Ok, thanks for the input so far gang.
What about powers? Anything jump out as superfluous or skippable? -

Hey all.
I've gone for a bit and recently returned to play some more pew pew. I was looking at trying out Kinetic Melee on either a scrapper or brute. Before I dive right in and start the process, I was hoping to get some feedback, positive and negative, about the set since it has been in the hands of players for a bit of time now.
So, what are some of the likes or dislikes for Kinetic Melee?
Are there secondaries that seem to benefit from a pairing with KM?
Do you prefer to play as a scrapper or brute with KM?
Thanks! -
Willpower and Invunerability are good secondaries but not the greatest for farming (if that is what you are after). Typically, you want to look at armor sets that contain a damage aura of some sort. Sets like /Fire, /Elec and even Dark are good for this purpose. Of course, I would be remissed if I did not mention /SD since it contains Shield Charge.

Quote:This is a good point. Defense sets, with softcapped numbers, is almost easy mode, and then you add Shield Charge and it just feels like cheating.Mids is still very reliable. Personally, I would go for SS/SD. I tend to prefer the superior safety of defense over resistance. On top of that, at level 35 you gain access to Shield Charge. That power is... amazing.
Conversely, a well built resistance set with a self heal/+regen like Energize can make you feel extremely durable. The durability of your brute is equally as addictive as the elusiveness of defense.
Either way you'll have fun. If you are shying away from spending gobs about of inf then you might prefer /Elec since /SD can take a bit of inf to softcap sufficiently. Well, I haven't been buying or selling much since the market merge (just re-subbed over the weekend) so softcapping might be cheaper or more expensive than what I remember. -
It's really going to depend if you prefer a resistance armor or a defensive armor set. Both combos can be made very strong and neither will disappoint, but the playstyles differ a bit from my experience.
What levels are the two brutes currently? -
Quote:I've been out of the game for awhile (just re-subbed last weekend) but I can take a stab at this question. In a way, I suppose it comes down to this: Were I convinced to go with Set Inventions, how much would I expect to HAVE to look for sets and enhancements below my level?
Answer: It depends.
It really does. It depends on the Set you are looking at, your patience level and the amount of inf you are willing to spend.
I've gone as low as level 35 for some enhancements on characters that I don't really feel the want to min/max to very high levels but most of the time I dabble in the 42-50 range because I have plenty of patience to wait for my bid to be fulfilled. -
I'm not new, but I did re-sub last weekend. So far I've completed the Incarnate story arc (which is pretty fun) and did a few tip missions.
Next up is trying to figure out a respec for my 30+ characters since Fitness is now inherent. Ugh. -
Looks like I picked a good time to resub.

I haven't read the past few pages but I just wanted ot make one comment.
When I play my brute in RWZ or Cimerora and a tank joins the team...it makes me happy. Why? I no longer have to worry about trying to maintain aggro, etc. Instead, I can now proceed to be the main purpose of my brute...to deal damage.
Let the tanks have their survivability and aggro control. I'd much rather just bash things in the face when I play my brutes. -
Quote:I have a characters that have obtained an additional 10-20% +damage from IO Set bonuses. Most of these characters obtained this +damage as a result of slotting for other factors. In other words, the +damage was gravy.
Granted, I could improve my damage/endurance efficiency by slotting for more damage, but I'm already kind of doing that by default, and it isn't enough. I'm looking for alternate means, and endurance slotting is the other obvious solution. The question is what to slot first and what to omit altogether.
Not awe inspiring but another 20% damage on my fire/fire blaster makes me feel better.
Quote:By the way, what people said before is true - if you want to deal more damage, you have to spend more endurance. Sometimes disproportionately more.
Perhaps I am not fully understanding the intent here. -
Perhaps you can reach endurance efficiency by increasing your damage output? Killing the same amount of critters with one or two less attacks would decrease your endurance consumption per mob/enemy.

My mind must be in the gutter because every time I see 'MF' in this thread it reminds me of something totally different. Think like Samuel L. Jackson and you'll see...
It made re-reading the thread much more entertaining. -
Quote:I wanted to quote this to make sure Ultimo saw it but that assumes I'm not ignored either...It's a very personal attack to state [REDACTED]
It's very much an observation of facts to say that you're a liar. Because you've lied, and you lied about lying and you've lied about lying about being a liar.
That said... you're not looking to do the impossible. You want an Iron Man analogue? It's very doable. But you don't do it by saying 'I have a defender, I will say he's Iron Man, therefore he should be able to do what Iron Man does.'
I have on my hard drive, a variety of builds that do some truly astounding things, by comparison to what their classes are 'supposed' to do. My empath is useless for healing, but runs around in laser fire untouchable and can slam down his nuke every fifteen seconds. He is without a doubt, a powerful character*, and he is doing the kind of thing you sound like you want to be done.
But it was not done easily, and it was not done by me mashing my face against the keyboard. I had to make decisions and learn to build and build well.
If you really do want these powerful characters, your best bet is not to complain on the forums, but to actually learn how to design and shape characters well. Don't just ask what people are doing, ask why they're doing it. Learn. And you will find yourself all the richer for it.
You cannot build 'outside the box' if you have no idea how to build inside the box. I am reminded of Johnny Butane's whining about tankers needing more damage; I have a tanker who routinely hits his own damage cap and obliterates spawns before scrappers can catch up. How much more damage should I have? I worked hard to build that character to do that kind of thing, after all.
* Frustratingly, since part of the character's concept is that he's not the powerful one, it's all his friends getting the buffs who are drawing on themselves, not the sidekick. -
That was great. Bill was a bit over board, but the rest of the thread was very fun to read.
Welcome back Ultimo. -
Congrats on 5 years Leo. You are a great member of the CoH community and I do enjoy a good Hamidon Raid when you take the reins.
On a personal note, my 4 years in CoH comes around in a couple weeks, but sad to say that I will be departing from CoH for awhile due to some real life matters.Unless, of course, anyone wants to pay for our wedding and new car so I can continue playing CoH?

Btw, EM has the best, next to Fire, ST DPS with SOs. It's mitigation is also extremely effective against a single foe. Where EM's stuns really shine is when you pair the Set with a synergistic primary or secondary like Dark Armor. I found my DA/EM tank very handy at making tough spawns into kittens. True, my damage was low for AoE and my use of ET or TF was saved for Bosses, EBS or AVs but that never mattered since I used him for teaming, and damage was brought by the damage dealers.
I love EM threads. You can saying anything in support of EM and watch the anti-EMers swarm like flies on ****.
Weeee, around the carousel some more! -
ELM/DA is better on paper than actual play. My first 50 Brute is an ELM/DA and while it's a nice concept the brute itself isn't that jaw dropping amazing compared to my Claws/INV, Fire/SR and SS/WP.

Ya, around we go again!
And to fan some flames. EM is fine as-is; great ST damage and mitigation coupled with poor AoE damage and mitigation capabilities. -

Umbral, you're nothing more than an internet tough guy. Learn to debate without being a ***** or stop debating. Your immature attitude destroys any argument you make and flushes your credibility down the toilet.
Why did you even make this thread? Did you want to show everyone your big brain? Unfortunately, your lack of civility trumps any intelligence you might store in that skull of yours. -
