  1. Here, check out this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=189427

That's what you can do with a BS/DA scrapper. Mine was not quite softcapped after the Blessing of the Zephyr changes a while back, but still a VERY solid build.

I can't help much with the Battle Axe/Dark Armor, as I have never built one, or really looked into one.

    Merit Help

I don't have much to add, I just wanted to say, macskull, your avatar made me chuckle. I haven't seen that movie in a long time.

I've yet to see a scrapper hit 300. The top is apparently and Ill/cold controller if I'm remembering correctly. My search skills are garbage and I didn't bookmark the thread.

He hasn't built them so they're not in the rikti pylons thread.
From what I understand, a Fire/Shield scrapper and a DM/Shield scrapper have hit or gotten close to 300 DPS, but those were truly insane builds (approaching or achieving perma-Hasten)

I'm pretty sure Bill Z holds the record for the highest DPS done with a Claws scrapper, and he was around 220 or so I think.

I know my Claws/Regen struggles to maintain 160 DPS, I can hit 180 if I don't need to hit a heal and can just keep my chain running, but not consistently. 250 is well outside the realm of possibility for me.

    Bull****.

Sorry, I gotta call it. I know for an absolute fact that ED happened before Willpower even existed. So there is no possible way you played a Claws/Willpower scrapper before ED.

I remember when Willpower was released, and I didn't play before ED happened.

Pretty sure ED happened before City of Villains was released too. So that's 2 ATs that you're blatantly lying about.

Defenders clearly existed before ED, since you didn't specify what powersets I can't say much about it, but judging from how blatantly wrong the other two are I'm guessing the defender is a falsehood as well.
  5. I think it will get the most use by me in an AV fight.

Chem rounds for the most part, switch to standard when Piercing Rounds is up, after debuffing switch to Incendiary to take advantage of the debuffed resistance, switch back to Chem to debuff the AV's damage some more. Maybe switch to Cryo when I get tired of green and yellow bullets and want to see blue ones for a few shots (can't think of any other reason I'd want to in that situation)

    Probably not.

It would probably consider your enemies to be the target of the power and give THEM endurance instead of you. I can't say for sure, but that's how it seems to work in most other powers with more than one possible target. Or it might give both you and them endurance. I don't think it would work like the Theft of Essence proc does in Dark Regeneration if that's what you're getting at. But since I haven't tested that, it might be worth someone going and finding out.

I would have pulled that entire set out of there anyway and replaced it with the Oblits from Quills, and put a set of Multistrike in Quills instead. (Would probably do the same with Blazing Aura)

Slotted like that? Probably about half of what you fight .

It's not a horrible build, but you don't have much accuracy in your single target attacks, so if you fight more than +2 above you, you'll probably end up whiffing a lot.

Try to find a place for a Kismet +Acc IO (it's a defense set IO that must be in an autopower or active toggle to work properly) and it should solve a goodly amount of those accuracy problems.

Stone has the dual disadvantages of forcing you to take Teleport if you want to move faster than a crawl in Granite, and of being kind of squishy until you get Granite. And Stone's KB protection makes you move glacially slow itself. It's not so much KB protection as it is "any kind of movement at all protection". If you're running both Granite Armor AND Rooted, you better have Teleport or a pocket kin if you plan on going anywhere this week.

I'm not entirely sure what disadvantage Ice had, unless it was being a magnet for more agro than you could handle, and being unable to shake that agro even if you wanted to.
I HAVE seen a number of Ice tanks that were rather squishy back when I first started playing (before IOs) Maybe that's what Ice's downside was: being the squishiest tanker set pre-ED, and holding agro better than anything else. (that just doesn't seem fair now that I think about it: "You'll be able to hold agro like nobody's business, but you won't survive it")

They all had SOME kind of disadvantage to make up for what they were good at. That has changed recently into sets that aren't especially good at any one thing, but don't have any real weaknesses either.

I wouldn't. With as small an amount of Energy and Negative resistance as you're packing that 1.26% probably wouldn't even change the number that floats up above you.

The .8 seconds of recharge will probably make more of a difference in the long run than the 1.26% resistance, since the resistance will change a 67 damage hit.....to a 66 damage hit. With as much regen and defense as you're already packing, that 1 HP you didn't lose will be negligible.

I mean, it really doesn't matter a whole lot, but it just doesn't seem like you're gaining enough for it to really be worth it.

This I agree with very much. Impale hits hard enough that you're going to want to slot it to actually deal damage.

    Quote:
Similarly, the damage from Consume is minor. On an End heavy build like this, you need to slot up its End Mod, more than its damage.
I would slot this with Obliteration. Chances are you will be in a large spawn when you fire this power off, so the new and improved Consume can easily be made Perma with your build. (Recovery is increased for 120 seconds, putting Oblits in it drops the recharge down to 72 seconds)

A full set of Numina's Convalescences? In Healing Flame? The ranged defense you get from the set isn't worth it. Move one slot to health, and pop the unique in there. Use 5 Doctored Wounds in Healing Flame.
    I would do exactly this.

    Quote:
Consider investing in the Gladiator's Armor's +3% Def Unique. With the Hero/Villain merits system, it is no longer laughably impossible to get it, just... tedious as you run the same missions over and over to get the merits you need for it.
Meh, if you want to spend the time on it, go for it. I wouldn't consider it a must have though.

    Quote:
You're wasting a lot of possible bonuses with this build. Again, I know, you REALLY want that melee defense... but you are wasting, at the very least, one 9% to-hit bonus in this build.
There are a lot of 9% accuracy bonuses in sets. I routinely "waste" one or two while chasing other bonuses. If there is nothing you need more from those slots I wouldn't consider it a big deal.

    Quote:
I take it this isn't supposed to be a leveling build, right? Because if it is, you need to take Combat Jumping much, much sooner!
    I concur.

Finally, I just personally can't see playing such an End-heavy toon. You may want to consider sacrificing some of your defense to bolster end drain, and bring up your resistances (28% Energy resistance? That's a serious hole!) I think you should still be able to eke out around 30% Melee & S/L defense...
Yes to the bolstering of the resistance. I'd slap a set of Reactive Armor in Plasma Shield, and pick up Temperature Protection. Temperature Protection will give you a convenient place for a Res/Def and KB Protection without gimping anything else to do it.

See my above comment about Consume. It provides +Recovery for 2 minutes after you fire it off, so with the amount of recharge that build is packing, you should be able to perma it easily, and stack it for nearly a minute (assuming it DOES stack, I have no idea as I haven't logged my spines/fire in yet to find out) With that ability, the end problems disappear nicely.

And when Dark Armor and Fire Aura were designed, none of those sets existed yet. That is the point I was trying to make. Electric Armor and Energy Aura were still 2 years away, Willpower was 4 years away, and Shield Defense was 5 years away. You can't expect them to make design decisions based on powersets they hadn't even thought about yet. No one said "We should give Dark Armor KB protection because we're going to make a set called Willpower in 4 years that will have Psionic resistance". Dark could resist something that shredded other sets, so it was given a weakness other sets didn't have.

Fire was, for a while, THE tanker set to play, because it could kill entire zones by itself. Not having KB protection wasn't a big deal for a character that A) Had 6 slotted Stamina to run Acrobatics with, and B) had that much offensive potential.

Yes, things have changed since then, but if anything the lack of KB protection is even less of an issue because we now have many more ways of dealing with it.

I can't see the build from the computer I'm on, but if I had to guess I'd say probably to save a couple slots for other things. Since it's a toggle, the only things you need are End Reduction and Defense. 3 Hami-Os will ED cap both, and you would need a full set of one of the defense sets to do the same.

Hami-Os are still a good way to go if you're not concerned about set bonuses in a power.

On a guess I'd say it has 2 or 3 Hami-Os in it and a LotG +Recharge. That's how I'd slot it if I were going to use Hamis in Heightened Senses.

Since you're apparently the best scrapper builder that ever lived, how about you show us n00bs how it's done.

Minor nitpick: The power is called Hoarfrost. Frostwork is the power in Cold Domination that does basically the same thing for someone else.

Edit: You're actually correct anyway, since Frostwork increases max HP, tankers DO get more benefit out of it now. I was just pointing out that the power in Ice Armor is called Hoarfrost.

The KB protection IO does nothing to protect from Immobilize, you need a separate power to do that, which is why Combat Jumping was suggested, it has immobilize protection as part of it's effect.

At the moment, I'd say Combat Jumping will benefit you more.
  16. Yep, they will stack with each other.

Irradiate, Whirling Sword, and Lotus Drops can all slot both of them at the same time.

  18. Saw a character running around awhile back named Helena Handbasket.

There's a character on Pinnacle that's a Mastermind with the comb-over hairstyle named Hell Toupe.

Another (Fire/Kin corruptor) named Speedo Demon, he's a demon wearing nothing but black briefs.

One of mine: A fire/fire blaster who's powers first manifested in a post office, his name is Return to Cinder.

Sam and I don't always see eye to eye, but I am in complete agreement with him on this one.

I can go to the movies and easily spend more than $15 between the ticket and any snacks I may want to have while watching it. That's more than $15 for 3 hours of entertainment at most. If I want to watch that movie again, I have to pay full price again

I pay $15 for my CoH subscription and I can play as much as I want (or have time for) every month. Quite literally entertainment limited only by the amount of free time I have, rather than how much money I have to spend on it.

In contrast, a console based video game costs around $60, and I haven't seen too many console based games that give me 4 months of entertainment, which is what it would take to equal my CoH subscription.

And on another note. Games that go F2P after having been subscription based tend to have their atmosphere go downhill quickly. Currently, people behave themselves most of the time, because their account is costing them money and they don't want to get banned. If CoH were free, people would play the game and be complete jerkwads to everyone they meet, because they don't CARE if they get banned from a game they aren't paying anything for. They just laugh and move on to the next free game to be a jerkwad in.

Any name that is a well known trademarked character is blocked.

You can tell by what it tells you when you try to name a character that.

If it says "That name is already in use" it means someone is already using it.

If it says "That name is unavailable" it means that name has been blocked for some reason.

I would also guess that any name which has been generic'd will also have been blocked from future use. That's just because I can't imagine the GMs would want to generic "1ron Man" over and over.
  21. I read the thread title as "Marital Prowess"

Was seriously wondering for a couple seconds what powers could possibly be in that set.

    New n00bs

What's this "team" you speak of?

Is that the 7 other people that are doing things while I'm stabbing stuff in the face?

It's a video game, dying is not the end of the world. You didn't fail at life because a fictional, pixelated character had a variable number reduced to zero. I'm more annoyed when I DC than when I die.

If you have someone standing behind you with a gun, ready to shoot you in the head if your character drops I could see being uptight about it. But that probably isn't the case for anyone playing (though I wonder where that one scrapper went that I teamed with a while back.....)

Earthquake is an awesome power, just don't use Earthquake and then Stone Cages, since Stone Cages will override the knockdown from Earthquake and make it pointless.
  24. The only downsides I found are

    A) It will only hit 5 targets

Most fun? That is an extremely loaded question. I can give you an answer, and there's a good chance everyone else that posts will give you a different answer.

The only real advice I have for you is to look around in the character creator and try out the sets that didn't exist when you last played. Depending on how long you've been gone that could be a couple new sets, or almost a dozen new sets.
