Could someone post a recap of the names here, the alts in the Militia and their archetypes / sets / origins, just for my reference?
*looks at Battleflag*
PS would people mind doing a VERY breif bio for their ID just so I can refresh my memory (it wont sink in for a couple of weeks!) -
Astra here...
Havent felt so much like a superhero since the day I bought the gamenice work all.
On a technical point (sorry to be boring), as game progresses both booster and I havd debuff powers based around anchors. I find the tactic of confusing the anchor and then basing debuffs around him (her) works very well.
In order to be effective, we may need to have a bind to identify to the team what target is confused / is anchor for debuffs, so rest of team leave that target till last. Any ideas how this could be done with minimal anoyance / keeping in RP?
Thanks for great night guys, sorry i missed an hour of it!
Particular thanks to Brother Tchall... creepy! -
Dont forget the mighty 1% defence of Wet Ice against everything!
-
7-9 Is a rather poor choice tbh - most people would be eating around this time (myself included so I dont know how Im going to work around it).
I would strongly recommend 8-10, I for one would fine this a LOT easier, and I suspect many other people would to.
Think of the food, man! -
COuld do either, Pious? both Mind/Storm troller and Storm/Psionic defender fit the bill about equally. So its up to team preference. Mind will add a LOT more control, whereas Defender will marginally add to defence due to better debuffing and better bonuses from leadership pool.
Also, Astra is a blokesee militia thread!

Top work everyone. All the skeletons on which to build more flesh! -
1978: A seven year old child, Lucien Law is on a camping trip with his parents in Canada. It is his birthday treat, the night of August the 8th. Overnight, the weather turns. The skies open, the winds roar, no stars can be seen admist the black clouds. The only illumination comes from the sheets of lightning that scour the ground. It is these primeval forces that kill his parents, and send the young boy into a night of terror that few can ever comprehend.
1982: The young Lucien, now 10 is plauged every night by nightmares of the events of that night, he is sent to many psychiatrists, and becomes deeply disturbed. Even in the caring environment of children psychiatric wards he is a loner, and cowers from the sky. His solace is reading and chess, his only way of escape from the fears that plague him.
1988: The dread day: 08/08/88. Lucien is now seventeen and has read much on psychology, Jungian theory, and absorbend much of the wisdom of the world for his age. Yet this day sends a metaphysical dread through his spine. But something in him snaps. He goes wild with dread, and his doctors are called. The very room he is in is filled with fog, and winds storm the room. His feelings of anguish invade the minds of all nearby, who experience his dread and fear. Lucien, it seems is a mutant.
1995: Lucien is now a travelled man. He is meditating in a Buddhist retreat in Tibet. Could it be he has come to master his fears, rather than they master him?. The temple is raided by Chinese militia, but when they come to see Lucien, some dread fills them. Can Lucien in fact do more than just master his fears?
2006: Now 34, Lucien has travelled the world. Calm, steady, and wise, he has done so much more than merely master his dread. He can use it. He has a mutant ability of great empathic skill - he can sense and manipulate the emotions of others, to exagerate their pain and fear, and even to inspire and focus them to greater acheivements. But most astoundingly, Lucien can actually cause events of great emotional turmoil to physically manifest themselves. He has but to recall his fear, accept it, and then master it, for those dreadfull events to once again manifest.
Lucien has become Astraphobia, the fear of storms. Fear is now his quest. To conquer the fears of the innocent, and to turn the fears of the guilty upon themselves. This is karma, for it is fear that shall separate the true and strong from the false and weak.
And so onto Atlas Park, in Paragorn City, surely the capital of terror, strolls a man who inspires either unease or courage. Dressed in dread clothes of black, Astraphobia is either a dream of serenity and wisdom, or a Nightmare of pain and terror.
Has he chosen the militia, or the militia chosen him. Something about them has resonated with his own morals. Was it his uncanny emotional attunement, or perhaps even the subtle ways in which he can manipulate the emotions of others.
Nevertheless, villians have a new fear. Fear itself. -
Final choice folks - I can choose a variety of toons to play - my dilema is I often dont know if I will like them until I have played a few levels:
Im allocated to Team B, and gonna play Astraohobia (origin as above and on the origin board).
Either:
Mind/Storm troller
Storm/Defender troller (my preffred)
Illusion/Storm troller
What do people reckon?
BTW does anyone know what damage does to a "feared" toon? I think it doesnt do anything but does it ?wake them?
I hope to be there - RL permitting! -
Eeeeek not a Ma/Regen - the king of solo'ers! all single target attacks and a secondary entirely devoted to the self!
Go on, treat yourself to a team based scrapper! -
Im not knocking scrappers. I just have a fairly simple rule of thumb - as team gets bigger AoE > single target. Scrappers do relatively badly out of this formula, but you have to look at sets too - I view spines scrappers as more valuable in a big team than ice blasters for instance.
Ultimately, since scrappers are the most solo-freindly class, they are the least team freindly - not that I they are bad, its just not what there focus is. I once had the pleasure of ripping through +3/+4 mobs in the hollows like butter with six radiation defenders for instance. When enemies hit you 5% of the time for 5% of their damage and you hit them 95% of the time with +100% damage against enemies with no resistance, the world is your oyster -
On reflection, in order to up the damage, I can play Astra as a storm/psionic defender. This will up the damage inficlicted directly, the assault/tactics buff, and the defence/damage resist debuff which should make things much more focused in terms of damage?
Also means I dont have to take gale!
I can play either way, so let me know... I would think defender option more damage heavy, but it might depend on if we fill last few slots. -

As regards the rest of the team I'd say we're looking for Firstly scrappers and tankers with blasters needed least(the aggresive nature of defs and trollers could make up for this...I think). Agreed? We seem to be pretty good for healing but lowish on damage.

Blasters > Scrappers > Tankers - Def.
In Teams, Scrappers are progressively less valuable as they are solo focussed (some sets have more AoE than others of course). Id say we are looking for blasters first def. In fact, its probably best to have a debuff defender with leadership pool than it is to have a scrapper. And tankers will not be particularly helpful damage wise. -

Cognito- Astrophobia is the fear of celestrial bodies and stars, Astraphobia is the fear of storms and lighting( just to help with the name not knocking it, just thought u wanted the name to be as ur character description is "projecting her/his fear of storms, so a mind/storm troller".)
[/ QUOTE ]
Typo! -
If you are worried about lack of damage, then it depends on support class. Personally, Astro is taking assault + tactics, and will be debuffing damage resistance / defence, so although wont personally be doing a lot of damage (although mind control can be nasty damage wise), will add a lot to damage output.
Depends on defenders / trollers. If enough take assault / tactics pool and can buff/debuff enough, this will add a lot to damage. Empaths not the best at buff/debuff damage tho, so really depends on the sets.
I think we should flesh out teams by +2 each tho, seeing as we should anticipate 10-30% non attendence each week due to commitments / illness/ holidays etc. -
Or go psionic, like me: Scared of opening up with a debuff? Well sleep em first!
And nothing like the joy of psionic armour when fighting carnies
Although I would have to concede Thuinderstrike is more fun than electric fence! -
Thunderstrike? for a rad? are you mad?
Ok you nice bunch of clustered debuffed fools - witness my THUNDERSTIKE!
Debuffed fools ---> Fly in all directions ----> Not debuffed and angry enemies ----> ooops!
I never used fallout for damage tbh. It was very helpful fighting the AVs 40-50. Someone dies - teleport em to AVs feet, fallout, DEBUFF ++++
And given the boost to AVs, debuffs are going to be highly valuable and the more the better (and you are going to start seeing people drop at AVs feet a LOT more)
Dont rate fallout by damage alone. Its a debuff first and foremost. -
Im going to play Astrophobia (Mind/Storm troller) if thats ok with evertone.
Id suggest due to interest there are two teams of 8? ie a SG of 16? we could always play two teams bit of mixy matchy. Bear in mind not everyone can be there every week -
But its all illusion and perception isnt it!
EMpaths / Heals: Ooooh look at my health bar going up - empath you have saved the day! ooooh look at all the pretty green numbers floating above my head - empath you are teh uber!
Forcefielders/Sonicers: Hey, mr. bubbler you are teh suck! look at me, I am teh uber, Im pwnzing these goons, teh cant even touch me!
Rad / Dark /TA: Hey dont bother telling me who teh anchor is, I am pwnzing these guys! look how fast I am killing them, I am teh uber! you suck!
Storm: Hey your heals are teh suck! are u H38lo4 or what? u r teh leech, watch me pwnz these guys, I am teh uber, they are so Sloooow compared to me!
etc etc -
Thanks for the help chaps.
I am a bit concerned about RP'ing a kheldian to be honest. I dontthink I can infuse it with enough personality.
TO my mind then, its between a claws/dark scrapper (as above) although the RPing a female thing is a bit tricky (even if I play her butch!), or the mind/storm controller which sounds fun to RP. Ive been pen and papering the build for the latter and it looks really tough to get whole concept in. Basically Ill have to skip travel powers (which dont fit with his concept anyway) - does anyone object to this / can help out? -
Aaaaaaargh I cant decide what concept to play... Advice appreciated:
4 working themes:
A (all human) peacebringer, philosopher type who ponders over his identity and the nature of "self". My concern is how easy is it to roleplay an alien?
A mind/storm controller or storm/psi defender who has empathic abilities to control and manifest fear. His own personal phobia is storms, and thus he can manifest these powers. I like this idea and concept, but the build is very very tight
A tech fire/mace tanker "Hephastion". A disabled genuis metallurgist has constructed a metal capable of withstanding and channeling superhot temperatures. He models himself after Hephasteus, greek god of metallurgy. I also like this concept, but might be a bit "gimped", and I suppose will have to take acrobatics which doesnt fit into concept.
Lastly, a claws/dark scrapper. Descendent of a middle ages witch who was unjustly tortured and killed by the "inquisition". The witch swore on oath of justice (that it be used correctly) and all the descendants have the power to summon the spirit/death of the original - including the blades of her totrurer. Again, I like this concept but it kinda dictates a female superhero, and I dont know how easy it is to RP a female (being male myself).
Any comments on what would be useful to team, and fun to play? -
Are we meeting in Atlas at level 1, or Outbreak at level 1?
Regarding Toons: I have a rather nice Mind/Storm troller idea I would like to try out, but build is very tight to get all my concept in. Do you think its possible to skip a travel power (if we have a freindly Peacebringer / Teleported / Kineticist in team?)
Nice on with the pre-arranged SG - I think we should go with that -
7pm - 9pm may be akward but I see what I can do
I would suggest it would be highly valuable to create a SG from scratch, as we can post messages and keep track of each others levels. If you want, I can use a higher level alt to start of the SG, invite you all, then log on as my RP toon (and you invite him).
Dont care anything about leadership / etc. Its just a practical way we can track our levels and membership so things dont get too out of keel. -
I have a rule of thumb (which I break every now an again
)
If a team ever askes me if I am a healer, or if I heal, I won't join.
If a team ever says "we need a healer", it's make exuses at end of mission.
ONly rules of thumb, but they keep my debt down.
And to be honest, I always have more fun in a team with no healers - Ive never found the whole "Heal" thing really fit with superhero / comic book lore. -
Dont mind either way... both got advantages...
Something quite appeals about doing it from level 1, as complete "New" heroes... fresh out of the radation chamber / laboratory / martial art school etc
