  1. What your characters can and can't do in a story is limitied only by your imagination. What they can and can't do in game is limited by game mechanics. Would it even be possible to create a game where everybodies' characters could do anything a person could think of for them to do? A single player game maybe, but an MMO?

We're all slaves to the game's limits in the game, but outside we have the creative license to express our characters in a way that better fits our view of them. Could a natural human take down the Kronos in a comic? Sure, but not by beating on it with his fists. In game? No, because there are no alternatives to beating on it to defeat it. In game you have to accept what the game limits you to, but outside there is no reason to apply those same limitations to your stories.

As far as the "I like pie" one, I do - as long as it's Marie Callendar's Kahlua Cream Cheese Pie. Their Chocolate Satin pie is good too. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I don't know about that - a lot of people have said they hate cutscenes, even if I WERE to be the one creating them.

I don't mind the CoH cutscenes much, they're too rare to be much of a bother. I just wish they were like the ones in Guild Wars that feature the player's character moving about and talking along with the game characters. They have male and female voices for whichever your character is and show you in whatever clothing/armor your character is wearing at the time.

I've been a fan of D_R's vids for a long time now and while it would be nice to see her efforts rewarded with gainful employ, I'd be concerned her freedom to make them the way she wants and likes could be restricted to making them fit some marketer's script. Which may be why the ones made by the official folks tend toward the less than stellar variety.
  3. I found the movie to be quite entertaining, in spite of the differences from Joe lore. By now nobody should be surprised that Hollywood has problems with staying true to source material. All I hope for from a movie is that it will entertain me for a while, and this one did, so I decree it a successful movie. Not an award winner, but it did what it was supposed to do.
  4. Doubt they're tragic enough to win a cookie, but here goes.

That's because of shipping charges. Do you have any idea how much it costs to train kangaroos to be mail carriers?

I guess that means we'll be getting a pit hair costume pack.
  7. This is a good example of how perserverance pays off. Myself and several others have asked for this since the game launched. It really should have been a no-brainer that people would want to be able to customize how thier powers would look. When I first started playing I was actually surprised that we we couldn't change the powers' colors. Kudos to the devs for finally deciding to take the time to do this, and kudos to those that kept bringing it up and thereby showing the devs how badly wanted this feature was in spite of a segment of the forum posters raking them over the coals whenever someone would suggest it.

I'd be willing to do it if you haven't got any takers yet. These things are too much fun to pass up. You or him just pm me a pic of his character and I'll add the fleas.

I was paired up with Bayani. He sent me info on his villain, Salarin. Here are the pics sent. headshot. full body and his bio info.

Reynaldo Gaudiel was an engineer for the Filipino government, specializing in agricultural technology until his weather-controlling prototype rendered over 20% of Filipino farmland unfertile. He left the Philippines in disgrace and moved to the United States, where Crey Industries hired him to design new armor suits for security deployment. His designs were initially successful, but the project was eventually shut down by the hero known as Bayani. In order to cover up the mess, Crey decided to eliminate all project members and targetted Reynaldo for assassination. Reynaldo, ever the survivor, took several of the suits for himself and vanished to the Rogue Isles to escape both the law and Crey. He now works as a mercenary, selling his services to the highest bidder.

And now, for my take. The theme was 'classic' so I tried to make him into a golden age character, but since I've never really been good with all that 'age' stuff he is probably more a mix of the gold and silver ages, but hopefully still fitting the 'classic' image.

First the bio. Since I went for a golden age look I figured I would transport the character back into the golden age timeframe and see how different circumstances could lead to a completely diffeernt result.

Reynaldo Gaudiel was an engineer for the Filipino government, specializing in agricultural technology until it became obvious the tensions prior to WW2 would plunge the planet into conflict. He turned his technical prowess toward ways of aiding the Phillippine military, as he had suspected Japan would use any such conflict as an excuse to aggressively expand it's empire across many coveted areas. The attack happened much sooner than he had expected and he was forced to take his research and go into hiding during the Japanese occupation. Unable to aid the military he instead experimented with ways of augmenting himself. The result was a powersuit that gave him special abilities, enabling him to take the fight to the enemy. He was instrumental in finally driving the invaders out and was proclaimed a national hero by the Philippine government.

    And the pic.

As a Filipino, and an Artist...

I really like your costume except for the helmet, even though I get the concept. I think it would work better if he didn't have the mask to hide his "classic" Filipino features, after all this isn't Captain Generic Asian...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did take long looks at both the technis and diablo mask options, but I've always been of the mind that a hero needs to protect his/her identity in order to protect loved ones and relations, so it came down to the mask or blast goggles. I went with the mask because I thought the earpieces made the cyborg hat look more old fashioned in a Flash Gordon sort of way, and with them being in the same slot as the goggles I couldn't use both.

He bought the game when it hit the shelves in 04 and quickly noticed that people were ignoring how the pvp areas were supposed to be used?

[/ QUOTE ]Or maybe he noticed the complete absence of PvP in '04?
Because, y'know, there wasn't any PvP at launch.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I take it you didn't read past my first sentence.
  13. He bought the game when it hit the shelves in 04 and quickly noticed that people were ignoring how the pvp areas were supposed to be used? Quite a feat when they didn't even exist back then. Pvp came with the much later addition of the arenas, and even that was before villains showed up. The whole thing sounds bogus to me. The pvp zones are for players to fight each other, tping them into the drones isn't any more as intended than the standing around chatting that seemed to offend him so much. There was no research. He behaved in a manner he knew would get the reaction from people he wanted then pointed at thier reactions while pretending to be an innocent little player just trying to do what he was supposed to do in the zone. He obviously had pre-existing assumptions on gaming and social communites and tailored his so called research to provide what he wanted it to. Of course the tribe will whack him with a stick since he only acted to agitate them and not to become a member of the tribe. What was he 'researching' in the year from launch until CoV brought the pvp zones? I think he got caught playing games on the company dime and came up with the whole 'reasearch' thing to cover his backside.
  14. I think he tailored his behaviour knowing how people would react to what he was doing so he could get the results he wanted in order to back up his obviously pre-existing opinions on social groups and gaming communities. Not real research at all, just geared to get what he wanted. Of course that tribe is going to whack him with a stick, he came in with the purpose of agitating them, not becoming a part of the tribe.
  15. Here's my take on him. You didn't say how alien he is so I just went with humanoid with yellow skin and warrior caste tattoos. If there's not enough white it can be used to replace either color on the flight suit pants without interrupting the flow, I think. I didn't want to give him too much tech stuff since I figured he would have been stripped of whatever uniform and weapons he had when he was exiled, so he had to make do with what he could find and/or make on the crashed ship.
  16. I've been playing since launch but I didn't get around to making a character using my forum posting name until around a year ago. Clobbertime is DM/regen scrapper fighting the good fight for justice!
  17. I'll give it another go. Not too keen on the themes thing though, seems kind of limiting.

what is in the latest patch notes? I'm not sure if this is included in the upcomming Super Science pack or open for everyone, but in Icon there will be a new contact that lets you change your height and body type!!! You can go from 4' tall guy/girl to 9' tall Big body type.

Good for Hulking out, or armored heroes getting on their heavy combat armor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It'a part of the science pack so if you have any characters that need such a feature you will have ot pay extra for it. Welcome to City of Mo Money Mo Money Mo Money.
  19. How's this? I know it doesn't have the rocket boots but my characters that do don't have a shield and my one shield character don't have rocket boots, so I just made a character to show the costume.

The remake of Rainbow Jester I did for Tuter King is back on page 4. I don't think he cared much for my costume work but he did seem to like the bio I did up for him.
This was fun and I'm looking forward to the next round.

Would he be geeky enough to try to dress up like an homage to Zorro or the Three Musketeers, if he's into old movies?
