Not softcapped yet? Well, not to anything but melee at least?
-
I was comparing advantages and disadvantages as though they were in a vacuum.
Like so: If you could have ONE travel power, with all others being locked out as soon as you choose, what are the advantages and disadvatages of each?
That's the beauty of the character creation process, you can make up for any disadvantages something has with another choice. But if taking Ninja Run locked you out of other choices, you would have the disadvantage of not being able to slot it.
You can take Hover or Teleport to make up for the lack of vertical mobility in Super Speed. You can take Super Speed to make up for the straight line slowness of Flight. And so on and so forth.
But what if your build is so tight due to concept powers or trying to achieve a build goal that you have no room to take travel power pools? The easiest way of obtaining Ranged and AoE defense is closed to you. I have several characters that won't have any travel power excet Ninja Run because there is no room in their build for another pool, or even one more power. For me in that case, Ninja Run has the disadvantage of not being slottable, I have to find 3.13% ranged and AoE defense somewhere else or do without it. -
You think it could have something to do with the devs having admitted that making Epic Archetypes unlock at level 50 was a mistake, and that VEATS only had the level 50 requirement to make it fair?
No, it couldn't be that the devs are fixing what they perceive to be a mistake on their part. That never happens.
So you're pissy because you spent all that time grinding a character to 50 just to unlock Epic ATs.
Trying to care......trying to care.....Hmmm, I just completely failed to give a crap. -
Quote:Absolutely unprecedented. I agree with Fire-Minded on something. Well, some of it anyway. There's nothing in there that's just flat out wrong, though there is stuff I disagree with.To say CoD is a pointless power for DA is a bit missleading.
Iv played a DA/DM Tanker before. The CoD was way more helpful then it looks like it would be.It more then doubled my survivability on my Tanker.
Also, because of the Taunt capability of the Tanker class. You wont lose any agro. The game mechanics are also designed in a way that once a bad guy see's you in a cloak, no matter how powerful it is, will always see you if you run off and come back.Even after its walked back to its spawn area.Meaning your cloak is no longer effective if youv had aggro on that baddie before. So the answer is No.
For builds that have DA but dont have the support from DM, then its not that big of a diffrence if you get it or not.The added -toHit from your DM attacks really makes it pay off as a Defensive power.
On a side note.To say CoD is pointless in any way would be like telling a Willpower Tank player to not worry about Damage Resistance in there build.Statements like those are counter productive as a whole.
I don't think CoD will double your suvivability by itself, but it will improve it some.
Calling it a pointless power to take, though, that IS flat out wrong. Getting 30% defense on a Dark Armor tank will double or triple your survivability, since you have defense in order to be hit less, resistance to reduce the damage of what gets through, and a monster heal to take care of what defense and resistance let through. Just resistance and the heal won't give you as much ability to survive, especially if you are the main tank on a TF with a makeup that makes you responsible for keeping others alive. -
What you want is a travel power with no downside.
You are not going to get it.
Every powerset in the game has downsides to it. Every power pool in the game has downsides to it.
You are not going to get a power that is all good and no bad. Flight is safe, and you can go ANYWHERE with it. If it was faster than other powers it would clearly be far superior to everything else.
Ninja Run is a travel power that you pay $10 real-life money to get, and you can't slot anything at all in it. Every other travel power can be slotted with useful IOs to gain benefits beyond being able to travel.
Teleport: The fastest travel power, but is the most diffcult to use. Also the only travel power that can run you out of endurance by itself. Actually it's one of the only powers in the GAME that can do that.
Super Speed: Fastest straight line power after teleport. Has a useful +Stealth effect built in. Has ZERO vertical movement ability, if you're in a zone that doesn't have much flat ground it sucks to have.
Super Jump: Good speed, has vertical movement, but it has a limit on how high you can go. You will occasionally find yourself dropping into a spawn that can kill you.
Fly: Slowest power. But....it's the only power that can get you to the zone ceiling and keep you there. Allows you to cross higher level zones in complete safety, without even a chance of agroing uplevel enemies. Lets you go literally anywhere in the game that is reachable by a player character. Can keep you permanently out of melee combat, making it useful for squishy characters.
With all the things that Flight can do that other travel powers cannot, asking it to be faster than other travel powers too is just unreasonable. -
Quote:I won't bother for 1 million.
So these days, what amount of influence would make you turn your head and go woah nice! Im going to enter that competition!
I'll join one for 10 million if I happen to already be in the zone and don't have anything else to do.
I'll cross zones and/or switch characters for 100 million.
I'll log in on another server for 1 billion. -
To the OP: Those people are morons.
Wanting specific ATs or powersets on a freakin' sewer run is the height of "You're playing the game wrong" n00bism.
Bet ya a dollar they came over from WoW and think you have to have specific things on your team to succeed. -
For me it depends on how much I like the character. My favorite characters are heavily IOed and at the highest level of performance I can get them to without spending a freakin' fortune on it. I won't farm or play the market, so they get IOed very slowly, as I get drops or build up enough influence/infamy to make a few purchases. Generally I buy IO sets one set at a time. Like "Okay, I have some cash now, I think I'll throw a set of Mako's Bite in Follow Up", and then I go back to playing.
I have never stood around for hours buying and slotting every power a character has, I don't have much time to play these days and don't want to spend it all at the market and invention table.
Before I get to that point SOs are just fine. I'm not obsessed with getting uber performance immediately, I work on it slowly. -
I actually suggest taking Empty Clips instead of Dual Wield on a respec. That's mostly because I dislike the animation for Duial Wield though.
With Tar Patch down first you should be able to get in range for Empty Clips and back out long bfore they can get to you, especially if you slot Tar Patch with a slow or two.
I have a DP/Kin I'm working on, thinking about rerolling and taking Empty Clips instead of Dual Wield since he's still so low. -
I like Shout, but it's much better on a blaster. If you want to PvP at all it's a must have, but you can probably skip it for PvE (I hate saying that).
Howl IS a must have on any Sonic Blast character, as is Siren's Song.
Given your options at the level you're at, I'd say go with Howl. -
Extensive use of PvP IOs is fairly pointless on anything but extreme high end PvP specific characters.
You can get benefits just as good with sets that cost a helluva lot less. -
Quote:I agree with both of these.Do - Skip WoC..... Unless you are going to put the purple confuse set in it especially the proc. The Contagious confusion proc is better than this entire power.
Don't - Skip Sirens..... Unless you are NEVER going to solo this toon. Sirens makes maxing out the benefits from Drain Psyche a breeze. You can then AoE with pretty much impunity.
Skipping Siren's song on a sonic blast ANYTHING is a huge mistake. Siren's Song and Screech make for an absolutely untouchable solo blaster. Siren's Song is perma out of the box (it's duration is longer than it's base recharge). I use that combination with Taser added in on my Sonic/Devices and it's awesome. If you have a stealth power or a stealth IO you can sneak up on a mob and put them to sleep, then wake them up one at a time wth Screech (they wake up stunned and still can't attack that way). Single target attack them to death and do the same with the next one. Voila! you have just killed an entire spawn without ever even being targeted, let alone damaged.
Also, the purple sleep set is still pretty cheap, comparitively speaking. -
Also, once you hit the softcap without Divine Avalanche, you can drop it quit easily. It's great for adding defense, but it does lower your damage output because it's not a very hard hitting attack.

Quote:I still like Focused Accuracy. My Claws/Regen has more than enough endurance to run it full time without ever being in danger of running out, and it's the only place I can fit in my build to slot Gaussian's (since slotting Gaussian's in Follow Up is a horrible idea)Focused accuracy is garbage now. You get added perception for free in wp, and like werner said, you can get a similar to hit bonus from a single io, rather than using a power pick on a power that eats WAY more end than it's worth.
Ideally, you should try to tweak in order to pik up both Fighting AND Body Mastery. You really only need 2 powers from Body, Conserve Power (which won't need to be slotted on a WP, it's basically a throwaway power here) and Physical Perfection (which I would actually *** for regen on a WP toon)
Tough, Weave, and Physical Perfection will add tons to your survivbility. Any chance you can post your current powers so we can see what you can get away with dropping to pick up 5 powers? After IOing, you can probably get away with dropping Stamina, especially if you take PP. (that's assuming you have it) I wouldn't drop Health though. -
Well, you're going to need more than 100 million. Even my "flat broke on a budget" softcapped BS/DA ran me 350-400 million, andyou will need to spend at least that much softcapping a Shield Defense. Shield Defense is better than SR....IF you drop a crapton of money into it.
I'd say slot your priority pieces first, shooting for as much defense as you cn get for what you have, and then work on getting the other stuff as you earn more money. -
Quote:Well, it probably won't be Cloak of Darkness it gets, but it would retain some sort of stealth power.I have wanted this port for a very long time. I'm not a fan of Stalkers, I played a DB/Nin to 38. I just didn't like her.
I had hoped they would port Ninjistu to Scrappers to give them a cool set. Someone had mentioned a problem with Caltrops being in this set and the Ancillary. But that too could be fixed with giving some other power.
Hide -- Cloak of Darkness
Caltrops -- Venom Grenade
And scrappers getting Venom Grenade?..........
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! That one isn't gonna happen.
Ninjitsu would be a cool port for scrappers, and will probably happen at some point, but they are VERY unlikely to get Venom Grenade in place of Caltrops. -
Impressive guys.
Though it still seems like Broadsword and Katana are the only primaries that can softcap to positional with Dark Armor and still remain playable. Though if someone comes up with a build that can do it I will cheerfully stand corrected. -
Quote:Okay, can you help me with what needs fixing? I don't seem to be very good at this lol..
According to the math Umbral did on it, you only need 55% global recharge to have perma DP. That is assuming both Hasten and DP both have 95% recharge enhancement. It is also assuming you click Hasten and DP as soon as they recharge. -
It is probably blocked in Chine because the vast majority of RMT sites are supplied by people playing in China.
Also, just so you know, the mods can see what account your forum name is tied to. If you circumvent their security to access the site, I can pretty much guarantee that will earn your account a lifetime ban. Anyone who provides you with the information necessary to do so will probably get banned as well. -
Quote:So you're a computer programmer with loads of experience with the EXACT game engine they are using? (which means you work at Paragon Studios, because as far as I know CoH is the ONLY game using this engine)My little cousin is five. And he loves to make all sorts of noises. Programing is probably not his forte.
I just think a Crossbow is low hanging fruit. Easy to add to the game.
BaBs still has to test stuff.
Either way, someone should be making my crossbows.
Sure sounds like it, since you keep saying this is so easy to do. It's very doubtful that doing all this is just "cut and paste" like you keep saying.
Did you know that every single attack animation in every set that you can use a shield with was altered slightly in order to work with the shield? Every. Single. One. And they had to create an entirely new combat stance to use with it.
That's why it took us so long to get Shields in the first place. Dual Blades and Shields were the sets that won the voting contest to see what powersets they were going to give us for melee ATs. We got Willpower instead of Shield Defense back then because Shields was a LOT of work to do.
What you're essentially asking for is an entirely new powerset, that is not an entirely new powerset. BaBs's workload remains just about the same, but Castle and the other powers guys won't have to do much with it.
If all this stuff is SO easy, why aren't we getting new stuff every month? You think they works for a couple days and take a few weeks off every time they add something? Programming a video game is incredibly time consuming. Doing this would take time out of the animator's days that could be used on something brand new, like oh, I dunno, the giant expansion that is coming out soon that likely isn't completely finished. -
Fly and teleport are the only powers that will get you from the Talos gate to the Portal Corp building in Peregrine in perfect safety. If you don't believe me, try it with any of the other ones at level 14. Super Speed's stealth component isn't even that reliable when the mobs in the zone are +36 to you, especially since there are snipers all over the rooftops in PI that can see right through it.
Teleport costs a metric butt-ton of end to use, and fly is slow.
The reason for that is they are the safest possible travel powers to use.
It wouldn't be fair if Fly was faster than a travel power that puts you in way more danger. -
Dominators and Blasters: Drain Psyche does quite a bit of -regen too.
Can't believe no one mentioned it with all the MM blasters and Psi Assault doms running around. -
Quote:The one I rolled yesterday was 'Tabby Ru-Grrr'. Yeah I had to go with the catgirl thing. Too bad the pistols are clearly not Rugers.
I think you're thinking of a Luger. Which was the sidearm carried by the Nazis in WWII.
Ruger is a more recent company. One of their flagship handguns is the Ruger Blackhawk, which is a .44 Magnum revolver with a long barrel. The Magnum revolver model is actually most likely based on it. So if you use that model for the pistols they could easily be Rugers. -
Quote:I use the Apprentice Charm all the time. It's secondary effect is a minor resistance debuff. The others get removed from my tray as soon as I can put together an attack chain.
You typically won't use this power very far in to your career
Yes, but not like other games. Your powers determine what you can do, so you don't have to buy weapons or armor or anything like that. What we have is called enhancements. They make your powers better. Staccato mentioned that your origin determines what enhancements you can use. In order from worst to best they are: Training Origin (TO), Dual Origin (DO), Single Origin (SO), and Invention Origin (IO).Quote:Do you buy stuff in this game if so how?
There are also Invention Set Enhancements. These are a set of enhancements with a common name (Positron's Blast, Thunderstrike, Crushing Impact, etc.) The sets are made up of between 3 and 6 enhancements, and you get bonuses to your character when you have 2 or more slotted (they must all be slotted in the same power to grant a bonus).
Some of the set pieces are extremely valuable, so if you happen to get one, check it's price at the market before you sell it to a vendor or delete it. A vendor will not pay more that 10,000 influence/infamy for a set piece, but to another player it could be worth millions.
Quick tips:
You already heard how to get a travel power. You must reach level 6 in order to take the prerequisite for that power.
You can have up to 4 Power Pools. These are powers available to any character of any archetype. Choose them carefully, because you are limited in what you can take, and being new you won't have any respecs available to you right away. (A respec lets you re-choose your powers, but you can't change your powersets)
One of the most helpful power pools is the Fitness pool. It includes the power Stamina, which increases the rate you recover endurance. It's not mandatory to take it, but most people agree that it is a very good idea. You must have 2 powers from the pool before you can take Stamina, and Stamina unlocks at level 20. All power pools work the same way, you unlock the first 2 powers at level 6, the third power at level 14, and the 4th power at level 20. You do NOT need to take both of the first two powers, one is all you need to access the third. You can also take both of the first 2 powers and jump straight to the 4th at level 20, but one of the powers is almost always better than the other.
You get a 5th power pool you can choose from later, those are called Epic or Ancillary power pools. But since those don't unlock until level 41 we won't worry about them yet.
Also, another note: You happened to have started the game during a Double XP weekend, until Monday morning you gain twice the normal experience for everything. After it's over you will notice your leveling speed will slow down. That will be the normal leveling speed, and it's supposed to happen. Just wanted to make sure you knew that so you don't go "WTF?!, why am I leveling so slow now?!"
Okay, I've thrown enough information at you for now
Welcome to the game! I hope your stay is long and enjoyable!
Claws -
Someone posted that they have the name 'Goldie Glocks', thought that one was pretty clever.
I have one named ".40 Caliber Cure" on Pinnacle.
