  1. Was just screwing around in Mid's and came up with this build.

It seems pretty solid. Softcapped to Smashing, Lethal, and Energy using Scorpion Shield, and even with Stamina becoming inherent it could probably run without it with Power Sink recharging in 26 seconds.

Any improvements anyone can see (that don't involve purples or PvP IOs)?

  2. Already have 5 LotGs anyway.

I could replace the Concealment pool with Leaping and take Combat Jumping, but that would leave me with places to pt 4 LotGs, as opposed to the 5 I have on this build.

I could take Shadow Meld, but I didn't really want to take this character villainside, so if I can avoid it I'd like to.

Probably, but the most common defense debuff in the game is a machine gun. A couple Council goons open up with em and my defense goes away in a hurry, since /Regen doesn't have any kind of debuff resistance at all. Lethal will protect against that (slightly), while melee won't.

It's still going to happen, but if I focus on melee it will happen much sooner, since there won't be much of anything stopping the bullets from hitting the first time.

Also, I'd like some kind of defense against those damned Council Marksmen that spawn 5 at a time and slow the crap out of me. A slowed /Regen is, more often than not, a DEAD /Regen.

Question 2: Which defends against more attacks for a scrapper on average, melee or S/L defense?
See above. Anyone shooting a machine gun at me will strip my defense away to nothing quickly, and there are a lot of enemy groups that will stand off and shoot you while some of their buddies engage you in melee.

Since I don't have a taunt aura of any kind, or really any way to decide where they are going (other than Shockwave), if they decide to fan out and shoot me instead I'm kind of screwed.

Every attack that misses me is one that I don't have to heal back. And if they debuff my defense, they aren't going to be missing me for long. I've built for melee defense before, and monitored it in fights. Against Council, Malta, Crey, 5th Column, and just about any other enemy group that fires machine guns, my defense lasts about 5-6 seconds into a fight, after which I might as well have focused all my slots on recharge instead.

Just my attempt to try and get defense that isn't made pointless by defense debuffs.
  4. I regret 3, all more for the names I lost more than anything else.

    Infinity Zero, a Kin/Sonic Defender

    Infinite Recursion, a Sonic/Ice blaster.

Taken for Granite, a stone (duh!) tank.

I tried using all those names again, only to find that they were all taken. The Kin/Sonic was the highest level at level 25.

    True.

And if he had said he wanted it for that reason, I would have left it alone. But he specifically said that he wanted the power to grief people with, which I take a rather dim view on.

  7. I was looking into options for my post I19 build for my main and came up with this one.

It puts me a small purple away from softcap to smashing and lethal damage, and has perma DP potential.

Anyone see any obvious flaws, or inobvious ones, that I may have missed?

    Dark Tanks

Here's my Dark/Ice build. I can't take all the credit, my wife did the majority of the work, I just tweaked it to suit my own taste.

I already had Smashing and Lethal softcapped, she helped me get the Energy and Negative up there.

There's a LOT of things that have changed about Claws/Regen since those days, so it's entirely possible the build is a little out of date.

    - Slash hasn't had the "baseball pitch" animation for a long time now, it is now a 1-2 punch animation that is shared by Barrage and Frozen Fists. And Swipe is no longer the "AAAAAHHHHH I'm going to flail my arms wildly and hope I hit you!" animation.

    - Moment of Glory is an awesome power now, and one that no /Regen of any kind should be without.

    - They removed the annoying as hell pause after using Follow Up, it's a lot smoother and isn't so disruptive of your attack chain.

ED was actually a good thing. Because of it, we got the invention system, and most characters that take advantage of it are much better than their pre-ED counterparts. But I wasn't here back then, so I can only speak from hearsay.

Here's what I came up with:

The pricey stuff in it will be: Performance Shifter +End, the Luck of the Gambler pieces, the Numina's Convalescence, the Steadfast Protection Resistance/Defense, the Kismet +6% Accuracy (which you can leave out and be fine) and the Achille's Heel Chance for -Res. I suggest using merits or Hero merits to acquire those. The rest of the stuff I used runs from dirt freakin cheap to moderately expensive, but nothing too crazy (I don't think anything I used in the build goes for more than 20-25 million at most)

Always buy it as a recipe and craft it yourself, it will be MUCH cheaper to do it that way (some of the Crushing Impacts will be 100,000 as a recipe and 2-5 million as an enhancement). Also, look at levels other than level 50 IOs, sometimes a level 47 will be less than half the price and only lose .6% effectiveness.

The downside to doing that is you will end up paying more for salvage to craft it than you paid for the recipe, tell your wife to hang on to any rare salvage she gets, and make sure she keeps her recipe inventory with enough space for recipes to drop (can't get those cash cow purple drops if your inventory is full)

Hope that helps you guys out, and have fun with it!

My wife has an L50 Claw/Regen that she loves to solo with, on Heroic. It's her only main. Right now she's kitted out only with SOs (I know, I know... we've been away for a long time).

Just wondering if anyone has a decent L50 cookie-cutter build with IO slotting that suitable for casual soloing on Heroic (or maybe Tenacious), just following standard contacts/paper/radio/tip/morality missions. She doesn't do task forces or anything advanced.

She has about 12 million INF to burn right now on IO or recipes and comps as needed. Not sure whether that's considered a "low budget" for L50 IOs or plenty of scratch to build out anything from Auction House purchases. So that amount of INF is one constraint, and the other is we don't want to deal with PvP to find PvP-specific IOs.

Any recommendations? The IO system is way too much to wade through and figure out, honestly. I'm just not up to the task these days. We just want to play and have fun for i18 and i19.

Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to help out!
Well, the budget is EXTREMELY low these days, to be honest. 12 million will get you a few of the cheaper sets, but probably won't be kitting out an entire build. Fortunately, influence isn't hard to earn in the game at all, and you can pretty easily build up enough to put together a decent build. A lot of the recipes I use tend to drop in the course of normal play as well.

I actually recommend running at least the signature task forces, for the accolade it grants if nothing else. That would be Positron, Synapse, Sister Psyche, Citadel, Manticore, and Numina. It's not necessarily mandatory, but it helps.

Any story arcs you complete will grant reward merits (you can tell you're on a story arc wen you see an open book in the contact's window). And there are some fun ones that can be done through Ouroboros. (If you don't have access to Ouroboros, run Holsten Armitage's arc, he's the level 30-35 Science origin store, his mission grants the Ouro portal, you can find him in the bottom right corner of Brickstown)

Also, doing morality missions will get you Hero merits, that can also be spent to get some of the rarer/more expensive IOs. If you get a purple drop, take it to the auction house and sell it, and chances are that will get you enough cash for your entire build.

It's really not as complicated as it sounds, and you can do all of it just playing the game, without going too far out of your normal playstyle.

If no one else responds with a build, I'll post one when I get home from work. My main is a Claws/Regen, so I know a thing or two about building them. I can promise that 12 million won't be enough to finish the build I give you, but it's not going to be OMG expensive either. If the character is already level 50, she can put the build together as she goes.

I had the bug hit me on my main.

Not realizing it, I used the vetspec I was granted in that fashion. Since I had already used it, when I legitimately earned that Veteran Reward, I did not get a second vetspec on that character (but the ones who did not get hit with the bug all received theirs)

So, you can use things that were granted by accident, and it won't grant you a second one. I doubt you'll get in trouble for using anything you get like that, I didn't, and after I got the legit reward it all evened itself out.

Actually, it has nothing to do with the cottage rule.

The cottage rule would be if they took PFF and changed it into a Targeted AoE attack without changing the name of the power. (for example)

Since they are replacing one power with a completely different power, it doesn't fall under the cottage rule.

Cottage rule only applies when they make drastic changes to a power.

And they HAD to change it, because Controllers have access to PFF in the Force Field set, and they don't allow us to have multiple copies of the same power available to an AT. That's why Conserve Power became Energize when tanks and scrappers got Electric Armor, because both ATs have access to Conserve Power in an APP. And since it still provides an end reduction to your powers when you use it, that change isn't breaking the cottage rule.

Personally, I'd rather see the Patron Pool get changed than see /FF controllers lose PFF.

Yep, Werner has a truly disgusting Kat/DA. And I have a moderately disgusting BS/DA that has soloed a few AVs.

I'm pretty sure my DM/Nin stalker can solo a few AVs. I tanked Eochai for quite a while during the Halloween event a couple years back (completely by accident, I jumped in and didn't notice the rest of the team didn't come with me), so I don't think survivability will be an issue. And I'm pretty sure my stalker's DPS is higher than my BS/DA scrapper's, so if he could do it, so can the stalker.

How do you plan on dealing with: Zombie puke (ranged/Toxic), Clockwork (ranged/Energy), Vahzilok Eidolons (ranged Energy and N.Energy), CoT ghosts (which will floor your to-hit)

The zombie puke you COULD have had some resistance to, but you took the power that grants it at level 28 (Reconstruction)

The Clockwork energy damage will slaughter you, and drain your end. You can't heal it back, because you took Reconstruction at level 28

The Kismet proc doesn't work how you think it does. It is only active when the power it is in is active. By putting it in Divine Avalanche you are basically making it so you need to hit in order to get a to-hit buff, which the CoT ghosts will pretty effectively nullify. (I didn't know that myself until recently)

By not slotting your attacks for damage, you're making it so it will take you longer to kill things. If you take longer to kill things, your inability to heal is going to get you killed because you took Reconstruction at level 28 (noticing a trend?)

I'm just pointing out what is wrong with your build here. I could post a build that would work better, but I'm not going to because A) I'm at work and don't have access to Mid's, and B) I take a dim view of people who openly admit to taking a power for the sole purpose of griefing other players.

So, with the things I pointed out in mind, you should be able to figure out how to fix it yourself. Have a nice day.

    Solo the Posi TF

If you think you can solo an AV at level 15, go for it.

One question though: Why the bloody hell would you slot so many of your attacks with a defense debuff set? You aren't getting ANY damage enhancement, and without it it's going to take you forever to kill anything, and a /Regen that takes too long to kill something is a dead regen.

And why would you put Reconstruction off until level 28? That is one of the biggest parts of your survivability in low levels.

Honestly, that is the worst Kat/Regen build I've seen in a LONG time. There's no way in hell you're soloing Doc Vahz with that build, it's just plain NOT gonna happen.

The series is a lot less like that. It's set up so you can watch them in any order (except a few 2 parters) and not really miss anything. You probably SHOULD watch them in order, but you aren't required to.

    /rant off
Just because the servers are up doesn't mean the LOG IN server is up and running. It's another server that directs you to the specific server you want to be on.

I imagine they bring the servers back up first and take some time to make sure everything is working right before they start letting people log on.

I'd be MORE annoyed if I logged on and crashed in the middle of something because something was borked and they didn't bother to check it first.

There's a half-hour scene in a cold room between one man and one woman debating the ethics of what it means to be alive and if a machine can ever be alive. It was supposed to be deep and dramatic, but it just about put me to sleep.

The more I think about it, the more I realise that my favourite stories are objective-driven in the same way games up. "This" must be done. How do we do it? Oh, we need to find "that" out and do "this other thing." OK, let's go do those. Oh, we can't because of "other things." I prefer stories driven by people doing things, with ethics, morality, philosophy and so forth used to justify and explain the actions, rather than stories driven by inaction and contemplation. And that's not to say I don't like contemplation, but you can still contemplate in a goal-oriented manner, depending on how it's written. By far the BIGGEST problem with anime isn't catgirls or brainless action. It's contemplating your naval for about 24 episodes, then something happens in the next two, then you proceed to contemplate your naval for another season. I fully regret watching Divergence Eve (DO NOT see it) for this precise reason.
Check out some of the series' I mentioned in my first post on the subject of anime, if you haven't already. I'll repeat em if you don't feel like digging through the rest of the thread.

Trinity Blood, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and a few others I neglected to mention the first time: Samurai 7, Basilisk, Fate Stay/Night, and the very short anime adaptation of Devil May Cry was actually pretty good (they got the same guy to voice Dante that did his voice in all the games, so there's no disconnect between the games and the series)

All of them, for the most part, are a balance between story-driven and action. There's no half hour dialogues, and there is SOME kind of action sequence in just about every episode. Gungrave is a weird blend, they do the same kind of balance, but it seems to be on an episode by episode basis. Some episodes will be mostly story, while others are mostly action. Also of note, Gungrave was based on a shooter-style video game that came out a couple years before the show.

My tank is only level 18 at the moment, so I haven't taken either aura yet. Cloak of Fear is getting slotted with Siphon Insight to help with the S/L defense (since Ice doesn't have a whole lot of ST attacks to slot Kinetic Combats in). I took Oppressive Gloom in my Mid's build because I was running into a problem of having too many power picks that needed slotting, so I needed to take one that requires little or no slotting, and Oppressive Gloom fits that bill nicely. Plus it will stack with other people's stuns to stun bosses. I probably won't be running both of them all the time.

Glad to hear it! Although, I'd be worried if a tank was less survivable than a scrapper (equal budgets assumed), unless it was a fire tank to a non-fire scrapper.

I'd be interested to hear what the variations are. Perhaps there are ideas I could use.
Well, before she finished her tank's build, her scrapper was her most survivable character (much like my softcapped BS/DA scrapper). So, it's more of a comparison between characters she plays.

I'll shoot you her build in a PM if she'd rather not post it publicly. She reads the forums, and has a forum account, but seldom posts herself. She has fewer than 100 posts to my almost 5,000.

My Dark tank is Dark/Ice. Don't really have an over-abundance of PBAoEs on that build. I managed to softcap smashing and lethal pretty easily in Mid's, but I'm having difficulty getting E/NE above the mid-high 30's.

I'm building him as a tanktroller, more focused on making sure the enemy can't do squat than actually dealing damage to them. To that end I'm planning on taking Ice Patch, Cloak of Fear AND Oppressive Gloom. Since the mobs will be staggering/falling down, and/or cowering in fear, I should be able to take them out at my leisure as long as my endurance holds out.

Incidentally, Dechs, my wife is running a variation of your DA/Fire build and she's absolutely loving it. He's more survivable than her DB/SR scrapper by quite a bit.
  25. Well, an enhanced Single Target hold for a controller is going to be in effect for ~15 seconds or so. If you can't either A) Defeat your target, or B) reapply the hold before that 15 seconds is up, you have bigger problems than your set bonuses not adding enough duration. Having set bonuses add large amounts of duration is going to be redundant in most cases because the enemy you mezzed is probably going to be dead long before that mez wears off anyway.

My Sonic/Devices blaster uses Siren's Song on a spawn, and has no problem defeating the entire spawn before the duration runs out, and even if he can't, he can reapply it easily enough. On a similar note, my Dominator can keep his single target hold on something pretty much as long as I want it to stay held for.

The only powers that you can't keep on something pretty much indefinitely as it currently stands are the long recharge AoE mezzes, and I'm pretty sure you can't stack them by design.
