  2. I heard a rumor that Duff McKagen plays (bass player of Guns & Roses and Velvet Revolver)

Just a rumor though, I've never confirmed it.
  3. In the settings there are 5 options if you leave the advanced settings off. "Quality" and "Ultra" are both Ultra mode settings. The 3 below that are all the old settings. Unless I'm greatly mistaken, setting it to "Recommended" turns Ultra mode settings off.

I can't run it any higher than "Quality" myself, so I feel your pain. Our other computer can't run the new settings at all.

Check my reg date. It's legit.

I am very well aware of what happened to PvP.

Um.....yeah. They really did you so wrong there by changing their game without your permission. I mean, since you pay a subscription fee and all, they should clear everything through you first, right?

Just because you shop at a store doesn't mean you can tell them what to sell. If you don't like what's on the shelf....don't shop there.

I didn't like the PvP changes any more than anyone else did.

But I also had the sense to realize that insulting the people who control whether the things I dislike are ever changed isn't in my best interest. Why didn't you?

Personally, I don't really care if you want to insult the devs because you want to act like they singled you out to screw over. All it accomplishes is making sure they never listen to you again, which doesn't bother me in the slightest.

But, if you choose to be insulting, don't turn around and complain about them ignoring you, because you brought it on yourself.

    I have a Dark/DP, still low level.

My plan is to use Chem rounds combined with Darkest Night when I need more survivability, and Fire Rounds when I want more damage.

I can also see using Cryo rounds and hopping back and forth over their heads to make sure my target NEVER leaves my Tar Patch

My wife and I duo a lot, so I'll still be getting a 20% damage buff when teaming with her. On paper it looks pretty good, and if I can stay alive I'll keep it even if the damage ends up being disappointing, because Dual Pistols looks cool.

One gripe: Why the bloody hell does it take all day to use your heal? I've lost track of the number of times I've clicked it with half an HP bar left, only to be dead before the heal is actually applied. Other than that I'm enjoying the character thus far.

I dunno, maybe I just value "fun" more than I value "powerful".

Wouldn't it make more sense to slot 4 Eradication and a couple Scirocco's?

Thinking about it logically, I'd rather add more defense to the damage types I DON'T resist the hell out of. And more HP is always a good thing. Scirocco's adds some regen, which while not strictly necessary is the only useful bonus you can get for 2 slots out of any other set.
  7. Go Ice.

While having no idea what your concept is, you say that both work for it.

Energy is FAR more common than Ice, and there's something to be said for originality.

However, it is worth noting that the PBAoE PvP proc WILL stack with Achille's Heel.....IF you can afford it.

    Not in my experience.

I dinged 50 on a hero on Pinnacle, and created a Kheldian on Guardian without moving the hero. This was in Issue 7.

Once your account reaches the milestone you can make one anywhere. As far as I'm aware it has always been that way.
  10. That's hilarious.

I PvP most often with my Claws/Regen...but that's because it's my main character and I tend to just pop into the zones with whatever I happen to be on at the time. I don't, however, think that I'm good just because I play a regen that seldom dies. Also, if I wanted to be a leet fiteklubber I wouldn't have picked Claws for my primary.

The kid whose delusions you're posting is top shelf entertainment though.

Who was the guy again that posted the "time has come" thread? You know, the tard who thought he was hot **** because his DB/Regen could win a melee only duel with no inspirations. I feel kinda odd laughing at someone whose name I forgot.

    That's funny.

People complain that the devs never listen to them, and then say things like the above.

If I got that kind of attitude after every action I made, I'd ignore you too.

Ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, the devs would be more receptive to your ideas if you weren't such a jerk about it?

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to paint all PvPers with the same brush here. I've just noticed that the people who give the devs the most crap about stuff are also the ones who are the most vocal about them not listening.

    Example:

"You suck! Why can't you do your job right?! You're obviously incompetent idiots!"

    and then:

"Hey...I have a valid complaint about this thing you did. Why aren't you listening to me?"

You treat them like crap, and then wonder why they don't pay attention when you have a complaint? Makes me think the devs have ignore lists as well.
  12. I had the same problem on one of my blasters.

Can't help you though, I never did figure out how to fix it. He's a Super Jumper now.

Figured I'd welcome you as well. Always nice to see new blood in the game I love.

"Gravity Controller" would be preferable. It is pretty universally accepted when asking about a character to say something like "Gravity/Thermal Controller". If you said "Gravity Mutant" you could be referring to either a Controller or a Dominator, as they share primary powersets. If you said "Fire Mutant" it would be even more confusing, because 7 different archetypes have access to Fire based powers.

I'll explain further in answering your next question.

    Quote:
Lightfoot, this comment I like you to comment more about:

    3) The fact that the character is a Mutant has almost no bearing on the character's abilities aside from the fact that you got the Mutagen power and it will affect your 33 Month veteran's reward.

How does this affect my rewards specifically?
Obviously, I'm not Lightfoot, but I can answer that question.

Your character's origin doesn't affect anything about it except which specific Enhancements you use. Dual Origin and Single Origin enhancements are based on your origin. The only thing different about them from origin to origin is the name, they do the exact same thing across all origins. A Visor and an Illumination Grenade both enhance accuracy in a power, and if they are the same level they enhance it by the same amount, but they are for different origins.

My Claws/Regen scrapper, for example, is Science origin. If he were Mutant, Technology, Magic, or Natural origin his powers would be exactly the same.

Origin is pretty much just a roleplaying consideration. It is just HOW you got your powers, rather than what your powers actually ARE.

The only reward origin has ANY affect on is the Veteran Reward powers Nemesis Staff and Blackwand. Mutant and Magic origin give bonus damage to the Blackwand power, and Science and Technology give bonus damage to the Nemesis Staff power. Natural origin gives bonus damage to both. Those are 33 month Veteran Rewards (which are freebies you get for keeping an active account for a length of time, they're awarded for every 3 months). Since you get them at 33 months, you don't need to worry about them for quite a while yet.

And, no, there is no way to get them any sooner than that. Figured I'd answer that one before it is asked, it's a pretty common question.

Hope that helps. Welcome to Paragon City and the Rogue Isles!

Come up with some actual FACTS instead of saying "I don't see anyone, so therefore I conclude that no one is playing."

I could say: "The last 3 scrappers I saw were all Shield Defense, so I conclude that no one is playing anything except Shield Defense" and it would carry just as much weight as what you keep saying.

But....since apparently no one is playing, those 3 Shield Defense scrappers were clearly a figment of my imagination.

    (emphasis mine)
Of course it works for anyone. I didn't mean to imply that it didn't.

It just works better with other shield users who also have Phalanx Fighting and Grant Cover.

It is in fact quite clear that they wanted a hybrid PvP/PvE zone. My position is that any such zone is a flat-out terrible idea in the first place.
If the hybrid PvE/PvP zones didn't exist....we would never get ANY new PvPers. If you ask someone who does not play the game what they heard about CoH PvP they will most likely tell you it is a joke. So, we are very unlikely to get any PvPers migrating from other games, they'll either stay where they are, or go somewhere with better PvP.

I first got into PvP in Siren's Call. I went in to run some of the door missions in there between contacts and discovered that I actually enjoyed PvP when I got involved in a rolling battle that had sprung up while I was in a mission. If hybrid PvE/PvP zones didn't exist, I likely never would have tried it.

That's why they shouldn't be changed:

Players like me that might find out they enjoy PvP that never thought about it until they found themselves in a PvP situation. Take away the hybrid zones and the PvP population will dwindle as PvP veterans leave for greener pastures and no new PvPers come along because they were never exposed to it, and were unlikely to seek it out on their own. Sure, players that already KNOW they don't like PvP get annoyed by it, but is that a good enough reason to remove the opportunity for people to try it who haven't formed an opinion yet?

Remove the hybrid zones and you have: Non-PvPers and Competetive PvPers. It would remove the middle ground of the "casual PvPer" (like me). You think it's hard to learn in an open zone? Try going into the arena with a competitive PvPer. I guarantee if you have little or no PvP experience you will get destroyed. In an arena match, most PvPers show no mercy at all, but in a zone with few or no people around they're more likely to show a newbie the ropes. Or a casual PvPer like me will go a few rounds and give people a chance to figure stuff out.

If you remove the hybrid zones you will pretty much completely kill PvP in this game as no new blood will ever get introduced to it. It's hard to develop a passion for something when your first experience is getting crushed by the equivalent of professionals in it. It's discouraging to get destroyed in seconds flat over and over again. The open zones give people more of a chance to do something, especially if they wander in while there is something actually going on.

    The Boot Myth

Let me give some examples of people who, according to the forums, will get kicked from the team because of their own foolish considerations:
    • A Mastermind with no Henchmen
    • An Arachnos Soldier or Arachnos Widow without Tactical Training: Maneuvers
    • A Kinetics without Fulcrum Shift
    • Any Kheldian
Now, I've done my fair share of teaming, and I've never come across those intimidating types who carefully examine your build to see whether or not your power selections satisfy their min/maxing appetites. In fact, very rarely am I ever on a team where any member even checks to see what powers another member has. Everybody just goes with it, and if it works, it works.

Maybe I'm just lucky, or perhaps Triumph is just a better server than the others, but in my experience, you are not going to get booted from a team based on your power selections.

    Also: petless Mastermind /plug
For me, it has less to do with their power choices and more to do with their ability to do their job.

If I have on my team an Invulnerability tank who neglected to take Invincibility and Unyielding, and doesn't have Taunt, then, yes, he's getting kicked. Without those 3 powers it is pretty much impossible for that tank to hold agro, which is the reason I invited a tank in the first place.

A petless MM I can deal with if they can otherwise contribute to the success of the team.

I will kick an Empath if they think standing around rocking the Aura and never using their buffs is how you're supposed to play an Emp. But...I won't kick immediately. I will give them a chance to adapt their playing to what I require of them for the team. If they refuse to do so, then I boot. I also tend to look down on Empaths who never attack anything, even when there's nothing else for them to do (i.e. the team isn't taking damage, all buffs are applied, and they are standing around with their thumb up their butt). I don't care if you only have one attack....use the damn thing!

Everyone on a team has a job to do on that team, and I expect them to do it, or at least try to do it. If they have a weird build, but are still capable of doing their job, I don't sweat it. If their power choices leave them unable to perform their AT's function kicking them is a viable option.

I have never kicked anyone upon just seeing their power list. And I do look at everyone's powers, just so I know what to expect.

    Massive Recharge

I have Blaze Mastery planned for my Fire/Regen with 4 Basilisk's Gaze in Char, 5 Decimation in Fire Blast, and 5 Posi's Blast in Fireball.

It doesn't have as much recharge as using purples, but it saves you a slot in Char, and it's a LOT cheaper. You only give up 10% recharge this way (7.5% + 6.25% + 6.25% = 20%, as opposed to 3x 10%)

    LOMFL!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Werner! That build is like my claim to fame here on the scrapper forums (and one of two powerset combos I feel confident that I know what I'm talking about on)

I can't look at the OP's build right now, since I'm at work and they kinda frown on downloading stuff on work computers. But, when I get home I'll take a look and see what I can get out of it.

BS/DA and Kat/DA are so similar build-wise that the primaries are pretty much interchangable (literally, you can change the primary in Mid's and nothing changes except power names). Actually, that's true of pretty much any katana or broadsword build, if you have a build that works for one, it will apply equally well to the other.

Also, I may not even change my build after the BotZ nerf. I'll still be sitting at around 40% to ranged and AoE, which is plenty for the vast majority of the game. It may make some of the more difficult stuff more so, but I don't see it hurting my overall performance a whole lot for what I use that character for.

I agree with the disagreement. (that's kind of a strange thing to say actually)

If it were not as damaging as it is it would still be taken, it would just be slotted very differently.

If you wanted a heal and didn't want to waste a power pick on Aid Other in order to get Aid Self, Siphon Life would still look very nice. It's taken now largely as the second most damaging attack in the set, with a nice self-heal side effect. If it had never been changed it would be a nice self heal with a useful damage/debuff side effect.
  21. Really, as far as survivability goes, the only advantage the brute will have is higher hit points. Once you're softcapped the only noticible difference you'll find is that enemies have to get lucky more times in a row to drop the brute.

This is assuming you're considering Fire/Shield for both characters.

So you'd get the 5% when you are solo. I'm not sure about NPC allies in missions; the City of Data descriptions says "teammates".

    EDIT for lack of clarity.
    This.

The amount is 3.5% for scrappers and brutes. It's unenhanceable, but as anyone knows, 3.5% is very valuable when you're sitting at 42% defense.

It also makes a wonderful place to slot a LotG +Recharge or Kismet +Acc IO, since slotting the power up is kind of pointless unless you plan on teaming with other shield users.

NPC allies don't count. I've tested it.

No, neither one are unique. You can slot as many as your build allows for.

For a scrapper, you can put a Perf Shifter +End in up to 3 spots, depending on your secondary. All scrappers can slot 2 if they take Physical Perfection. Regen and Willpower can slot 3, as they have end recovery powers in their secondary.

The ToE +End is only slottable in Accurate Healing powers, so the only scrappers that can slot them are Dark Melee or Dark Armor. DM/DA can slot 2 if you're so inclined. It is by far the best single IO to invest in for a DA anything.

ToE can also be slotted in Twilight Grasp and Transfusion. Note that it works strangely in Transfusion, in that it also has a chance to give your TARGET 10 endurance (since Transfusion affects their end)

The Perf. Shifter can be slotted in any endurance power, including Transfusion and Transference, but it does the same thing as the ToE one.
  24. I do nothing but random rolls. I have never saved up merits to buy that one uber-expensive recipe.

Why would I spend 240 merits on ONE thing, when that many merits will get me 12 chances for that one thing, and the very strong possibility that I'll get something else I need in the process?
