  1. TP Foe can miss and you only TP one of enemy into traps. My thoughts with Team teleport is a big boom of all traps on all foes with no miss.
  2. Hey Ho Chaps...

    Little thought I had...

Traps corruptor lays down his arsenal of traps

Team teleports himself and all his traps into mob...

    Would this work?

    Ice tankers??

ice is vry good now due to issues 7's defense scaling, before ice used to be a joke but now its rocks pvp and pve

    [/ QUOTE ]
PvE I can agree, after I5 it's been a bit of a joke if you never had Ice Patch to tank with because anything +3 or with high tohit buffs made you useless...
In PvP nothig really changed as said in the patch notes (altho I won't believe much of what's said in the patch notes )

    [/ QUOTE ]

I understood Ice/Energy was FoTM PvP build at the moment. And judging from my ice/ice tank performance on the test server it took a minimum of 5 villians to down me, and i had teams of 8 villians give up. And im a rubbish PvP'er.

    Ice tankers??

If you ever get hold of a radiation defender, Ice + Rad is a marvellous synergy.
  5. Ok we may need to have a roll call of people still interested in regular meet ups... (as opposed to irregular ones)

Force Commander (Def) remains up for it
  6. Forum Name: Cognito
    Hero Name: Force Commander

  7. Might be nice when entire group is treading on 20 stacked caltrops from the knives of Artemis tho... That really changed my mind about caltrops... People actually DYING from them!
  8. Looks pretty solid to me...

Hand Clap is an annoying power to many, and may be to you, because of its knockback effect.

YOu may wish to consider squeezing in punch/tough/weave if you are going for heavy dutry tanking. Tough will give you silly smash/lethal damage (Taking you to close to cap) and you will certainly notice the damage reduction at such high levels.

Weave is usually thought of as rubbish, but the defence is more helpful in issue 7. Also, come the level 30's / 40's and you start facing psionic attacks on an increasingly frequent basis this will be your only limited protection. IIRC you can slot weave up to about 5-7% def vs all as a tank, which translates to 10-14% damage reduction / mez reduction / secondary effect reduction (hey anything helps vs sappers).

BUt pretty solid anyway. Id just suggest you consider the fighting pool if you want to go the "super-tough" route.
  9. Wasnt aware AM has +recharge? mez resistance, speed boost, end boost, damage boost for sure... Are you positive it does +recharge? (That would make it even more absurdly good than it already is!)
  10. Kockback is a pain to a tank anyway - especially a stone tank who cant go chasing after everyone.

Knockback powers seem to be built for solo-play. THey certainly are great damage mitigation for a energy blaster. They screw things up for teams most of the time. I have seen knockback used constructively against walls / corners but this requires great skill on whole team, and great restraint by blasters in particular - who are not known for restraint
  11. Bit of advice from all kinetic defenders / offenders please...

Rolling a Kin/Rad 'fender atm. I wont bother with precise build, but I wondered how important Acrobatics would be for a kinetic defender?

(Getting Irradiate from Rad secondary of course which is PBAoE, Might get repel at later date for some tomfoolery)
  12. AM is not perma tho You would need to alternate AM "shifts" and plug the gaps with assault.

So fully slotted manuevers is 5% aprox? Thats not so shabby in issue 7. It effectively means 10% mez/damage/secondary effect mitigation which is pretty helpful.

    (Def > Resistance x2)
  13. Yeah I think a fire/psionic dominator is about the only chance anyone has 1:1 vs an Ice tank. (Of actually beating it anyway).

Playing my Ice tank I even managed to take down a granite tank who had let his end slip a bit, by Using energy absorbtion - detoggled - Granite recharge so.... slow.... because of chilling embrace. Meantime, Air Superiority and Ice Slick keep him bouncing up and down whilst I slowly whittled his hp away...
  14. Dont pick Ice? Are you mad? The damage is pretty weak, but Ice secondary is an incredible secondary for one reason - Ice Slick!

This power can be made permanent with one SO. This power boosts your survivability by more than any one single tanker primary except granite (and probably more than many two primaries). This power makes it even easier to keep mobs packed around you like flies to excrement.

Do not listen! If you want to be the toughest tank ever, then Stone / Ice is unbeatable.

PS This power will make you want to rip the heads of energy blasters...
  15. Well, in any team of 5+ its hard to beat leadership IMO. Just cos its "invisible" doesnt mean it doesent pack a significant wallop. Even if your damage is slotted up to +100% from enhancements, its a +10% damage to every team member for every attack (as a defender, and using aprox figures).

Can you imagine the esctasy of 8 rad defenders all running assault with Accelerate Metabolism vs enemies with no resistance or defence?

And, Assault only needs 3 slots at most.

Point taken about kinetics however. My kineticist at level 14 had assault. Perhaps I should change it to manuevers at level 32? (Def Taking Tactics as a kinetics). Not that Im a huge fan of manuevers (but then again, 9% defence, or 18% damage/mez/secobdary effect avoidance for whole team....) [please correct my figures im thinking 5% base 3 SO slots] but since damage will be maxed out anyway?
  16. Depends how much you want to solo / team. More "teamy" means AoE more attractive (Fire is best for this).

To be honest, tanks are mainly defined by their primary, and Id just go with concept and fun.

    Just get taunt!

Talos Island - Poors Nursey Empath Medaid, new level 20 hits Talos after wandering around for hours with team invite open and "EMPATH" in team search. She eventually scraps this for "DEFENDER" At which point she gets 50 invites asking "Can you debuff?" she has an internal debate about whether to lie..

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was me on my kinetic defender when CoH hit live on US server. Except the debuff question was switched with "Are you a healer?"

    Ahh how things have changed

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey, where did you think I got my inspiration from? Certainly not when I was a level 20 rad defender and got asked "R u H48l0r?". Well... I do have a heal power....

If Cognito is dropping out, I see no reason why not. If you want, as the level cap is now 10, give yourself some time to level and come to the Wednesday meet. Please bare in mind, though, that you will have to play a Mastermind, as this is the place Cognito went for.

  19. Unfortunately (from Ice armor descriptions) Ice seems to have the most debuff resistance, as well as a practical immunity to slows...

I suppose Fire trollers / Dominators are probably the only way to realistically do enough damage to ice tanks. Psionic damage is all very well, but defenders /trollers arent going to do vast amounts of it. And anyway, you get stuck in that chilling embrace and its bye bye - cant mez em, hard to escape, and meanwhile your are doing -14% damage and slowed recharge even if it is fire damage / psionic.

IRRC Fire damage is defended against by glacial or frost armour to a small degree - so even if permafrost is missing its not like pounding away with psionic damage...

IIRC The only time I got pounded in RV was when there were 3+ dominators who finally mezzed me out of my armours long enough for me to take damage (from AS usually) and so i couldnt hoarfrost / hibernate. But its ridiculous - it took at the MINIMUM 5 villians all of pretty optimal anti-ice builds to take me down.
  20. My personal view - defence becomes progressively superior the higher your HP...

Since - a) "Bad streaks" dont become lethal and b) you can survive the few seconds the blaster whips up his Aim + BU.

My experience of the RV event on test server a week ago led me to experience Ice tanks as the absolute nightmare... (and Im talking from both sides of the fence)... Fire is just to offensive and thus can just be worn down, Invunrability dosent shine against single targets doing non S/L damage, and "unstoppable" will wear off leading almost inevitably to death...

Granite tanks are NEVER a threat (didnt see on kill by them on their own), and saw a fair few taken down by end drain...

Ice tank? Just how are you meant to kill them? Highest Mez resistance, cant take down their end (innate resistance + sky high defence), you are slowed and debuffed when in melee, they have +percep vs stalkers.... and even when you finally wean their hp down (after they have hit hoarfrost for any unlucky streaks), they hit hibernate - and bang you are back to square one... I gave up even approaching ice tanks because there was no way to take one down and they could be a genuine threat with their slow aura. And playing one - I had a team of EIGHT villians attacking me who eventually gave up because my hibernate recharged faster than they could take my hp down...

So defence seemed to rule the day in PvP at least for high HP tanks. As I said, when you are a stalker - a few lucky punches and its game over...

And if anyone could tell me exactly how on earth you take down an Ice tank in PvP, let me know. I understand Ice/EM tanks are the current FoTM in PvP these days...
  21. Leadership is under-rated, until you have a large team with everyone running leadership, at which point I changed my mind - try it!
  22. TBH I view any defender / troller / MM / Corruptor without at least 1 leadership pool as rather substandard.

I recall once a 6 MM / 1 brute team. All the MM had assault. THe poor brute barely managed to reach the mobs before they had been gunned down by the MM. After that experience, I simply cant do without Assault at the least. If everyone took leadership pools in the game, it would feel like god mode.
  23. Ummm... 20% resistance and 20% defence are pretty much the same - you will loose (on average) 20% less hit points over the same course of time from attacks. Neither have any advantage over the other in terms of lessening the damage you take...

The differences, as far as I can determine, are:

DEFENCE offers the prospect of the "run of awful luck" - you can get hit a lot for the full whack very quickly. Whilst this is unlikely, resistance is superior in that such a string of full damage hits is NEVER going to happen. The AVERAGE loss of HP is the same, but whilst you could loose NO hit points with Defence, you may loose them all...

(This is less of a problem with high HP characters like tanks and brutes who can normally survive a string of bad luck)

DEFENCE is superior because with mixed damage attacks (like a clockworks energy/smash punch), the highest defence bonus is used (wheras with RESISTANCE, the separate damages are reduced). This means defence is slightly superior to resistance in cases of mix/damage attacks

DEFENCE is superior because you also miss out on the secondary effects of the attacks - like the holds, slows, end drains, debuffs, etc... This is really why defence outshines Resistance.

However, if you are looking purely at HP loss, Resistance = Defence (except for mixed damage attacks).
  24. I usually team to be honest. Looks like a very tough call on the ones to drop

Im inclined towards dropping the rez. The status protection looks far to good to miss. STH is also very handy.
  25. OK. Well its a PvE build, undescided on travel power (probably flight or telepor, both high costs)...

Ok this means I will have to skip 2 poison powers to get my assault + tactics pool. Poison trap is a definite must to drop...

Whats the other one? Elixir of Life looks the tempting to drop, mainly cos all the other look fab...

    Suggestions?
