Quote:Odd how that works.Oh, and 6c) Have your open and frank discussions constantly trolled and spammed with the same inane garbage over and over that amounts to "haha, I get a cookie and you don't, now STFU." And for once I'm not just referring to one person.
The people who wanted a real end game had been dealing with exactly that for over 6 years.
It sucks to be told what you want doesn't matter, doesn't it?
Well, I guess now you know how the people who wanted an end game felt for all that time. -
I like 3 Thunderstrike and 3 Devastation on typed defense builds. Especially on an Invuln or Willpower tank, since the extra regen and HP from Devastation will come in handy.
I'm not sure, but I don't think Dull Pain by itself will HP cap a tank any more after they raised the HP cap. -
Quote:By definition, an alien is a being that does not originate here. This precisely.
If the Going Rogue content was all about something else (like an alien invasion rather than a Praetorian invasion which makes no sense)
In regards to where they are from, Praetorians ARE aliens. SO, a Praetorian invasion is exactly an alien invasion, they just happen to look just like us. Who says all aliens have to be weird looking? -
Really, you have about 4 or 5 options in regards to dealing with the Incarnate content.
1) Dive into it and play what is offered as you see fit.
2) Completely ignore it and keep doing the things you've been enjoying so far.
3) Play a little bit of it and continue doing other stuff as well.
4) Take a break or quit altogether because you don't like it.
5) Come to the forums and complain bitterly to anyone who will listen that the devs are wasting their time and ruining the game, because they decided to focus on something you don't personally like.
Judging by the content of recent threads on the subject, it's pretty clear what the most popular reaction has been so far.... -
Quote:Yep, that would be the well in question.Oh, you mean that Well that's giving out all our new powers?
Were I writing it, it would go something along the lines of the well is tempting us with this power, hoping enough of us will succumb to getting ultimate power right now, leaving the Well with an army of superpowered mindless slaves at it's command.
Except sometimes a bad comes along that IS so big you have to fight it right now. If the bad is big enough that finishing what you were involved in first would lead to the destruction or subjugation of multiple realities, it's probably a good idea to do something about it now, while you still can. If a snowball gets big enough you aren't going to do anything but give it a speed bump to roll over.Quote:It would depend on how they did it. If they kept a sense of "to be continued" with each storyline, and continued every few issues, it would avoid the "this came out of nowhere" aspect, avoid burnout with a particular enemy, and avoid the railroading aspect of "this is a bad so big you have to drop everything and go fight it RIGHT NOW." -
Recharge and Damage bonuses.
I'm presuming those numbers are for a perma-Granite build. If that's teh case, you will be wanting more recharge and damage because both of those things take a significant hit in Granite Armor. -
Quote:Accuracy.Does anyone have suggestions on what to slot the 2 free slots? I'm thinking some kind of damage or recharge. Or both.
Kinetic Combat only has one piece that offers accuracy enhancement. I usually go with the Acc/Dam/Rech pieces from two different sets, unless there is another IO that would work in it (like the Achille's Heel proc for example). -
Quote:I don't think it's a case of him controlling it, more that he doesn't care about (or is willing to accept, at least temporarily) the well controlling *him*, whereas States and Recluse have both gone out of their way to try and reduce the amount of influence the well has over them.
Or possibly our enemy is actually the Well itself, and it has completely taken control of Cole. -
Quote:Bolded the key words in that sentence. If I don't take part in the Incarnate arc I'm excluding myself from the majority of content that's slated to come in the future.
You're excluding YOURSELF. You even said it yourself. That means if you are unhappy about that exclusion, you have no one to blame for it but yourself. -
Quote:So, you're just paying for the end game and getting all the stuff that existed before it for free now?Yes, and so is paying a monthly subscription while the devs lavish all their time and attention on an endgame you won't/can't play.
That's the problem with the "if you don't like it, just don't play it" argument - you're suggesting that people either turn a blind eye to the amount of dev time that the endgame is going to consume over the next half a year or more while continuing to pay for it, or quit.
You're paying for access to the game. That's all. You're not paying for end game content. You're not paying for badges. You're not paying for PvP, Task Forces, IOs or any other one thing the game has to offer. You're paying for the whole package. Even the parts you are not interested in.
You're not suddenly losing something because the end game exists, everything you spent your time doing before is still exactly where it's always been.
At any given point in the game's history, the devs spent time and energy on something a subset of the playerbase was not interested in. When they were working on PvP, a large percentage of the population didn't like it because they didn't PvP. When they spent time developing VEATs, there were people that didn't like it because they had no intention of playing them. Any number of things the devs spent their time on pissed someone off because it was something they weren't interested in.
It has been happening over and over again, and people constantly forget that when the devs spent time on something they liked, it was time spent on something someone else didn't like. When they please you, they piss someone else off. When they piss you off, they please someone else. Pleasing everyone at once is flat out impossible.
The truth of the matter is: People are selfish. If time is spent on something they don't like or aren't interested in, they consider that to be time that was wasted. Even though the time spent pleased someone else, they don't care, because it wasn't for THEM.
I'm no exception to that. The difference between me and a lot of the people complaining is that I realize the devs will get to what I want eventually, and that I'm not the only person they have to try and please. -
Quote:So, if something introduced 7 years into the game's life is the point of getting to 50, what was the point before?I disagree. This is compulsory. This is the point of getting to 50.
It's not compulsory, it is just as optional as everything else. The only thing that makes it required is your feeling that you HAVE to do it. You can keep doing whatever you were doing before this and the game will just have to deal with it, because it can't force you to do anything. YOU are the one sitting behind the keyboard deciding what you're doing, not the devs. -
Quote:I'd like an endgame with an actual ending. One last big mission/TF (solo or team) with a permanent retirement from play for that character and a send-off cutscene dependant on victory or defeat.
You want your end-game to culminate with never being able to play your favorite character ever again?
Okay, if that's what you want. Personally, I'd be pissed if I went through all that only to find out I can never play my character again. That kind of end game works for single player games, not so much for an MMO.
So far, I'm fairly happy with what we're being given. I honestly hadn't put any serious thought into it.
So, I guess my answer is: I'd like my end game to exist. -
Quote:This. If you put it in BU, you at least control when it'll be going off. You know for sure it'll be firing just before you use your strongest attack, your AoEs, or nuke.
So it may be less often, but at least it would be firing at the optimal time for you to take advantage of it.
In the entire time I had that proc slotted in a toggle I can count on one hand the number of times it went off when I was actually using one of my heavy hitters.
Every other time it went off I was either moving between spawns, standing around, going to a mission, or right as I was killing the last mob in a spawn with something like Swipe.
In Build Up, I know that when it fires, it will be right before the attack I WANT double build up on. I'd much rather get double build up on Whirling Sword or Head Splitter than Parry. -
Quote:I bounce back and forth between my BS/DA and my Claws/Regen being my main. The Claws/Regen is my namesake, but the BS/DA is the more powerful character. But it's my favorite toon right now, and I consider it my main these days.
I've chosen the BS/DA to be the character I run through all the Incarnate stuff first though, and it's currently the only one that has a level shift. -
While you're at it, read this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=189427
Broadsword and Katana/Dark Armor are discussed extensively in it. Most of the good points and bad points about the combination were covered in it.
The builds in it aren't up to date, but they are still valid starting points. -
Quote:No, you don't want Red Fortune in Divine Avalanche. Red Fortune boosts the defense of the power, that is true. But....Divine Avalanche needs to hit in order to give you that defense, and Red Fortune provides exactly 0% accuracy enhancement. This is really helpful, thanks. I was starting to put Red Fortune in Divine Avalanche, I am guessing that is not the best choice? Switch to a damage set?
Depending on your build goals you can go with: 4 Kinetic Combat, a random Acc/Dam/Rech enhancement and a LotG +Recharge, or 5 Crushing Impact and a LotG +Recharge, or 6 Mako's Bite.
There are other ways you can slot it, but those 3 seem to be the most popular. -
Quote:Yes, it can.Lightning field cannot take a chance for stun proc, and I would never go with just 1 endurance reduction on a build.
There is a Chance for stun proc in an End Mod set, which all versions of Lightning Field will accept.
You can find the details of the set here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Energy_Manipulator
Also, in an armor set that includes an end discount power AND Power Sink, you could slot no end reduction at all and still be just fine. -
Quote:This. So your thread title should really be, "Smoke is working fine, but I chose to bork it."

If you hadn't put the proc in the power, they wouldn't agro on you.
More to the point: WHY would you put that proc in Smoke?!
What good does a Chance for -Recharge proc do when you apply it to a mob that wouldn't be attacking you at all if the proc weren't there? By putting that proc in that power, all you have done is remove the best feature of the power in return for a useless proc. -
Once you hit 50, if you have the cash, swap out the Eradication proc for the Armageddon proc. A 33% chance to deal an extra 107 points of Fire damage is better than a 20% chance to deal an extra 72 Energy damage by just about any criteria you care to measure it by.

Fortunately, most of the game is set up so I can have fun and still get something for my time, so I don't have to make that choice very often.
I still consider it to be about the journey and having fun while I'm playing. I don't care how lucrative the reward for something is, I play the game to have FUN. If I'm not having fun I see no point in continuing to do it. -
Quote:The problem is, the people who find PvP fun in this game number at significantly less than 5% of the population. I heard a guess that it was around 2%, which I'm inclined to believe.
PvP: I understand that this was an afterthought, and that it is not built into the game - in fact, that is great! It allows people to enjoy the game from start to end without having to deal with PvP. That does not mean that it should not be a focus at all.
PvP is really fun - and competitive players would really get involved in it if, well, a.) it didn't suck and b.) if they got something out of it except a 3 bil enh every several months (unless they're just farming PvP, which is what I've seen a lot of people resort to now)
When 98% of your playerbase doesn't do an activity, and actviely dislikes that activity, there is nothing you are going to do to change their minds. At this point PvP in this game isn't really worth the resources they'd have to spend on it, because no matter how much time you spend improving something, the people who don't like it are going to continue not liking it.
A lot of the hardcore PvPers left in i13 when tey drastically changed PvP. ALL of them predicted that the game was going to die because PvP was dead. They were all wrong, which indicates that the existence of PvP is irrelevant to the success of this particular game.
The devs saw that they lost very little when they altered PvP, and stand to gain just as little by fixing it, so it is WAY down on their list of projects to work on. -
Yeah, I gotta admit....the *foof* *foof* *foof* of Blazing Aura is kind of annoying. I'd much prefer it if it looked more like Hot Feet or something.

Quote:Unless you have a character that can slot it NOW, I'd sell it and use the funds for some of the IOs your tank will be wanting. Such as Kinetic Combat.Running the ITF last night, and my level 35 inv/ss tanker (!) received Hecatomb, Chance for Negative Damage.
Are there any super strength powers that would really benefit from slotting this? Or is the Inv/SS build a sub-optimal place for this proc? (Y'know, port it to a scrapper, brute, or just straight up sell it).
Since the character just dinged 36, he's still a ways off from slotting this, so feloow forumites, what are your thoughts in the meantime? -
A large number of players pay their subscriptions 6 month or a year at a time. Those dollar figures would have been on the books 6 months to a year ago.
Just because it says they have 125k subscriptions doesn't mean they are getting exactly that amount of money every month. -
Quote:No, you need 80% global PLUS 3 slotted Hasten to achieve perma-Domination.You only need 80% total recharge from global buffs, hasten or any other powers copmbined to get permadom?
I asked this question on a diff forum thread and I was told that its 125%
Thanks for the number, Lucky666. I knew what I was talking about, I just didn't have any of the numbers handy.
The way it works is like this:
80% global recharge is self explanatory. Now, you need 125% recharge to have permadom. 80% + 70% (from Hasten) = 150%. Now, that isn't enough to make Hasten perma, but it makes Hasten recharge fast enough that you still end up over the 125% threshold you need to have perma Domination.
Basically, since Hasten isn't perma, you lose some of the recharge when it's down, which in this case will put you at around 125% total.
