I still find it hard to believe that you have never tried ANY other power set.
Especially considering that there are other options for a completely natural character now who doesn't kill people.
Street Justice, Staff Fighting for primaries.
And Willpower, Shield, and SR for secondaries.
Street Justice/Shield is actually quite fun and very natural feeling. -
Aside from getting caught by another resurrected thread:
The type who would complain about not getting everything they had before for free strike me as also being the type who would go into a restaurant and say:
"Hey, I've eaten here before. Since I gave you money in the past, feed me for free now"
The key difference here is that the devs basically responded with: "You want to eat for free? We can do that. Here's a grilled cheese sandwich. Oh, you want a steak? You're going to have to pay for that."
The hypothetical free restaurant in this case IS letting you eat for free. But you don't get to choose from the whole menu.
(actually kind of a good analogy) -
Quote:I can explain part of the reasoning. Thanks a bunch for the feedback. I did know you can use a different build, though would take me some time rebuild the powers in the right order and such. The only problem with it is that, my Hero won't have as much potential as it used to be. I know it's free to play, I realize there has to be some drawbacks and I understand that. I just wanted to know why they would do this. I'm fine with all the other restrictions such as me not being able to publish my missions in the AE, that is a downside for me but I could live with that. But my IO's made my character. Nonetheless I appreciate your feedback and and glad that I am being heard. I mean all of this in the nicest way and I wouldn't want to get attacked by people saying i'm asking for too much, but I just want to be heard, and let NCSoft know how I feel about it. Thanks again.
If you could come back and play your characters exactly as they were before without paying anything at all, how many people would continue to pay a subscription fee.
Simply put, if they didn't gate SOMETHING behind having to pay for it, you'd have a whole lot of players playing for free and the game would make less money.
NCSoft (the game's parent company) has proven in the past that they are NOT reluctant to pull the plug on an unprofitable game. I don't think they would be swayed by sentimentality. Basically, the game has to remain above a certain profit margin consistently or it will quite simply cease to exist and our devs will find themselves out of a job.
If they were to give people too much for free, that scenario becomes more likely.
Looking at it like that, does $2 a month sound like a more reasonable price to have your characters at the same level they were before? Every player who spends even a couple bucks is helping the game stay alive.
Also, if you do that for long enough, you WILL eventually reach the point where your IOs are permanently unlocked. When you buy your first round of points you get a reward token. Every 1200 points you buy after that grants another one. Since you need to buy points to acquire the IO license, you are working toward having them forever every time you buy as few as 400 (you don't need to buy the 1200 all at once). You need 27 tokens to unlock IOs forever. If you subscribed for a significant amount of time in the past, you should have some tokens already, so it's just a matter of making up the difference. -
It's actually interesting.
Bonfire went from the most skipped power in Fire Control, to the most powerful control available to it.
I expect this to be tweaked once the devs realize how overpowered it becomes with the KB->KD proc. I actually have the feeling they kind of overlooked this application. -
Quote:Nope.Sorry, but Volcanic Gasses is much, much better than Cinders. I would still give the edge to Earth for Control, but I am very much looking forward to trying out this proc in Bonfire. I just need to find more slots for Bonfire now.
The KD proc in Bonfire is ridiculous.
100% constant KD in a power that can be perma with minimal recharge slotting. You can have that kind of control over every spawn. It actually made my Fire/Kin almost boring to play because he was going through spawns with zero risk of even getting damaged, let alone defeated.
You have permanant unbreakable control over entire groups of enemies, provided they are not knockback resistant. They flop on the ground, and then flop again before they even get up, and they keep doing that for the entire duration of the power, at which point you can just lay down another one.
I'm honestly expecting this to be tweaked a bit, it's a little overpowered. -
Quote:I understand where you're coming from.No. It it wholly irrelevant what others can do. I recognize that this premise is difficult to wrap ones head around, but it is the truth.
But consider this:
Eventually, the game will shut down forever. We don't get to keep ANY of the stuff we acquired in the game.
Except the memories of having done those things. We get to keep those.
The things you earned, you will remember the fun you had earning them.
The guy who bought those same things? He'll remember typing in his credit card number.
Who wins in the end?
To further your athletic analogy (a rather apt one I think).
Someday, the star quarterback of your football team might recognize you in the grocery store and spend a few minutes reminiscing about the time you won that game by 2 points in the pouring rain and the bus broke downm on your way back.
The guy who bought his letter will never have that happen, because he was not there. The quarterback will remember you as having been a part of something that was important to him in his own life. Whether you even played in the game he remembers is irrelevant, you were there and you were his teammate.
Things like that last forever. The other guy? He has a piece of fabric in a scrapbook, but NONE of the memories and experiences that go with it.
In that sense alone, YOUR letter is worth more than his will ever be. If you were to both lose that letter, you'll still have the memories. The other guy will have nothing.
It's not YOUR experience that is being cheapened by the ability to buy rewards. It's the experience of those buying them that is. -
Quote:No, the athletically gifted guy still worked for it.I hate to tell you this, but some guy was born with athletic talent and was 6' 6" in high school. He made the team with no real effort on his part thanks to his genetics. He got the letter and it meant nothing to him. High school football was a given, he was disappointed that he did not get into pro football.
It meant something to you because you worked hard for it. The fact that others did not have to work hard for it didn't change what it meant to you. Maybe you just ignored that fact, or maybe you didn't realize that others did not have to work for it.
He had to show up for practice and games just like the rest of the team.
The fact that it came more naturally to him isn't particularly relevant. Regardless of the athetic talent involved, that letter was earned for being there and participating.
You couldn't just plunk down $5 at the school store and have the same letter.
That was his point. What the letter meant to the athletically gifted guy isn't particularly relevant either, since Geko was referring to its importance to him.
I somewhat agree with his stance.
Where I differ is that I don't care if someone else purchased a reward that I earned. *I* know I earned it, and that's all I really care about.
To use the same athletics analogy: Sure, maybe that schmuck over there bought his letter to put on his jacket, what difference does it really make though?
The schmuck isn't in any of the team pictures. There's no record of him having played in any of those games. There are no statistics permanently etched into that school's history that were accomplished by him. And most importantly, he did not have the experience of being on that team and playing in those games.
It isn't the letter itself that has meaning, it's the memories associated with the earning of that letter that are what Geko really treasures, whether he realizes it himself of not.
The guy who bought his? He doesn't have those memories. And that is the most important distinction between the two. -
Quote:No, it can still be used by your level 21 troller, it will just be as a level 11 IO.Just so I am reading this right, does it mean that any of the 11 IO's I got by completing the event on my lvl 50 alts can at present not be used by my lvl 21 Grav troller?
"Propel" I am looking at you for the KB IO!
They still work like any other IO in that you can be above the level and it will still work, the only part that is bugged is the part that makes it match your current level. -
Quote:I agree.Because it's unfair that Brutes get to have Tanker HP caps, resist caps, etc. Yet, Tanks don't get to have Brute damage cap.
That's why I've been advocating Brutes getting those caps lowered.
ATs have one set of caps for things that are not their specialty. This is across ALL ATs.
Scrappers have a 75% resistance cap. That is the same resistance cap that is shared by everything other than Tankers, Brutes, and the Epic ATs.
Tankers have the same damage cap as everything that is not a Scrapper, Stalker, Blaster, Corruptor, or Brute.
Scrappers, Stalkers, and Brutes have the same base values for all survivability affecting things other than hit points. It is not unreasonable to assume that if Defenders, Corruptors, Blasters, Controllers, Dominators, and Masterminds had access to Scrapper, Stalker, and Brute secondaries their base values would be the same.
Tankers have higher base values for all those things. It is significantly easier for a Tanker to reach a target number (like 45%) than it is for any of the other ATs. A Shield or SR tanker can reach the soft-cap with little or no IO slotting necessary. Scrappers, Stalkers, and Brutes cannot say the same.
I don't believe Tankers deserve Brute damage caps any more than I believe Brutes deserve Tanker resistance caps.
Brutes are the outlier that does not fit the template in ALL CATEGORIES. They have higher base and max HP than anything but a Tanker, higher resistance caps than anything but a Tanker, and a higher damage cap than anything. And all of their base values are AT LEAST as good as a Scrapper.
If you look at the numbers for base HP, max HP, damage caps, and resistance caps on Paragon Wiki, it becomes very clear that Brutes do not fit in the same templates as every other AT in the game. They are overperforming in every single category, with no real weaknesses to balance it. If they were not so overpowered, every other AT would balance out. The only reason an imbalance even exists is because Brutes aren't playing by the same rules as every other AT regarding their balance point. -
Quote:Mostly this. The reason why me and claw had the Fire and ice def is because you rarely see them in most of the baddies you fight. Most of the attacks you see are either s/l and then en/neg. A few of your res is over slotted for res. not to mention your recharge is going to have it where your attacking slower then others. But if you like waiting a bit on some of your attacks, and on your healing power to come up later then go ahead.
I didn't worry much about recharge, mostly because if I die because my heal did not come back a few seconds sooner I have bigger problems than my recharge being to low.
I actually consider E/N defense more important than S/L on a Dark Armor. It's the set's lowest resistance by a large margin, so it sucks if you don't have enough defense to it. If you don't understand my point here, go fight some Mu without good energy defense and you soon will. -
Quote:1) Pretty sure it's an Attuned set, meaning it is whatever level you are. The screenie was probably taken by a level 50 character. My 2 questions for this...
1: Is this only a level 50 set? The screenie shown states a character must be at least level 47 to slot it. However, is that just because the one being looked at was already a level 50 instead of a lower level piece, or are they all level 50?
2: Are these only going to drop during the event's mission, or can they drop anywhere during the event?
2) They are one of the rewards at the end of the event. As far as I'm aware, you can only earn one every 20 hours with a given character. But you can email them to your other characters. When you complete the event, you are given a reward table, and one of the 6 enhancements is a guaranteed reward. (which one it is will be random) -
Quote:There's a really easy way to tell if you can or not.You don't need to be VIP to use inventions. You need to:
a) Be VIP, or
b) buy a license from the market for 160pp per month, or
c) own 27 reward tokens.
If you have recipes drop while you're playing, you can use IOs.
They don't even drop unless you have the ability to use them. -
Question for you:
If you could take a tactical nuke to the face and walk away without a scratch.....how cautious would you be when confronting someone like Darrin Wade?
He had no reason to believe there was a chance in hell Wade could do anything to hurt him. If anything, his own overconfidence in his invincibility is what got him killed. -
Quote:The guy who played Dale was also the prosecutor that sent Tim Robbins to prison in the Shawshank Redemption.I just realized that Andrea, Carol, and quite possibly Dale, from The Walking Dead were in The Mist with the Punisher.
Look up the producer and director's movie list. Actors he has worked with are all over The Walking Dead. -
-
I'm extremely surprised that there wasn't a Hank Pym cameo in the Avengers.
-
Quote:As far as the story itself goes, not really.
I've read the article before, and the fact the author can say:
The film and the novel are surprisingly similar
Tells me everything I need to know about how far he's willing to reach to draw a conclusion. I'm surprised its not signed Reed Richards.
The social commentary fueling the story IS surprisingly similar, though. -
Quote:90/85/75 is where it should be.Ah I got the scrapper cap wrong
I think they 'should' be 90/80/75 but 90/85/75 is the best compromise.
I'd prefer 90/85/80, but I doubt that will happen (80 for scrappers and stalkers)
90/80/75 would be a little unfair when you consider that a perma Light Form Peacebringer would suddenly be tougher than most brutes without even really trying that hard. They're already tougher than a Scrapper, and Perma Light Form isn't that hard to do.
Light Form can cap all damage resistance all by itself, and EAT resistance caps are 85%. -
Quote:Death Shroud is Dark Armor's taunt aura. If you do not have it or Taunt, your ability to hold agro is dependent entirely on Gauntlet. I would not want to be a blaster relying on Gauntlet to keep things off me.
I was looking at Death Shroud but concerned about endurance, also how effective it would be. What would you suggest I drop to add Death Shroud?
With Staff Fighting, endurance should not be a problem at all. Simply live in Form of the Soul until you have your end issues straightened out. And presonally, I'd drop Serpent's Reach. After 40 levels of a DA/Staff Tanker, I found I was never using it, so I dropped it from my build to add Cloak of Fear.
Quote:As for EotS, I chose to focus on only using SS because I liked its effects better, and thought it was better to take one rather than both, especially since I am tight on power slots for this build.
My reasoning is that Staff Fighting's single target damage is mediocre, but its AoE is excellent. My build isn't even complete yet and I have a full attack chain of nothing but AoE attacks.
I'm not even sure what Eye of the Storm's effects are in the various forms, because that's not what I use it for. I use it for AoE damage output.
To be perfectly blunt: If you skip Death Shroud AND EotS, your damage output will be pretty pathetic. Staff doesn't have the kind of ST damage output to get away with skipping AoEs.
Here's the build I'm currently working toward:

Quote:To clarify: One of the issues they ran into was people were having things like purple enhancements outright deleted.Given how attempting to do something as seemingly innocuous as adding three additional enhancement slots at various points in the level progression caused all sorts of major issues
They tried to add more slots at an earlier level, and it borked all kinds of stuff, so they scrapped the idea (for now at least)
Being able to bakn slots would have at LEAST as much potential for disaster. -
Quote:Darkest Night is debatable, but probably not game-breaking.Blasters: Shadow Mastery
35 - Darkest Night - Toggle: Ranged AoE Foe -Damage, -To-Hit
35 - Fearsome Stare - Ranged (Cone) Foe Fear, -To-Hit
41 - Dark Embrace -Toggle: Self +Res(Smash, Lethal, Negative, Toxic)
41 - Dark Regeneration - PBAoE, Minor DMG(Negative), Self Heal
44 - Obsidian Shield - Self +Res (Psionic, Disorient, Hold, Sleep, Fear)
Fearsome Stare, Dark Embrace and this version of Obsidian Shield probably aren't either.
However, the devs would have to take leave of their senses to give Blasters a self heal as potent as Dark Regeneration. Siphon Life maybe. Dark Regeneration? Not a chance.
Not that they won't give Blasters a self heal, they just aren't going to give them one that is that good. If it were converted into a version of Drain Psyche, perhaps. But not as Dark Regen currently exists. -
I liked the new starter missions, but they get old.
I enjoy the Incarnate Trials, and I enjoy DA.
About the only thing I DON'T like is how the devs handled the death of Statesman.
I mean, really? He dies and you just act like he never existed in the game at all? Not cool. He's the most iconic character the game has ever had, and was the marketing face of the game since launch.....and he's being treated like a chump that outlived his usefulness. -
Quote:That would explain it then.I think he's referring to Chimera in Belladonna's arc, where he gets a Tub Chi type level shift mid-way through the fight.
I haven't run that arc yet, so I didn't know he was in it.
And as far as the Night Ward stuff goes, the first time I fought the Drudges, they wiped the floor with me. After I knew what to expect from them it was smooth sailing. I ran it on a Dark Armor tank though, so I was pretty strong against the damage they were dealing.
I LIKE hard stuff in this game. I've been playing long enough that I have all the enemy groups down pat. It's nice to have to learn the quirks of a new group once in a while.
Hint: If you can mez or otherwise incapacitate the Watchers before they summon their pet, the fight is a LOT easier. -
For an Ill/FF I would put that piece in Phantasm.
You can control when you use Force Bolt. Phantasm is an idiot about when he uses Energy Torrent. -
Errant gave you a good answer.
He didn't mention (though it goes without saying) that the unlock levels he listed hold true for ALL powersets.
For example: The 4th power in your Primary set unlocks at level 6. Which primary it is doesn't matter, that's when you get whichever power it is.
