Well, RL has clashed and Im afraid it is likely to mean that Im out of regular monday nights...
Unless things change, Ill just have to wish you all good luck and im very interested to see the results! -

try dark/ea its brilliant, i liked it and i'm sure u will 2
[/ QUOTE ]
But rather bad for teaming. No taunt aura, not many AoE attacks. -
[ QUOTE ]
An Ice/Energy would be my choice as a hero... they are super hard to hold (the hardest around)
[/ QUOTE ]
Errm I would think that the hardest around is a Stone tank tho
[ QUOTE ]
Technically True, although also completely useless versus a mobile Controller. Stick yourself in Granite and your damage output will be zero. An Ice tank combines superb durability with superb mobility (resistance to slows). Your point about defence debuffs is entirely reasonable althouth Ice does come with resist def debuff.
As others have said, the varation in controllers sets and powers makes it pretty much impossible to have an AT / sets which can take down anything. -
An Ice/Energy would be my choice as a hero... they are super hard to hold (the hardest around) and take a really concerted effort to kill with hibernate... combined with impressive single target damage.
As a villian... thats a bit tricky. A brute is going to have trouble building up fury, id guess. A stalker seems a reasonable bet (they do pretty well in PvP anyway). A dominator, providing they could get domination up, would be a real killer due to mez resistance in domination.
I just wondered if a Mastermind could do fairly well?... Controllers would suffer... holding the MM isnt particularly helpful (other than stopping supremecy) as the minions will carry on plowing away and carry on using bodyguard...
Its impossible to really cover all eventualities. I wonder if something like a ninja/FF mastermind would do well tho... high defence minions, mez resistance for yourself and all your cronies (from dispersion feild), and pretty reasonable damage... Mind you a mass confusion on a mastermind means game over...
Heh not helpful at all I suppose... sorry! -
Go with concept first.
A few thoughts, however...
/EM and /Elec both lack a self-heal - meaning dark becomes a little more attractive because of its primary self heal.
/EM feels a little less resiliant than /Elec - but is the king of endurance recovery.
Elec/Elec has some synergy in allowing you to very effectively END drain enemies... although this can be counter productive in terms of building fury, its an excellent way of dealing with enemies.
Dark/EA has very good synergy... apart from the Self heal of dark, it has -acc debuff effect which goes VERY well with defence (like EA or Stone) as opposed to resistance (like elec) armours.
Do you want to solo or group?...
In groups you are looking at big AoE attacks... Fire is best, Strength and Energy Mellee are worst. Dark is fairly weak, Elec is fairly good. Solo, the opposite applies.
Similarly, EA is a little poor in groups... having no taunt aura means it is hard to get enemies to attack you (which helps keeps your team mates alive and builds your fury).
Hope those are some pointers. No set is "gimped" at all, so play what you feel is right and looks cool. As far as PvE goes, just recall that AoE (Area of Effect) is king in (big) groups, whilst Single Target Effects is king solo. This goes just as much for choosing which powers to get as to which sets to choose (its just that some sets have more AoE available than others). -
RL Does not permit...
Good luck all! -
Looks like fun
Are we going to form a VG?. I only ask because it can help keep track of levels and therefore ensure not too much spread. -
RL Permitting, Ill be up for this. Probbaly with a nice Ice Tank
-
Hey ho folks
I have tommorow off and wondered if anyone fanced the Posi TF tommorow (Wed) at 11am? I gotta lovely tank (lvl 14) waiting for the badge!

Well weekday evenings tend to be the easiest time. Something like a 7pm start gives people a chance to get home and have dinner first too.
Looking like Monday or Friday nights at the moment.

Friday FTW

Monday FTW!
Friday For the RL! -
I can do Union too, although my preference is Defiant.
Ill probably do a Thugs/Traps blastermind with teleport foe... hehe!
I would suggest a couple of things tho..
1. That FFG is the thing we ALL need to get, at level 20 (yes, even delay stamina).. because several of these stacked means an unholy amount of protection.
2. A number of us need to get Poison Trap - we will be facing a large amount of AVs, and thats the only -regen power we get.
3. My one observation is that up to "Trip Mines" damage output will be a little on the low side (not bad, but not great). Is it worth us all getting assault from leadership? (A tasty +120% damage bonus in an 8 man team)... it would significantly rack up our levelling speed.
All suggestions. Im not one for dictating builds but there you go. -
The issue may well be endurance, however. AoE attacks cost an inordinate amount of End, and are thus ineffecient in small spawns. And I tend to find Endurance is the problem for brutes who need to incessently attack in order to maintain fury. /FIre armour is a much more endurance sucker than NRG
-
Definately EM/EA. If you are soloing you want Single Target effects. EM/EA is almost exlusively single target effects (Taunt, Whirring Hands, and Power Drain the only exceptions). Fire/Fire is stuffed full of AoE attacks and effects.
The only possible downside to EM/EA is lack of self heal, but thats nevertheless there really is no comparison.
Flipside of course is that EM/EA is pretty pants in a team. Personally, I wouldnt invite an EM/EA to a team unless he/she had taunt - and for the record I am far from a "Build - fascist"... -

I was just curious if you just went all out blapper (Squid/Human) vs an Ice/energy who would win that one?! y'know?!
[/ QUOTE ]
The Ice/Energy, no contest.
Even leaving the base damage difference aside, the blaster has loads of slow/recharges and disorient attacks.
The only chance the PB would have would be in light form, if the blaster's daft enough to stay in melee range.
[/ QUOTE ]
Im not sure if you factor in PB's inherent. Put him/her in a team of 7 tanks, for instance and things may be rather different? -
Bah... looks like RL getting in the way... will keep you updated but may have to bow out gracefully...
-
As I thought.
End of the day both sets are pretty nifty in the right hands in the right circusmtances. -
Fear is great, but isnt equal to a full blown hold. Hit em with an AoE and they all get a chance to pummel you back.
As with all things it depends on the team you are with. With plenty of AoE being flung about (especially things like AoE toggles) fear becomes a bit sub-par compared to a hold. IIRC it does give yet another -acc debuff which is darks strength. -
Not sure exactly how RL will play out.. but I would be glad to join with Force Commander, my Kinetics defender.
Tally Ho! -

Very enjoyable all, look forward to the next oneand thanks to the M's for organising it

They are, I understand, officially jolly nice people. -
Its a good'n for sure. But rather long recharge. Fair call tho, forgot about it.
Choking cloud is still the king of defender holds if you ask me. And it needs to be, given end cost and danger it puts you in! -
Sorry by saying /Rad has more control (very slightly) I was comparing to /Dark, not comparing Rad/Rad vs Dark/Dark.
BUt its really on comparing a superb single target stun (Cosmic Burst) vs the weak AoE disorientate and strong AoE immob that dark has. So not a whole hillabeans in it.
Comparing Rad primary vs Dark primary, id say Dark has the edge in AoE fear and single target hold. However, Choking cloud is a simply awesome AoE hold (actually better than dark) which is hampered by the risk in using it (i.e. in the middle of melee) and end cost.
But, differences are generally pretty small. -
Heh what about starting off with poor old Positron?
Anyway, Ill see if I can drag one of my alts over to Synapse this Saturday, time permitting. Possibly my ice tank, Cryotherapy. However, RL is a random beast -
Neither is better!
Radation/Radation will be better at taking down AVs from my experience. And AVs are the name of the game level 40-50.
Dark/Dark, however, is very good accuracy debuffery, and will have the edge against mobs in terms of protection.
/Radation has the slight edge in AoE damage (particularly irradiate) and probably a slight edge in control and damage overall compared to /Dark.
Dark will have an easier time solo with the pet at level 32.
Overall, however, they are both fun. -
Just a quickie folks:
Thinking of an Ice/Rad troller... looks like a highly effective team lock down fella, but when i look at statistics it seems impossible to run Arctic Air and Choking CLoud simultaneously without net end loss, even with Stamina x3 SO and End reducers x3 SO in both of these powers?
Any enlightenment?
