Quote:Not true.
Now, if you could get your Ice Patch to only affect the bosses and lieuts, then we'd be on to something. But if it's knocking down something that is stunned already, then it's not working to its full potential like it might with the other sets.
When a minion gets stunned the first thing it will do is start wandering away from you. Speaking from my experience with a Dark Armor scrapper, minions will quickly scatter and leave the radius of Death Shroud. If the Ice patch is knocking them down while they are stunned, they are going to stay nicely clumped around you, and completely unable to do anything at all while taking the damage from Death Shroud consistently.
The biggest problem I have with Oppressive Gloom is that anything stunned by it will wander away from you, and turn around and shoot you after the stun wears off. Using Ice Patch to keep them right there next to you will ensure that they will not only keep taking damage, but the stun from OGloom will keep stacking and keep the stun from ever wearing off. -
Quote:Just one thing to say about this:
I've never seen a Dark/Ice Tanker before, and while nothing would really be a poor combo there, there's also not too much direct synergy going on, either.
Oppressive Gloom + Ice Patch + Death Shroud + Cloak of Fear
Between all those powers you will be virtually untouchable. They'll be stunned, terrorized, and falling down simultaneously, all while taking ticks of damage from Death Shroud. You could pull an agro cap sized group into a corner, put Ice Patch on autofire, and just walk away from the computer, knowing that when you come back that entire group will be defeated. If you slot the Armageddon: Chance for Fire Damage proc in Death Shroud, you can make it go even faster.
There's actually a LOT of synergy in DA/Ice if you think outside the box about it. I'm leveling one right now in fact. (Which I rolled because I'd never seen one before either) -
I still think this is a dumb rationale. If people's personal morals dictated what they are willing to do in a video game, games like Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt (to cite some examples) wouldn't be as popular as they are.
Saying "I can't be evil, so I won't play a villain character." is like an actor turning down a role because they wouldn't behave that way in real life. It isn't YOU doing those things, it's not like you suddenly become a horrible person in real life because you did some bad things in a completely fictional digital environment.
Saying "I don't play villainside because I don't like the story arcs there." or "I don't play villainside because I don't like teh ATs I can start over there." is a lot more reasonable than saying "I don't play villainside because I'm a good person and I would never do those things."
There are a number of valid reasons to not want to play villainside. Avoiding it because you think doing bad things in a video game reflects on your real personality is not one of them. Sure, a lot of people probably do avoid villainside for that exact reason, but if that is their only reason, then they are, in my opinion, idiots.
*Sits back and waits for Golden Girl to come along and tell me I'm wrong, and that playing a villain in a game does make you a bad person* -
Quote:This is a horrible idea.1. Twenty levels worth of XP for new toons in one click. Seriously, after 6+ years playing, doesn't anyone really need to re-level a new toon any more?
I'll explain why.
How did you first learn how to play the game? If you're anything like me, or thousands of other players, you wandered around confused about how everything works for a few days before you met a veteran player who was leveling a new character, and they took you along with them and showed you the ropes.
If those veteran players can suddenly jump to level 20, there is going to be a severe shortage of low level characters played by people who actually know what they are doing. That is going to make getting into the game a LOT harder for those players who don't realize the forums exist to ask questions in. I remembered that a veteran player helped me out when I first started, so now that I have become one myself I help newbies out, and when they become veterans they will (hopefully) do the same.
Furthermore, allowing veteran players to skip the first 20 levels entirely would cause a HUGE backlash among the playerbase. How would YOU feel if suddenly someone who has been playing for longer than you could skip the first 20 levels, but you still had to slog through them? There would probably be some resentment of that player.
There's enough whining about how veteran players have an unfair advantage already (It's not really true, but the whining happens regardless). If the ability to jump straight to level 20 was handed out as a veteran reward, the complaints that veterans have an unfair advantage would be much more justified.
Now, this one I like.Quote:2. Carp Melee. Just a temp power that allows me to hit another player with a fish. Because when some noobs says "we can't start until we have a healer" he's going to get it. -

Quote:If you're going to play on Pinnacle and want to team in the middle of the night, you need to join PinnBadges and/or Cozmic's Playground. There are a significant number of late-night players on Pinnacle, but your odds of running across them in a random zone are slim.
And for them, it may be incredibly difficult to form task forces, or they play in low-populated servers. I used to play in Pinnacle for a while. In the morning by Eastern Time.
I not only could not find a team, but I couldn't start one either! There was virtually no one online to play with!!! -
Quote:But due to the random nature of the random number generator, it is entirely possible that the one you play for an hour on Saturdays will end up with more.If I play one level 50 for 3 hours every day and another 50 for 1 hour on Saturdays, their chances of getting four shards within a month are not exactly the same.
The question I have is: Why the bloody hell is everyone so obsessed with getting everything right frigging NOW?
Seriously, play the game and you will get your lewt. If you rush to get all your shinys right now you're going to feel like you're working a video game instead of playing one. They aren't shutting the servers down any time soon, so you have plenty of time to get your stuff.
I mean, is the obsession based in some misguided notion that if you get your stuff sooner than someone else it means you are better than them, or what?
I seriously don't understand the kind of mindset that leads someone to take a video game so seriously that they actually get angry when they can't have their status symbols just because they held their hand out for them. Do their lives suck so much they have to do well in a game to feel good about themselves? Are they just jacktards that like to brag that "I got it first, you suck!"? It seriously baffles me.
If anyone can explain that mindset in a way that makes some kind of sense, please do. -

Quote:I'm pretty sure it does. My hoverblaster can frequently move immediately after using it, but it doesn't work all the time, so I'm inclined to think it is a bug related to Hover, rather than an intentional feature.does Aid Self root you for its cast time, or are you just hampered by the interrupt time?
Pretty sure you're correct on this, but I can't confirm directly. I know there is much mention of SR scrappers being at 95% DDR on the scrapper boards. Knowing the character building monsters that frequent that forum, if there was a way to get it higher than 95%, I'm sure someone would have figured it out by now.Quote:Also, I believe the DDR cap is 95%, but I can't seem to find confirmation on that.
So, it's not proof, but my educated guess leans towards "Yes, the DDR cap is 95%" -
Sonic will be the best bet for a blaster out of the 3 options you've given.
Look at the powers you get and when: A full ST attack chain by level 8 (Shriek, Scream, Shriek, Shout). and 2 good cones Howl, Psychic Scream) by level 10. You will be using primarily those powers for your entire career, and you get all 5 of them before you can even get DOs.
A little later on you get the best soloing tool available to ANY blaster in Siren's Song. Screech is very nice for handling a pesky mezzing LT.
If you go villainside with it and take Soul Mastery you will get 2 MORE cones to use, one of which is also an AoE immobilize to ensure that you keep them at range (at which point you can respec out of TK Thrust). You also get Dark Embrace, which is a decent resist shield, and Oppressive Gloom which you can stack with Screech to stun a boss that wanders into melee with you, or it can also keep minions from attacking in melee.
I would go Sonic/Mental/Soul on this one, for sure. -
Any well played Controller.
I don't have the patience to level them myself, but I know how powerful they can become. -
Quote:The problem with writing new guides is that there are a ridiculous number of different things you can do with a build now that IOs exist.I believe making sure every guide is labeled with the Issue number that was current when the guide was last updated is sufficient. Legacy information should be retained for the sake of legacy/archive itself, if nothing else.
That said, I am disappointed with how few new guides have been written lately. Yeah, there's a few great ones regarding the new Alignment system and what-not, but there's not nearly enough build guides for the newer or more recently proliferated power sets.
Before, writing a guide was comparitively easy, because there was only one type of enhancement, and no such thing as set bonuses. Back then thee was no discussion of softcapping a blaster to ranged defense because it just wasn't possible to do (and no one knew what the softcap even WAS, because they hadn't given us the numbers behind the system yet)
Do you build that Willpower tank for defense, recharge, regen, Max HP, or a combination of all of them? Do you build your controller for defense or recharge? There are just so many questions that crop up with every choice you make that it is virtually impossible for any one person to write a guide that will be useful to everyone.
Doesn't seem so much like anyone wants to write a guide when every decision you make about your build leads to more decisions you have to make about your build.
And nowadays, what Alpha enhancement do you go for with a build? You can't say "This Alpha slot is the best for this build" because which slot is best depends on the decisions you made concerning the rest of the build. -
Quote:You know.. I heard you complain about endurance issues on other threads and I suspected you had no idea whatsoever how to build a character.
This just confirms that for me.I didn't really see that as him being a dick. I saw that as him being honest.Quote:A thread moving in a positive direction and someone just HAS to be a dick. Try to stay on topic, hm?
I happen to agree that it seems like your biggest problem is that enhancements and endurance don't work like you think they should, and instead of going to the effort of learning how they actually DO work, you decided that complaining repeatedly was the answer.
Listen to Mod08. he knows what he's talking about and explained your problem much nicer than anyone else has in quite a while. And everyone else? They aren't necessarily going out of their way to be mean.
Let me ask you something and see what you think: If someone kept asking the same questions over and over, and you kept answering them the same way, wouldn't you get tired of being nice about it after a while?
You would, wouldn't you? Well, so did we.
You have been blaming the game for your endurance problems this entire time, and this thread proves pretty conclusively that the problem is you, and not the game like you kept saying.
I can't really say I blame anyone for losing patience with you, you've been incredibly abrasive about the whole thing, and refusing to accept that the problem might be your approach to it.
You cannot force a computer program to behave the way you want it to just because you refuse to change how you approach it. This may come as a shock, but when it comes to a battle of stubbornness between a human and a computer program, the computer program is going to win every time. -
Sonic is always a viable choice as well. Yes, it is two commonly resisted damage types (smashing/energy), but the secondary effect of applying a -resistance debuff evens it out in the end. It will reduce the resistance of those enemies that resist S/E, and it will do even MORE damage against those that don't.
-
Quote:I guess you completely missed the compromise I offered earlier in the thread. In fact I KNOW you missed it because you responded to the last sentence in the post and disregarded the rest.I give up. Attempting to reason with you is just as productive as arguing with a brick wall.
Protection does not nor should it ever equal resistance (or shorter duration).
Understand that for once please!
I will repeat it, even though I shouldn't have to. Here is exactly what I said, quoted from my own post.
You keep saying I'm being unreasonable. Yet you are the one who completely ignored my attempt at a compromise we could all live with. So, who's being unreasonable again?Quote:I'm not entirely against the possibility of a compromise.
I wouldn't have a problem with, for example, increasing the hold protection in Acrobatics from Mag 2 to Mag 3. It's already there, so increasing the amount of protection by 1 wouldn't be a big deal.
I also wouldn't have a problem with increasing the amount of mez resistance IOs grant you to an amount actually worth slotting for. Currently, the 1-2% resistance you can get out of them isn't even worth the slots you spend on it. Increasing that to 5-6% for the majority and maybe 10-15% for the exceptionally rare ones shouldn't unbalance anything, and might make things a little easier for those who choose to play support characters.
I still don't think support characters should be given passive protection from everything, but there IS room for compromise.
Isn't the bolded/italicized part EXACTLY what you're asking for? And I said I wouldn't have a problem with it. But yet I'm somehow being unreasonable. Right. -
And how exactly is this going to work?
You can't even GET shards until you are level 50 and have run the arc. If you are never going to level again, getting a shard when you level is really pointless.
Unless you're proposing a level cap raise, in which case I have to say HELL NO. -
At least for a stalker it will crit while in Hide, scrappers don't even get that benefit.
-
Trying to softcap positional defense on a Willpower character is a waste of time and resources, and will be an exercise in frustration for you. (Not trying to be mean, just giving my honest opinion.)
Why are positional defenses a waste of slots? Because Heightened Senses (Willpower's only native defense power) gives you TYPED defense, instead of the positional all your slotted sets here provide.
The way you are slotted right now, your native defense powers and bonuses are working against each other. You get some typed defense from Heightened Senses, and some positional from your set bonuses, but since they do not stack with each other, they are actually working against each other, resulting in less overall defense than if you chose bonuses that will stack with Heightened Senses.
Some sets you can use to get typed defense include: Kinetic Combat (S/L), Eradication (E/N), Reactive Armor (S/L/E/N), Rectified Reticle (S/L), and a number of others that aren't coming to mind off hand.
Here's what I did with your build. I swapped around a few powers here and there, and reslotted some stuff, I ended up giving you MUCH better defensive values than I thought I could. Energy and Negative Energy are softcapped, and Smashing and Lethal are at 43%, which is so close to softcapped it might as well be. Fire and Cold are the lowest values at 34.9%, but attacks that are pure Fire or Cold damage are exceptionally rare, most of the time your S/L defense will prevent it from landing.
I dropped Confront, because you don't really need it. I took the slots that were in it and put them in Boxing for a set of Kinetic Combat. You were getting a 2.5% bonus to S/L defense from Mocking Beratement, slotting Kinetic Combat in Boxing gives you 3.75%.
I also took a few powers earlier than you had them, like Spin and Maneuvers. And I took Strength of Will and put your 2 defense uniques in there instead.
It also has 2,195 HP, and is around 1,000% regen with 10 targets in RttC. It has just under 50% resistance to Smashing and Lethal damage as well.
You lost a little bit of recharge, but honestly, Willpower doesn't benefit from recharge at all, and Claws can run a good attack chain with very little recharge. In my experience, running Follow Up-Slash-Focus-Strike deals pretty solid damage, and should be doable with the amount of recharge I left you.
Here's the build, hope it helps you in your quest for clawsomeness:

Yes, the Honoree mission is difficult. It's supposed to be hard.
You didn't really think the path to godlike power was going to be a walk in the park, did you?
Oh, I guess you did.
With the amount of potential power you can achieve through the Incarnate system, did you really expect the devs to say: "Oh, well we're giving you the ability to become a living god through the Well of Furies. And to attain this power? We're going to have you do the same kind of stuff you've all been making a mockery of for the past 6 1/2 years."?
Remember how hard the ITF was when it was first introduced? How about Kahn and Barracuda? Yeah, they were pretty rough back then, weren't they? Now we have people routinely doing half hour ITFs and 15-20 minute Kahns.
They have to make things more difficult at some point, or people are going to be stomping all over the "end game" just like they've been doing with TFs for years now.
This is probably just the beginning of the more difficult stuff. And to achieve the level of power we're getting, it should be difficult.
Personally, I'm happy they gave us a few missions that require more strategy than "run in and punch the big bad until he falls over". And I hope they continue to give us such missions.
(Note: This post was not directed at any particular individual, it is just my feelings on the matter) -
Quote:Except they don't really SEE themselves as evil. They think they are doing a good thing, just like any other evil organization. It always seemed like an odd name for the center of an evil organization...
The town being called "Grandville" implies that it is a NICE place, as opposed to the place where all of Recluse's plans are carried out at. -
Quote:I am aware of those powers. That's why I added the phrase "for the most part". Some support AT powersets do indeed have mez protection in them, I suspect to make up for the relative lack of ways to prevent them inherent within those sets. Traps is a bit of an odd one, since it has several ways to prevent them as well as having protection. The catch there is you have to make sure you don't outrun your FFG or you'll find your protection disappeared at a bad time. The odd thing is that some support ATs do have mez protection. Force Field for instance gets mag 8-ish Hold, Stun, and Immob protection in their big bubble. They're still vulnerable to sleep. Also knockback, but several melee sets have that hole as well and it's easily plugged by IOs. Traps gets the same power, but from a pet (so it doesn't suppress if you do get mezzed, but can be killed early by an enemy).
Also, you left out Sonic Resonance. It has the same ability in Sonic Dispersion, which is more or less identical to Dispersion bubble, only it gives resistance instead of defense. -
Quote:For a lot of people, the answer is "yes".You like something. You want something. That thing has a cost. This cost gives meaning and definition to that thing you want so much, cause if it didn't then you wouldn't want it so much. That's the basis of a game driven on rewards and accomplishments. You do something, you get rewarded for it.
Is that concept really that hard to understand?
Think about it. We live in a society where you don't have to put any effort in to graduate high school because of the "No child left behind" rules. We live in a society where it is not only possible, but extremely easy to live off the government with no effort expended by yourself.
So, yes, the idea that you have to work to receive something is a foreign concept to a depressingly large number of people.
(I'm not trying to start a political discussion, just pointing out that a lot of people truly don't understand why they have to put effort into something to be rewarded.)
