I'm quoting myself because it seems my initial thoughts were correct based on the post from Dr. Aeon.
  2. She's not so bad. Pop a couple lucks and rage inspirations, and keep them going until she's down.

When the new arc was introduced in Cimerora I was all excited to test it and ran it on my Dark/EM tank. When I got to the end I ran into GW and popped nearly every inspiration I could click immediately. It was a pretty epic battle. I failed the first time but the second time I brought some Rage Inspirations along with Lucks and it went much smoother.

Of course those are auto powers so you don't have to worry about the issue of balance when the question of stacking comes up.
LR and Quickness are part of a secondary which is a different beast altogether. Adding a +speed to the primary would be interesting. I can see it going both ways.

I'd be pissed if they removed the EXP from AE, that's a terrible idea. I'm no RPer and I use AE quite often.

And this whole Ghost Town theory is bunk. There are many players, like me, that use AE to run other people's story arcs for entertainment and tickets. However, only the developers truly know the amount of players using AE, and I wonder if they can differentiate between players using it for farms, exploits or intended purposes.

  6. I love that people post level 50 common IOs for less than it costs to craft them. It makes slotting my character less time consuming once I hit 47 and realize my OCD is forcing me to replace my level 45 common IOs.

I'm guessing the KD component will work similar to how Energy Torrent works with KB, as in a percentage. I hope it's KD and 100% for that would be TOO awesome!

My guess is Siphon Power but I could see Siphon Speed + Siphon Power. However, you bring up a good point with Granite. Plus, would it be stackable?

This one might be a bit tricky but I was thinking it could be a -damage type power. I hope there's more to it of course.

I'm not sure we'll ever see another power like footstomp. If it contains the same damage as FS then look for an increase endurance cost, recharge cost or some other type of 'penalty' to balance out the damage.

I like your speculation...now they just need to start testing this set!!

Perhaps you are right and coding the AI to act differently is the best way to avoid such problems, but you should know by now that coding of that nature takes time and this was an exploit fix. Not to mention the AI in this game isn't the cream of the crop.

What I'm trying to say is, the devs could be squashing the exploit just to squash it. Then they will assign the lengthy task of fixing the AI the correct way which avoids punishing legit users of the allies.

    New Blaster

Yay! I'll be the first player in CoH to make a Rad/MM blaster!

    New Blaster

I'm looking to make a new character but my spots remaining on my home server are limited. So I want to make a character that is fun and effective. I have a Fire/Fire, Energy/Energy and Elec/Elec Blaster and now I wanted to try pairing powersets that aren't the same.

I want to stay away from re-draw issues as well so I'm thinking about rolling up a Radiation/Mental Blaster.

Has anyone created this combo that can provide some feedback on power selection and their preferred playstyle (range, melee, veng bait :P)?

    Thanks!

    Rad/Leccy

    Electric perhaps?
  12. Can you elaborate on 'the set looks clunky?' I don't understand what that means since the set's animations look pretty fluid to me.
  13. Claws is a relatively light endurance usage set so pairing with a secondary like INV or SR is a good choice. Right now my Claws/INV Brute is level 42 and is pretty fun. I do run into a bit of trouble against Malta for some reason but I can handle most anything else.

I also have a fire/SR Brute that is my favorite by far and probably the strongest of all my brutes. However, I haven't finished planning my build for the Claws/INV Brute so things might change once I put some time and infamy into his build.

In short, if you are looking to 'tank' then WP, SR and INV would be my first choices (in no particular order) followed by Electric, Dark, EA and Fire.
  14. I think my most fun characters are (in no particular order):

    Cold/Ice Defender
    Fire/Fire Blaster
    Energy/Energy Blaster
    Fire/SR Brute
    Dark/Sonic Defender

A new powerset should work with most of, if not all, of the origins.
What about weapon sets like Dual Pistols? Pretty sure it's exactly the same.

I'm a big fan of the passives since they were buffed. The only power I consider skipping in INV is Unstoppable. Not because of the crash either, that's easy to deal with but more or less because I just don't use it once IOed. It's the same reason I dropped Elude from my IOed SR Brute.
  17. If I'm trying out a new set then I try to take every power from the set as I level and then respec after I figure out what meshes with my playstyle.

    If it's a set I've played before...see above.

    You're preaching to the choir.

I was on a team sometime ago and once I hit 12 I said I'd be right back after slotting some DOs. There was a variety of lols, lolz, and lawls had by the teammates. I'm one of those folks who like non-stop action so slotting DOs will help my acc and help reduce my downtime for those 10 levels before SOs.

    Solo Brute?

At level 12 you shouldn't be fooling too much with the difficulty. -1/x2-3 would be ok with no bosses.

    A couple things to note...

    1. Build Fury first. Use Brawl (costs NO endurance) and Jab to build Fury quickly. Then you can drop the heavy hitters for better affect

    2. Vet attacks nom nom nom Endurance. It's true.

    3. Toggle shields based on enemies. If they are melee type, then de-toggle Ranged Shield et al.

    4. Slot some DOs. Sure, it sounds stupid but if you are having this much trouble then slot some END RDX DOs into your attacks and so forth.

To be honest, I found Shields to be pretty lame in the lower levels but I did choose to slot some DOs at level 12-17 which seemed to help out.

+range - The devs are saying it has extended range, they aren't going to say that if it is only 1 ft since it makes no difference. You know as well as I do it is likely to be more than that.
KB and KD - KD is good. KB is bad. KB on a melee toon is even worse. Even though KB can be used to reasonable effect it will always be less desirable than pretty much anything else. And KD doesn't even work on anything worth a scrappers time.
Video - In which nothing seems to die, now it is either a tank in the video, or the set does poor damage (As I mentioned it probably would). And you can see slow animations.

I fail to see any positives about the set at all so far, aside from it being pretty. This seems to be a melee version of Dual Pistols, ie; useless. You will be trading damage and speed for range and pretty.

Second the post about lag on the ITF may have had a bit much 'doom' about it, but he is right. The game is so full of bugs yet they keep releasing these crappy powersets to show off new visuals or whatever. And don't give me crap about 'dev a only does job a' a dev is a dev is a dev and can code whatever the hell they are told to code.

Edit: Also I still see no reason why a powerset like DP ever made it live. Surely by now they have some kind of formula which they can use to make a set not suck?
Is this a serious post? No really. I can't telll if you are pulling my leg or if you really just typed all this with a serious face. I really hope it's in jest otherwise I really don't understand why you pay for a service and product that makes you so unhappy.

Again, it's 'tons of knockback AND KNOCKDOWN. And we don't know have the numbers to know how much KB and KD exists in the set.

Again, 'higher range' can mean 1 foot, 3 feet or 10 or it could mean there are 2-3 range powers akin to Focus/Hurl. But since we don't have any specifics, we can only speculate.

This is getting a bit lame ya know. I want you to take a step back, take a deep breathe and then read the following...

    Ready?

    1. This is only a video and commentary about a new set
    2. No numbers or specifics have been released
    3. AE babies will **** up any team no matter what AT or powerset they choose

So stop with the doom crying about this set until we have more info to freak out about. Instead, let's talk about what we think will make up the 'higher range' et al.

You're worried about KB to the point of using hyberbole to make your point. This is where you start acting foolish.

KB is not a new mechanic and it's not limited to Kinetic Melee (ever hear of Shockwave?) nor is it limited to Brutes (ever hear of EVERY OTHER AT IN THE GAME?).

Here you blame the devs for messing with people and telling them they are giving us nothing. Then you start yammering about Unstoppable's crash and the lag on the ITF.

So, you are mad at the devs for giving us a new powerset. Then proceed to get more mad at them for giving us this set instead of fixing the lag on the ITF (which they did once before, believe it or not) and addressing the crash on Unstoppable (which is manageable if you would just ask how, or you can search for PowerSurge since it suffers from the same crash).

Here is why this is ignorant and why you sound foolish. The developers that create the new powersets are not the same ones that fix bugs (like the ITF lag). And Unstoppable isn't a bug, it's WAI.

There's a couple notables you shoud be aware of...

    1. Brutes are damage dealers
    2. Greater range might equal 9 feet instead of 7
    3. it's 'tons of knockback and knockdown
    4. inexperienced players will foul up any set
