Cricket!! How we have missed your mighty ban stick

I am glad things are going well for you in those other games, I would have loved to get into testing for some of them but my luck didnt swing that way.

Ya don't have to be a stranger ya know!

    Take care and have fun
  2. Samuel_Tow -> Lineage 2 if I am not mistaken - I tried that game out and left it quick.

I love CoH for alot of the reasons stated here (especially the 'fun' factor). On the other hand.. I enjoy the other game the OP talked about, I don't know why but I do. There are many things that game does right compared to other 'similar' MMO's.

Please don't just bash it because you didn't like it - it wasn't your cup of tea, great! It won't be for everyone.

That all said - I will never leave CoH in the near future. I have had too much fun here, and enjoy the whole idea and system too much.

    Just ran it. Failure.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was on JMJ's team. We needed more debuffs. We had a good team and played well. I'm never happy when someone quits a TF, but we managed pretty well with 7 until the level 54 AVs. They took forever and a day.

I'm sure we would have been fine with a full 8-man team of Shivans, hell, we could probably call it an easy cake-walk, but I'd rather play with teammates than pull those things out every TF. Shivans should not be more valuable than teammates. It was late and I wasn't about to suggest a run to Bloody Bay.

So that was my 2nd failure at the TF (not counting the time there was a server reset and my team never got back together). Despite the failures, it's more fun than the LRSF, which I will probably never do again.

Nah, its not a cakewalk with 8 players x 5 Shivans :/ - Recluse is a heck of a heavy hitter until you take down the Red tower (Acc/Dmg buff tower) - he eats Shivans for breakfast.
  5. Just a note - I know everyone who goes to get Shivan's wants to have everyone get them, but it is often easier to keep one person in the mission [maybe a dead person for veng bait when you re-enter the mission] so that it doesn't reset.
  6. Oh ya.. I almost forgot about the Heatseaker badge..

This mission is fun - I might just have to jump in and help Tundara again [I am very good veng bait ]

Ye who were in the closed beta know what that is about. That is all.

I can account for # 3 of Tundara's run of luck
  8. I have always had the same sentiments. They tend to get lost in the uproar though.

I don't pretend to know why people do that sort of thing, but I know it has to be frustrating for those with the Red/Orange names.

    I don't '/sign' things, but I am in agreement.

    1. PROBLEM: No new character/player guidance=

Unlike villains who get directed to the next island after they have exhausted their missions on Mercy, nwe players get no such direction to Kings Row.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well usually you get a contact in Kings Row by level 5 (this is the guy that normally sends you to the Hollows) so in that respect it is better than the Villain side where there is a chance you won't get told to go to the next area [I had this happen to me on my first villain, I did burkes missions (most of them) and leveled too fast - outgrowing the zone. I had to ask on Broadcast where to go because Burke just gave me 'I don't have anything for you right now' without telling me to move on (I didn't get the second contact in Mercy so I think that was the problem)]

The story arc icon may be randomly popping up. My teammate and I were doing missions for Timothy Raymond of Nerva Arch. in CoV. As seen on Red Tomax's site. We duoed the elimination of Kit'Vul, and received the icon after completing the kidnapping of the Crey Scientists. We realized something was up when he was given Thornbird, and I was given Timothy's sister. We completed his Thornbird, where he recieved Timothy's sister. We duoed that one, and I received Thornbird. We completed *that* one, and both of us recieved Save the Arachnos Lab.

This was a play-by-play of our first night with Timothy. We haven't yet gotten to wiping out the Rikti--which is the start of the ACTUAL story arc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That might be related to how a story arc can open up for you before even doing the starting mission [which was impossible to tell before the icons of course]. This is what led so many of us to be stuck with grey arcs at higher levels - even if you never take the actually starting mission for the arc, the arc can still be opened and locked into one of the arc slots. I guess what you saw with the icon is this happening in real time at least we have an indicator now.
  11. I believe the temp powers are the same as the like level Mayhem Mission powers on villain side [there are some lists of them floating around somewhere]. I am not sure what you mean by 'zone specific'? do you mean are different powers tied to different SGM's? If so then yes [just like Mayhem Missions]. You can only get the Raptor Pack in the Atlas Park SGM, the Jump Pack in the Kings Row SGM, etc. If you are too high of a level to get that SGM you can get on a lower level team and exemplar down [or not] to run their SGM and get the power as long as you haven't gotten it before. The temporary powers have a minimum level you have to be to get them from that level SGM - lower than that level and you can't get the power, but there is no high level cap on them.
  12. I had some more SGM experiences over the weekend - all the Founders Fall SGM. The first 3 times were on teams, the 4th was solo. All of this was on my 42 (now 43) Katana/Regen Scrapper.

The three teamed SGM's were ok - we went to the bank, took down the robbers and got the mission complete fairly quickly [the second time I did the SGM this weekend I had a CoH crash right before clicking on the truck to enter the mission - by the time I logged back in the main boss was already defeated]. Things tended to devolve after the robbery was over; team mates would spread out all over the map and we never got side missions done [compared to the SGM I did on Test when before I8 was released live, where I managed at least one side mission on my Elec/Elec blaster]. The AV (barracuda) in one of the SGM's was tough but defeatable.

Side Note: During this period of teaming I also ran quite a few police band missions - my brokers contact bar in PI got 1/3 of the way full before I even talked to him to get my police scanner?! Plus it counted 3 of the police band missions I did with others as credit for my contact [I figure this because you need 5 to get an SGM at that level and I only had to do 2 more to get one]

The solo SGM I did was a failure from Hades. The enemy was a red conned Boss [the Daemonic guy mentioned above - I do like his dialogue though 'Yes, feel the hate...' ]. Now for perspective this is a Katana/Regen scrapper - I can solo on Rugged fine, and even do well against +3 bosses and LT's. I have all of my regen powers slotted for effectiveness [I do not have MoG].

Anyway, I get to the bank quite quickly by flying high over anything and positioning myself on the front side of the bank before closing to the door [to make sure I can get in as quick as possible after the 'Bank is being robbed' message]. I run in the door and the robber is right there [I guess he just zoned in to the bank too ] - 10 seconds later he kills me through DP & IH(?!), I use my self rez and start beating him again. I got him down to 1/4 health but he killed me again - his hits were taking 1/4 to 3/4 of my life at a shot! While my attacks were barely scratching him [even with Build Up + Soaring Dragon]. 38k debt later [would have been more but I already had the Life Insurance temp power from a previous SGM] and I fail the mission. What powers does this Daemonic guy have? I know he has is a Fire/something [Why the heck does fire have to hit me so bloody hard?].

A little frustrating, but I like SGM's overall - I just guess I will have to lower to Heroic [spending the influence] each time I want to do one.

Oh - a crazier note. The boss was red conned but was even level? I got the SGM at level 42 and was 43 when I started it.. so theortically the enemies should have been even con/+1 right?

Not my best performance - but the 5th debt badge is closer than ever

I think the safes need to scale up in level, so an AV faces a slightly more challenging safe inside the bank.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is untrue in my experience. When I faced Barracuda, the bank vault was busted open before the entire team had even finished zoning in. Whereas versus a normal villian in a different version of the same mission didn't get through it until we'd reached the bank's outer doors. The AV broke through the vault significantly faster.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe you misunderstood MadScientist - he is saying that the vault doors need to scale up, not that they do. MadScientist wants it so the AV will have to take longer to take down the door, unlike currently where the AV can sneeze and bring the door down. (I bolded the key word in the post you quoted)

Hey guys, our plan is to get you new Issues three times a year.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I remember the days when it was "4-6 new issues a year". I'm doing the math on the original "2-3 months per issue" that we had at the beginning.

In the meantime, we've had massive staff cutbacks. A shame, that coincidence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    NCSoft had cutbacks, not Cryptic
  16. The zone is open (except for the hazard zone section of it), the spawn levels are geared towards the new zone level 'requirements' though - it would be like heading to Steel Canyon at level 5.
  17. I love this spine tingly part:

  18. You think you know me? Just because you see me on the streets in my flashy costume? Just because I save you from some thugs, you think you know me? Do you know what goes on in this head of mine? Have you seen the darkness of the sunlight and heard the voices of the damned? Feh! You know only your solitary and meaningless existance, you know nothing of the world around you and yet talk as if the world is your plaything. Do you truly wish to know the man behind this mask? Beware of your wishes, for I can make them come true. Let me tell you of the man behind this mask, let me tell you of the soul within this man - and then, maybe, you will understand how little you know.

I see the darkness within us all, and I see the light within the dark - do you hear the voices of death and mayhem? No, I thought not. I wake every day into night, and sleep with the cries of those who I have condemned. The shadows embrace me even as I cast them from me, the past haunts me even as I seek to atone for my past transgressions. Quiet.. do you hear them? The voices who tell us how to act? Of course you do not, you are but a pathetic strip of flesh who cries for assistance and dares to think you know who I am. They tell me many things you know, like how that thug there only wants to be accepted - how his crimes are just a manifestation of the very shadows around us all. They tell me of the end of the world, and prod me to join them. I cast them out, however, and seek to do right by this infested world. They know of the blood on my hands and on my clothes, the same hands and clothes that seem so clean to you; the same hands that protect you, the same clothes that provide a beacon of hope in your otherwise miserable life.

Yes, I see I am disturbing you now, the look in your eyes shows me you do not wish to believe me. Very well citizen, I shall not twist your mind with further words, I will continue to save your pathetic soul when I can; but know this, you are just a mote of dust in the eye of eternity - eventually you will be gone and there will only be darkness. Think on this "good" citizen, and remember that the darkness is always there - whether it be outright and evident, or clothed in a gaudy costume protecting your valueless life.

((This is my first attempt at fanfic, it is a small beginning to a much larger story and a character with a very conflicted past and future. This character is not a 'villain' hero - but rather a true hero overcoming the darkness in his soul to do right. His name will be released with a future story - but tell me what you think please ))
  19. ((Ahh.. I thought Germany might have had an influence - I can never remember details like that ))
  20. (( Very good story! I gotta nitpick about one thing - its 'flak' it is actually a technical abbreviation of sorts, 'flack' is a civilianized term for giving someone a hard time ))
  21. Hmmmmmmm..... Really? What constitutes a Vet The_Jerk? I have only been here 6 months or so [well not quite 6 months ] so in your translation I am not a vet and do not deserve awards? I WANT ME MAH REWARDS! <insert overused line about being just as valuable here>*

*Note, anyone who takes the above paragraph to be serious needs to get their head examined.

I won't bring any debate about VR into this whole thing I like most of yall who are vets of the game [Being a RL Vet is a much different prospect, so I can cal most of the people on the boards "You People" according to The_Jerk's terminology ]

I actually enjoy street hunting and skipping the hollows [I do enjoy the Hollows now and then though] and I enjoy finding new parts of KR that I haven't seen yet. It took me a while to find the bloody Lost in KR but I stuck to my guns and won the day. [Well, sort of... not really the day... but the mission at least]

I truly feel old; not cause of the game though

  23. For those at work:

    Letter from Positron (Matt Miller)
    Wednesday, September 27, 2006

    Hey everyone!

I’m coming up for air to let you know about some of the impending stuff happening in the City of Heroes and City of Villains games. It’s been pretty crazy around here getting Issue 8 ready to hit Training Room, and we hope we can bring you all some exciting news about that in the very near future.

By now you may have read about Cryptic Studios and Microsoft’s upcoming new venture and we at Cryptic want to assure our loyal players that we and the good folks at our publisher, NCsoft, are fully committed to City of Heroes and City of Villains. We have a full team of programmers, artists, designers, and producers devoted to creating and maintaining the best experience in the “City of” world of games. This team is, and will remain completely separate from other teams working on other games at Cryptic. Like fantasy, sci-fi, and simulation, comic book heroes is its own genre, capable of supporting multiple titles. City of Heroes was created with a single purpose: bring the world of comic book heroes alive. With that in mind, Cryptic is investing resources into our “City of” team to fully realize its own unique vision.

I’d like to start out by mentioning Issue 8: To Protect and Serve. This is a hero-centric Issue that finally levels the playing field between Heroes and Villains. We have a ton of stuff being added with this issue that will please a variety of players. It begins the multi-year storyline that continues next year with Issue 9 (title to be announced). I9 brings with it a huge new gameplay system: Inventions. Players will be able to craft Enhancements and Costume pieces for their characters using recipes, and salvage that they find while adventuring.

Issue 9 will also have Statesman’s Task Force, the Hero equivalent to the Recluse Strike Force. Both of these mission chains are designed for eight max-level characters and have some of the best rewards in the game.

Issue 10 is a ways out, but it will bring us an update to an old familiar villain group. This group will have their power center altered and bring about massive changes to the game as a whole. Heroes and Villains will find themselves banding together against a common threat.

We will begin to reveal our plans for Issues 11 and beyond over the next year or so. We feel confident that you will be as excited about our plans as we are!

So as you can see, we at Cryptic and NCsoft have great plans for the future and want to keep making the “City of” games exciting and fresh. Our motto going forward is “Listen to the players and give them what they want (within reason, of course)”. Expect a lot of oft-requested features and ideas to be implemented in the upcoming issues!

    Sincerely,

    Matt Miller (Positron)
