Quote:Yes, revamping the way the entire combat system works in a 6+ year old game is clearly the answer. And I already responded to that: If they want the game to change, CHANGE the GAME. Not just change the encounter design and ignore the AT and power design that was specifically set up to work with the tank-n-spank dynamic they want to move away from.
Newer games that are more "action oriented" like these encounters try to be, they also give melee characters charge/lunge powers. They don't stick them with one crappy, long animating, low DPS attack that can only be used on the ground. They don't have defensive sets that are only effective with enemies clustered tightly around you.
No. They wont do that. They just want to do half-baked attempts at making things more dynamic without putting the work in.
They would have to redo every single powerset in the game from the ground up in order to do that. Not only is that a HUGE amount of work that would take forever, but the end result would suck in comparison to other games that will have been released by the time they are done with it.
They would also probably have to reconfigure the game engine itself in order to do it. From what I understand the reason we have rooting in the animations is because the game engine they are using doesn't work any other way. I'm not a programmer, but I can't imagine that rebuilding an MMO from the ground up to be completely different is going to be a small undertaking.
Overhauling the entire game the way you want them to just would not be worth the time and effort they would have to spend on it. If they are going to revamp things like that, they would be better served doing those things with an eventual sequel that they may make someday.
They are trying to add some dynamics to the combat in level capped content without going to all the trouble of basically redesigning the whole freaking game. It's not half-baked, it's just the limitation of what they can do with a 6+ year old game engine.
Unless you think they should stop all work on new content and put their entire staff to work rebuilding the entire game. But that would result in a LOT of their playerbase getting disgusted and leaving long before they finish it, because they hadn't gotten anything new in several years.
Well, the fact that I wasn't here the first year might explain that.Quote:CoX has been crap for the past 6 years, eh? Dude! Why didn't you say something the FIRST YEAR?
Another reason would be that it is still a good game, but applying the exact same tactics to every encounter there is gets old after a while.
It's basically: "Oh, an AV! Okay, everyone buff up. Tank, get in there and piss it off. Okay, everyone....GET HIM!"
That's fine, but when everything you do can be accomplished by the exact same means, it kind of loses it's appeal after a while.
Only recently have they even tried to change that up, and some people are complaining because they dared to make them change their tactics. Do you LIKE standing in one spot and beating on an AV until it drops, and then doing the exact same thing for every AV in the game?
With this being the "end game" content that has been highly requested for years now, I for one would have been very disappointed if it was exactly the same stuff we've already been doing for years. And from what I've noticed on the forums, I'm not alone in that.
In my opinion, some new content that is more than "Kill a bunch of fluff enemies until you get to the big bad, then gather in a circle around him and hit him until he falls, wash, rinse, repeat" is a GOOD thing.
If you want to play the game mindlessly doing the exact same thing for every single mission or TF you do, there is plenty of content available for you to do. Saying that NO ONE should get any new wrinkles in the stuff they do because YOU don't want it is just pure selfishness.
I read the underlying message from both of your posts as "I don't care if other people like this content, I don't like it, so they should get rid of it."
How would you feel if I said that you should have part of the game you enjoy taken away because *I* don't like it?
If you don't like what they are doing with the new content, you don't have to play it. But not liking it gives you no right to say that no one else should have it either. -

I don't think ANY melee character can solo a GM. AT least I've never heard of it being accomplished.
It's been done by Defenders, Corruptors, Masterminds, Blasters, and Controllers, but I have never heard of a Scrapper, Brute, Tank, or Stalker pulling it off. Their regen is just too high to kill them by pure DPS.
All of the ATs that have done it have access to a power with -regen in their primary or secondary. I don't think Envenomed Dagger has enough charges to last you through an entire GM fight, which will take upwards of a half hour if the dagger is the only source of -regen you have.
A Widow might be able to pull it off, since they have -regen in 2 of their primary powers, but I've never heard of it being attempted.
Also worth noting: All the characters that can solo GMs make mincemeat of AVs, they tend to kill them MUCH faster than melee characters that can do the same. Again, it's the presence of -regen they have access to, while a melee AT is forced to do it by pure DPS. -
Midnight Grasp without a doubt.
The only real use Touch of Fear has for a tank is as a place to mule Siphon Insight for the 3.75% S/L defense it gives (assuming you're trying to save money by not slotting Kinetic COmbat)
If you plan on mostly soloing, you can't afford to lose the damage Midnight Grasp gives you. -
That would be INSANELY overpowered.
The only toggle tier 9 is Granite, and it has significant drawbacks to using it: You can't jump, you can't fly, you move like molasses in January so you are forced into Teleport if you want any kind of mobility while running it, your recharge is debuffed, forcing you to slot recharge bonuses just to get back to what your recharge was while not running it, and it debuffs the damage you deal.
Unstoppable has none of those drawbacks and it caps all of your resistances, as well as increasing your end recovery and mez protection. The crash is the cost you pay for the level of survivability it grants you. If they ever DO make it a toggle power, expect it to become just as harsh as Granite as far as other aspects of your character are concerned. -
Quote:You CAN'T switch the order of those two powers. If you did it would break every single SS character in the game. The people who actually DID take Hand Clap would find themselves with a power that isn't available at the level they are at. It would essentially require there to be 2 completely separate versions of Super Strength.Second, let's switch around Hurl and Hand Clap. Getting Hurl earlier will let the set feel strong sooner, making it more fun to play. Further, it will add the ranged attack earlier, making it easier to fight flying foes. Hand Clap at the higher level could recieve a little buff by adding a bit of damage, if desired. Just swapping them around shouldn't affect the balance of the set at all, so I see no reason not to do this.
Hand Clap is often skipped because it scatters foes when you want them crowded around you. Thus, it should get a little buff to make it more valuable. Moving it to L35 and adding a little damage would do this, I think.
As I say, I don't see any downside here. Maybe I'm missing something. What do you think?
For an example of this exact thing in action, look at Electric Armor's Energize. Tankers and Scrappers got it earlier than Brutes and Stalkers.....because when they ported it there were no tankers or scrappers in existence with the set, but there WERE brutes and stalkers that had it. They couldn't move it in the pre-existing characters because it would have broken things badly.
Another example is Brute SR. It gets Evasion at level 20, as opposed to scrappers getting it at 35. It makes more sense to get it earlier than 35, but they couldn't move the power because of all the characters it would break. But, when they ported it to brutes they COULD move it, because there weren't any SR brutes that would be hurt by it.
So, anything else that is done, the powers will have to remain exactly where they currently are. -
I have a dark melee character for every AT it's available for. I have a couple /Regens, one is my main and the other is a Fire/Regen at 45.
I now have a Dark Armor scrapper and a tank.
I don't really like repeating powersets on the same AT if I can help it at all. The only reason I have 2 /Regens is that the concept demanded it for the second one (his blood is flammable on contact with air, the regeneration is artificial so he doesn't bleed to death in a fight) -
Everyone try this:
Go to "User CP"
On the left side of the screen, find where it says "Edit Ignore List"
Once you've found that, got to the part where it says "Add user to ignore list" and type in "Residentx10" (it even autocompletes it for you, like it already knows
)
And suddenly, you won't have to listen to his nonsense anymore. I see his posts as being the written equivalent of jumping up and down yelling "Look at me! Look at me!", now I don't have to see it anymore, and you can do the same
Like any other attention seeker, once he stops getting our attention he'll go away and find other people to annoy. -
Quote:Oh, noes!Because that's exactly what this is about. Munchkins want to show off with content others struggle with but they can boast about being "easy".
It's not enough the game have difficulty settings letting people run a TF against level 54s or be debuffed in an arc to make the enemies inordinately difficult if they chose to.
No, they demand everyone face level 54s and have enemies who are inordinately difficult on the base settings.
It's not about "challenge", it never was about challenge. It's about one group of players who want to feel superior to everyone else and want the game to cater to them. It's about the devs not respecting the notoriety settings and making a game that was always casual friendly and easy, harder instead of telling people to turn up the difficulty settings if they want to be challenged. Lastly, it's about someone without strong ideas of their own copying the mechanics/schticks of raids and encounters in other MMOs and making players dance to the GM's sadistic little jig while watching them faceplant for using the skills and playstyle you spent 5 years forcing on them via power and AT design.
We can't have the game evolving now, can we? How much longer will the game stay viable or relevant if everything they release is just a variation of the same old crap they've been releasing for 6 years?
The game HAS to change or it gets stagnant, and stagnant games don't last very long in this day and age when there are so many other choices. Speaking of other choices, they exist, so if you dislike the direction the game is headed in that much, there's nothing stopping you from choosing one of them.
I'm sure this post isn't going to keep you from whining about it, but hey, there IS something to be said for games that are stagnant and never change in the slightest. I mean, look how popular Pong still is.
If you want the game to be easy....you have plenty of things you can do that are easy, no one is FORCING you to run these TFs.
This goes for both you and EvilRyu: Yes, you are both correct in that these TFs and the Incarnate system aren't like anything that has come before them. Now, most people feel that is a GOOD thing, but you two seem to think the game should stay exactly the same forever. I'm sensing a couple impending ragequits when the devs refuse to see things your way and make everything just like everything else. -
Quote:You are STILL judging them by their appearance. It's not the same thing at all - like Statesman and Reichsman are the same, but the way they dress shows that one is a Hero and the other is a Villain, even though their bodies are the same - they've both chosen the way they dress, but they have no choice about their body.
Whether their appearance is by their choice or not is completely irrelevant, as it is not THEIR actions that are the problem.
YOUR actions are the problem, specifically the action of JUDGING THEM BECAUSE OF HOW THEY LOOK.
Whether you judge someone by their clothes, or the size of their chest you are doing the same exact thing: Judging them by something about their appearance.
Of course this is going to fall on deaf ears though, because you are so convinced of your own moral superiority that you seem to think it gives you the right to judge people based solely on what they look like. It doesn't, and only pure arrogance makes anyone think it does. And yes, that makes you JUST as bad as anything you accused Master-Blade of doing. Pure hypocrisy.
Have a nice day, you've proven time and time again that you will twist anything to mean whatever you want it to mean just to avoid being proven wrong. News flash: You HAVE been proven wrong several times in this thread, and everyone sees it except you. -
To put it in a metaphor:
I am a guitarist, and a halfway decent one. I could tell you how easy it is to write a song for a 4 piece band consisting of 2 guitars, bass and drums.
That does NOT mean I could tell you how easy it is to write a piece of music for a 120 piece symphony orchestra. At least not with any credibility.
Yes, I have experience writing music, but I don't have experience writing music on such a huge scale. And I know better than to claim that I can.
Game programming is the same way. I'm sure you could explain how to program a smaller game, and probably rather well at that, but that doesn't give you enough experience to explain how to program an MMO. -
Quote:No hate, just.....confusion.
Finally, and I know I'll get some hate for doing this, but I took Slash out of my build so I could fit in Revive.
No idea why you would remove one of your best attacks in favor of a power you can't use until you die.
There's GOT to be something else you can remove to fit in Revive if you feel like you need it that badly. Slash is an integral part of every Claws attack chain I have ever seen.
And yes, if you try to solo an AV, you WILL notice the fact that it's missing, because you won't get the resistance debuff, and your DPS will suffer for it. -
Broadsword quite simply....rocks.
Few sets in the game have the same feel of raw power Broadsword gives you when you attack something. The CRUNCH!, CRUNCH!, KA-CHUNK! sounds you get when you attack make the set for me.
Numerically, it is actually middle of the pack or so in DPS, and among the higher sets when it comes to burst damage (big numbers in one hit). Not great in the AoE department, but not as weak at AoE as Dark Melee.
Thematically it is the best fit for Shield (in my opinion at least), and is the only sword set you can even use with Shield. So, if your character is a sword and board wielder, it's really your only option.
The defense of Parry is nice, in that you don't have to chase defense bonuses for melee so much while you're leveling, leaving you free to chase ranged and AoE bonuses. -
Stop necroposting every single thread you can find about slow updaters.
Not only is it rude, because it shoves questions people may still be waiting for answers on off the first page, where they are less likely to ever get an answer, but it is also against the forum rules.
Just STOP already. If you have a problem with it, start a new thread instead of dredging up threads from months ago. I counted SIX that you ressurected, all about the exact same thing. -
Yeah, I rarely pay attention to post dates of threads on the first page of Player Questions. I almost never see threads more than a week or so old still on the first page, so my immediate assumption was that it was a new thread, as I didn't recall seeing them before.

No offense GreatRock, but the only people I listen to when it comes to the coding of this game are the ones actually working with that code. (in other words, the devs)
You've programmed a few games, which is awesome for your age, but that doesn't mean you know how THIS game is programmed. You probably know more about video game programming than I do, I freely admit that. But I doubt rather a lot that you have experience with something as complex as this game has to be by it's very nature, since the only way you would have experience with something this complex is if you worked for a video game company, and I've never heard of one that will hire a 15 year old.
(Happy Birthday BTW) -

Nice catch. I didn't even notice, since there is another thread about the same thing on the first page here. I figured a couple different people had the same problem at the same time, which wouldn't be the first time that's happened.
Edit: The other thread is a necropost as well. -
Quote:You're unbelievable. You can choose what types of clothes you wear - you can't choose what size your chest is.
I'll explain it as simply as I can.
If you assume that someone is a criminal based on the clothes they are wearing, you are judging them based on appearance, without knowing anything else about them.
If you assume that a woman has loose morals based on the size of her chest, you are judging her based on her appearance, without knowing anything else about her.
They are the exact same thing: Judging someone based on their appearance.
So, since they are the same thing, your stance is: It is okay to judge someone by their appearance, but it isn't okay to judge someone by their appearance.
I agree that you shouldn't assume a woman has loose morals because of her chest size. But it is just as wrong to assume someone is good or bad because of the clothing they are wearing. That's the point you seem to have completely missed. -
Quote:He probably ragequit already, dude.Reafy, how long did it take to download and what was the average kbps?
Going by the last line in his post, he seems to have the attitude of "How DARE this updater be slow!". Instant gratification and all.
If he actually checks back into this thread I'll be really surprised. -
The forums are all the same now, European players and North American players use the same forums, so that wouldn't really affect anything.

Quote:Just wanted to touch on this part here.Customization, alternate Animations: I thought these weren't supposed to ever happen

The devs said power customization and alternate animations couldn't be done because they didn't have the manpower to do it, not because it wasn't possible. Their reason for not doing it before is because with the staff they had at the time, it would have taken up a LOT of time, and we'd probably be an issue or two behind where we are now.
Since then, they have hired more people, and the things that couldn't be done because they lacked the manpower were suddenly possible. We got power customization shortly afterward. I believe they actually hired a few animators specifically to work on it.
That said, there are a few things that won't happen because the devs won't do them. Like full AT and powerset respecs, for example.
Also, the Fitness pool is inherent now. There was much rejoicing (and a few inexplicable complaints). If you want to take advantage of it being an inherent power, you will have to respec (characters that already had it kept it as a pool choice, presumably to avoid breaking things) -
Quote:He was responding to the OP stating that they had 7 shards already. If you have 150 Vanguard Merits you can buy the Gr'ai Matter shard from a Vanguard crafting table.
Then you need 1 more common shard to get to 8 so you can either do the common Cardiac or Common Spiritual boosts. (4 to Ancient Nictus and 4 to Hero 1 or 4 to Essence of the Incarnate)
Or you can run TFs to get the uncommon shards.
But you will need at least one more common shard to actually craft a common boost.
I presume the suggestion to run TFs is because it takes 8 shards to make an uncommon component, so I suppose those could be termed "uncommon shards". -
Quote:Well, how many scientists do you know of that routinely hit up the treadmill? I can't imagine that Reed had much time to go to the gym with all the experiments and research he was doing. Then they realized, you know for people who work out a lot, they seem out of shape?
They were drawn as regular people because, before they got their powers, they WERE regular people.
I'd be all for a boob slider that goes lower on the scale. Could be a game lore reasoning behind why it doesn't. I'd imagine to get a license to be a hero in this city you'd have to be 18 (or possibly have some way of proving that you're an immortal who looks like a 10 year old, but are actually centuries old)
I had a female character for a while who was on the completely unrealistic side of things. She was an avatar of the sun itself, and chose her physical form based on a poster in the window of a Victoria's Secret store. She proportioned herself like that because she thought that's what ALL humans looked like. She still doesn't understand the difference in gender, or why the ones with fur on their faces keep staring at her. (I only say "her" because the character is a female model, the character doesn't actually have a gender at all) -
Quote:You have a different definition of what "physical appearance" means than, well, most of the rest of the world.Deciding someone is a villain by the way they dress is not the same thing as deciding someone's evil because of their physical apperance at all.
Physical appearance is defined as: What you see when you look at someone.
That includes eye color, hair color, skin tone, height, apparent weight, the size of a woman's breasts, and the clothes you are wearing.
Unless you walk around naked all the time, the clothes you have on are part of what people see when they look at you, therefore they are part of your physical appearance.
Saying that it is okay to make assumptions about people based on the clothes they wear, but it is not okay to make assumptions about them based on, in this instance, the size of a woman's breasts is being hypocritical, because in both cases you are making those assumptions based on their physical appearance.
If one is okay, they both have to be because they are the same thing. Conversely, if one is NOT okay, then neither is, for the same reason. You can't say one is okay and the other isn't.
