    Boo.

Was afraid of that, Katana uses left handed animations. It also uses 2 for its weapon flag. I didn't have any broadsword recordings handy, but Axe and Mace also use 1.

Maybe I should have said "correct hand".
ISTR katana animations being left-handed or something odd.

Some of the MOVs should have a number at the end, like 100 50 MOV READY 0
Most of them will be 0, but when you have your broadsword out it may change to a different number. Tack that same one to the end of the MOV I posted. I don't know the exact function, but it seems to be related to helping the game keep track of which weapon you have drawn.

I prefer base portal, craft cure, then teleporter to Perez Park. There's plenty of lost on the north side, and the gate to Steel is right there (and drops you off right by the University). YMMV.
  4. Hmm, possibly ENC_CUSTOM_KATANA_POINT combined with whatever number at the end is showing up on the rest of your moves with the broadsword out.

I'm not sure if that will use the right hand, though.
  5. Doesn't CIT + Sentinel do this? I know there's options for doing forum signatures that show offline / online status and which character. Only thing I think it's missing is a friends list type function, but it does provide XML data feeds so someone might be able to build one...

It gets a little murky with enhancements, since part of the enhancement must always affect you (the buffs to attributes like Damage and Accuracy), and part of it must be applied to the target of the power. I get the impression that procs were either something that was bolted on later, or maybe even an unintended feature of the enhancement mechanics that was discovered and capitalized on.

Yeah, it was a bad example because I know that one was fixed previously. Regardless of how they did it before, it now uses the same isFriend? check that all the other procs do.

Refresh my memory, was the issue with procs in taunt auras firing on self, or was it something else? If that's what it was, then yes, they do.

Procs are different. Because of how enhancements work, they don't get to have their own list of affected entities, have have to rely solely on the self/target split. Even that last part can be troublesome because one power might be able to affect caster, while another wouldn't. Pseudopet summons are especially problematic.

HOWEVER, for at least the last 5 or 6 issues, and maybe longer, all procs with negative effects, and many of the ones with positive effects have had a fail-safe added. This comes in the form of a conditional attached to the proc that double-checks if the target entity is considered hostile. So no more slotting Energy Manipulator in Speed Boost and stunning your teammates.

Barring some weird edge case, I'd say that with the addition of those fail-safes, proc misfiring issues are essentially "Solved". They may not always fire on the target you want them to, but if not they simply won't go off rather than hurting yourself with them.

Since that model has been around at least since Issue 21.5 (Minds of Mayhem version anyway), it might be fair to say that the Spring Fling pack includes Penelope's hair.

I think she MAY have a unique texture on it, though. Need to get some close up screenshots for comparison.
  10. In spite of the stated policy in the ustream yesterday, I think that the (Kill Alexis) dialog tree option in SSA#3 is pretty downright villainous and about as dark as it gets short of torturing children or something.

It's probably a lot easier to RP selfish rogues and insane world-destroying villains than it is for your character to be a cold-blooded killer like that. Even with all the rationalization and emotional detachment that usually comes with playing video games.

Heh, no problem, just get a little OCD when people talk about power targets vs. effect targets, since the interactions can be subtle. Sorry about the wall of text.

/really need to work on that power system mechanics wiki article

That's actually not how it works.

The power itself has "Caster" as target, but "Foe" as the only entities affected by it. That means that it's centered on you, but can only actually hit entities that are unfriendly to you.

Individual effects on the other hand also have a target. This can either be "self", meaning that it applies to whomever uses the power, or "target", meaning that it applies to the entity that was affected by it (in this case, Foe).

Most of Entropic Aura's effects are targeted at self. Note that in a power like this, even though the effect's target is self, a separate copy of the effect is generated for each entity (in this case, foe) that is hit. That's the basic principle that is used for powers which grant varying levels of buffs depending on how many enemies are in range. The way to prevent that is if the effect is set to not stack from the same caster, so you can only ever get 1 instance of it. If you look at the link above, you'll see that the 3.5% recharge buff is the only one that can stack, so you get that for each enemy in range.

Only the Recharge debuff and Taunt use "target" and actually get applied to foes. Those are the ones with the seemingly unnecessary extra check on them. You should never be the target of those, because Caster/Player is not on the list of affected entities.

It's no different than how powers like Invincibility work, except those don't have the explicit (If not source = target) check. Entropic Aura is the only power that does that.
  13. If you really want to level fast and get a feel for the game, look for people doing mission teams. It doesn't really matter if you're in their level range or not too much. A level 7 trying to get on a level 50 team might be frowned upon, but a level 30 probably wouldn't.

If you get get on a team of 5-8, you'll steamroll along and the levels will fly by before you know it -- especially the low and slow ones. You can level even faster by getting on what people call farms, but IMO simply teaming a lot on regular missions is still fairly fast and has the advantage that you don't miss the fun part of the game.

It helps if you're high enough on the Premium ladder to have tells. If not, look in the team window when you're not on one and set your search flag to "Looking for Any", then enter a comment that you can't reply to tells and will accept invites. Setting the flag is a good idea either way -- you'll be at the top of the list when people do a search to find potential teammates to invite.

Once you get comfortable with the pace of missions and general layout of the city, you can also try leading your own teams, which is handy when there's nobody currently leading any but lots of people who would want to join if only they were asked. It's easy! Just type /sea to get the search window, click 'Find' to clear the default settings which only look in your zone and level range, and look for people who are either flagged as LFG (they'll have a different icon), or have something in their search comments. Send them a polite tell asking if they are interested in teaming, and don't take it personally if they'd rather solo.

If you do that, remember that you don't *need* any particular AT or role like a tank or a healer. You can do missions just fine with a team of all scrappers. Everyone adds to the team's strength in different ways, so it's usually good to have a mix, but not necessary. You also don't need a full team -- if you have 4 and don't see anyone obviously interested, the missions all scale to team size, so you can do great running with 4 instead of sitting around waiting for more.

But most of all, make sure you're having fun!
  14. They're definitely there. On a level 50 Brute it's -16% Recharge while in the aura, and a 13.6s Taunt (mag 4). The relevant effects all have a special condition to prevent them from applying to yourself.

I'm not sure how that could ever happen -- you'd have to be considered a Foe of yourself -- but evidently there's a reason for it to be there. Whatever the case, the detailed power window probably just doesn't understand what the condition is for and so it doesn't show those effects.

    Isn't Penelope of Asian descent?

After Positron made such a big deal about it (even changing BAB's display in the missions where he appears to not say <Freedom Phalanx>), it seems they have already forgotten. Being a pallbearer makes sense as he was a good friend of Statesman, but in the unfinished SSA he's attending what is explicitly called a "Freedom Phalanx meeting".

I didn't think to check his association there, is he still listed as <Independents> or did it revert back?

I'd also guess that Psyche is either dead, still comatose, or forced into early retirement due to the psychic bomb that Malaise planted/awakened. Manticore didn't seem quite as bitter as I would think he'd be if she'd died, so possibly the latter -- taking a break from superheroing to deal with the trauma.

Of course like Beast Mastery I'm sure they'll say this is still in "early development" and "subject to change". So don't be making canon assumptions from it.

/wonders whose cube will be targeted by the rockets this time

PS. For the record, I actually am a fan of the outfit. It's a bit punky and while not overboard on the sexy, seems like something an 18/19 year old declaring independence would wear to make a statement.

That's because they're not IOs or HOs. They're ATOs (I still prefer AO, but ATO seems to be what the devs call them most of the time).

Boosters don't work on any attuned enhancements due to the level-scaling mechanic. It might be something they could possibly make work in the future, but I wouldn't make any plans for doing it.

Attuned enhancements all exist completely separate from the crafting system and from IOs. They may re-use the same names and icons and enhancement values / set bonuses, but they're not the same (although many belong to the same SETS as IOs do, so that you can't slot "duplicates").

And anyone calling them ATIOs needs to have some sense beaten into them! :P
  17. After some playing around in GIMP I think I've managed to invert the filter that was used to wash out the colors.

While I can see why the filter was used -- to set the mood of desolation and listlessness -- I didn't think that's how David originally drew the characters and wanted to get as close as I could to his original work.

As an aside, I see that many of the attendees are just as trendy and "creative" as a lot of the people I see in Atlas Park . I see no less than 5 wearing full sets of Elemental Order, and 2 in full Celestial.

I'm not certain that she will. After all, mind-riding Aurora didn't turn out so well in the long run, so may be reluctant to try it again so soon.

Not to mention the question of what would happen if she tried to use the body of someone who is possibly more powerful than she is, even willingly.

  21. Red, white, and black -- the top half of the tunic and the arms are black, with some white trim.

If that thumbnail is the original, it looks like they didn't crop it to hide anything except for the faded edges. The two figures flanking Ms. Liberty are almost certainly Mynx (stripe pattern is visible) and Swan, and it doesn't look like anyone else's face was cropped out.

Which leaves Manticore and Sister Psyche conspicuously absent. And an up-and-coming hotshot psychic hanging out with some big names. Hmmmmm.
