Hmmm, I wish to switch sides now due to the simple annoyance that this Marcus Cole person seems too little to be my Emperor.
The Resistance sounds to cliche' as well. What other groups remain that could use some support? I promise to bake cookies and I make a mean pumpkin cheesecake. -
My suggestions for EM has always been to make Total Focus a Thunderstrike clone but with a little less splash damage and more ST damage. I wouldn't mind the animation changed to something under 3s as well.
Oh, and I disagree with Billz. ET wasn't ruined, in my opinion. I enjoy the new animation and the nerf was long overdue. With that said, I have shelved my EM/ELA Brute but I blame WP, SR and the newly proliferated Claws more than Energy Melee (I only have time to play so many brutes. :P). -
If you want to debate KB then do so, but stating false blanket statements as fact only shows you are here to troll rather than discuss.
-
In that case, we might as well remove all the requirements and give them to a day old account right?
It matters because them's the rules and making an exception based on their spending power is a good way to piss of a large majority of veterans. And let's face it, there are more veterans and returning customers than new players in this game. -
Quote:After playing Regen, Dark Armor and Fire Armor...it's nice to have a set that requires less babysitting. The only problem with WP is that it looks boring and plays equally so. Super Reflexes is a good comparison, as it too is a toggle and forget set, but the possibility of rapid combat movement through Quickness, IOs, and Elude makes the set far more enjoyable.
The babysitting comment is meant for humor. -
Quote:It's not always about you. There are 7 other players on your team that may benefit from the KB. IF the mobs are still alive after some of them are knocked away from you, then they'll stand up and come running right back since Mudpots has a very taunt aura.I skipped to the end after reading some, but I'm not sure if it's been mentioned. On my stone armor character, I can guarantee you I pretty much hate all knockback that isn't used right (which seems to be most). If used on the mobs around me, it serves absolutely no purpose as mitigation since mud pots will keep everything on me, and granite might as well make me immune to damage. At that point I have to teleport to get back in range, and can easily lose agro on a bunch of things.
Anyone saying knockback isn't ever annoying, I challenge you to play a stone armor character with someone who seems to think it's their team goal to knock everything to every corner of the map and then tell me knockback powers are always fun and never annoying.
In other words, the mitigation from KB might not help your Stone Armor Brute/Tank but it might just give that squishy a little bit of breathing room. -
Quote:That was pretty funny. I bet you feel better too.It can be measure in annoyance. Which has always been my point. Not that you lose a few seconds.
I don't like having crap KB. I'll cop to what Ian derisively states. I don't want to have to hit W just because of some silly secondary effect I don't need. KB is annoying. It what I hate about my Peacebringer the most. I despise the secondary effect.
It's not a question of effectiveness.
I'M LAZY. There, I'll cop to it.
I'M AN EVIL MIN-MAXER WHO DOESN'T WANT MY KILLING SLOWED BY EVEN .01 OF A SECOND. There I'll cop to that too.
I'll cop to any silly put down you all want to throw at me about KB. I just don't like that secondary effect. I feel guilty playing my only character with excessive KB (the aforementioned PB). I leave teams with Stormies.
I just want a means to excise that terrible secondary effect from my game. I don't have any quarrel with folks who like to knock things all over the place. I won't be offended if you don't want to play with me. I play the following characters on Justice so you can be sure never to group with me:
Kyll, Little Frosty, Cute but Psycho, Solar Paladin, Fallen Princess, Shadow Nymph, Foxy Widow, Jungle Spider, Dao Knight, Radical Heat, Photon Flash (the PB), Warlord of Shadow, Floral Rage, Searing Solace, Biomecha (I hate when my robots KB too! Bastids), Poison-Pin, Flamewasp.
There. Please make a note. EvilGeko is an bad person who hates KB for completely selfish and illogical reasons.
But I still will argue for a choice to reduce this secondary effect to KD, because it would make me enjoy certain characters more and would lead to the just discrimination against those who knock mobs all over the place. It would lead to a cleansing where those who love KB are shunned. It would be glorious.
OK, I'm sorta kidding with that rant, but I still don't like KB. -
You want a real Panic Button? Grab Handclap.
Handclap...getting tanker's kicked from teams since 2004. -

Quote:You're also assuming the KB didnt kill the critters that were KBed. You're also assuming the Brute wasn't in any trouble of dying from all the aggro. That's cool, but it's dodging the point. Because knocking things out of auras slows down the killing, which interferes with a Brute's playstyle. But since that point is irrefutable, you ignore it.
Like I said, in THEORY, KB is determental to a Brute but in actual practice it rarely makes a significant impact on performance. If there is a impact on performance it can be measured in seconds. -
I have to agree with Uber. I've never met anyone that stated WP was a terrible set.
-
Quote:I think you mean, "...has now deprived my brute of their playstyle..." Each person might play a tad bit different. I've seen Brutes played like Tanks, Scrappers, Stalkers and..err...Brutes. Playstyles vary according to the player, not just the AT being played.
The Brute won't need his mitigation tools when the mobs are knocked into the next room or down a hallway but that still doesn't address the fact that KB scatter has now deprived the Brute of their play style, which is exactly what several proponents of KB in this thread have been saying "No KB" does to them.
To be honest, I enjoy a bit of chaos and a bit of surprise when I play on a team, and KB can provide that sometimes. As can the occasional Blaster/Corruptor tabbing and firing at the wrong enemy.
I understand where you are coming from Deus, but I think you are projecting a larger issue than what really exists ingame. I definitely do not know your experience, but after 5 level 50 Brutes I'm pretty confident with my assertion about KB vs. Brute. -
HI Deus,
I've been a long time Brute player and a SS/WP player since the WP set was introduced. I have a large variety experience with my Brute; from the RSF to farms, from Hami Raid to paper teams.
The situation you discribe is a rarity among rarities. If a Mastermind or Corruptor KBs my aggro away from RttC then I simply adjust and find the biggest pack to run towards. It's hardly crippling in anyway, whatsoever. I have never, NEVER died or even came to the brink of death from a mob being KBed away from my RttC.
In theory, your point holds true but in practical game play, from my experience, this type of situation is not something to hold has an argument against KB. -
Based on this thread, the point of Knockback is to allow players to create threads where self-importance and entitlement run rampant on both sides of the debate.
My opinion:
KB is fun, KB is super-heroy and KB is effective mitigation for the user. KB can be an annoyance to anyone using melee type powers or mitigation shields that require critters in range. Having been on both sides of the coin I can say that I would never ask or want this mechanic changed to suit my or anyone elses selfish desires. -
Quote:You're still missing the fact you don't determine "broad appeal." How do you know the recipes slots, etc do not appeal to a broad spectrum of players?I never meant to give the impression that I was unappreciative of the reward, but merely wondered why it wasn't something with broader appeal like the suggestion above.
This whole thread was created with a false premise; your opinion being the defining word on appeal. Newsflash...it's not. -
I'd like to weigh in on this topic.
I have a 35 Claws Brute that is itching to obtain the Vanguard costume (the blades moreso than any other piece). So I have parked him in RWZ for the dayjob at a greater chance for V Merit drops. It's an ok method but still tedious.
I have seen the announced for Mothership Raids on Freedom but taking a level 35 Brute against 54 Rikti is not fun at all. I'm next to useless against their resistances and would be a determent to my team. I dislike being dead weight and refuse to commit to a raid until at least level 45. I'm aware this is my own choice but I believe its the best move to avoid handicapping my teammates during the onslaught.
My point? Ten levels is sooooooooooooooooooo far away. I'll probably earn at least one costume piece by doing the entire RWZ storyline and some repeatables but it's still very tedious.
My suggestion is to add, at least, a 10 merit bonus for arc completion when completing any RWZ arc for the first time. -
Here is my planned build, currently level 36.

I think the moral of this thread is...
Ignorance is bliss. -

Quote:The above is pretty misleading. I highly doubt a Bane could out DPS a FM Brute in ST melee. Not to mention CC is a cone, while FSC is a PBAoE (I do know CC hits harder but I think you're forgettig about Fury). I'd like to see your DPS chains that conclude what you've typed.I'd go with the Bane. Team Buffs are crucial, and you will actually out DPS the Brute in every situation. Your pets, team buffs, and debuffs will be much better against AVs, and Crowd Control is far better than FSC.
Pretty much the Bane wins in single target damage, aoe damage, buffs, debuffs, but it can be hit harder by -def than SR. The Brute will be tougher, as soft capped SR with 95% ddr makes the game trivial.
Then add to the fact the majority of damage from a Bane's attacks consist of Smashing Damage which is resisted by the enemies in the ITF and LGTF. Fire Melee consists of some lethal damage but the majority is Fire which is one of the least resisted damage types by both enemies in ITF/LGTF.
Lastly, 95% DDR makes the SR Brute a superior choice on the ITF over any Bane. -
I could have sworn there was a WL in PO last night on Freedom.

Quote:You could re-calculate this since Ultimo confesses to two slotting endurance in his attacks which makes his claim even more of a falsehood.Good luck with those btw.
Near the base I'm going to assume level 35, and use those numbers.
Comm Officer has no resists and at 35 has 345 hit point
Repulsion Bomb is base 30 damage at 35- assume 3 even SO (95%) slotting and +18.75% buff from tactics - this should land about about 64.1 damage
Power Bolt base 30 damage (at level 35) - should land 64.1
Power Blast base 49 damage - lands for 104.7
Power Burst basebase 63.5 - lands for 135.7
Those 4 attacks should be doing 368.6 damage and presumably defeated the Comm Officer (you didn't state this either way)
Repulsion Bomb Base END is 16.9
Bolt is 5.2
Power Blast is 8.5
Power Bust 10.4
Explosive Blast 15.2
Total End on attacks (unlostted) = 56.1
Time (1.67 +1 + 1.67 +2 +1.67) = 8 secs
Toggles for 8 secs is a total of 20.02
Tough 0.33/sec = 2.64
Weave 0.33/sec = 2.64
Disp Bubble 1.07/sec = 8.56
Meaneavuers 0.39/sec = 3.12
Assault 0.39/sec = 3.12
With what you have said you used attacks wise and the toggles your said you are running you would have used 76.22 Endurance.
Base recovery (no stamina) for 8 seconds would be either 2 or 3 ticks of 5 end, lets assume worst case and you get 10 (At base recovery you get 5 end every 3 seconds).
Completely unslotted for endurance reduction in attacks or in the toggles and without having stamina the net use in the 8 seconds of action as described would be 66.22 in the absolute worse case scenario.
You start with 100 End.
The above scenario as described doesn't fit the game mechanics. What else did you have running ? Fly, Sprint, Ninja Run ? All of them ? -
Fire/SR Brute. The Bane is a good/fun build but I find the attacks slow and cumbersome compared to Fire.
I have one at 50 (softcapped without weave) and it's a devastating combination. I mainly team with him or run my Possessed Scientist map, so I didn't build for +recharge to solo AVs. My goal was to hit the softcap without weave and then pile on the HP/Regen. I'll PM you my build if you want to take a peak.
