Quote:Pretty much this. The playerbase has been wanted some form of end game content essentially since the game launched. We got bits here and there (Lady Grey TF, Statesman TF, Lord Recluse SF, etc.) but it's hardly enough.
Now that we actually have and end game, it should surprise nobody that people are actually playing it, especially since it's the new shiny thing in the game.
I'm honestly kind of baffled that people are reacting with surprise that something only a few months old is a popular thing to do.
When i12 came out, how easy was it to find a TF that wasn't an ITF? When they revamped the Crash Site into the War Zone I was seeing 3 or 4 instances of RWZ even on the low population servers. How many people crammed into Founders Falls when they released Dr. Kahn?
It's the brand new thing, and people by nature are going to do the brand new thing to death until it isn't the brand new thing anymore, at which point it will become just another thing to do. -
	Definitely possible.
During the day is when you see a lot of the unemployed 22 year old D-bags playing on their parents computer. A lot of them tend to be abrasive toward other players in any game they play. Not saying that every player during the day fits this description, but there are probably a significant number who do. Maybe they're just cranky because they woke up at 1 PM and realized they were out of Mountain Dew.
It lightens up in the evening when the older crowd is off work, as the older players are (generally) more courteous. -
Quote:That's not quite what he meant. So forcing a player (for whatever reason besides just the OP's) to alter their way of playing to be able to get things done, in a manner they might not find enjoyable is perfectly acceptable. Yet it's not ok for them to try to alter others into maybe doing things in a manner they find fun?
What I read was:
If 7 people on a team want to do something one way, and the 8th person wants to do it differently, it is not reasonable for the 8th person to expect the other 7 to do it their way.
In that situation, the best solution is for the 8th person to form a team of likeminded people so there isn't one person unhappy with how the team is being run. -
	Not especially.
It happens when something occurs with the game that there are two distinct sides of.
Currently, it's the whole Incarnate debate that is making it seem that way. Before that it was AE, before that it was the PvP changes, before that it was Inventions and the market. Before that it was ED and the GDN, before that I suspect it was the level cap (it went from 40 at release to 50 with Issue 1)
Any time there is something new to talk about that galvanizes people into "for" and "against" categories you're going to see more sniping and general snarkiness for a while. The arguing about the things I mentioned has died down, I expect this will pass as well, though it might take a little longer to do so.
If you look in the AT and Server forums, where people aren't discussing the new big thing as heatedly, it's pretty much business as usual. -
Quote:So, it has the potential to be set up in such a way that if you want to pursue Incarnate content you will no longer be allowed to play anything else in the game?
This system has the potential to be the first point in this game's development where, if a person wants to pursue the new content, it'll have to be at the exclusion of everything else the game has to offer.
Because that is the only way end game content and the rest of the game will ever be mutually exclusive.
I really don't think that scenario is at all likely to happen.
Yes, the casual players will lag behind the hardcore players in how fast they advance their Incarnates. But casual players have ALWAYS lagged behind the hardcore players in accomplishing anything. That hasn't changed any, and the introduction of Incarnates isn't a significant shift in the dynamic. -
	Off base?
There were a lot of people telling other people to quit complaining about the game not giving them what they want.
Now a lot of those same people are the ones doing the complaining, and they are getting bent out of shape because the people they were telling to suck it up for 6 years are saying the same thing to them now.
Basically, those people are being treated the same way they were treating other people for the last 6 years. It all boils down to people thinking they can say something to someone, but when the positions are reversed you better not DARE say it to them.
So, yeah, that's where the "How's it feel?" came from. People getting outraged over being told the same thing they were saying for years. -
Something occurred to me that amused me greatly.
Remember not so long ago when every so often someone who prefers to focus on a few select characters would post bemoaning the fact that there was nothing further for them to do once they hit level 50?
I do.
I also remember that, invariably, a number of people would post in their thread essentially telling them to stop complaining and make more characters like everyone else.
The funny part? A lot of the people that were telling them to stop complaining are now the ones complaining that Incarnate content is too time consuming to run all their dozens of characters through.
Basically what happened is the people who were telling the people who wanted end game to suck it up and roll more alts have found that suddenly there is something in the game that doesn't cater to their preferred playstyle. In fact, it caters more to the people who like to play a few characters instead of dozens.
So, to the people this concerns:
For 6 1/2 years now, the game catered to YOUR preferred playstyle, and you got to tell people to stop complaining. The game was providing what you wanted and all was good.
Now, the game is catering to someone ELSE'S playstyle, and you're being told in turn to stop complaining because the game is just now providing what THEY'VE wanted for 6 1/2 years.
How's it feel?
A number of you are finally getting a taste of what you've been dishing out to others for the entire life of the game.
Isn't karma fun? -

Quote:And that is your choice. You have every right to make that choice, I will never say you don't.In the meantime, the few hours I have each week must be diverted to WTFs.
But you are not being FORCED to make that choice. That was the point I was trying to make. If you decide to spend 100% of your playtime chasing after a particular thing, that is your decision to make. But to try and say that someone else decided that for you is ridiculous. Which is very much how your first post read. -
Quote:You say that like getting the Notice of the Well is the only thing you're allowed to do.Now I find myself playing my main 2 50s on my 2 main accounts. I have no time to screw around with starting a new alt because I barely have time to get that Once per Week NotW on my 2 mains.
There is nothing stopping you from playing alts but yourself.
I rarely have time for a task force at all these days, so I do other stuff. I do other stuff largely because I'm not obsessed with getting all the new stuff right this minute.
Playing alts is still a perfectly viable way to play the game. -
Quote:Anyone who is that much of an elitist tool isn't worth teaming with in the first place. One reason that people may feel compelled to obtain the most effective <whatever> may be that they know what happens to characters without it: Sometimes they aren't invited to teams, or even get booted off instead.
Yeah, I've heard the rah-rah before, "Well, *I* always invite whoever's around and even take special pity on the smelly losers." Thanks, the condescension feels so good. That's why these days if my character can't solo on x8 AND offer support to a team, then it's not worth my time to improve. Bye-bye fun concept builds!
From a practical game-design standpoint, I don't understand how the devs plan to develop new content with the competence spread of level-50 character builds increasing tremendously. Without going into specifics, we all know that even with SOs, some builds were hugely more effective than others. IOs exaggerated this difference between the most and least effective, and now Incarnate powers will do so again.
Will non-IOed, non-Incarnates be able to find a team at all soon? How many threads will there be to the effect that, "LOL, somebody actually expected to get an invite to the WTF, and he didn't even have a rare in his Justice slot?"
Then there's the question of what happens when somebody spends 9000 hours upgrading one character, and that power set then gets nerfed, or simply isn't needed for the Omega Task Force that all the cool kids are doing...
And no, you are not going to see a day where everyone who plays is like that, because the majority of the players here realize those people are idiots. -
Your biggest problem: You have 0% defense other than Parry. That means you are taking and trying to heal back 50% of the damage the game is throwing at you. And when you get your defense debuffed by machine gun fire, that goes up to 95% in a hurry.
Your complete lack of defense is probably the biggest contributor to your faceplanting problem. It is exceptionally difficult for a Regen to stay on it's feet when you are getting hit with everything being thrown at you. -
Quote:It's going to be per character, and probably will always stay that way for thematic/storyline reasons.Has there been any red names or Dev comments on whether or not incarnate ability unlocks will be account based or firmly limited to only toon based? (as in in the future, obviously it isnt currently)
Im sure someone has at least asked this once before...
The Well isn't going to give Awesome Guy more power because Uber Dude did something special. If Awesome Guy wants more power he's going to have to earn it himself. -
Quote:I don't think we were really meant to fully Incarnate all of our characters. However the shard grind has killed about 15 of my 50s...
I only have 6 50s to begin with, so it isn't a big deal for me in any case, but I think we are supposed to be picking 1-3 of our favorites to go the Incarnate path with.
It's not really a grind at all if you're only running a couple characters through it. If you try to do all of it with dozens of characters you're going to get burned out on it pretty quick I think.
From what I've seen, the people doing the most complaining about how much of a grind it is tend to be the people that are trying to do all the Incarnate stuff with 10 or more different characters. -
I can't look at it because I'm at work at the moment, but what is your E/N defense sitting at?
Since those are likely your lowest resistances, it is probably the biggest hole in your defenses. There are a significant number of pure Energy attacks in the game that neither S/L or Melee defense will protect your from. (Malta Sappers are tagged Energy/Ranged as well) -
Quote:It does. The Achilles Heel proc and the Fury of Gladiator proc stack with each other.
I never bothered to check Bruising, but I have no reason to believe it doesn't stack with Achilles and Fury.
I had an Invuln/DB tank that had Bruising on Nimble Slash and an Achille's proc in Ablating Strike. I confirmed in-game that they do indeed stack with each other.
Fury and Achille's will stack with each other as well. The only thing that won't stack is 2 Achille's or 2 Furys. -
Quote:So far Apex has been the only one not viable for gaining XP on, since you have to be level 50 to run it.Sister Psyche was the first WTF for people still interested in xp (and it was great for that). Huntsman's not so good for anyone. Will Time's Arrow be the first WTF that's good for everyone? Am I correct that all toons can participate in it?
STF/LRSF, Cuda/Kahn and LGTF are all 45+, so anyone from level 45 to level 49 would still gain XP while running it.
ITF requires you to both be level 35 or higher and have run the story arc that gets you into Cimerora. -
Quote:I don't feel any pressure at all.The heat is on to keep playing high level toons instead of rolling new ones or playing lowbies. Some folks only want to run strike/taskforces or only certain s/tfs...
Are you feeling pressured to play incarnate content or just tf content? If yes, are you more than okay with or does it frustrate the hell out of you?
I do what I want to do, when I want to do it, and I couldn't really care less what everyone else is doing. I have actually been playing my lowbies MORE since the Incarnate stuff was released.
I've never been one to do what everyone else is doing just so I can fit in with the "cool kids". Incarnate content hasn't changed that. -
Quote:It's been the focal point for......2 issues. Issue 18 and 19 have focused on Praetoria, and issue 20 will be doing the same.. Praetoria is not my idea of super hero comic stuff - it is nice background and there are some great aspects but this has been the focal point for too long.
Translated into real time, it has been the focus for......6 months. The focus shifted to Praetoria in August. From August to March is hardly what I would consider "too long".
The devs have focused on Praetoria for 3 issues out of 20, and 6 months out of nearly 7 years.
Would you prefer they devote one issue to any given focal point and never revisit it again? If they did that, Praetoria would forever be just 1-20 content and nothing else would ever be done with it.
I kind of like the fact that they are sticking with something long enough to tell the whole story for a change, instead of telling the first half of the story and leaving us to guess what happens from there.
Ancient Rome, we defeat Romulus and history just stops there, with nothing noteworthy ever happening again? The 5th Column are back, and.....the story ends with them being back, hasn't been expanded on since. The Rikti invaded again....and got stuck in a perpetual state of invasion with nothing ever really being resolved.
All that happened because they didn't make any of those things the focal point for more than 1 issue. This time they are trying to actually finish telling the story, and you're complaining that they've been focusing on it for too long. "Too long" in this case being 6 months and 2 issues. -
Quote:If you can softcap without it, sure, go ahead and drop it.I need some number crunchers to help me on this one. For my tanks I usually get Tough and Weave, but when I pull up the numbers, it doesn't seem to add *that* much (between 5-7% if I remember). When I look at just using IOs in my attacks, I can get most of that back. So if I have the slots to put in the right IOs, is it a huge concern to get rid of Weave?
But.....using IOs to get that defense instead of Weave will prevent you from slotting IOs in those powers that will get you other things. If I can get 7.5% defense out of a power that I would want to take anyway on my tank I'd rather do that and leave myself room to focus IO slotting on other things.
Remember, when you slot defense with IOs you get a percentage to one or two defenses. Weave gives you defense to EVERYTHING, including Psionic.
To match the positional defense you get from Weave you would need: 2 Obliteration/Touch of Death sets, 2 Scirocco's Dervish sets, and 2 Mako's Bite sets. All of those sets require 5 or 6 to be slotted to get their defense bonus
That is a minimum of 34 IOs slotted to match the defense granted by ONE power. -
Quote:The entire game revolves around combat. In that sense, EVERYTHING is a cheap story device to drive the punching. There are no puzzles, there are no secret ID tasks, there really isn't much of anything to do aside from use your superpowers to defeat enemies and gain levels. In these contexts Praetoria is basically a cheap story device to drive the punchin'.
You know....there's nothing that says you HAVE to take the Lore pet on every character. If it doesn't fit that character's concept....don't use it.Quote:that's kind of what the Lore slot pets feel like they're doing - Trying to invade character concepts in which Praetoria doesn't really belong.
The clockwork pet is actually appropriate to my main, and there might be others that are appropriate to various characters, but I don't feel like I need to unlock that slot whether it fits or not. -

My requirements for a TF: 7 other players (or less, depending on the TF and my mood)
AT requirements: It absolutely HAS to be one of the 14 ATs the game allows.

My first character was an Energy/Energy blaster named Doppler. I discoverd pretty quickly that I hated Energy Blast (still do, though oddly enough I have a Mind/Energy dominator that I like)
I had a few short lived characters since then, but it wasn't until I rolled Claws and Effect that I really stuck with one. Claws/Regen scrapper. He's been my main ever since, was my first 50 and my first Incarnate (though my BS/DA scrapper has gotten farther in the Incarnate tree) -
Quote:Okay, you've established what is fun for YOU.If I play to have fun, that means investing in a character to make them the best that they can be. The better they are, the more fun I have.
What you didn't do was take into account that different people find different things fun.
Far too many people come to the forums and state with absolute certainty that because THEY don't find something fun, no one else does either and it should be changed.
No one is forcing anyone to do anything.
I happen to be running the Harvey Maylor arc myself on my BS/DA scrapper right now, because I enjoy that particular arc. I couldn't give a crap less that something else will net me more rewards, because that something else isn't what I want to do.
Very seldom will I run something JUST because it gives me a reward I want. I don't really like the LGTF, so you know what I did? I skipped that week and did other stuff instead of running something I don't like just to get the reward from it.
So maybe my characters fell behind everyone else's as far as getting Incarnate stuff.
Who cares? It's not a race.
I don't know about you guys, but I still enjoy just playing the game. I'll occasionally hang out in Atlas Park Shockwaving Hellions all over the place, just because I can.
If the game isn't fun, it is feeling like you have to do stuff so you can keep up with everyone else that is making it not fun. Do what you want to do and let the rewards come as they will, and you'll find the game is suddenly fun again.
