacuated for two years since Sunburst died washing the neighbourhood with radiation and fallout. Since then the zone has been partially opened for clean-up. The big idea is to make Siren's Call habitable again. For the former residents to return to their homes.
The house that is now more in ruins than standing was a home to people. Their dreams of resuming their lives where they had lived in some cases for decades went out in a hail of rubble as Triton Tower's top rained around the landscape. Someone made a call and these people's lives changed irrevocably.
Accidents happen. Some people disagree but I believe that when superpowered beings are involved it is realistic to expect occasional collateral damage. It is part of life. The pinnacle of this line of thinking is Sunburst's demise and the destruction of Siren's Call. The difference between the events two years ago and last Sunday were that the recent incident was carried out with forethought. It was no mishap.
That is a way I can not condone. Wanton destruction belongs to the villains, not to heroes. Their purpose is to protect us from those who give no regard to common decency, not to commit to the follies of their enemies. Ends do not justify the means.
This is a reminder to all the heroes who carry on serving and protecting us as their license mandates - consider the repercussions of your actions. You are responsible for harnessing a tremendous amount of power and it should not be misused. Don't let your call for truth and thirst for justice blind you from the big picture.
If you can't deal with it, the ferry to Rogue Isles leaves tonight. I can cough up the dough for a one way fare. -

You're on. I shall only be using MS Paint and a lack of any real skill, but with each picture, will be Max's progress from 1-50.
[/ QUOTE ]
Max, did I get this right? You have less than 30 days available and you are taking part in both novel writing AND in the picture challenge?
The mind boggles!
Good luck!
(Well, in fact, good luck to you all. Will be interesting to see all those series of 50 pics by the end of the November!) -
I'm throwing in an initiative. It's based on the feeling I got from reading Ringy's post.
I will go over this thread and read my messages. If I now regret posting it, or think that it was plain needless, or stupid, or provocative, or not contributing (including my posts concerning whether or not this thread is needed), then I will write down the message numbers. I will email the moderator and ask for them to be removed as I cannot do that myself.
The message number is just above the actual text you typed and the line reads something like:

The moderators that you can contact are amboss@ncsoft.com and bridger@ncsoft.com
Well, that is what I will do. If you folks see any sense in this, join the effort. Pick the posts that you made and now would like to see removed, and ask for moderator help.
Thank you.
