  1. Having become a little bored of my mercs/ff mastermind at the grand old level of 33, Im going to roll a thugs/poison.

Bearing in mind Im not going to get any attacks, but will run assault and tactics, Is stamina needed/helpful?

Im asking because im debating how much end cost the poison set has... and I wont have a whole hill of slots to shimmy shammy around on end reducers...

Looks to me there's a spot saved for you Cognito, on one of the teams. We're gathering every Monday or Wednesday (for those who can't make Monday) at 19.30 BST.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh delightful - I cant make Mondays or Wednesdays!

    Have fun y'all!

*sniffs and wanders away all dejected *
  3. FYI Force Commander has spelunker badge mish... I suggest we kick off with that
  4. Now Issue 7 online - rolling Crack'd Cranium, my Mastermind.. id like to join this - but when is it being played (if im still welcome )?
  5. Given the current AV position I cant see anyone rolling a troller other than /Rad and any defender choosing anything other than Rad...

    RADS REVENGE!

*NB Please note that whilst inspired by the AV buff of issue 7, and strictly humorous this work of fiction in no way condones the ludicrous unbalancing of -regen powers in PvE*

    06/06/06: ISSUE 7 ARRIVES

Within hours, everybody taking on an AV either repeatedly faceplants or dies of old age without taking an AV to lower than 90% of health. UNLESS A RADIATION DEFENDER IS PRESENT!

Outbreak - Flower Knight gasps as Mr. Atomic, Mr. Radiation, Mr. Nuclear, Mr. Radioactive, and Mr. Nukem all parade in succession to rescue her...

Atlas Park - Captain Atom arrives to Greet Ms. Atlas, only to instantly receive 20 invites from various level 40-50 teams asking "R U RAD? DO U HAVE LINGERING RADIATION?"

Hollows - Mr. Tank runs into mob and as his health plummets screams "DEBUFF!". The blaster laughs at Mr. McHealy Empath with the bitter words "R U H43LOR? nOOb! U R Teh gimp! De8u44 4 teh WIN!"

Talos Island - Poors Nursey Empath Medaid, new level 20 hits Talos after wandering around for hours with team invite open and "EMPATH" in team search. She eventually scraps this for "DEFENDER" At which point she gets 50 invites asking "Can you debuff?" she has an internal debate about whether to lie...

ATOM SMASHER, the level 50 long retired Radiation defender pops into Peregrine. Instantly gets so many invites the entire server explodes...

(BTW I know /Kin and /Dark do some -regen aswell but Rad seems to have the best of it!)

Enjoy everybody! My Rad defender is lvl 50 and will debuff for influence! (And that is definately a joke)
  8. Cognito

    Rad / Rad build

Given the complete Mess that AVs are in at the moment as soon as you get Lingering Radiation you can expect a massive influx of invites from level 40-50s...

And fallout suddenly becomes a heap more attractive given the massive debuff it does...
  9. Too slow to be truly effective in PvP

From the looks of the new supertough AV's on issue 7 (and the screams I am hearing...) Fallout gonna be much appreciated...
  10. IMO you cant really go wrongwith any of the rad powers, although RI, EF, and LR are the three "must haves" as they are the core debuff.

Choking cloud is good for a defender, maybe even better for a Troller. A pulsing AoE hold toggle? you can effectively lock down half the mob at anyone time with this running. Downside is - aggro magnet. Use with a GOOD tank only.

Fallout has a bad rep, possibly becuase people focus on it as a damage power. The damage is mediocre, the debuff is spectacular. I wouldnt say its thats its a great power by any means, but come the 40's with a shed-load of AV's (who are going to be even tougher now...), you ARE going to have deaths, and exploding a corpse by an AV's feet always gave the team a considerable breathing space and chance to inflict much greater damage.

Fallout is probably the last on your list of priorities in rad set but don't dismiss it lightly. I found it usefull, and I think it will be even more so when debuffs are going to be vital to face Av's in issue 7 (and deaths more common).
  11. Hmmm.... I take your point but I think you mean...

Knockback is good if the TEAM know how to use it...

And therefore lies the genesis of AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGH- KNOCCCCCCCCKBACCCCCCCCCK!
  12. Fallout i found pretty useful against AV in the end game. Damage is medicre, but the debuff is much more impressive.

No one's really saying you can't be a tank without taunt, but you can never ne the best tank you can possibly be without it.

    Hammer.... Nail.... Head....

No matter how good a tank you are, you will be better with taunt.

A pretty rubbish cone (knockback aaaaaarghhhh!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have been playing a sonic/nrg blapper (lvl 16 so far, whoot) and I love that rubbish cone shockwave! Buildup, then howl and then shockwave... anything not dead is on the floor giving me a couple of seconds to run in shout at them, energy punch them and powerthrust that annoying boss away

Teams seem to like it so far

Shockwave is like supersonic gale. It's the fabbest

    [/ QUOTE ]

Played a rad defender up to 50. Therefore, Knockback is forever ingrained as aaaaaaaargggggh!
  15. Point taken about the repel effect of some of the high level forcefielders. However, I would argue that this is less of an advantage for a 'troller than a defender. In PvP or PvE it is fairly easy to stay out of melee most of the time (although in PvP you will need to be mobile/evasive) with holds/immobs/slows etc.

And although liquefy is pretty rubbish, its not so rubbish when its cast on an area already plagues by an earthquake or ice slick.
  16. I dont think you and I are going to agree on this at all... sorry

As far as I can see, the relative lowering of /sonic from defender --> troller is exactly the same as /forcefield.

I take your points tho, I was discussing from a PvE perspective. I am far from a PvP expert. However. I would argue that a lot of these discussions are contextual - big team PvP? Small team PvP, dual PvP?

Context if the thing. How are 8 empath defenders going to have a chance vs 8 forcefield defenders for instance. Empaths might stitch up damage superquick, but when half of them are held by force field cages, and 8 snipes fire off at each one in turn (and are very hard to interrupt given the maxed out defence) things could look very much in the favour of the forcefielders... Just an example, but so much of PvP is contextual IMHO.
  17. Well, kinda yeah?

AoE's are always going to win the day in teams - and blasters are more "teamy" than the uber-dull scrappers (Swing that Bat States - harder!, faster!). Blasters have more AoE than scrappers with the exception of Spine blasters (Oh, another Spines/Regen hero? Please to meet you, what an original build you have!)

Sonic a bit lacking in AoE if you ask me. A pretty good cone. A pretty rubbish cone (knockback aaaaaarghhhh!), and a cone sleep. Not bad, but not great. Since I despise Knockback with a vengance (and I would suggest most "tight" teams do to), Ive only really got 1 cone and 1 cone sleep.

So I picked up a fire to flesh out the AoE with combustion - and toying with burn and blazing aura for some fun
  18. Has anyone tried this with a fire/ice blaster?

I wonder if the combination of Chilling Embrace and Ice Slick might make the Good 'ol RoF rather more appealing?
  19. All very interesting - could make disruption field monsterous in such a scenario of course.

BTW given sings very very high resistance - Stack this with sonic shields - what are we looking at? 90%?
  20. Ah yes = only lvl 28 at the moment, I had forgotten about Sing's repulsion...

Hmmm is it possible to wormhole ----> corner, get sing repelling and putting disruption field on then?
  21. Personally Ive gone for sonic/fire. Did sonic/electric up to 14 and it was good, but I feel sonic a bit lacking in AoE, and thats kinda a blastery job, so thought better compensate abit.
  22. THere is something special about tanking well IMHO. Its rather rare to find a good tank. You need a Zen like mind state of an almost gravitational presence. Your job is to free all other team mates from fear and let them do their job without worrying about getting hit.

Its rare, but its a thing of beauty seeing a truly maginificent tank taking EVERY SINGLE ATTACK. You can play your squishy in complete freedom - attacking/debuffing a tightly knit pack of enemies.

Till some energy blaster comes along - yikes!

Sonic also has phase power, ally rings, and PBAoE mez protection. I'd say sonic for team PvP, FF for solo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nah, the sonic set isn't worth it on a Controller. FF offers the same bonuses (PbAoE mez protection, single target phase) as well as some brilliant powers like Force Bubble and Repulsion Bomb. The values for /sonic are way too low, and Liquefy just doesn't compare to Force Bubble at all.

Yeah, they have clarity but if you're on a team you should have an empath with Clear Mind anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

IM sorry I dont get this at all. /sonic valules decriment at exactly the same values as /force field for controllers, so this make no sense at all to me?

Have you actually tried a /sonic controller? When I solo in PvE There is a small but significant speed increase with /sonic vs /forcefield. This in on my grav troller who I rerolled at level 16 from grav/ff to grav/sonic. Bearing in mind with solo I have suficient lock-down to not need much defence, the extra resistance-debuff speeds me up.

And come level 32 I will have even more resistance debuff when using disruption field on my singularity.

Sorry, dont get it. If anyone else has personal experience of /sonic and /forcefield on the same set, please correct me.

The only thing i miss from /forcefield is pff, but I havent died once soloing my grav/sonic since level 22.

Oh, and you should have an empath on the team? what nonsense is that. Empaths, IMHO become progressively less useful on large teams and higher level teams. Past mid 30's about the only thing I DO want an empath for is clear mind. Id far rather have a sonic controller maxing out the tanks resistances, providing us all with AoE and toggle mez protection, and using sonic disruption around the tank so we all have a massive damage bonus.
  24. Spelunker Mission is "Rescue Fortune teller" mission that is always in Perez Park. It is avaialble from levels 10-14 from: Dr Trevor Seaborn, Hugo Redding, Haly Phillips.

Now, I know badge hunting is not the purpose of the Militia, but there are a couple of badges that are required in order to get the Accolades. Most of them are level 30+ badges and pretty easy to get, but Spelunker is one that is very easy to miss.

The spelunker badge is one of the requisites to the "Atlas Medallion" badge, which gives you a permenant +5 endurance. Which is nice

I hope that explains the whole spelunker thing and why its relatively important to get that mission and badge
  25. Many of the powersets are the same, tbh... The only real solo difference is going to be sonic siphon vs forecbolt (one will up your damage, the other will give you more pseudo control), and forcefield has a "oh s---" button in personal force field. I doubt you will need the repulsion effects of later forcefields as a solo controller (and they have hideous and costs), so not much in it. I suppose the final tier sonic power - liquefy, gives you an extra low mag hold.

Oh, and I suppose at level 32 you could you disruption field on one of your imps - that would increase your damage even more...

So I suppose if you are going for a max-out damage troller sonic has the edge (because of two -resistance debuffs)
