For a stalker, Defense > Resistance.
Why?
With large amounts of defense you can reliably pull off Placate + AS in the middle of combat. With resistance and no defense, enemies you have NOT placated will still be able to hit you and interrupt your AS. Softcapped defense enables you to AS something in teh middle of a big fight without having to worry about it getting interrupted on you. -
Quote:If you're going with Energy mastery for a Brute, you have access to Superior Conditioning, which will ALSO accept the Performance Shifter proc.ok, thanks for the replies, into stamina it goes, with a couple end mods.
and, it's NOT a unique you say? wonderful, i get another chance to screw it up.......
kidding, i'll pick up the physical perfection later, and will pop one in there as well.
thanks folks
Damned Willpower brutes can slot four of the freaking things. -
Quote:It made sense back when they were hands down the most powerful attacks in the game, but that hasn't been the case for quite some time in all reality.I would agree with this. The crashes on powers don't seem balanced anymore (and actually haven't for a while). I can understand some kind of crash, but a complete crash makes little sense.
Recharge time on a nuke is 360 seconds.
Recharge on Judgement is 90 seconds.
The base damage on a nuke ranges from 300 to 500 enhanceable damage.
Judgement (from what I hear) does around 480, which puts it at the higher end of that spectrum. If you equip Musculature it will deal between 790 and 1080 damage (depending on the tier)
A nuke can hit up to 16 targets.
Judgement (at tier 4) can hit up to 40 targets.
A nuke will crash your end bar.
Judgement will NOT crash your end bar.
Now, looking at it like that, given a choice between them, which one are you going to pick? And let's not forget that Judgement is available to ANY AT, not just those who have a blast set as a primary or secondary.
And, in a situation where you have both powers and you can use one or the other, which are you more likely to use? I'd use the one that will hit more targets, do more damage (maybe), and still leave me with enough endurance to keep any important toggles running.
After Judgement becomes commonplace, it will be rare to see a level 50 Incarnate that even still HAS their nuke, let alone see one that still USES it. That may not be the case if they didn't fully crash your endurance, but if left as-is it almost certainly will be. -
Dr. Quaterfield will most likely never be a WST, because A) It is way too long (all the WSTs thus far have been less than 2 hours), and B) there is no villainside equivelant to it.
It wouldn't be fair to have a WST that only heroes could run, and it wouldn't be fair to give villains a 1 1/2 hour WST while heroes get a 6+ hour WST. -
Okay, I was against this in the past, but I have since changed my mind.
My suggestion is to remove the full crash from the tier 9 nukes in blast sets.
Why?
Now that Judgement exists, nukes are quickly becoming all downside with very little upside.
Judgement:
1)Recharges faster than any crashing nuke.
2)Deals more damage than most of them.
3)Not positive on this, but I don't believe it kills your end bar either.
Why would anyone take a power that kills your end bar every time you use it, and takes 5 minutes to recharge, when there is an alternative that doesn't crash your end and recharges in a minute and a half?
If blast set tier 9s retain the end crash, you are going to start seeing a LOT of blasters, corruptors, and defenders that either never took them, or respecced out of them at 50.
I'd like to keep the tier 9s relevant, and not another power that falls by the wayside since we now have something better in every measurable way.
I was against this before because the tier 9 nukes had to have a balancing point to being so powerful, but since anyone of any AT that is level 50 can get a power that is BETTER than the nukes, I see no reason why they have to stay the same anymore.
Edit: I'd even be okay with it if the crash being removed was something that happens at level 50.
But I'd prefer if it just happened across the board, because that way non-Incarnate characters would get a benefit from it as well. -
Ummm......right click on one of the buffs in the window and choose "Hide Autopowers".
It gets rid of any autopowers in the buff window that are affecting any member of the team.
Your suggestion is already in the game, it's just not set to be on by default, you have to do it yourself. -
Quote:From what I hear, the Master badge for that trial involves using ZERO grenades, of either type. The first issue is one that I am hoping will be proven wrong over time. It seems to me like they set up the Marauder encounter so that players *have* to do it the specific way the devs designed it or you fail. I know people compared it to ITFs and the nictus healing Rommie, but there are several widely different strategies that I've seen used to counter that. So far, aciding the portals seems to be the only way to remotely reasonably defeat Praetor white. Again, I am hoping this will be proven wrong *without* requiring that people have 3 incarnate level shifts and mega abilities to win.
Based on that alone, I think it's safe to say it is intended to be possible to do more than one way. -
Quote:You haven't seen Dechs' tank in action, have you? Then use Incarnate stuff to trick yourself out so you can kill them faster?
I run my Scrapper on +4x8 too, but I am still at a decent risk of dying. Until I can jump into a mob and go make a sandwich, I'm not going to complain.
In most mob types he CAN jump in and go make a sandwich. And come back to find that his Death Shroud has killed the whole spawn while he is untouched.
My wife's tank has a similar build, and hers is just as tough.
Though he is mistaken on one count: He could NOT have done that at the introduction of IO sets. When IOs were first released Kinetic Combat only gave Lethal defense, and Eradication didn't exist yet. Since there wasn't a set that he could make extensive use of to get lots of E/N defense, anything that threw lots of energy damage would have slaughtered him at that difficulty (energy is Dark Armor's lowest resistance by a rather wide margin) -
Quote:I actually really wasn't trying to be mean there. So then it's official... I'm in the gripe club lol. Yes it's true... 11.5 months of total COH addiction and I'm not going anywhere. I understand what you're saying... people don't adapt happily to change, it's human nature. At the same time I totally love how the devs keep adding new content and can't wait to see what the future brings.
See... I think a large part of the problem is that I'm trying to team with people on freedom in atlas where toons were born and raised in a single day. There's so many. When they do that they don't learn how to play their toon well. Who knows what percentage of the leagues I've been on that have been comprised of 'insta-toons'? and now we're expecting this population to adapt (well and happily) to not a new tf... but leagues and end game trials that shift the level of our toons and that shift is dependant on only these 2 trials.
Whatever it is in the game that makes so many people want to bypass the content created for them needs to be fixed. I realize this happens in every game but it's so prevalent that it's effecting miss 11.5 month account holder (and I'd imagine many others) ... especially when things like this come out.
Imagine being on a league and every other toon on that league is familiar with their skills, how to play... they've spent time on their toon, hanced it up, spent their hard earned money... we wouldn't be having the same problems we're having now, at least not to this magnitude.
I was just pointing out that you would be unaware of something the people who have been around longer know. Which is: Every new task force added to the game, at least since I've been playing, was immediately met with complaints that it was too hard for at least the first several weeks to a month of it's addition.
The ITF was deemed too hard because no one had figured out how to beat Romulus yet. Now they are being run in 25 minutes.
The STF was deemed too hard because no one had figured out you have to single pull the AVs and the proper order in taking down Recluse's towers. Now it's not unusual to see it done in 45 minutes, and successful Master runs are fairly common.
Kahn was deemed too hard because Reichsman has a crap ton of HP and brings in other AVs to help him. I have seen Kahn completed in 15-20 minutes.
Point being, ALL of those things, and more, were declared to be too difficult and cheaty because the players had not adapted to them yet. And now that the players have adapted to them, they are routine and almost trivially easy for some teams.
And I'm expecting the Incarnate Trials to have much the same thing happen. -
Quote:I certainly hope not.Do the gods have any plans for addressing old content being too easy now?
It would be incredibly unfair to force a difficulty increase on the old level 45+ TFs just because Incarnates can have all their shiny new powers in it.
If they did that, those level 45-49 characters that are trying to run those things to...you know....level, are going to find that suddenly what was merely challenging is now impossible.
Basically, if you increase the difficulty because of Incarnates, you will completely screw over anyone who is NOT an Incarnate. -
On point 1: The different colors are optional things the player in question chooses.
Yellow means "I have experience with the game and I am willing to help new players"
Purple means: "I'm a new player and could use some help from experienced players"
You can also choose neither and your name will still be blue or green like it's always been.
On 7: I'm not thrilled with the new interface either. But I've noticed that when in trials you can set it so you only see your team and not the whole league (by clicking on "Team" on your chat window) -
-
Quote:Yes, you're right. As some have said, where is the solo-friendly option? Y'know, the two trials seem cool and all, but some of us don't want to do those things ALL the time.
They MUST give every possible preferred playstyle something new to do with every single conceivable issue or they fail as a dev team.
This issue was focused around large group content. Find me an issue that catered to every possible subset of players all at once. I can't think of a single one that didn't leave someone out in the cold. -
Quote:Okay, since your account is only that old I presume it means you've only been playing that long, correct?I'm just going to be straight here. My account is only almost a year old and in that time I've seen big changes. My opinion is that some things in the game are almost impossible to get unless you've been playing for years or are really, really lucky... or learn to cheat, find an exploit, or buy $$$ from one of the generically named level 1 vendors who spam broadcast chat with their wares. An example of this is any decent enhancement worth having costs anywhere from half a billion to 2 billion inf especially if you hope to have any kind of chance of being a competitive player who can literally stand their own ground. Another example would be purple drops. and PVP... what's the point?
People play games because they enjoy REWARDS...
When i20 was in trial I chimed in with everyone else who disagreed with the difficulty of the BAF, how the powers make melee toons useless, and how a PUG clamors to make sense of it first, then tries to beat it, only to die repeatedly.
I did beta over and over... remaining objective in that I was not joining the brown nosers who were telling the devs how GREAT it was ( I saw you, you know who you all are!!!) ... and I wasn't going to let the influence of the unknown make it an unpleasant experience either. After i20 went live I did it again... FOR TWO DAYS!!! I went into the BAF over and over and over again... a different assortment of a team each time. Every single time WE FAILED! All of my toons except 2 are 50s. All of them are completely developed, totally IO'd, uniquely themed even with their own story lines. In other words I put a lot into each and every one of them. They all died.... over and over.
Afterwords I went into the courtyard in Atlas and briefly expressed how I'd like to finish the BAF just once.... and some righteous brown nosing **** said 'we just finished 3 times'! Well, I don't know what exclusive club that person belongs to but great for him, great for his whole team/league! How am I any different than him? That's what I want to know. Seriously!
People don't play games to feel like failures or to die or to never reach content because they can't even complete the mish... and what of these reward 'strands' now among others? I suppose doing the BAF and lambada are the only way to get them? Good thing I figured out yesterday I can still be rewarded for being a failure despite my best efforts as my salvage is full of strands and astral merits! I only have to sell myself out to do it! So if I want these items I just go fail! WOOT!
As someone who has worked for yahoo, geocities and NBC I would respectfully suggest to the devs to definately keep adding new content because it's ALL ABOUT THE CONTENT... but when doing so please try to focus on the community at large and not an elite few...
Thank you.
If that is truly the case you would be completely unaware that your complaints here have been said of pretty much every new TF that has been released in the last 5 years of the game. Especially for the first few weeks of it's release.
In pretty much every case, a couple months went by and people changed their tune to "Oh, I guess it isn't so bad now that more people know what they're doing and can advise others."
I'm expecting this to go pretty much the same way.
The difference between them? The old "New TFs" were failed repeatedly, just as this is being failed repeatedly. Except when you failed THEM, you got SQUAT. With this, at least they don't make you feel like a failure was a complete waste of your time because you just spent 3 hours on something only to get nothing. -
Quote:And all TFs and Trials have followed this pattern....Till issue 20

You expect people to know these trials as well as all the previous TFs and trials after only 2 days?
People will learn the trials just as well as they learned everything we now consider to be easy, but it's going to take longer than 2 days for that to happen. -
Quote:And if you had interacted with any of those people beyond just being on the same map....you probably would have a better memory of who they were.I can? Cause the full BaF I was on, first I lagged to crap, then there were a bunch of flashy lights, then we fought Nightstar, then we started killing prisoners and crashed. Some people fired off Judgement nukes and Destiny buffs. I have no idea who did it. Somebody was using Storm powers. I have no idea who the stormy was. There was another Scrapper running around killing Vickys with me. I don't remember his name or powersets. There was a Brute at the prisoner door with me with the Soul Mastery immobilize. I don't remember his name or primary or secondary either.
On the other hand, I still remember some of who did what on the STFs I ran back when it was WST. -
Quote:I think the queue was intended to give mostly solo/casual players a way to get into the trials without having to plan things too far in advance. My point is, unless there's some way to better control both the size of a League and who gets chosen to lead it, I don't think the Queue is going to be of much use.
Example: Me.
My schedule is pretty insane these days, so I never know when I'll get a chance to play. If I manage to snag an hour on a weeknight it's nice to know I can stand a decent chance of getting in on a trial if that's what I feel like doing. And with the way it works, I can get in the queue and do stuff around the house that needs done while I'm waiting (as long as I stay in the vicinity of the computer to see when it starts at least). -
Quote:This. And all that happens in trials. Like the last BAF where Ms. Flaming's barrier saved our bacons from those AC9's, or Comrade SMERSH cracked that hilarious joke against Siege.
A lot of what you get out of these trials is what you put into it. If all you put into it is mashing buttons....well, that's all you're going to get out of it too.
I like teaming with people who don't treat the game like a job. Interact with each other, if the only person talking is the league leader then you ARE a faceless grunt.
If you talk, or crack a joke, or interact with your fellow players.....your fellow players will remember it and want to do things with you again. It's not about the game remembering you did something, it's about other players remembering you did. -
Quote:Pretty much this. Not to mention "Infinity Gauntlet" or any of the other Thanos Infinity books. Or "Secret Wars." Or any of the various summer team up events the Big Two try to cram down everyone's throats every year.
I was going to post something similar, but comics are FULL of stories of many, many heroes banding together to do something because some amazing and grand threat is just too big for eight heroes.
It's part of the lore this game is based on, and now it's part of the game.
Get over it. -
Quote:The game is still here.Would you like a match or a flamethrower for that army of strawmen you've got there?

Edit: Agreeing with Carni though, what is this if not farming/grinding? When did that stance change?
Therefore: The people who predicted that Issue X or Feature Y would be the death of the game in the past have been completely wrong. And that simple fact is not stopping anyone from crying doom now.
So far, it has just been "I hate this new thing". But that's how all the "This will kill the game" doomcrying started before too.
I suppose there is a slight possibility that they may be proven right this time, but the chance is pretty minute.
I give it about a week before the first "This is killing the game" thread appears, maybe (probably) less than that. -
Quote:Single attacks with multiple damage components will do it. (Such as the Rikti attack above, with Energy/Lethal.)
And it's nothing new at all.
My perma-Dull Pain regen scrapper has been one-shotted by Dr. Aeon in the STF, and he was sitting at scrapper HP cap at the time. 2,409 HP.....and I took over 3,000 points of damage. -
Quote:You should know this by now Geko.If you don't like it don't do it. It's not like the trials are the only content is Issue 20. The game that existed on Monday is still there. If you enjoyed that, then I don't understand what's changed to create this much ire.
Different = bad for a lot of people.
Whether the old stuff is still there or not is completely irrelevant to those who have decided that the Incarnate Trials are ruining the game.
It's like every other thing that has prompted DOOOOOM posts in the past, the new thing they don't like is killing the game and nothing will convince them otherwise. Not even the fact that 100% of the gamekilling doomposts of the past have been proven wrong. -
This kinda mystifies me when I see it.
Mostly because most people I've seen say something like this mean it along the lines of: I'm not super unless I can crush any opposition to me with no effort at all.
Personally, I find Batman a helluva lot more entertaining than Superman. Batman has challenges to overcome, Superman (unless it's some global threat) has essentially zero chance of being defeated by his opponent, and that's boring. -
Quote:And my opinion is that raging and declaring new content to be horribly broken and badly designed after less than 24 hours of it being live and still brand new to 90% of the game's players is ridiculous.Last time I checked, these forums allowed for anyone to voice their opinions. And my opinion is that the +4 Boss and Lt mobs contain too much cheat to make this fun, at present, especially when playing an MM (my main char).
ALL of the same things I am seeing said about the trials have been said about EVERY new task force that has been introduced to the game since I started playing.
And I thought people raging about how hard they were on the first day of their release was stupid then too.
