"End Game for All: We have always wanted to provide a game that was open to everyone. We want you to feel powerful when you visit our world, and the Incarnate Trials will be inclusive, accessible, and easy to participate in. Not to say that it isnt some of the most challenging and exciting content we have ever provided, but we want to make it possible for you to participate in easily, without the need to belong to an elitist raiding guild and without surrendering your weekends for a small chance at rolling on a random reward. Now that many of you have begun your ascension to Incarnate, well be releasing the Rare and Very Rare tiers of the Alpha Slot in just a few short weeks to help you get a leg up on the launch of Issue 20."

Hopefully, the Trials will allow those who solo to participate. -
Quote:I can obtain every IO in this game through solo means. That is character advancement post leveling.Depends on how you define "advance." The "level shift" thing is a reward, nothing more. No matter how much I solo or team, I can't get to level 51. Can you? You keep interpreting the rare and very rare Alpha Slot rewards as something that is needed, but it's not, any more than very rare enhancements are needed to "advance" your character. It's merely something you want, nothing more. Something that is available for you to get, if you're willing to invest a few hours of time into it, just like everyone else. Something that makes many, many people very, very happy.
I cannot advance my character by solo means in the incarnate system as planned.
Quote:Like I've said, I've seen these same tired arguments erupt over Shivans, badges, and other such rewards. "I can't [read: don't want to] get these rewards because it doesn't suit my play style!" This is no different. Either do what's required to obtain the reward, or don't and don't get the reward. This game isn't written with the express intention of making Clouded or Eiko-Chan 100% happy to the exclusion of all else; it is written with the general goal of being the most fun for the most people. In that regard, it--and Issue 19 specifically, WST and all--has been wildly successful.
Quote:Really? In spite of the fact that we already have rewards in the game that are unobtainable without teaming? I'm not going to say that the devs generally develop content that is unsoloable, but please stop acting like it's completely unprecedented.
Quote:Citation, please. I want to see the quote or post where a redname has said that nothing in the game will ever require teaming up with other people, that everything will always be soloable.
Quote:It sounds to me like you're taking something someone said in a general sense and extrapolating it as some kind of solid promise of something that will always be true. For example, there's a huge difference between, "We try to make the game solo-friendly," and, "We will never include content that requires teaming up to get a reward." I don't doubt that someone has said the first quote in passing at some point, and the game is very solo-friendly. When you talk about "how the system was marketed to the player base," though, you are implying the second. I want to see that "marketing" that led you astray.
Quote:The Incarnate system is not "broken" and as far as I can see is working as intended. You unlock the Alpha Slot, gather components to create Alpha Slots, and the Alpha Slots created give your character enhancements, buffs, and what have you. There is nothing that is broken with the Incarnate system.
I quoted the word broken for a reason. Those quotes define how the term is being used. In this instance, broken defines the unfortunate circumstances that surround the required teaming for the incarnate system and character advancement.
Quote:The only thing some people have is a problem, nothing more and nothing less, just a problem. A problem with the way components for higher tier Alpha Slots are dealt out and how it breaks their style of playing this game. Also this problem only affects people that play solo and do not like to team. It really doesn't have any affect on the game itself, just the play style of those prefer to solo and don't like to team.
I lead my own STF this weekend but I do not see how it fair to prevent players from advancing their characters due to their inability to team for a variety of reasons.
I also don't see why ANYONE in this community would care if the developers gave us more options to obtain the incarnate abilities. -
Quote:The incarnate system is 'broken' in the fact it does not allow players to advance their character without required teaming. This is opposite of the past direction of the game and not how the system was marketed to the player base. However the WST (Weekly Strike Target) isn't broken, currently it's a working as intended feature. Players do the WST, get the WST reward, The Notice of the Well being one of them, and then move on, but I do see the gist of the problem you trying to point out. That in order to get the Notice of the Well reward you have to team up with others, that there is no alternative solo option available to get the Notice of the Well reward. That to advance through the Incarnate system players have to team up, and there is no alternative path other than the one currently present.

Quote:I feel dirty saying this...but I agree.Correct. Which is why we need to finish power proliferation and add Inventions where there are weak or incomplete choices (Targeted AoE) before we even think of spending the time to do pool and epic customization.

Just start running TFs until you find it.

Quote:That's why I was asking that poster for more info as to why they believe the trials are soloable. Just trying to curtail rumors which is probably a futile effort. At best we think the Devs are aware of the situation and, hopefully, realize how many people would be upset if there is NOT soloable incarnate content in I20. Unfortunately I don't think we can say, as of today, that the Devs have in fact GUARANTEED that's going to happen yet.

Quote:There's TWO other threads. Pick one and use it to bicker back and forth about the lack of solo end game options. When the stuff IN 19.5 isn't accessible to people who don't have the time to team, you're going to hear about it.
You can deal with it or help suggest ways for solo-oriented players to get the stuff in 19.5, since there's LITERALLY NO WAY for players who don't have time to team to access any of it in a time frame that isn't absolutely stupid.
Ugh, now I'm derailing. -
Quote:I hate to see this thread turn into another debate about the lack of solo option for the end game system. And if they're isn't they will alienate a fair portion of their playerbase who may cancel their monthly payments to ncsoft. Not something that nsoft can afford to have happen in any semi large quantity. They got hurt bad years and years ago when they introduced ED so they should know better
They going to be foolish enough to lock out all the other alpha abilities from those who solo? Not able to get that justice slot? or that omega slot, or any other slot?
I'd rather it focus on what is IN 19.5. -
Hey gang.
For some reason I thought there was a shortcut or time saving method when downloading the game client on a PC.
Am I hallucinating again or can someone tell me a way to save time when downloading the client to a new PC?
Thanks!
psssssssst. TGIF! -
Wow, thanks everyone.
On-topic:
I can see from a reward side how being 'gray' could be unbalanced. However, it's pretty neat that being gray allows the player to play with friends on either side of the game with the same characters. Not sure if that pro is enough to offset the reward imbalance that William is discussing. Time for me to read up on it! -
This might be a bit off topic but I have no idea what Hero or Villain merits are...I'm assuming it was something introduced in GR that I have yet to read up on.
Anyone care to provide a helpful link for a returning, ignorant player? -

Quote:ELM has only 1 more AoE than SS. LR is on a 90s recharge which makes it 'ok' for farming. Thunderstrike is a decent AoE but the cast time of 3.3s is terrible and the radius is less than half of Footstomp (TS does recharge in 18s, 2s faster than FS).What makes a good farmer? Lots of AOE that does good dmg and there are other sets that give you more AOE options than what SS can offer you.
Build up an elec/fire then come talk to me about who knows what.
The true test would be two brutes, one SS/Fire and Elec/Fire and both using the same Epic powers. Have them each run the same map 3 times and note the average time. -

I agree with the above posters that you should post your build for better feedback.
However, and I typically do not post such negative replies, but I find my ELM/DA brute to be lack luster and sub par compared to my others. I outfitted him with all sorts of IOs and have tried numerous builds and none were good enough for my level of acceptability. My ELM/DA brute is 50 and is currently shelved having been stripped of the IOs for other characters.
It could be that ELM/DA is not the combination you find most entertaining, and that's ok. -

Quote:This brings up a good point. Discworld is cool.Okay, in Discworld, a person can be born with a talent for, or an affinity to, magic. This makes a wizard or witch a mutant (because not everyone has it). They do have to study to refine what they can do with it though.
A person in Discworld can also get magical powers from Faustian pacts or the like. That's clearly magic.
Tiffany Aching was not born with a talent for magic, but through sheer bloodymindedness, she is able to be a witch. She is natural.
They are all doing magic, though. -
Quote:Depends. Did they learn the spells from studying manuscripts or are their powers a gift from a object or person? So a human hero who learned magic spells is Natural, because the ability to learn magic is natural to humans?
Studying = Natural
Object or personal influence = Magic -

I'd start by checking your slotting and stats. But I've also got a couple questions.
Are you using SOs, IOs and/or Sets? How did you slot Energize? Did you take Lightning Field? -
Good to know. Thank you.

Once again, thanks for all the feedback. I've decided to make a KM/Elec scrapper which lead me to another query. I posted that question in the Scrapper forum for more advice.
-
Back in the game and looking to make a new scrapper for GR, I'm leaning towards a KM/Elec scrapper that will eventually be a villain. Being a planner, I download Mids and start building. When I get to the APPs, I decide that Mu Mastery seems to fit my character's concept nicely. Then I come across Mu bolts.
Mu Bolts (using Mids):
End: 6.5
Recharge: 6s
Range: 80
Cast: 1.17s
Damage: 125.12 (all energy)
Not bad but then I realized I had already selected a ranged power from the primary, Focused Burst.
Focused Burst (Mids):
End: 8.5
Recharge: 8s
Range: 40
Cast: 2s
Damage: 112.86 (32% energy damage)
Damage Buff: 32%
Damage Debuff: 5.625%
So, comparing End, Recharge, Range, Cast, damage type and damage...MB (mu bolts) comes out looking like a much more attractive option. The only thing FB (focused burst) has going for it is the damage buff and damage debuff.
However, I wonder if this truly offsets having more recharge, more end use, less damage, longer cast time and lower damage than a APP power. Is the damage buff really going to help you since this is a ranged power and the power has a 2s cast time?
In my experience with melee characters, the main reason I have ranged power at all is to catch a runner which would make the damage buff and debuff nearly useless.
Thoughts?
