*Flashback to first toon at level 33 spamming desperate plea's in Perez Park* -
Alll good stuff.. Can i ask a few q / make a few comments.
1. 7-9pmp? might intefere with a lot of dinners? Certainly would for me. Might not 8-10pm be a better choice as it allows people to come home from work, sling a pizza in the oven and have a cursory chat with family before settling down?
2. Regarding AT. I wouldnt mind doing a Kheldian AT if thats ok. Might be a challenge to RP. Otherwise Ill do a tank or defender (might even delete my lvl 24 tank to restart from lvl 1) Whats the opinion on this?
3. Any chance of doing a similar project for CoV? Im finding it reaaly hard to do RP as a CoV'er as it can be misintepreted too easily. More need for CoV type thingymajig if you ask me. Would anyone be interested in starting up a parallel group Tuesday 8-10pm, maybe after issue 7?
4. Keep a slot for me!
Top Idea btw! Looking foward to it. I hope the focus will be more on fun and RP than crunching levels as fast as possible. Having said that - lets make sure we get spelunker badge heh? -
But do you need to AVOID any powersets to win
-
I dont think there is any one particular point it suddenly tips into being essential.
Id say by mid teens it look attractive, but 20s it becomes extremely tasty, and by 30s it becomes indespensible.
Both my icers had it by mid teens to be honest, but I could see delaying til 20s as reasonable. -

Wow, these threads still going eh - Right click > Info > Check archetype. Does it say Tanker? Well, it's a Tanker then. How said Tanker chooses to play is up to the Tanker and the Tanker alone, he is, always has, and always will be, a Tanker.

True.
Maybe we need a word for a character who can hold aggro properly then? -
I played cyberskin, my rad/elec, to level 50. I wont post build, although I am contemplating a guide for this combo
A few points:
Must haves:
RI (3 tohit debuff, 3 def debuff)
EV (3 end red)
LR (slot how you want but at least 1 acc)
Nearly must haves
Telsa Cage (3 hold, 1-2 acc, 1-2 recharge)
Short circuit (3 end mods, 1 acc, 0-2 recharge)
If you are playing a more melee type style (and if you a going to get short circuit and choking cloud I guess you are), I strongly recommend acrobatics. Rad/Elec is aggro +++ and unless you have debuffed your enemies you is gonna be deeeeed. Held = debuffs go = dead.
Fallout is maligned. I wouldnt get it till 40s tho, if at all, and if you are getting it, recall freind is helpful. When you are fighting all those pesky AVs, fallout + mutate is a significant tide swinger. People knock fallout cos its damage is rather unspectacular, but I think forget its debuff is really very tasty.
Finally, the biggest mistake I ever made with cyber' was getting thunderous strike. Never get anything with knockback... ever(and it is knockback, not knockdown/up no matter what the text says).
If interest is there Ill post guide. I found rad/elec a VERY fun, offendery and yet defendery set. To be honest, i never saw the deal with the secondary effect of rad if you are rad/rad - your primary is debuffing defence quite enough without additional effects from rad secondary but hey ho. -

Er... true....
Sound aswell tho -

Firstly, I, very suprised at the figures quoted above - troller powers are meant to be 80% or thereabouts of defenders - so either there is a bug, the devs have been very misleading, or the figures are wrong. Unless anyone has actually tested the above, im inclined to the latter explanation.
However, Im not using the single target shields. Sonic Siphon means about +20% damage against the target which is highly useful vs Avs/EBs/Bosses. Sonic dispersion field is most useful for mez resistance but as noted above pretty similar to the FF version.
Snoic disruption field no one understands but is immensily helpful with a tank... a good tank will help make mincemeat of clustered mobs with this on him/her.
I find sonic a very helpful powerful set. Admittedly forcefield probably gives the edge in defence, now that scaling defence is nigh, but the -res debuff effect of sonic is what cuts it for me. And clarity power at level 35 is going to be very popular vs those Malta - I mean, at mid 30s+, I found clarity the most lovely power of the whole empath set
I understand the only really gazumped power is liquefy, but Im taking it as I want more control
I tried a grav/ff up to lvl 14 or so, but I prefer my grav/sonic. I have a better concept, more solo-ability, and I wider range of good powers in the sonic set. Forcefield does give more protection, but less mez resistance (clarity) and no debuff has been my experience. -
Make sure if you have taunt you put it in your search description. When I do I get iinvites much quicker!
-
Agree with all of that
I would say however that all players shouldnt automatically use all powers. For instance, a stormy defender/troller should not go spamming gale / tornado on enemies clustered around an ice tanks ice slick, a stone tank, or a mob bathing around radation/dark. Lots of other combiinations of course but I use your example.
In such circumstances, best to focus on snow storm debuffery, blasting, etc, or teach a team to try and pack 'em into a corner for total destruction
The reason empaths get a good name is that teams need very little work to make empath set work. I still say that, conversely, a very tight team can make good use of other sets so much so that the other sets actually outshine empaths. But thats just my impression - and the team does have to be very good. -

totally agree, and after all, its only one power, wouldnt hurt to have it in there even if you dont want it all the time.

Thats the real rub for me. An auto hit power, rapid recharge, and zero end cost. How many great powers come with that?
And its one power - only one. Im sure most builds can fit that in by the mid 20s.
Its gonna spell the end of fire blasters this tauntless trend! If you see one, take a screen shot, cos they are endangered! -
So is any defender.
I just find it more challenging to ensure mobs are clustered around debuffs from sonic/rad/dark, or continually knockbacked from storm/force fields, etc.
Gives the team more to do and think about it. And if its done well, pays huge dividends. -

Probably because empaths are so common they bore the socks of me.

I'll have you know when I'm playing my empath I can be very witty and often relate some rather humerous anecdotes.
Far from boring

Empath SET is boring, not EMPATH players -
Well Im kinda assuming a tank will have AoE taunt, or really hes not worth teaming with at all to be honest (*em/duck).
I have resigned myself now to the fact that the standard of tanking is pretty rubbish. Guess its time to play those single target only scrappers/defenders/controllers/blasters...
Hey, maybe the reason tanks dont take taunt is cos they cant survive all the aggo... now that all other toons are taking cowardly single target effects? -
If you have taunt you are currently in the top 10% of all tanks so I wouldnt worry to much.
I was in a lvl 35 team yesterday. 6 man team, 3 tanks. None of the tanks had taunt. The non tanks face planted on a regular basis. And both I and the other two non-tanks were pretty experienced players.
Currently, the standard of tanking is so low, that you will probably shine. Its not hard to shine in manure.
Ona more serious note, there are two basic strategies:
1. Jump into the centre of the mob, hit an AoE attack, and taunt anymobs you have missed.
2. Get rest of team out of line of sight, taunt, run round the corner, wait for them to all pile into your AoE taunt in a lovely cluster.
If you have a debuffer (rad/dark particularly), playing tactic 2 and getting all mob debuffed is practically god mode. -

empaths are overrestimated..if an empath is healing good they are almost demanding for compliments>.>..if a scrapper is scrapping good or a kin is buffing his [censored] of while sapping the enemies people won't say anything about it:P..
I think empaths are just like tanks..you don't REALLY need em but it can speed up things a lot..
but if I see that I need to give away a lot of xp cause i need a sk and the lower lvl empath doesn't it does my head in:P...they are just overrestimated/appreciated...
[/ QUOTE ]
They are certainly no better than any other defender, just more visible, and better at patching up bad teams.
To be honest, I have more fun without empaths in teams - not necessarily better, just more fun. Probably because empaths are so common they bore the socks of me. -
eeeeek
thankyou everyone for completely putting me off a da scrap -
Bah!
Well guess that rules out dark armour for me. Much as the set looks fun, I dont fancy playing Genericdarkblob128! -
QId like to try this combo... Quite like the fire damage/oil slick combination.
Regarding Smoke/Flash Arrow. Im pretty sure the accuracy debuff would stack. Would the -perception element? -
Eeeek...
Well looks like project claws/dark replaced by claws/SR then....
Hellfire its hard to get a good team based scrapper build -
Hmmm how about identical costumes, identical names (with full stop in one part of the name e.g.
X...X..X...X
X..X...X...X
X...X...X..X)
and "invisible" type powers? -
Bah thats not much fun at all...
How about without cloack of darkness (not going the stealth route)? -
Im thinking of rolling a dark armour scrapper because I want to try a team-based scrapper and It seems to me with a damage aura, and 2 AoE control type powers, dark armour fits the bill.
However, Im very concerned that even with murky cloud and the first shield Im turning into a black wisp...
Any high level DA scrappers... do you (as I suspect) just turn into a ball of darkness once three or four (or more) armours are running?
