Figured I'd go completely against my usual grain and just kill stuff and embrace my own almost guaranteed fiery death.
Fixed that for you. With little or no defense in the build, you are going to find yourself eating pavement with alarming regularity. I get using RotP to it's full potential, but with no defense you're goig to find yourself dying while it's still recharging quite a bit.
  2. I don't remember the formula offhand, but you can calculate how much recharge Hasten will give you on average between uptime and downtime.

For example: It was proven that you only need 55% global recharge and ED capped Dull Pain and Hasten to have perma dull pain. That conclusion was reached by taking into account how much recharge Hasten provides when you average out uptime versus downtime.

Like I said, I don't know the exact formula to figure it out, but it is definitely possible to have perma Domination without having perma hasten.

Oppressive Gloom uses endurance, just not very much. It's end cost is extremely low, but it's balanced by the fact that it damages you.

Other powers that use no end include: Conductive Aura in Electric Control, and the self rez in any set that has one (can't use end if you don't have any, and your end bar empties when you die)

Out of the several hundred powers in the game, there are fewer than 10 that don't cost endurance to use.
  4. The main reason WoW is as huge as it is now is because it had a playerbase before the game even existed.

There were millions of people that played the original Warcraft RTS games, so when an MMO was released that took place in the same world it was a no brainer that a lot of those people would check it out.

For CoH, a game that had no prior incarnation and no ties to any existing franchises, to reach and maintain 125k subsriptions is pretty impressive in it's own right. It's earning around 1.8 million dollars every month and 21 million a year. That's nothing to sneeze at, even in the realm of MMOs.

  6. Okay, say they upgrade the game engine and graphics to "ZOMG, THIS LOOKS AWESOME!!!!" levels.

What happens to the people who are playing on older systems that have to turn the graphics settings down from where they are right now?

Do they get told "Okay, thanks for playing, but if you want to KEEP playing you'll have to go out and spend $800 on a new computer that can handle our newly awesome graphics."

Not a good plan, you'd see people jumping ship so fast it's not funny.

A major upgrade to the minimum graphics requirements would alienate a lot of players who don't have (and can't afford to buy) top of the line gaming rigs. And a new game engine WOULD be an upgrade to the minimum requirements.

    No.

Regen is a perfectly viable PvE set. It's more click heavy than other sets, but it can be built to perform just as well as any other set.

There are videos floating around of things like: Regens soloing multiple AVs at once, a Regen doing the RWZ Challenge* using nothing but the tier 1 attack, and several other examples of insane achievements.

*If you're not sure what the RWZ Challenge is, it goes like this:

Go to the Rikti War Zone and find a group of level 54 Rikti that contains a minimum of 3 bosses. Engage said group and defeat all of them without dying. You are not allowed to break agro or use any inspirations or temp powers. Iggy Kamakaze's Claws/Regen pulled it off while using no attacks other than Swipe (which is an insane accomplishment, it took him 3 times as long to kill them and he survived the whole time with no inspiration use)

It is just as casual friendly as anything else in the game. It has tiers that range from "casual" to "hardcore".

Lets look at another thing that works much the same way: Enhancements

    SOs are completely casual.
Generic IOs and some frankenslotting are less casual.
Set IO builds are not really casual.
Fully optimized purpled out builds are hardcore.

Incarnate slotting works the same way, the further you delve into it, the less casual it becomes. As follows:

    Common Alpha slot is casual.
Uncommon Alpha slot is less casual.
Rare Alpha slot is not really casual.
Very Rare Alpha slot is hardcore.

Getting all the Incarnate slots to common or uncommon levels is a fairly casual activity, and the effort expended to get there reflects it. When you start getting into the Rare and Very Rare levels, you are leaving the realm of casual play behind and the effort expended reflects that as well.

Saying that the Incarnate system needs to be more casual friendly isn't really any different than saying we should be able to get a fully optimized purpled out build just as easily as buying SOs. It just doesn't work like that, if you want more out of the system you have to put more into it.

    Truth.

The reason I'm guessing is because on the lower population servers they earn a reputation for being a bad teammate and a large percentage of the population has them one starred or on ignore, so they can't find anyone willing to team with them.

On a high population server the odds of everyone knowing how much of a jerk they are gets slimmer, and they can find some poor saps to treat like crap a little easier.

    That's pretty funny.

The Kill Skuls badge was inspired by a player too. Just goes to show you the devs DO pay attention to things like this, and add badges that reference player created stuff.

Also, the "Last line of defense" badge in Talos is on top of the hill everyone gathers on for invasions. If people didn't do that there would have been no reason to put a badge there at all.

Any fight involving a lot of goons with machine guns.

Which covers probably 60% of the enemy groups in the game.

Malta, Crey, Council, 5th Column, Family, and Arachnos have machine gun users at some point in the various levels of the game. Warriors and Tsoo have some mob types that will debuff defense.

There are a LOT of machine guns in the game, and every one of them will debuff your defense.

The flight speed is lower so flyers don't have an unfair advantage over people with other travel powers.

Flight is the only travel power that will let you go anywhere, won't drain your end bar, and doesn't leave you susceptible to attack from enemies. If it were also as fast as other options, it would clearly be the best choice by a wide margin.

It's set up so the travel powers all have advantages and disadvantages to using them, with no one power being clearly superior to the others. I think flight speed is probably about as fast right now as it's ever likely to get.

  14. What it comes down to, that some of the posters here have alluded to, is that the devs have done everything they can be expected to do to make the Incarnate system inclusive to everyone.

Every player in the game was given exactly the same opportunity to acquire the items in question as every other player. No one is being excluded by any criteria or factor that the devs have any control over. No one is excluded by AT, powerset, veteran status, SG membership, global channel membership, or badge count. The only things required to participate are an active account and a level 50 character, that's it.

Everyone has the same opportunity as everyone else. Whether you can take advantage of that opportunity is not something the devs need to take into consideration, because your playstyle preference and time availability are A) none of their business, and B) not their problem.

If you cannot participate because you lack the time, or are unwilling to team, then those are problems that are YOURS to solve. You cannot possibly expect the devs to solve a problem that they had nothing to do with the creation of.

It sucks that it happened, but in my almost 6 years of playing I have found circumstances like you describe to be the exception rather than the norm.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you were playing on Freedom?

Not that there is anything wrong with Freedom in and of itself, just that I've found the odds of running into a jerk on Freedom are a little higher.

To say "the griefing is just awful" implies that this happens to you on a regular basis, and I can assure you that you are having a run of bad luck as far as finding jerkish players is concerned. The vast majority of the players I have ever encountered in the game have been friendly and helpful, and players like you describe here are pretty rare here as opposed to some other MMOs.

I'm also taking into account the larger number of people I have seen playing at a given time.

This time last year PinnBadges (Pinnacle global channel) averaged between 80 and 100 people online at any given time. Currently it averages between 120 and 140, with spikes up over 200 during primetime.

Interestingly enough, a lot of the people contributing to the larger numbers are people who used to play, but I hadn't seen on it a long time.

It doesn't seem so much like we got a lot of NEW players, just a lot of the old players returning to check out the new stuff.

    Actually, it's a partial truth.

For years ONE dev said no to inherent fitness: Castle.

And his words were to the effect of: It will never happen as long as I'm working here. I have suspected for a while that being overruled on inherent Fitness is one of the things that prompted his departure. He also said he would get rid of endurance altogether before making Fitness inherent.

I don't recall any other dev saying anything about inherent fitness one way or the other, but I know Castle was against it.

Power customization was a case of them not having the manpower to get it done.

Full respecs are a case of them saying "No, we're not doing this"

HUGE difference between "we can't do it right now" and "We have no intention of EVER doing it"

Every time full respecs are brought up, someone trots out power customization as an example of something we were told no about that we later got. And every time the fact that we were told no for two completely different reasons is glossed over in an attempt to prove a point.

Being told no on power customization and being told no on full respecs are NOT the same thing, regardless of what you want people to believe.

It's there, but since it was so recently added, the in-game information hasn't been updated yet. It's a 20% resistance debuff proc that has a 100% chance to fire on a given target, and it won't stack with itself.

I wouldn't say I'm a avid user. I have a Facebook, but it's mostly a cheap easy way to keep in touch with my friends and family who are now all 700 miles away from where I currently live.

I don't get Twitter either though. I see no point in updating people with my exact actions at this exact moment.

There's a very good chance the person tasked with adding the NPC costumes to Pocket D has nothing to do with bug fixes. The dev team is split into several distinct departments, and I would wager a guess that the art department is not the department responsible for fixing bugs in the game.
  22. Both of the builds I can see (no Mid's on my work comp) have HPT slotted with resistance sets instead of slotted for heal.

Increasing your max HP is going to do more for your survivability than a few percent defense, especially on teh build that has Aegis slotted there. Pure Fire and Cold damage is among the rarest types in the game, most of the time they are paired with smashing or lethal, especially in the case of Cold.

If you can't spare the slots to slot for healing AND resistance, you'll get better results out of slotting for healing.

(Note: I can't see the builds that are just data chunks, so I'm only referring to the ones I CAN see)

If you are going for melee defense instead of S/L through Divine Avalanche, Kinetic Combats are not a good choice. Mako sets would get you there with less slots used.
Mako's Bite is ranged defense, you're thinking of Touch of Death and Obliteration. Though in my opinion you shouldn't be using either set on a Willpower.

I don't always vendor it, but a lot of the time I don't feel like running to WW to sell salvage if I'm in the middle of a task force or something.

Hell, I've been known to delete salvage on occasion if I needed the space. I'll delete recipes a lot of the time too if I'm running level 50 missions and want to keep space free for a potential purple drop.

I'm just not so pressed about cash flow that I feel the need to wring every last inf I can out of the game. And it's not like salvage is such a limited resource that I'm hurting anything by deleting it. There will always be more of it.
