Quote:Oh, right, because NO ONE uses a set for typed defense, do they? I'm not using the exact same sets everyone and their grandma uses so they're the wrong ones?
45.2 S/L
48.6 Eng/Neg
45.5 Rng
Wait no, it fails just as bad...
But it has jump kick...
Btw start buying those cleaving blow recipes/IOs, the .63% range defense is going to be so overpowered!
So just because it's not slotted how you would slot, it isn't proper?Quote:I'm not sure if it's worth it. I want to pick certain powers and slot all powers properly.
Did I miss a rulebook somewhere that says powers must be slotted a certain way to be considered correct? Or is it just that everyone is so set in their ways in slotting a blaster that they can't consider any other options?
Edit: I updated Mid's. I didn't realize that defense was screwed up too. I noticed the weird HP bonus numbers.
Never mind, I guess if I want defense I'll just have to conform to ranged defense like everyone else does. Which completely defeats the purpose of my build. It's also impossible for me to hoverblast because the character in question has the flight bug that makes him constantly fly downward.
I guess that's what I get for trying to do something different. -
Quote:Has it been a long while since you posted?I seem to have lost access to my main account on the forums(can log into game, but not the forums...?)
If so you may not have known that in the fairly recent past it was changed so that your forum log-in password is the same as your game log-in password.
First thing that came to mind for me when you sad that you can log into the game and not the forums. Try using your game log-in and see if that works.
If it doesn't, then you have a problem I can't help with and Support would be a good idea for your next stop.
As far as the powerset combo goes...yeah, DM/Elec should play pretty nice. I'd probably have one myself, but I don't have time to actually play all the builds I think up. -
Pssst.
Electric has better melee than Energy.
Just thought I'd point that out since no one else mentioned it.
Energy can enter melee, Electric THRIVES in it. If you have Electric as a secondary and never enter melee range....you picked the wrong secondary.
The ONLY powers in Electric Manipulation that aren't melee based are Electric Fence, and Build Up.
Charged Brawl, Lightning Field, Havoc Punch, Thunder Strike, Lightning Clap, Power Sink, Shocking Grasp are ALL melee range abilities. If you were counting, that's 7 out of 9 powers that require you to be in melee range to use. So, if you want a blapper....Electric is a better choice.
Hmmm.....Rad/Elec/Cold? Could be pretty crazy if I give it the same treatment as my Fire/Fire/Cold (which can be found in another thread, I'm not going to derail this one talking about it) -
Quote:Started a thread wit it in it.Please post the build so the devs know what the next round of set bonuses to reduce.
I didn't use anything that is out of line bonus-wise, so I doubt any nerfing will come of it. It's all stuff that is fair for the amount of slots invested.
It gives up a little bit to do it too, so it's hardly overpowered. -
Came up with an interesting build for my Fire/Fire/Cold.
Softcaps Smashing/Lethal/Energy/N.Energy, AND ranged defenses. Uses no purples or PvP IOs, and seems to be playable end consumption-wise. It also doesn't use BotZ to softcap to ranged.
Pros:
Not much is going to be hitting me. I should be able to live in melee most of the time relatively unscathed (I did it with this in mind, I mostly play scrappers and wanted a blaster that could do similar things)
Relatively cheap to build. I managed to avoid most of the really high dollar IOs with this one, and the big ticket items that are in the build are optional.
Cons: No room for Aim and Build Up. I know, I know, it's blasphemy to skip Aim and Build Up on a blaster. But I just didn't have room to take them and still do what I wanted to do.
Not a whole lot of recharge, but I tested it and discovered that I have enough to always be able to do SOMETHING (even if it's just Flares
), so that doesn't bother me much.
Frozen Armor is ugly. That is a con in and of itself.
Here's the build, lemme know what you think:

Quote:Really?Thats all in essence i'm saying, let you nova but keep your toggs goin. Not being able to attack, but still being able to have your defensive stuff going, if nothing else to avoid having to take time to simply pop a blue and retogg, or use consume or something similiar. There are way too many ways around the crashes really.
I just came up with a Fire/Fire/Cold blaster build that is softcapped to S/L/E/N AND ranged.
That alone breaks the diea of a nuke stripping away your defenses as well as your ability to attack. IF my toggles didn't drop I would be able to nuke with impunity against most enemies I am likely to encounter.
Not much is going to get through the layer of defenses I managed to build up there, so not being able to attack for a few seocnd is not going to inconvenience me in the slightest.
With a full end crash my nearly untouchable blaster is suddenly vulnerable as all my toggles shut down. Which is EXACTLY what the devs have said they want full crash nukes to do. -
Nope, Control+Key activates tray 3 powers. I have never hit Control by accident when I was playing, so I put the powers I really don't want going off by accident up there. Like Self Destruction.
-
Quote:well I'm not sure if I will be playing much by the time GR is released. I might play now and then, so DP is the main reason I would be pre-ordering
I'm basically just asking if DP is a good set or if it's one of the worse sets.
it seems to be lacking alot of stuff, but still looks nice and flashy
It's fun, but you're not going to be outdamaging fire blasters. -
Quote:So, you'd be perfectly happy with a game that forces you to be somewhere you don't want to be? As long as you don't have to lift a finger to find a team, who gives a damn if Claws doesn't like it, right?Yeah, if I went to play the game one day and nothing else had changed except that I didn't get to click on a server name while logging in, I'd ragequit too. heh.
Did you miss the part where I said I play on a lower population server intentionally? Intentionally. That means I don't like the atmosphere Freedom has and don't want to play there. If I want to play on Freedom, I can play there anytime, same as you can.
Currently, I have the choice of playing somewhere that ISN'T crowded full of idiots who think I'm obligated to join their team just because they sent a tell. I prefer it that way.
That is what would change. I would be crammed in with a whole bunch of people I don't WANT to be crammed in with.
Stop thinking about what YOU want, and consider that some people don't like the playstyle you seem to prefer. Your desires are not more important than mine. Deal with the fact that I have the right to play how I want, just like you do. You want to see crowded zones that lag out every time someone sneezes, you know where to go. Don't force ME to go there too.
But I keep forgetting the me me me, now now now mentality people seem to have these days. Who gives a crap if someone else is inconvenienced as long as you get YOUR way, right?
I hope you find yourself on the receiving end of that attitude someday. You'll get just as indignant then as you do now when someone tells you that, no, in fact you are NOT more important than everyone else and don't deserve to get what you want just because you threw a hissy fit about it. -
Really? And you have problems teaming there?
Weird, I play on the same server (and ONLY on that server), and I don't have these issues you speak of.
See, but I also LIKE less populated servers. If I don't feel like teaming, or if I want to duo with my wife, I don't get pestered quite as much with people wanting me to join their team, or asking if they can join mine. When I DO want to team, I have little or no difficulty finding one.
The biggest problem *I* see with merging servers is the number of people there are in the game like me. I'm playing on a lower population server intentionally, and I would be HIGHLY annoyed if the pro-server-merge people get their way and I get shove into a situation I've been actively avoiding for 4+ years. The day I get forced onto an overpopulated server against my will is the day I cancel my account, and I'd imagine there are a lot of people out there who feel the same way about it.
A server merge stands a very real chance of doing what nothing has accomplished yet: Killing the game.
No, it won't happen overnight, but the exodus of people who don't like being crammed in like sardines will hurt. And no one (or very few people) will want to start playing a game that has given the universal sign of being on the way out.
If you remember Tabula Rasa...what happened there? They merged servers, and 6 months later the game was dead. Not "dead" like people say Pinnacle and Victory are, "dead" as in: "servers shut down, no more game".
Even if YOU don't remember that, people who pay attention to MMOs in general DO remember it. And the fact that Tabula Rasa was owned by NCSoft as well would tell them that the same thing will happen here. Even if that isn't the case, you're not going to get them to risk it, at least not in enough numbers to help any.
With the history of games who did server merges failing shortly thereafter it would be, hands down, the STUPIDEST thing our dev team could do just months before the largest expansion to the game in 4 years. -
Quote:Search "Dahjee"I have never seen anyone with more than 2 red bars. Including some I know who actively farm -rep.
They have as many red bars as I have green, maybe more.
Reason: Had the audacity to disagree with people in the PvP forums. (Guessing, I'd nevr seen the person before I saw them there) -
Quote:Well I did forget to add that the forms we would take would only have 2 legs like a werewolf. not sure if that makes a difference or not. but yeah I kind of thought it would not happen.
The devs probably COULD do it.
But I'm not going to put any bets on it happening. -
Check out this thread:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219336
It has an idea in it to do something similar to what you're asking, and I actually like the idea outlined in it.
Read the whole thread. A lot of suggestions made in it fleshed out the idea a lot more. -
Okay.
THIS idea I like.
I dread the day I have to respec my level 50 main JUST to pull out the Regenerative Tissue unique he has (which he doesn't need) and give it to my Katana/WP scrap (Who DOES need it)
The fact that it's impossible for players to make money from it (aside from selling the removed enhancement of course) makes it worth doing in my opinion.
So, the most rarely seen word in a post from me in this section:

Quote:True, but that's THEIR fault. They speak english and they're on english servers and they don't have a frackin clue about what's going on.

What about the player who WANTS to read things and learn about the game, but can't because everything is in a foreign language?
If you don't want to read stuff, that's your choice. If you want to but can't, that isn't your fault.
I wasn't suggesting this as a reason not to merge the lists, just pointing out that there will be two servers that are in a different language.
Zukunft is pretty obvious. But Vigilance doesn't indicate that it's in French by the name. -
Quote:Okay.Ok, we've heard of the whole full respec thing before.
This is a proposal to make it actually work.
What I want is essentially a reroll while keeping badges and souvenirs. In other words it is just like the current option (rerolling) but there is no issue with badges deterring you from doing it, and people who want an AT respec can feel like they can do so, without interfering with the alt incentive.
What happens when you feel like playing the OLD character?
My main is also my badge collector. What do I do if I decide to switch from Claws/Regen to Fire/Regen, and then later on I'm in the mood to play Claws/Regen? Sure, I can roll another, but what if I want to play it at 50? I'd have to level ANOTHER Claws/Regen to 50 in order to play it.....which makes my rerolling the original character redundant.
Besides, a LOT of badges are level gated. How the hell does a level 1 have Task Force Commander when they aren't high enough level to even run the FIRST TF required, let alone all 6? -
Quote:My Fire/Regen scrapper with no IOs is crippled?Agree with others IOs are good stuff.
Example:
I locked a toon [foolishly thinking that I could make cash off the very low supply recipe drops] and IOed her out at 25. Nothing higher than 28 and on missions she was a god compared to the SOed, or perhaps DOed toons.
Global Recharge? Yeah, you can feel it. Enhancing Damage AND Accuracy AND Rech into the 90s or 80s? FTW, man, FTW. You can't do that with SOs til the 40s.
Frankenslotting is cheaper than SOs and better for numbers. Sets give bonuses, great ones at times. A toon without IOs is crippled, but can still get to 50 if they are on good teams.
Tell HIM that....oh wait, he can't hear you because he cleared this room and moved on while you were typing
A character without IOs is NOT crippled. That's like saying I can't go jogging because I can't run a mile in 4 minutes.
I will IO out a power or two at lower levels if the set I plan to use caps at 30 or 40. I mean, if you're planning on slotting Eradication for the set bonuses, why not just go ahead and do it at level 27?Quote:As stated, SOs are the baseline. I don't bother with IOs, even the basics, unless I happen to be in the base and happen to have the recipe and salvage needed to make them AND they're level 35 and higher. It's just not worth my time to bother with them beyond that until 50.
Otherwise I wait until the 40s before I even start looking into what I want to do. -
I suppose you could, if you had the time and money.....but WHY?
I build my characters to be effective both teamed and solo, so for me something lke this would just be a huge waste of money.
Especially if I ever decided to scrap that character. I'd need twice as many respecs in order not to throw away billions. -
The only character I've ever gotten ANY use out of Time Bomb was my Sonic/Devices blaster.
Was kind of fun to put a mob to sleep and plant a bomb in the middle of them. I called it the Alarm Clock. -
Quote:The devs have been on record repeatedly saying that enhancements (of ANY kind) are meant to be permanent. How is that going to help if he/she wishes to keep their IO's? Having to do upwards of 6 respecs just to unslot and keep your IOs, is a little bit of a pain. I have never done so, but I have known plenty of people who have had to.
According to them, we're lucky we even get to keep 10 of them.
I don't anticipate them changing their mind on this one, if they were going to it would likely have happened by now. -
Pffft.
You think Pinnaclites are such lightweights that drinking impairs our ability to play?
Maybe on one of them foofoo Boone's Farm servers you'll have that happen, but not here!
On the OP: I skipped that problem entirely. I use the number keys to activate my powers. 1-0 is tray 1, Alt+1-0 is tray 2. I keep powers I seldom use in tray 3 where I'm unlikely to hit them by accident, I click those manually, since they are all powers that my survival does not depend on (various teleport powers, Rest, etc.) -
Quote:I agree completely.
But even if I never used those servers I still think it is really important to get the EU people some access to the more populated NA servers. They seem to truly be in a bad spot.
All I was saying is that a server list merge would benefit the EU players much more than the NA players. I wasn't begrudging them that at all. -
What is so farking hard to understand about the devs saying: "Thank you for supporting the game for all these years, here's some cool stuff!"?
When the game was just starting out, it was fighting for a market share among several MMOs, one of which went on to be the biggest MMO EVER (it launched within a year of CoH). If not for the loyal subscribers, the game would have tanked like many others did (remember Tabula Rasa? Auto Assault?).
The people who have those vet rewards are the people who were directly responsible for the game's success. The Vet Rewards are the dev's way of thanking you for that contribution. Were you playing and supporting the game 5 years ago when it needed it? No? Then you don't deserve the gift the devs gave the people who were.
It really is THAT FRIGGING SIMPLE!
It's not a matter of the veterans having a sense of entitlement because they get stuff new players don't. It's a matter of the devs giving something nice to the people that are directly responsible for them still having jobs.
