Corruptors, on the other hand, play pretty much exactly the same as Defenders. The difference lies in numbers, and Corruptors tend to have the advantage there. Who cares if they provide a few points less of defense, resistance or healing than Defenders do when you've got 2 or 3 of them on a team?
Corruptors will heavily infringe upon Defender territory, and I'll bet that they'll even take a good chunk out of Blasters, too.
Defenders and Corruptors are just way too similar, and, as datamining can show, damage trumps all when it comes to popularity.
[/ QUOTE ]
You now what's weird? I love to play debuffing defenders; Dark/Sonic, Cold/Ice, Rad/Rad. But I've tried leveling corruptors and found them boring for some reason. I do have one high level corr, a 48 Sonic/Rad but I rarely play it.
So while you suggest they are very similar, there are still players that find one better (or more fun) than the other. And even though Corr is supposedly a higher damage AT, I find the Defender much more entertaining. -

I recently hit 50 on my Fire/SR Brute. SR can be kind of painfulin the low levels but finding a team will usually round out your survivability.
I'm currently soft-capped to melee/range/aoe defense and this is more fun them my SS/WP Brute.
I think my favorite aspect of SR is the scaling resistance. So, ya, Fire/SR is great once you can softcap your build, otherwise it can be a bit painful in the low levels without support due to the lack of mitigation from your primary. -

Dark Miasma/Dark Servant (all versions): Fixed a bug that caused this power to state that it would except Recharge Intensive Pet enhancement sets. Since this pet cannot be slotted for damage, it should never have been able to accept these types of enhancements.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um, excuse me?
While Dark Servant does not take damage, it is not permanent until killed. Which means it actually does need to be up faster than it recharges normally at times.
I really wonder if the developers just hate Dark Miasma on general principle.
[/ QUOTE ]
Feel free to list your other examples that show the devs hate Dark Miasma.
And before you accuse me of anything or not knowing the set, my main is a Dark/Sonic Defender. -
I understand your post but I wanted to note there was some new content released in Issue 15; a task force and strike force.
I don't care to bicker about how well they are written, blahblahblah, but that is content and is a valid counter-point. -
[ QUOTE ]
It makes no sense to me. Never has. This game has always been somewhat solo friendly and has only become more so as it has evolved. Has this killed teaming? Has it EVER killed teaming? No. Never. Not once.
[/ QUOTE ]
I started with CoV back in June 2006. I have a harder time building and finding teams now than I did when I first joined. Is that evidence to disprove your point? Nope. But I play CoV nearly everyday and I use my experience to assert my opinions.
So, to me, teaming as declined since the addition of more soloable content that you mentioned.
I'll say again...making these TFs/SFs soloable will make no difference how I continue to play this game, but I bet it will reduce teaming in the datamining results. -

If this was a democracy, you'd have a point. But since the devs make the rule, the only "argument" anyone needs is "because the devs have deemed TFs/SFs as team content."
[/ QUOTE ]
As Bill said, you are 100% correct, the devs make the rules. This is not a democracy, this is a business. Your point is also completely irrelevant to this discussion. Based on your logic, no player should ever bother making any type of suggestion for improving the game here on the forum. "Because the devs have deemed [....] as [....]" can be used as a basis to shoot down absolutely anything.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not my argument or my point. It's the way it is and if it was irrelevant you'd be soloing TFs right now. I never suggested players shouldn't take up their dislikes with the forums and post suggestions. I was merely informing you that, sometimes, "because the devs say so" is THE REASON.
[ QUOTE ]
The very subject of this entire thread, the new team difficulty settings, originated here on the forums, along with many other things that have been added to the game over the years.
*Still waiting for anyone to actually have a valid argument as to what is wrong with the idea of relaxing TF starting requirements.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because it removes more Team Only content in a MMO that the devs designed to be team oriented. -
Sometimes people have to leave. Don't take it personal, just find new teammates.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Absolutely true, Clouded. Which is why it's our lot to persuade the devs to change their minds when they make a decision that either lacks sense or no longer has validity.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's hard to find an acceptable reason for the team requirements. Perhaps the devs really do wish some content to be completed by more then one person to maintain the social/interaction aspect of the MMO. I.E. Forced teaming.
I don't mind either way really. I can usually find time once a weak for a shorter TF/SF, but I would probably run various TFs/SFs spread over days/weeks if I could set them up myself (without a team requirement). -

I'll state this again: What makes the TF/SFs special is NOT the minimum requirement. It's the content. Content that is being blocked to:
A: People with lives
B: People that don't like people
C: People that have life happen
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sick of this holier-than-thou attitude regarding players that have issues doing TFs, and the insinuation that people who can do TFs don't have lives.
Playing an MMO is just like any other hobby. If you dedicate time and energy to it, you can participate in all the content. If you can only play in short doses, or insist on soloing, then you may not be able to experience everything.
If you windsurfed a couple of times every year, you'd probably complain that the weeklong trip to the Caribbean was too much time and effort, and the tour company should make it so you can go down there for an afternoon to windsurf by yourself.
If you went dancing once a month, you'd probably complain that an exchange weekend was too much time and effort, and that you should be able to see all the amazing bands on your own schedule instead of traveling to see them all play the same weekend.
There are plenty of hobbies that I put less time and energy into than CoH, but I certainly don't make demands on the organizers of those hobbies to allow me to experience everything having to do with that hobby even though I'm only a casual participant.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nicely said.
It boils down to perception though.
I'm guessing Billz sees this as a game, and not a hobby. Unlike yourself.
EDIT: there's nothing wrong with that either. I wouldn't mind the ability to solo TFs when I can't find the time to join a group but I'm not delusional to think my wants are the majority nor the best for the vision/direction of the game either. I play because it's enjoyable, not really concerned about joining a TF or what other players are doing. -
You didn't lose any money. You paid for a service for 48 months and got 48 months worth of play. It sucks you lost the characters/vet rewards and I do hope there is something that can be done to help you, but try to avoid that last bit.
I would PM one of the community reps around here and ask if they can provide any measure of assistance. -

Castle, any chance doms will ever get illusion control? We have wanted this way more than the other sets. Its really the last thing that keeps doms from being equal to trollers. I just hope we at least get it by the time going rogue hits.
[/ QUOTE ]
1.) You use "we" like you represent all dominator players. You don't.
2.) Dominators shoudln't be "equal" to controllers. They're totally different playstyles and ATs.
Maybe someday doms might get Illusion but please stop acting like the mouth piece for dominator players. I'm excited about Earth Assault and will be testing out a Fire/Earth ASAP. -
Indeed. If my Fire/SR Brute had Combustion he would be an amazing farming machine.
-
Partly because the same people use KO Blow as their first or seocond attack or toss in a Footstomp rather then using their Tier 1/Tier 2 attacks.
The other reason is; "I don't know." -
You're not allowed to solo AVs with EM/ Primary anymore. Aren't you aware it's "teh gimpeh" after the changes.

Pitty really, before Ouroboros, they were pretty much the most dangerous melee faction in the game. Their bosses are broadsword scrapper-eque deadly.

Nah, the Vanguard are much more deadly. -

I apologize for being a wet blanket regarding getting claws. Last night I figured out a new concept for the set and plan to pair it with /EA. It could be a terrible combo, but it's still a brute and a terrible brute is still a strong character. -
I find myself pitying them with a good ole fist to the gut.

Wait till you play it. Brutes don't shun it for no reason
[/ QUOTE ]
They shun it because they have no clue. I love my WM/Elec brute. Then again, I love my Elec/EA brute as well. Maybe I'm just strange.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh please. If you felt that way you'd be posting in the 2 ELA threads. I'm guessing you solo alot.
Electric Armor is great for solo fighting. Unlimited endurance, medium resis to all, a strong Tier 9 for EBs and a nice damage aura that saps endurance from the baddies once PS does it's diligence of draining most of their end.
However, on teams ELA is not that great. It's easily overwhelmed especially with a damage aura attracting all the hate. As I stated before, Aid Self and Tough go a long way to round out the set but relying on a long animating, interruptable heal on a pure resistance set is a bad idea.
Lastly, KB protection is awesome...if you are not jumping or flying. This is a heads up to all you tankers that like to jump around in combat...don't unless you have Acrobatics or a -KB IO. Grounded loses it's immoblization and KB protection once you leave the safety of solid ground.
Clouded Story time.
I leveled up my EM/ELA Brute many moons ago, probably about 2 years. I didn't have much issue with being KBed while fighting since I didn't jump around much during combat. LR + Swift = nice movement. But when LGTF was first introduced I realized fighting Hamidon was impossible for my Brute. Everytime I jumped to attack a Mito...BAM...KBed. That was enough for me to drop Conserve Power (which rarely was used) for Acrobatics.

I'm betting Electric Armor will make an excellent Scrapper set for one reason; Tanks. Tanks on teams with scrappers take most of the aggro leaving scrappers less likely to take one a full alpha. Brutes are pigeon-holed into the Tank role on CoV so electric armor is right up front for the alpha. Sure the set is great with the Fighting Pool and Aid Self, but so would a blaster with an epic armor. -
Not to mention, the katana models aren't that much smaller then broadsword models. Sure there are exceptions.
Either way, moar options = moar better. -
