Quote:Yep, those would be the mechanics I was talking about. Especially the downing of multiple AVs at once. If you're going for the Gotta Keep Em Separated badge (required to master it) you have to beat both AVs within 10 seconds....on opposite sides of the map.You missed lots. Super attacks that warn you get the F*** outta the way, adds that if you don't take out right away gain a steady to-hit+damage bonus that no amount of defence will counter, downing multiple AVs at once or they res each other, turrets that can't be taken out but can be shut down temporaily. Need I go on?

Well, let's see what I can come up with if Free Form characters were possible.
Primary:
Charged Brawl
Storm Kick
Cremate
Build Up
Siphon Life
Confront
Fire Sword Circle
Soul Drain
Lightning Rod
Secondary
Deflection
Reconstruction
Healing Flames
Dull Pain
Integration
Quick Reflexes
Invincibility
Shield Charge
Strength of Will
No, that wouldn't be grossly overpowered at all. And that was taking each power at the level it is available in the set it originates in. Freeform power choosing would quickly lead to every character in the entire game being just as overpowered as my example here. It would be even worse if you are allowed to choose powers from any AT you like. -
Quote:Look at how I worded it.I disagree, as you're not slotting it in Mezmerise you're slotting it across the board.
I said: "If you have a Mind Control character and want to make use of the sleep....don't slot Reactive in it."
I was referring to slotting Reactive in the character, not the power, as I am very well aware that it applies to all your powers.
On the subject of Siren's Song: Siren's Song exists in a set that can already stack a significant amount of -resistance. I don't see much need for even more of it. -
Quote:Pretty simple solution suggests itself immediately:Or just Reactive if it's possible. Otherwise the DoT makes the power pretty useless.
If you have a Mind Control character and want to use Mezmerize for it's sleep effect.....don't slot Reactive in it
I really see no reason to exclude something from working in certain powers just because it isn't doing what you want, when the option is available to not use the thing that is not working how you want it to. -
Quote:But not everyone shares your outlook on things.I've always seen City of Heroes as a largely mediocre GAME that's good only because I can bypass most of its challenge anyway. What keeps me here are the amazing characters I create and the inspiring storylines I take them through even after all these years. Take that away, and all we have is a very old, fairly ugly static game that can't compete with the newer, shinier MMOs.
A significant number of people are enjoying the mechanics of the trials, simply because they are NOT the same old tank and spank/click the glowie/rescue the hostage/deliver a pizza to Positron content we've had for 7 years.
If the end game content, including the trials, was nothing more than another "unkillable tank holds agro while the rest of the team whittles it down" fight, there would probably be a lot of people sorely disappointed that the much touted "end game" was exactly the same as the REST of the game.
Different is good. And in a game this old, different is necessary in order to retain people's attention.
Also of note is the old saying that any publicity is good publicity. Think on this: This thread, and others like it are serving a purpose. Whether the people talking about it love the content or despise it.....they are still talking about it either way. -
Quote:YMMV.
For me the trials are horrid. I am only running them on my main, and just want to complete the content and move on. I crafted 4 rares I had collected since it began into one very rare last night. 400 million. I am very frustrated. At this point I do not even mind the cash, I would pay almost anything to be done with these two godsforsaken missions. Unfortunately, I still need 10 rares. (or 3 very rares, and it seems the odds of a tanky tank getting one of those is, zip, nada, nil)
I'm having a blast running them. But then again my main reason for playing the game for this long is because I enjoy just blowing $#&! up.
I'm not even really worried about how long it takes me to get the epic shinies, simply because I'm having fun playing them. I'll be a sad panda indeed when all my characters have got all their stuff, because then there will be less reason to do them (probably won't stop me though) -
Quote:I took Void as well for concept reasons. He's a Broadsword/Dark Armor scrapper, it's the only Judgement that made any sense at all for him. It's actually kinda cool looking for him, looks like his Death Shroud just exploded.I just unlocked my Judgement and I expected fun things. I took Void because it was thematic. It's a big bag, but maybe I should have taken another one.
It's only tier one, and well...It looks wierd, does not do a heck of a lot of damage (Well...more than my other options because I am a controller player) and it's PbAOE which means I'm vunlerable to attacks.
I think the only powers that make me thing things are out of whack are still Judgement and Lore Pets.
It doesn't do overwhelming damage at tier 2, but it does enough to make me smile when I use it.
I took Ion with my main, who is a Claws/Regen scrapper. It was the closest to a concept fitting power that was available. Of course, my main is a cyborg too, so I can explain damn near anything as simply being an upgrade to his systems. That one feels a little broken, and way more powerful than it should be. -
Quote:I've run them maybe 20-25 times across my entire account.Another question.
If I played the trials somewhat casually, only as much as I actually wanted to - call it twenty runs at an estimate, not per character but across my entire account - it's pretty obvious to me that I'd never get anywhere with the Incarnate Rewards. Am I likely to be left out of future Incarnate trials simply because my characters would no longer be tall enough to get on the ride? Is there likely to be a minimum strength level that I'm not going to be at because I don't want to farm?
So far I have Judgement, Interface, and Lore unlocked on my main, and Judgement unlocked on my "second main".
My main is sitting at tier 2 Judgement and Interface, and tier 1 Lore. The other is sitting at tier 2 Judgement.
I also have a 3rd character I've been playing them with, who has otherwise been collecting dust for the past year or so. The trials give me something fun to do with him again (Fire/Fire blasters are incredibly fun on these trials)
I'm far from playing the trials obsessively, and I've managed to make decent progress at my own pace. If you take your time with them and do other stuff too, it really isn't that bad. I haven't seen any elitism as far as "You have to have tier X of power Y if you want to play with us", but maybe the server I'm on just doesn't have much of that attitude (Pinnacle, for the record) -
Quote:Farmville is more hardcore than CoH is. At least based on the number of people who seemingly spend all their time playing it.Only if you stick one end of the scale over in the life/relationship ruining territory. Really the scale starts at casual, runs through "hardcore" and ends somewhere around "dear god what is that thing". On that scale, CoH is firmly in hardcore territory. There are people saying "I did this playing only 3 hours a day"; that's hardcore-ville.

Quote:Cost differences aside, it's still faster to make them with threads. Especially if you end up getting some of the components you need as drops.Maybe because it takes a lot more threads to build the same alpha slot than it does with shards? If I could convert 12 threads into shards and create a new tier 1 I'd do it in a heartbeat... spend 60 threads to build the appropriate commons - not so much.
For me right now, threads may be easier to get than shards but a factor of 5 seems a little steep of a cost. At least for now and especially since I only run a couple of trials at a time and still mostly do "normal" content. -
-
My main has the Clockwork because it ties in with his backstory (which is constantly evolving as new canon elements are introduced)
I have no idea what my BS/DA is getting. Probably WarWorks. -
-
-
My reward tables have been pretty random.
1 Very Rare, 2 or 3 Rare, about 5 Uncommon, and the rest Commons.
That was out of probably around 20 runs, and it is across all of my characters that I've run them with (currently only 3 of them have done either trial, I'm in no particular hurry to get everything) -
Quote:I've been converting them to threads immediately. Is there a reason to keep them at all?
Or should they be converted to shards immediatly?
I may kick myself for that later, but currently they serve to get my slots unlocked and slotted slightly faster, so I'm okay with it. -
Yes, all ATs can nuke. But unless you are just standing around doing nothing for 90 seconds between nuking, you still have a role to play on the team.
Same with the buffs. They are on a pretty long timer.....are you just leeching while that recharges, or are you using the powers your characters has always had in the meantime?
The only way any character is going to be made obsolte by Incarnate powers is if we get enough Incarnate powers to where we can run entire missions or TFs using nothing BUT Incarnate powers, and I don't see that happening.
Your character still has their role, just because someone else can do something similar once in a while doesn't make you obsolete. That's like saying a luggage rack on a sedan makes trucks, SUVs, and minivans obsolete because they can be used to haul things. -
Quote:In my experience....it HAS been highly casual friendly."The devs decided to create a highly casual friendly endgame system. "
Then the post lost all credibility.
I don't know how even the most ardent supporters can classify that system as "highly casual friendly".
Example:
I logged in for less than an hour last night, and managed to find and run a BAF in that time before I logged out. It doesn't take hours to organize, it is not long enough that you have to set aside any time (outside your normal playtime) to do, and if you don't want to do it, you don't have to.
Sounds pretty casual to me.
The only part of the system that ISN'T casual friendly is trying to get all your Incarnate slots up to tier 4 on every character. And it isn't expected that everyone is going to do that anymore than it is expected that every player is going to outfit every single one of their characters with every purple IO set they can slot. Unless you are one of those people that believes the point of the IO system IS to purple out every single character, in which case you'd probably say that isn't casual friendly either. -
Quote:They do.I thought all IO' in a set had to go into the same power to get the bonunses.

It is set up that way intentionally so you can only get the 4, 5, or 6 slot bonuses one time, and one time only. On most sets, the 4 slot bonus is 15% accuracy ,and the 5 slot bonus is 10% recharge, which are the highest amount you can get of either of those bonuses.
However, since there are 6 pieces in the set, you can slot 3 into one power, and 3 into another power to get the bonus for slotting 3 of them twice. -
Quote:Yeah, I kinda got that impression too.The OP came off as saying "I like Martial Arts and everything else is worse. Why is that?"
The OP read very much to me as essentially saying "Why does everything suck but Martial Arts?"
Understandably, that is going to get people a little defensive of their favorite set, and more inclined to point out that MA isn't the end all-be all the OP is painting it as.
I don't have anything against Martial Arts, though I used to. I used to detest the fact that it was all kicks, and Martial Arts is much more than just a bunch of flashy kicks. Now that it has the option of some punching attacks it's a little better in my eyes, but it's still kinda meh to me.
My personal favorites are Claws and Broadsword, which both have their flaws. But I like them.
The OP would have gotten less friction if he had phrased his post more along the lines of "I really like Martial Arts, but I can't seem to get into the other sets. What am I missing?" -
Yeah, that kind threw me for a loop there. As much as you know about the game you should have known that, so you saying that was a little weird.
-
No, it doesn't.
You can't even slot it in Sprint.
It's because the devs don't want people getting absurd amounts of defense for only a few slots expended via having the veteran reward prestige sprints.
20 points of KB protection for zero slot expenditure would be a little broken too. "Yay, my controller has more KB protection than a tank!" -
-
So, if Defenders get a Cold APP.....what do the other 11 ATs get to make it fair?
You can't have one AT getting more APPs than any other AT, there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth if Defenders have 5 pools to choose from and everyone else gets just 4. This was finally balanced when scrappers got a 4th pool to even them out with everyone else, and I don't think unbalancing it again in Defenders' favor would go over very well. -
One major problem with the whole "Just fix all the bugs" suggestions:
A lot of times, when a bug gets fixed, it inadvertantly creates a NEW bug.
So you'd spend time fixing the current bugs, then you'd have to fix the bugs those fixes created, then the bugs THOSE fixes created, and so on and so forth.
The most annoying part of that is, when you find a bug, the cause of it is usually something that is apparently completely unrelated to the effect. So you'd spend the better part of a month just FINDING the bug so you can fix it.
"Just fix all the bugs" is a good thought in theory, but it will probably end up being a much bigger proposal than anyone thinks it is.
