    Dear Devs,

Could you please just go ahead and make Tankers brokenly overpowered so Johnny will shut the hell up about it?

    Thanks,
    Claws.
  3. *shrug*

I've been happy with my DA/Staff tank so far.

Only level 18 currently, but it's performing about how I expected. Enough damage to kill things in a reasonable time frame (meaning I'm not expecting to clear maps in 2 minutes), and it gives me enough extra survivability I'm not feeling much pain from playing a low level DA.

Once I hit 20 my end problems will largely disappear as well.

I'm chalking this up to people not knowing how a set works best yet and knee-jerking all over the place. I recall a lot of threads saying how bad Titan Weapons was in the first week or so too, and now it's being hailed as the best thing since sliced Super Strength.
  4. And more on topic:

After having played Staff Fighting for a little while, I haven't found it especially weak. I'm defeating things in a reasonable time span, and te defense boost from Guarded Spin helps a bit with my survivability.

I'm playing it on a DA/Staff Tanker, and I've set my difficulty to x4 at level 17 while soloing, and doing just fine with it. I have only done that one time before and done just as well, with a Claws/Fire brute. My personal experience here is telling me that Staff Fighting isn't as underpowered as some people are claiming.

Maybe it lags behind a bit in ST DPS in the late game, but its AoE output is enough to make up for that in my opinion.

Comparing a set to sets that are brokenly overpowered and saying they suck when they don't perform the same isn't a good metric of how good a set is.

Some sets do perform better, I'm not arguing that point. But what's being ignored is that Staff Fighting can do things those other sets can't. It's the only set I know of that alleviates endurance problems for sets like Dark Armor using only SOs. It's also the only set in existence that can increase your damage resistance as well as defense (which you can do consistently with enough recharge).

Using just SOs, Staff Fighting doesn't need to slot any end reduction in its powers at all, something only certain combinations can say (Regen and Willpower coming to mind with other sets). It doesn't matter what you pair it with in Staff Fighting's case. Since you don't have to slot for end reduction, you can slot another recharge reduction in your powers instead, which will increase your recharge in those powers more than Form of the Mind will. And since you're attacking faster, you should be dealing more damage in the long run than Form of the Body's damage buff will achieve.

Slotted with just SOs (which, believe it or not, the game is still balanced around), Staff Fighting's utility powers actually DO make up for dealing less damage than the best performing sets. Saying it sucks at the absolute bleeding edge of performance isn't accurately representing the majority of the people's experience playing it, because 90% of the people playing it are not going to reach that level of performance in the first place.
  5. More to the point, I didn't respond to your bating (which you seem to be a master at) before for a couple reasons:

    1) I don't really care if you believe me.

    2) I have better things to do with my time than argue with an internet bully.

You've earned a spot on my ignore list right next to Fire Minded and City Life, which should give anyone who remembers them a good idea how worthless I consider your opinion.

    Have a nice day.

What, you mean when I said that 2 or more blasters or corruptors can kill an entire spawn before a scrapper can reach it to attack?

    I stand by it.

You twisted what I said to make it sound like I was saying that a single corruptor was doing that, which I never said.

It did happen. A blaster and a corruptor combined were obliterating spawns before my scrapper could get to them to attack.

If you want to call me a liar, that's fine, I think personal attacks from the likes of you are amusing. But if you're going to do so, call me a liar about what I actually said, instead of twisting what I said and then calling me a liar.

I wouldn't have bothered to respond to you here, except someone else quoted you so I actually saw it.
  7. Slot Soul Transfer for as much recharge as youi can squeeze into it.

If you build a Dark Armor character that completely ignores any and all defense slotting, you'll need it back up as fast as possible.

I speak from experience here. I have a BS/DA scrapper that was almost deleted dozens of time before I figured out a good build that adds defense. If you are taking 50% of the hits that come your way while main tanking any mission in the game, you are going to eat floor. A LOT.

That's why Dark Armor and Fiery Aura have self-rezzes as their tier 9.

For the record, I too am leveling a DA/Staff tank. Maybe once our builds are finished we can hold a contest to see whose build tanks better. I'll have just as much resistance as you, and I'll have better defense (once I figure out a build, at least). It's not hard at all to build a DA tank for defense without gimping other areas.

This is why I'm baffled by the whining right here.

The set, in and of itself, solves the problems you need IOs for with other sets.

If it did that AND was a top performing set in both ST and AoE, it would be incredibly overpowered.

You are not going to get everything awesome rolled into ONE set. Just not going to happen.
  9. Dump TP Foe, for starters.

Pick up Spin at 6. Dull Pain at 10. Focus at 18. Resilience at 20. Hasten at 22. (You can take Hasten earlier if you want, but I wouldn't take it later than 24, my build has it very late, but I never exemp with it so it's fine for me)

Work the Fighting pool in somewhere. Pick up Eviscerate and maybe Shockwave. Take MoG at 38.

It's pretty difficult to screw up a Claws/Regen to the point of unplayability, but if you follow that general guideline you'll be in good shape.

Control/Pets would be brokenly overpowered I think.

Earth Control paired with something like Bots?

Your enemy won't be able to fight back at all, and the bots would never miss due to all the -def in Earth.

Fire Control and Demons? 9 pets running around beating on things that are completely locked down and helpless....no that's not overpowered at all.

Sounds like the Control option that lets you mimic Scourge will be the best bet if you want to increase damage.

Scourge technically being a critical hit will allow you to deal damage over the damage cap, because all the critical hit type mechanics in the game will deal above damage cap damage when they land.

Stalkers have a better base chance to crit than scrappers. 10% vs 5%, so they'll crit twice as often before any other factors are considered. Combine that with the ability to crit at will via Hide, the ATO proc in AS, and Placate and it's no surprise that stalkers land more crits than scrappers.

Considering Staff/SR myself, but I'm not sure what AT I'm going to use yet. What I said in this post is a strong point in the favor of stalker.

  15. Gonna try it with SR I think.

Don't really care if it's not the new SS/Fire. Dealing stupid amounts of damage with brokenly overpowered combinations isn't why I play the game.

And with the Stalker ATO slotted into Assassin Strike, you can crit with Concentrated Strike every time.

    Works like this:

The ATO proc will put you into Hide automatically when it goes off. It's a proc per minute formula based on the base recharge of the power.

Since AS's base recharge is so high, it will proc every time in it.

Concentrated Strike will automatically crit when used in Hide.

    Thus, you can run an attack chain of Build Up>AS>Concentrated Strike>Build Up>Next heavy hitter>filler attack>AS>Concentrated Strike>Build Up>etc.

It requires a lot of recharge to do, but once you reach that level of recharge there isn't much in the game that will beat it for single target damage output.

Also, KM's PBAoE (Burst) has a 100% chance to crit from Hide, unlike most AoEs which have a 50% chance.

KM is stupidly good on stalkers.

    Katana/DA

The BotZ sets still work, they just don't give as much enhancement as they used to. My BS/DA still runs 2 full sets, since I need the KB protection anyway it was worth it to me.
  18. Desktop for hardcore gaming.

More room to upgrade, and you have more options to do so for most models.

If you travel a lot, a laptop might be a better plan if you want to game from anywhere.

    Concept Build?

My concepts usually include the powers found in a given power set. If they didn't, I probably would have chosen a different set.

It's probably going to be the next proliferation, since there isn't anything left they don't already have.

    He's right.

Posting the same thing repeatedly is considered spamming.

The devs know how much we want this, and they want to give it to us just like they did with power customization (you weren't here for it, but we didn't used to be able to color our powers how we wanted them). It's a large undertaking though, so it's not going to happen soon. They worked on power customization for over a year before they even TOLD us about it, and we got it 6 months or so after they told us. Power pools will likely take just as long.

Not a new topic at all. And it's among the top 5 most requested things.

Rest assured, they WILL get to it.

    Eventually.

    Why?

I don't want anything else they're offering for my tokens at the moment.

I have the costume pieces I want, I'm not interested in the other consumables, and there isn't anything else TO spend the tokens on. Perfectly good way to spend tokens. My only other options are to hoard them for the next tier 9 costume pack, or spend them on crap I don't want.

At least the Super Packs will give me something I can make use of.

    50% less damage?

Utter bullcrap. Unless you can mathematically PROVE that corruptors deal an average of 50% less damage compared to a scrapper, stalker or brute, that statement is pure bullfeces.

Tell me, before Incarnate powers, or Envenomed Dagger, how many melee characters successfully soloed Giant Monsters? Yes, they can do it NOW, with the advent of Lore pets and Interface, and chucking temp powers at them. Before that stuff? Not a chance.

Ranged ATs have been doing it for years now. My Rad/Sonic Defender can solo GMs.
Ill/Rad Controllers are known for doing it. Hell, even a well built BLASTER can solo a GM. None of my melee characters can even hope to on their BEST day, not a single one, and I'm no noob at building them.

Now, why is it ranged ATs can do something that no melee AT can do, using just powers from their primary and secondary? Because they get debuffs. It makes a big difference. You know what else matters? Damage output. All the debuffs in the world don't mean squat if you still can't deal enough damage to kill it. Yes, some sets can debuff regeneration rates, but AVs and GMs resist the hell out of them, so it isn't making that huge of a difference.

You can't look at power sets in a vacuum. You have to look at what is available to pair them with as well. Which is why the blast sets are fine, because they are given to ATs that have other means of increasing their damage output.

It's mostly a mule for a purple set to make sure I stay above the threshold for Perma-DP. I could also slot 3 of my ATOs in it if I felt I needed something else in my PBAoEs. Until I acquire the purples needed, it will have Posi's Blast in it, and Focus will have Decimation.

And if you want to be precise, I advocated against Shockwave when your secondary is Willpower or Invuln. I conceded that it was a good power for SR and Regen for mitigation. I didn't have it because I was short on slots in my build. Now that we can boost enhancements I can save slots elsewhere to use in it.

I'm planning on using this build to attempt a solo MITF, and I'll need the mitigation from being able to put things on their butt.

One question off the top of my head, why the eradication trips? You really want that 6% E/N defense?
The E/N defense and 1.8% more max end are better bonuses than I can get from only 3 of any other set.
