I think they did know players would make farming missions but were surprised out the just how many did and how efficient they were at the creations. Not to mention the devs needed to see what would be abused so they could make the changes based on the datamining rather then guessing.

1. Quality over Quantity - use a recruitment period. We have an established 30 day recruitment period for all new applicants because we care about our members and not their prestige.
2. Event - People like to be involved. Players/members may not initiate many events but if you have a Task Force Friday and/or Strike Force Saturday...you won't have trouble making a full team.
3. This is a social network - SGs, are for the most part, a social network. Treat it like such. Get to know your members personally. This also ties in with the recruitment period.
4. Website - this is a huge plus. It gives members another medium to be focused around your SG, a place to plan events, make silly posts, talk about one another, and to send possible recruits for membership.
5. Clear concise rules - It's your SG, so your rules. Be sure to enforce them for everyone or no-one. Most players will pick up on favoritism and that only promotes ill-will.

Fire Melee is pretty stout. Fast Animating attacks (scorch, incinerate and fire sowrd) are perfect for +dam procs and building Fury.
I'm running a level 42 Fire/SR brute that eats through content. I will say /sr is a late bloomer, much later then WP. -

i mean if people are rerolling - and i assume they ahve some cash - one has to only look at how much easier it is to cap positional defense if yo uare a shield/sr scrapper and take katana or bs with it's parry (opening more slotting options), and how you can relatively cheaply slot one or two -20% resist procs in either said primaries
i mean, just from a pve standpoint - that's pretty killer. (and just one example)

Guess you've never played a SR Brute. I don't even have Weave yet and I'm running around at 43% Melee Def, 37% Ranged and 36% AoE (CJ + some IOs).
Not to mention Brutes > Scrappers in survivability and damage output. Which isn't the best thing to note since scrappers are a balanced AT. I have always feared a brute nerf at some point.
Back to topic! I think tanks will be fine since most brute players (sans a majority of stone armor brutes) play similar to scrappers from my experience. When I lead a team, I considered Brutes damage dealers and still try and find a tank. -
Pfffft, fighting pylons is boring. If you want a real challenge on your WP, in the RWZ, grab a level 54 spawn (like the scrapper challenge) and then pull one of those Heavy EBs in the mix. Everything goes swimmingly until that damn thing debuffs your regen! Going from 80-90 hp/sec to 0 is baaaaaaad.

Being able to create different builds is one of the pros of this game, IOs and the WP set. I have a pretty stout Def build on my brute (can't remember the numbers offhand). I think WP lends itself to be good at either def or res.

This. The only brute I have at 50 is my Elec Armor and the only resist he can cap is Energy... even with Power Surge.

I have an elec armor brute and I could have sworn his Power Surge caps all resistance except toxic/psi. I'd have to go ingame and double check which is not likely to happen for 12-15 hours. -
I find paper calculations about survivability, in general, to be flawed. The best source of information is obtained from experience and playing the game.
In this example, just run hero stats while 1 brute is softcapped with zero resistance (use lucks) and another is capped to resis with zero def (use sturdies). Do this about 50 times and record your results. -

Perhaps I wasn't clear. +Regen is normally the first set bonus in a given Set with +HP being the 2nd bonus. So if you're going for +HP, then you are indirectly building for +Regen.
I totally agree that +HP > +regen since any +HP will yield a great hp/sec result then adding regen but to call adding +regen stupid is incorrect and misleading. -
It's not the worst thing to slot towards and is usually tied with +HP set bonuses.
I would say the worst thing to slot for would be +mez resistance. :P -
You are using a highly Purpled out SS/WP Brute with both Uniques.
I am not. The only unique I run is Numina's and I do have some other minor +recovery bonuses. I don't care for massive +recharge or making a purpled out Brute (way too many alts).
I'm quite satisfied with the uberness this brute exumes. -
I see your point. Different playstyles it seems as I use mine for Teams, TFs, Raids and not much else. I rarely need more DPS due to the team and with Darkest Night toggled, spamming attacks and/or Hasten dropping (on top of Rage) would just give me endurance issues I don't need.

I hear alot of /WP brute building for +recharge and it's something I don't fully understand since only one power (self-rez) really benefits from the additional recharge.
Sure it helps your primary but I don't even have Hasten on my SS/WP and my attack chain is seamless.
I should note that this is not a farming build whatsoever. -

I slotted for +def (smashing/melee), +HP and +regen. I figured not getting hit as often (def) would allow my health (+HP, +regen) to heal quicker and it works very well.
